June Open Post for Renly Baratheon

Who: Renly Baratheon ([personal profile] antleredcrown) & anyone
What: June Open Post
When: June
Where: Wyver
Warning(s): None?

i. The Dragon Sanctuary: The timing is odd, certainly. The fact that he's been working here for only a few weeks and now there are talks of an undead dragon. At least these are smallish, and have behaved well enough for him so far. Perhaps there's more Targaryan blood in him than he thought, ha.

At least he hasn't been eaten yet, and he's providing for Loras. That's all he really cares about.

ii. The Wyver Library: John Shepard's questions had intrigued him, and now that there is much more talk about dragons going around, Renly would like to learn more about the dragons of Wyver, specifically. Oh there have been tales of dragons in Westeros, but this is a new place, presumably with new dragons. So he sits amongst a stack of books of the history of dragons in Wyver, trying to find out what he can.

[ Grantaire keeps the thought of the looming dragon threat in the back of his mind as he goes about his daily duties in the Sanctuary. For the time being, he isn’t particularly concerned. The radicals don’t seem to be able to keep their views straight, and Grantaire isn’t certain he believes in this undead dragon to begin with.

Truth be told, he isn’t working much at all when he crosses paths with Renly. He’s crouched down beside a small dragon, trying to coax it into looking at him so he can sketch a portrait. He’s having no luck.
]

I would have little reason to look at me either. I don’t believe I even looked in the mirror this morning.

[ Looking put out, he sits back on his heels and glances back at Renly. ]

Hello, monsieur. If a king requires employment, would this be his first choice, or was it simply the only position available?

[ It almost sounds familiar, but Grantaire is not a king and he would not dare to call Enjolras an advisor. If anything, it should be the opposite. This, however, is simply Grantaire doing his best. Some time ago, Enjolras requested that he find a job, so he has. Months later. ]

Giving up, it would seem.

[ He gives a wry smile, because what else is new? ]

A dear friend of mine would greatly appreciate sketches of these creatures, but they’re not fond of the attention. This one isn’t, at least. Might be she finds me ugly. I don’t find her particularly beautiful either.

And how many dragons have you tamed thus far, monsieur?

[ He laughs as the creature takes off, leaving them both dragonless. It seems neither one of them is particularly good at this. ]

Thousands, but not this one. Or perhaps she merely shows her loyalty differently than the others. Either way, it seems your would-be servant has cruelly abandoned us.

[ Grantaire hasn’t bothered to hide just how much he reveres Enjolras. Even if he tried, it would still be blatantly obvious. His expression seems to soften at the very subject of the revolutionary leader. It’s disgusting, really. ]

Enjolras? He’s built himself stacks of books so high, I can hardly find him. Even if I could, he would have no interest. These are for another friend who has joined us from home.

[ He wouldn’t dare to waste Enjolras’ time with sketches—a skill he’s certain he’s Enjolras isn’t even aware of, even if Grantaire did consider himself to be skilled at all. He only wastes Jehan’s time because Jehan asks it of him. ]

If he's arguing, it does mean he's listening to you.

[ Things Grantaire knows very well. ]

[personal profile] winecasks 2018-06-25 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
[ If Grantaire were fully aware of just what his own feelings are exactly, he might do a better job of trying to hide them. Or maybe not. After all, he doesn’t want to change who Enjolras is. He doesn’t mind, so long as he gets the honor of basking in his light. ]

He has strong opinions on kings. What you were before isn’t likely to make you look any better in his eyes, but you have my condolences. May of my friends were students of law, and Enjolras one of them. I find it dull and confusing. I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone.

[ He smiles his halfway sardonic smile before turning his gaze toward the little wyvern. ]

It would appear you have tamed a loyal subject after all. I should have never doubted you, but it is what I’m best at. Would you please? I'm afraid my skills are lacking as it is. I won't take longer than a moment.

Reinhardt adores the dragon sancturary. There's a little one there that he's taken a great shine too. He's not had much time to visit, what with worry of the dragon and getting prepared for if he has to be a shield for those evacuating. But today, he just wants a break from it all to be surrounded by the little ones.

He didn't expect to see Loras' Lord. He approves of course. He's glad for his friend, that he has such a good man. His closeness with Loras makes him feel a bit more bold about approaching Renly. The huge man treads carefully around the little dragons to give a rather impressive bow. "Lord Renly." With his bow, it puts him low enough that he can scoop one of the little dragons up to hold like a kitten.

To him, the small creature is really like that of a smallish dog. A very scaly, dangerous dog. The little thing flutters it's wings, getting comfortable while it nuzzles at the man's chest, demanding the treats it knows he brought.

Reinhardt beams at the man. "I do. This one likes me very much. Or he likes the fact that I sneak him rabbit when it's not his proper mealtime." Right on cue, there's some dried meat coming out of a pocket and he's indeed feeding the little lizard. "I've found if I stand still enough, I'll get quite a few of them crawling on me." He's a furnace after all.

"I didn't know you worked here though." Sadly, he hasn't been back here in some time. He's been busy. "Are you as fond of these little ones as I?"

Ianto's been doing a lot of research lately. A lot of research. And what he found in the Khalo libraries mentioned precious little as far as this ritual is concerned. What small note he'd found of it recalled an instance in Wyver. Which is why Ianto Jones finds himself here amongst the stacks of the Wyver Library, weeding through stacks of books on topics that he honestly can hardly make sense of. He's determined to sniff this out though, and do so properly. Just because he doesn't have a computer to run it through a search engine doesn't mean he's entirely useless. And while he can't really hold himself in a fight or -- apparently -- protect priceless artifacts from being stolen by sociopathic madmen bent on total war. At least he can crack a book open and solve a puzzle.

He's just about settled down with his latest stack of books at the next table over from the other man, who seems to be set on researching some topic or another about as intently as Ianto himself, when his mobile starts to sound off message alerts. In rapid succession. And as luck would wont to have it, he has not silenced the damned thing. Swearing softly under his breath he digs his phone out of his pocket and fumbling with it to put it on silent.

Glancing up at the other man he chews on his lip before offering, "Sorry, I. Didn't mean to interrupt your work. My roommate..." He winces slightly as he trails off.

Ianto triple-checks that his phone is on silent (while also glancing to be certain that the messages are nothing urgent -- which they aren't) before slipping his phone into his pocket and glancing down sheepishly at the books he's amassed around him.

"Ah, yes, well. This library has quite the amount of resources, and it seems we could all use some answers these days," Ianto says, tactfully. He doesn't ask straight out what it is that the other man is researching -- he doesn't know whether that's rude or not -- but he's fairly certain given the timing he may have a hunch, after all.

Ianto offers the other man a polite smile, taking his hand and shaking it in turn. He understands where he's coming from -- he's no soldier, no survivalist. But he can at least offer his skills in research.

"Ianto Jones," he replies, giving Renly's hand a firm shake. "Odd times is certainly one way of putting it, yes." Ianto might go so far as to use the word 'dire', but that is neither here nor there. "We're of a similar mind, you and I. I'm just trying to see what I can find that might help in any way possible. I'm a good shot, but I know myself and I know I'll be no good on the ground in a situation like this. If there's an answer I could find in one of these books that might help, though. I figure it's the least I could do in return."

Ianto isn't so sure he'd go so far as to say he'd be a detriment. He can fight, and he can wield a gun, but he doesn't have one here and he's not sure how well it would hold up against a dragon like this one anyway. Still, he nods in response to the other man's words, agreeing with most of the rest of his statement.

"I do my best," he replies, with a small smile. He gestures to the books on the table in front of the other man. "May I ask what your're researching specifically? Maybe our topics have crossed paths."

[ Mikleo is someone who visits the library quite frequently. He's gathering his own pile of books, but it's all centered around history and medicines. He glances at the pile of books that Renly seems to have gathered, looking mildly alarmed for a moment.

He speaks quietly. ]
Have people seen dragons here...?

[ That wouldn't be good at all. Back at home, dragons were an ill omen. ]

I haven't encountered them yet. [ He answered slowly. ] ... Though, if they're being taken care of, I take it that they're different here than they are in my own world. Back home, we see them as ill omens.

Dragons that small go by another name usually, don't they?

... Still, is it really possible for something that's extinct to return?

In that case, it may be better to look through the history regarding dragons here, too. .... People don't often realize it, but there's a lot of answers that can be found through the course of history.

Don't worry about it. [ A beat. ] ... Do you have someone to help you do research? Something like this is easier if it isn't done alone.

Loras can't recall the last time he was in a library. Likely it was some years ago, back in Storm's End, and it certainly wasn't to read. But Renly is more academically inclined, and he seems to have to taken on this new mystery with a gusto that Loras is, quite frankly, surprised and pleased by. Mostly, Loras is glad that Renly is starting to settle.

He wanders through until he spots that familiar face. It's hard not to smile, a little look that turns up the corners of Loras' mouth, as he sits beside Renly.

"It's getting late, you know."

[personal profile] triplerose 2018-06-27 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Loras leans over, pressing a light kiss to Renly's cheek.

"I'm happy to see you like this, you know. I'd been worried when you woke up that it would take ... Well. You've found your place here sooner than I'd thought. Forigve me." He ducks his head to laugh for a moment. "I'm glad."

"Good."

Loras stands, pulling Renly to stand with him. He carefully marks the pages that Renly was on before closing the book, and he's sure that no one else will be around to poke through it's dusty pages until Renly can return to it.

"Let's go home, then."

"I've not seen you all day. I absolutely won't have you continuing it at home."

He nudges his nose against Renly's ear, smiling all the while.

"Unless I bore you now." He's teasing.

"I would hope so."

Loras takes the opportunity to catch a quick kiss, not lingering in case someone should happen by. He tugs at Renly's hand to start towards the door of the library.

"How was your research?"

[personal profile] triplerose 2018-06-29 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
Loras feels bad, but he laughs.

"When was the last time you held a sword for more than show? At least let me try and teach you something before you resign yourself to fighting."
