CLOSED ♪ I just wanna dive in the water with you
Who: Mephisto Pheles (
meinwaifu) & Mipha (
fisherwife)
What: The love confession no one asked for but you're all getting it anyway.
When: Early May
Where: Mipha's home, Olympia
Warning(s): Demon-induced secret telling??
[It's strange how easy it is to fall into a routine without even realizing it. Ever since that rather unfortunate run-in with Percy, Mephisto's taken care to only show up when he's sure the young man in question isn't around. But that means missing Mipha as well, more often than not. And as busy as his own job keeps him, he often finds himself with far more free-time than he knows what to do with.]
[Which is obviously the only reason he's gotten into the habit of doing all the little chores that needed to be done in her home. That way, he can spend as much time with her as possible when she's actually home! It's totally selfish, and has absolutely nothing to do with wanting to be nice or helpful!!]
[But what he doesn't know is that today, he's going to be caught in the act of actually cleaning. And like something out of a bizarre Snow White parody, he has his familiars helping out, while his powers do the rest. Three little monkeys hop and float around as one washes, one dries, and another puts dishes away; and a little pink bat flutters around the room with a feather duster in its mouth, dusting shelves and only occasionally knocking things down -- which Mephisto is always quick to catch with a snap of his fingers. He's completely in-tune with everything going on, standing in the center of the room with his hands up like a conductor, while behind him a broom sweeps the floor unassisted with a mop following not too far behind.]
[Really, the only thing that isn't in tune... is his singing. Which is horrible, but-- he's singing. And he's not singing just anything, oh no. He's singing in Japanese, using a silly voice, and seemingly serenading Mipha's little penguin friend with a love song about penguins. For his part, Medoh appears delighted, waving his little fins and waddling in place, his little feet clapping on the ground to the beat of the song.]
[He'll have his back turned when Mipha comes in -- the question is, how long will she watch this cute scene before interrupting?]

I'm so glad they've returned to you. [She laughs a little, shaking her head] I take it their talent doesn't lie just in cleaning homes?
no subject
Oh, not at all! They're-- [Oh. He makes a face now, bringing a hand to his chin.] ...actually, I wonder if it wouldn't be better to dismiss them for now. They can be rather dangerous-- in a manner of speaking.
[Dangerous, he says, as one of them scurries up his side to settle in his arms with a happy cooing sound. But his expression is slowly turning into a grin, recalling what happened the last time he summoned them.]
They feed on truth and feelings of bold honesty-- which is a rather obscure way of saying they have a tendency to draw out the secrets that others keep locked away in their hearts. It's a bit like a truth serum, though they have little control over what truth they draw out. Those affected by them often aren't even aware of it.
[Okay, he's almost laughing by now, throwing in a playful wink.] And my, I'd certainly hate to be the one responsible if you start blurting out whatever embarrassing secrets you might be keeping from me!
no subject
[She's quiet for a long moment, the jovial expression changing to something quieter and more thoughtful.] Although, I suppose, there is one thing... I've been meaning to tell you it anyhow, but the timing never quite seemed right...
[That's
ominous??]
no subject
[But ultimately, he's a demon too. And his own curiosity is likely going to win this battle. If it's something she was meaning to tell him eventually, then surely it can't be too bad, right?]
Well, I certainly can't stop you from telling me anyway. But you know you're welcome to have your own secrets. I keep plenty of my own, after all -- and for the record, their abilities can't work on me.
no subject
It's not something I particularly want to keep secret anymore, I suppose. It's simply...difficult to find the right words. Or rather, I have the words, but it's difficult to figure out how to say them...
[She's quiet for a long moment, bringing a hand up to her mouth in thought. At length she looks up at him, expression sincere and expectant] Mephisto, if I may ask first-- Do I make you happy?
no subject
[But he can't be sure. And even if he were sure-- no. There's no reason to think about it unless it's true. But it does cause his expression to soften, looking at her a bit curiously.]
[And perhaps picking up on their master's curiosity, the little monkeys begin allowing their influence to affect her. She's already gearing up to tell him anyway -- but if she's struggling to find the words, this might just help her in throwing them out there without thinking about them too much.]
[Or she'll confess something entirely unrelated -- their powers were delightfully random at times, after all.]
But of course. Do you think I would be spending so much time by your side if I didn't greatly enjoy being there?
no subject
You make me very happy, Mephisto. You always know how to make me laugh, and I feel safe and comfortable with you... I don't want to lose this--you, or how you make me feel... And I'm afraid if what I say isn't.. accepted, than it will ruin all of that...
[She trails off and shakes her head, smiling sadly.] But I've let my indecisiveness and thoughts of 'there ill be another time for this' get in the way of my happiness before, and I told myself I wouldn't let it happen again.
[Mipah takes a breath and glanes shyly up at him, her smile turning sheepish now] I practiced this a million times in my head, but I still don't feel prepared.
But-- Mephisto, I... I'm quite sure I've... fallen in love with you. Quite a bit, in fact. It's alright if you don't feel the same exactly or anything. As long as you can be happy, and so long as I can remain by your side... That's enough for me.

[His expression is unchanging even as he slowly raises up his hand and snaps his fingers, his familiars each disappearing in a little poof of smoke -- and with them, any influence they might have been having on her. Maybe it didn't matter if they were here or not anyway, but he still had to be sure.]
[There's a brief moment where he searches her expression, looking for a trace of the spell wearing off, some embarrassment over saying something she didn't honestly mean to... but when he doesn't see anything of the sort, he shuts his eyes and crosses his arms with a sigh, hanging his head to the side.]
[But as soon as he does, his expression softens into a smile.]
I'd say you're more prepared than you should have been. After saying all of that, just how am I supposed to convince you of what a terrible decision you've made?
no subject
I feel as though you've stolen the words right out of my mouth... but a demon like myself doesn't deserve to be the target of a love so selfless. You should desire more-- and if I could give you more, it would surely make me the happiest person in all of Nysa.
[His smile doesn't wane, but there's something akin to sadness in his voice as he continues.]
But... I cannot. I can neither grow old with you, nor give you a family. Nor can I promise you fidelity, seeing as I would never make a promise I know I could never keep. And for all that you know plenty about the sort of person that I am by now-- there's still so much about me you don't know.
But even knowing-- even knowing all of that, I...
[He's not actually trying to convince her of anything. Perhaps the one he's really trying to convince is himself.]

She's been holding her breath a little throughout it and it all comes out on a rush of a sigh as he finishes.] Oh. [This was one of those 'hope for the best but prepare for the worst' situations, and she hadn't quite expected it to get this far... So she had nothing planned on how to respond to actual acceptance and reciprocating feelings.]
I won't force you to change for me, Mephisto. I won't ask for that. But, I... [Mipha laughs a little and looks embarrassed] I'm really happy, but I don't know what to say. [So she reaches for him instead, just wanting to be closer for now] I want... you. Just you. Flaws and all.
no subject
[But it's not such a bad thing, he thinks.]
[As she reaches for him, he opens his arms to her, sweeping one arm around her shoulders and resting his other hand atop her head.]
You've already changed me a great deal, you know. It's impressive, really -- demons can go thousands of years without changing at all, and yet you've manage to open my heart in a span of time that feels like the blink of an eye for me.
[And his smile spreads out into a grin, as he playfully adds with a laugh--] Honestly, it's a good thing you and I come from different worlds. You'd make quite the formidable exorcist-- taming a Demon King, of all things.
no subject
I often find myself wondering just how this all came to be. It's quite the unlikely pair, the two of us, but I... I find myself without clear reason. There's no specific things for me to pinpoint and use. You make me laugh, and help me relax, and...
[She trails off a moment, just looking at him, before continuing softly:] You make me happy, Mephisto.

[That look on her face is making his heart flutter in his chest, gosh. He honestly never thought he'd hear someone say something like this to him before. And while it's never been something he's particularly longed for, to hear it now makes him so happy, he's almost not sure what to say.]
You make me happy as well. But it's more than that...
[Is she ready for some sappiness, because that's what's happening.]
When I'm with you... I find that I no longer worry about a future I can no longer predict. Whether I can still be considered the King of Time or not doesn't matter. There's no need to hide anything from you... I can simply be me, without the need to filter my true self.
no subject
[He's no saint okay. But that's also kind of the point.]
no subject
Mephisto. [But she laughs and tugs at him, standing on tiptoe to meet him for a quick kiss.]
I'll try not to ruin your reputation too much. [There's a shake of her head, and she looks a bit thoughtful.] I suppose I'll have to tell Urbosa and Sidon about this sometime soon as well...
no subject
[Ah. And speaking of demons--]
Oh, I don't know if that'll be necessary. It seems they both already came to some conclusion that there was something between us when we first met.
Honestly, I'm surprised that misunderstanding hasn't come up yet.
[Why is he like this]
no subject
She blushes anyhow; while she's aware that they must have had some idea of the nature of her and Mephisto's relationship, he doesn't have to bring it up like that!!]
Why do I have the feeling you have something to do with them assuming so much...
[It's half accusing, half playful.] Have you been talking about me behind my back?
no subject
[..."very" close. With a grin and a leer that honestly had far more dirty connotations than anything as pure as love existing between them.]
But I suppose I've mentioned you to a few of my acquaintances now and then... ah, and to my brother, of course! Though I can't say it'll be nearly as easy to explain this all to him.
[Maybe he can just... not bother...]
no subject
It makes her pause, head titling with a quiet expression of concern] Do you think he'll disapprove?
no subject
He's much smarter than he looks, but he is a demon. And unlike myself, who has spent centuries observing and living among humans, he's not quite as... socially adjusted.
[This is a very nice way of saying he's intelligent, but also stupid.]
Ah, in any case, he listens to me. I've already told him to treat you kindly -- that alone is enough to at least imply that I care for you far more than anyone else I've met here.
[Especially since there are Consequences™ for disobeying Mephisto. They have such a beautiful, brotherly relationship, really.]
no subject
And you're sure he'll listen to you? [But as soon as she asks she realizes it's a bit of a silly question and her expression softens into a smile.]
Well, perhaps not everyone is as good at disobeying you as I am.
[Flirting what flirting, there's nothing to see here.]
no subject
Well, I am his older brother. [There, that sounds safe.]
[But her little flirting just makes him laugh.]
Fufu, is that so? Personally, I'd say it's less a matter of disobeying me and more a matter of making me the one to obey you.
[He did say she practically tamed him, after all.]
