June Open Post for Renly Baratheon
Who: Renly Baratheon (
antleredcrown) & anyone
What: June Open Post
When: June
Where: Wyver
Warning(s): None?
i. The Dragon Sanctuary: The timing is odd, certainly. The fact that he's been working here for only a few weeks and now there are talks of an undead dragon. At least these are smallish, and have behaved well enough for him so far. Perhaps there's more Targaryan blood in him than he thought, ha.
At least he hasn't been eaten yet, and he's providing for Loras. That's all he really cares about.
ii. The Wyver Library: John Shepard's questions had intrigued him, and now that there is much more talk about dragons going around, Renly would like to learn more about the dragons of Wyver, specifically. Oh there have been tales of dragons in Westeros, but this is a new place, presumably with new dragons. So he sits amongst a stack of books of the history of dragons in Wyver, trying to find out what he can.

I. it's me again!!!!
Truth be told, he isn’t working much at all when he crosses paths with Renly. He’s crouched down beside a small dragon, trying to coax it into looking at him so he can sketch a portrait. He’s having no luck. ]
I would have little reason to look at me either. I don’t believe I even looked in the mirror this morning.
[ Looking put out, he sits back on his heels and glances back at Renly. ]
Hello, monsieur. If a king requires employment, would this be his first choice, or was it simply the only position available?
no subject
So he suggested I might try my hand at dragon taming. So here we are.
If you don't mind my asking -- what is it you're trying to do?
no subject
Giving up, it would seem.
[ He gives a wry smile, because what else is new? ]
A dear friend of mine would greatly appreciate sketches of these creatures, but they’re not fond of the attention. This one isn’t, at least. Might be she finds me ugly. I don’t find her particularly beautiful either.
And how many dragons have you tamed thus far, monsieur?
no subject
[He crouches and tries to coax Grantaire's would be muse over to him, only to be met with a hiss and an annoyed swish of a tail before she goes off to play elsewhere.]
You see? My servants, all.
no subject
Thousands, but not this one. Or perhaps she merely shows her loyalty differently than the others. Either way, it seems your would-be servant has cruelly abandoned us.
no subject
Is this the same friend who argues with me whenever he gets the chance to?
no subject
It’s disgusting, really.]Enjolras? He’s built himself stacks of books so high, I can hardly find him. Even if I could, he would have no interest. These are for another friend who has joined us from home.
[ He wouldn’t dare to waste Enjolras’ time with sketches—a skill he’s certain he’s Enjolras isn’t even aware of, even if Grantaire did consider himself to be skilled at all. He only wastes Jehan’s time because Jehan asks it of him. ]
If he's arguing, it does mean he's listening to you.
[ Things Grantaire knows very well. ]
no subject
He'll consult Loras about it.]
Ah, Enjolras shares my hobbies, at least. You should tell him that, see how he reacts. I was a master of laws before I was a king.
But I am glad you are joined by another friend. One who appreciates the arts. [There's a wyvern curling itself around his leg, much to his amusement] Perhaps if I stay very still, you could find your muse in this little one?
no subject
He has strong opinions on kings. What you were before isn’t likely to make you look any better in his eyes, but you have my condolences. May of my friends were students of law, and Enjolras one of them. I find it dull and confusing. I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone.
[ He smiles his halfway sardonic smile before turning his gaze toward the little wyvern. ]
It would appear you have tamed a loyal subject after all. I should have never doubted you, but it is what I’m best at. Would you please? I'm afraid my skills are lacking as it is. I won't take longer than a moment.

He didn't expect to see Loras' Lord. He approves of course. He's glad for his friend, that he has such a good man. His closeness with Loras makes him feel a bit more bold about approaching Renly. The huge man treads carefully around the little dragons to give a rather impressive bow. "Lord Renly." With his bow, it puts him low enough that he can scoop one of the little dragons up to hold like a kitten.
no subject
"And a good day to you as well, Ser Reinhardt. I see you have a friend there."
no subject
Reinhardt beams at the man. "I do. This one likes me very much. Or he likes the fact that I sneak him rabbit when it's not his proper mealtime." Right on cue, there's some dried meat coming out of a pocket and he's indeed feeding the little lizard. "I've found if I stand still enough, I'll get quite a few of them crawling on me." He's a furnace after all.
"I didn't know you worked here though." Sadly, he hasn't been back here in some time. He's been busy. "Are you as fond of these little ones as I?"
II. hope this is okay!!
He's just about settled down with his latest stack of books at the next table over from the other man, who seems to be set on researching some topic or another about as intently as Ianto himself, when his mobile starts to sound off message alerts. In rapid succession. And as luck would wont to have it, he has not silenced the damned thing. Swearing softly under his breath he digs his phone out of his pocket and fumbling with it to put it on silent.
Glancing up at the other man he chews on his lip before offering, "Sorry, I. Didn't mean to interrupt your work. My roommate..." He winces slightly as he trails off.
no subject
That is until someone's phone goes off. He jumps a little at the alert, skidding his pen across the page in a smear of surprised ink.
"No -- no, it's quite all right." Though a quick glance over at the other man's books causes him to raise an eyebrow. "It seems we're of a similar mind."
no subject
"Ah, yes, well. This library has quite the amount of resources, and it seems we could all use some answers these days," Ianto says, tactfully. He doesn't ask straight out what it is that the other man is researching -- he doesn't know whether that's rude or not -- but he's fairly certain given the timing he may have a hunch, after all.
no subject
"Renly Baratheon. Always glad to meet a fellow scholar, even in these odd times. I always feel a bit out of sorts in situations like this. I am no soldier, so I do this, instead. Try to help from a logical standpoint."
no subject
"Ianto Jones," he replies, giving Renly's hand a firm shake. "Odd times is certainly one way of putting it, yes." Ianto might go so far as to use the word 'dire', but that is neither here nor there. "We're of a similar mind, you and I. I'm just trying to see what I can find that might help in any way possible. I'm a good shot, but I know myself and I know I'll be no good on the ground in a situation like this. If there's an answer I could find in one of these books that might help, though. I figure it's the least I could do in return."
no subject
no subject
"I do my best," he replies, with a small smile. He gestures to the books on the table in front of the other man. "May I ask what your're researching specifically? Maybe our topics have crossed paths."
II
He speaks quietly. ] Have people seen dragons here...?
[ That wouldn't be good at all. Back at home, dragons were an ill omen. ]
no subject
Are you new to this place, that you haven't encountered them just yet?
no subject
no subject
Here they're quite small. The size of a large housecat.
no subject
... Still, is it really possible for something that's extinct to return?
no subject
The ones here are called wyverns. As to your second question, that is exactly that I'm attempting to discover in all these books.
no subject
no subject
I will take that under advisement, thank you.
no subject
no subject
I'm hoping to find some sort of solution, before the problem becomes a problem.

He wanders through until he spots that familiar face. It's hard not to smile, a little look that turns up the corners of Loras' mouth, as he sits beside Renly.
"It's getting late, you know."
no subject
He has, he supposes, rather taken to this new task. He enjoys his work with the smaller dragons, but the thought of a giant undead dragon is rather terrifying. And although he's certainly not met everyone in Wyver, nor is he there king, that instinct remains.
To protect, as he'd failed to do before.
"I think I could be convinced to pack up my things for the night."
no subject
"I'm happy to see you like this, you know. I'd been worried when you woke up that it would take ... Well. You've found your place here sooner than I'd thought. Forigve me." He ducks his head to laugh for a moment. "I'm glad."
no subject
You were absolutely right. Finding myself work has helped immensely."
no subject
Loras stands, pulling Renly to stand with him. He carefully marks the pages that Renly was on before closing the book, and he's sure that no one else will be around to poke through it's dusty pages until Renly can return to it.
"Let's go home, then."
no subject
no subject
He nudges his nose against Renly's ear, smiling all the while.
"Unless I bore you now." He's teasing.
no subject
"You are much more interesting than books."
no subject
Loras takes the opportunity to catch a quick kiss, not lingering in case someone should happen by. He tugs at Renly's hand to start towards the door of the library.
"How was your research?"
no subject
no subject
"When was the last time you held a sword for more than show? At least let me try and teach you something before you resign yourself to fighting."
no subject
