01. TRAINING (closed to established cr)
[ bellus used to shake her head at dutch, complaining that she was always fighting dragons. dutch never thought that would become a literal thing, but this place has made that happen.
something else this place made happen? dutch finding a tiny baby dragon in the woods that followed her home. she has no idea how it got there or why she's keeping it or even what she's supposed to do with it. it (she) is roughly the size of a sheep, slender in build, with emerald green scales covering her entire body.
dutch decides to name her lucy. it doesn't mean anything.
in the first twenty four hours of lucy following dutch home, lucy tries to eat dorian the kinkajou three times, climbs onto a shelf, nests in alvis' old shirt that dutch still keeps in her apartment (which is a mess, thanks to ysverai and everything that happened in the undead dragon's wake) and almost sets a table on fire when she coughs.
so that's happening. ]
I'm going to train you. [ dutch tells lucy. step one: fill a spray bottle with water and spray lucy whenever she does something she's not supposed to. step two: enlist the help of a friend. step three: ??? ]
I don't even know what I should teach her.
02. REBUILDING / A BONFIRE (ota)
[ dutch's apartment is a mess. it's still standing, but that's about the only thing that can be said for it. so she's cleaning it up to the best of her abilities while there's a kinkajou dancing around the place, climbing on anything and generally getting in the way, and a dragon is lazing, belly up, in the sun.
around sundown, dutch has set a bunch of stones from a crumbled wall in a circle near that crumbled wall and is building a fire in the stone circle. her oven's wrecked and the crumbled wall means good air circulation, so why not build a bonfire in the middle of her apartment? #justdutchthings
the trip into the woods that got her lucy the dragon also yielded an animal that she's prepped to roast over the fire. lucy's watching proceedings very carefully all of the sudden.
come help with the rebuilding efforts or join her for some meat? she's got alcohol aplenty, too, that she pilfered from a bar so damaged it can no longer serve as a bar. ]
03. WILDCARD
[ want dutch for any of the shenanigans from the mod log? lmk @abiosis and i'll write you a starter, or just slide into the comments with your own! ]

johnny wouldn't, and so the angel and the devil on her shoulders have a fight again, but that's nothing new.
ultimately, she decides that the shamans owe her for what they did to her. being called a hero for getting kidnapped was more a slap to the face than anything else, as though not being strong enough to escape her own abduction was an act of heroism instead of the opposite.
so she shrugs. ]
How are you at building walls?
no subject
... I've done it before. Not my forte or anything but even a two-year-old can understand how to stack bricks.
[And with that he walked over to the pile of rubble, looking over towards the giant gaping hole in the side of the apartment.]
Have you attempted to gather any supplies to get this wall back together yet?
no subject
[ she's been gathering wood. who needs bricks when you can just hammer wood into the parts of the wall that are still standing and close the hole that way?
yeah, she's probably going to move somewhere else at some point, but for now, that'll do. she's lived in worse. ]
no subject
[Were these planks of wood even sturdy enough to protect this home from a passing breeze? Well, whatever. He wasn't going to put more work into this than he had to.
Kneeling down he gathered a few planks before turning to look at Dutch with a fairly blank expression.]
Hammers and nails? Or is all you have a rock and metal shrapnel from the debris?
no subject
well, because there's still stuff here. stuff that belonged to people she cared about (cares about) that are in stasis. ]
There's a box of nails in the right cupboard. No hammer, but plenty of rocks.
no subject
[Sorry for the snark Dutch, it's just the way he is.
Walking over to what was a, surprisingly, still structurally sound cupboard, Sanzo rummaged around to pull out a small box of nails. Sighing as he did his best to find something to smash them with.
Reminder to self: Next time the city is almost destroyed, buy some tools to make the rebuilding process a little easier on himself.]
Guess I'll do my best, can't promise anything too fancy though. I will write up a notice to the Altar later to come and provide more supplies for your home. Maybe then we can get this place looking a little more stable.
[He paused as he lifted a rather rough looking fist-sized piece of brick. He couldn't help but wonder if using this to hammer would simply break the rock instead.]
How about in terms of other supplies? You doing all right on food, clothes, and blankets?
no subject
[ she'll stick around wyver, but this apartment? dutch figures she's outgrown it, now that she's got lucy in addition to dorian the kinkajou. that, and she's not overly attached to the place and it is pretty wrecked.
so she shrugs. ]
And I know how to hunt. [ in fact, that's what she's done earlier, so there'll be meat over a fire soon. ] But it's sweet of you to worry. [ her tone is too sweet in itself for that statement to be really sincere. ]
no subject
...... Suit yourself then.
[And with that he starts hammering to the best of his ability. Slamming the rock down onto the nail the board looosly into place.]
Nice dragon.
[That is your dragon right?]
no subject
She followed me home.
no subject
[Like cats. The person doesn't choose the dragon. The dragon chooses the person.]
How long has she been following you around for?
no subject
[ but that's what happened with lucy. ]
Since yesterday.
no subject
[Yeah. That's not your dragon. That's just a wild dragon who happens to like this shambled ruin of a house and tolerates your company.]
Is it trained? Or does it just, do its own thing?
no subject
[ sometimes. but dutch'll get there. ]
no subject
[Yep.
That's a wild dragon just chilling there.]
And the monkey. That yours too?
[Cause that one's running way more amok than even the dragon.]
no subject
[ technically, the kinkajou's name is dorian the second or dorian ii, because the actual dorian was arrogant enough to want to name her animal after himself and she was fond enough of him to let him.
but now he's gone, so there's no need for the "ii" anymore. ]
no subject
[pretty sure it wasn't in reference to a monkey though.]
Let me guess, he just started following you one day as well?
no subject
Showed up in a basket, actually. And then some arrogant sod named him after himself.
no subject
Probably belonged to the sod you knew or something.
[He paused, before stopping his work for a moment to turn and look towards her.]
Who the hell willingly names a monkey after them?
[Was he that self-depreciative?]
no subject
[ a beat. ]
Think it's because he thought I was fond of the thing.
[ which —she is. but she's not going to admit that. she was fond of dorian, too. ]
no subject
[Not that he was one to talk when it came to using small animals to as a means of remembering old acquaintances.]
Sounds like he must have had some sort of sentimentality for you.
[He paused, turning from his work to look at the kinkajou. One could almost think there was a sudden softening in his expression.]
... You should probably get it some sort of training. You keep letting it run around like that and there will never be a day where you won't find shit and mushed up food somewhere in your general vicinity.
[Spoken like the truest of gentlemen.]
no subject
(he'd been a friend. he's on a long list of people dutch has lost to stasis again after coming to care for them, at times against her better judgement. —caring makes her weak, that's what khlyen always said. it's not a lesson that really caught on.)
her lips press together for a moment, before they quirk into a smile. ]
Speaking from experience?
[ a beat. ] Right now, I'm more interested in training the dragon.
no subject
... Maybe. You be surprised how often that it's the tiny little beasts that cause more trouble than the big ones.
[Well, this hole is as good as covered as it's going to be. At least it will block off a bit of the breeze for the night. Wouldn't stop the temperature drop that she would feel due to that decimated wall though.]
I'm surprised you even came back to this place instead of just finding a new place right off the bat. Especially if you're not planning on fixing it. Needed to grab something sentimental or something?
no subject
[ he's reasonably well-trained and reasonably well-behaved, is what she's saying.
and he's right —she did come back to grab something sentimental, but like hells is she going to admit to that. for a moment, her lips press together. ]
Or something. [ a beat. ] Wanted to see how much of my stash is in one piece still. [ she means her alcohol stash. ]
no subject
[Well, whatever that stash was it must have been something good. He wasn't going to pry more than he needed to though. Her stuff was her own after all.]
Well, hope you managed to get a hold of it. Doesn't look like too much survived all of this.
[Anyway, his work was done, he's just going to pull out a pack of cigarettes to celebrate.]
no subject
Some of it did.
