[ FINISHED/CLOSED ]
Who: John Sheppard & Ianto Jones
What: I Held My Tongue For Like 30 Minutes What More Do You Want?
When: Backdated to the, 24th/25th of May?
Where: Leaving main Wyver for Khalo
Warning(s): Weird Tension, fyrra use
John's best lead for the whole thing is going to be Khalo, but they can at least meander through the main hub first so Ianto can get a drink before he collapses on the floor. He can explain it once Ianto is a little more alert. John is benevolent enough to suggest this without letting on it's mostly for Ianto's sake, even though they both know it is. It's fine, though, he knows the theoretical timeline they're working on -- and since the the whole altar thing was a bust (probably he should mention that, too) this is more firefighting than anything.
He waves off another kid trying to get suspiciously close to him and his bag, mouths scram as he waits for Ianto to get his drink (which, no doubt, he won't enjoy as much as his own fancy coffee) and skims his phone again. It's heating up enough that his jacket is stowed in his bag, and he eyes Ianto idly wondering if he's put on any sunblock. His own arms are getting browner every minute, and he probably has tan lines.
"So," he says, stowing his phone and squinting up at the sky thoughtfully. Clear so far, it's only going to get hotter then. "Your boyfriend seemed in a good mood."
Ultra smooth. Nailed it.

He throws the other man a look at the fainting comment, which he hopes hides some of the color that has managed to sneak its way onto his face. "If that's a comment about your delicate sensibilities..." he mutters, as he pulls the fabric up and over his head. Grateful to have it back to hide behind. Wishing it weren't so hot in this bloody city so that he could put his full suit on and hide behind that as well.
He takes his over-shirt back from John as well, shrugging it on and doing up some of the buttons so that it's not just hanging off of him, fussing with his clothes before he turns back to the other man at last. "Have I ever had a sunburn before," he repeats. "Is that a trick question. Any part of me that's seen the sun for more than fifteen minutes unguarded has had a sunburn before."

He hooks his bag up onto his shoulders and smooths out his t-shirt, pulling down his sunglasses and squinting around at the area.
"And I'm very sensitive, thank you."
Halfway true, though he definitely hides it better than Ianto. John has a whole lot of muddled emotions, they're just securely forced into a high pressure container and locked away.
"Come on, let's find you a hat and get moving. I can tell you all about the fun we're going to have on the way."
The 'fun', it turns out, is the way you get to Khalo. There's some weird local magic, John explains conversationally, which it seems can only be overcome by smoking something called fyrra. Fyrra sounds suspiciously like a familiar earth-based herb to John, but he doesn't seem overall too worried about it. He's got some food and water packed, all non-perishable stuff and water from sealed containers in case the local stuff isn't clean. It'll likely take longer than a day to get there but he has some camping stuff they can use, not quite as fancy as the carriage but enough to keep them clean and dry.

He turns to throw a sideways glance at the other man at the explanation of the fyrra. If Jim had known about that part, he'd certainly left it out. Not that Ianto has any particular issues with drug use, but it certainly has him raising an eyebrow.
"You're saying that the only way in is to expose ourselves to potentially mind-altering substances,” he repeats, making certain that he understands this right.

John is, on the surface at least, pretty relaxed about it. He is, however, aware that Ianto may well not be. Not only because there's a chance he's either never gotten high before or had a bad reaction, but also because he may just be generally uneasy about being high around him.
"If you want to back out," he adds, "I'm fine going in alone and reporting back."
No judgement. John gets it, not everyone enjoys the weird out of control feeling. If Ianto is just going to feel weird then it's not a good time for anyone.

"I'll manage," he reassures instead, turning back to glance at the path in front of them as they walk together, hooking his fingers in the straps of his bag as he does. "I did go to university, you know. It's hardly my first foray." Perhaps not with fyrra itself, but. He's pretty sure that John gets the picture.
