What: The Aqours Spooky Get Yohane Magical Powers Halloween Extravaganza...which is a super extra way of saying a Halloween party. It's a Halloween party, y'all.
When: early October
Where: a local restaurant in Olympia
Warning(s): none!

The Halloween party is in the back room of a local, family style restaurant. What used to be a banquet hall is decorated with fake cobwebs, crepe paper, and garlands of pumpkins, ghosts, and cats. A lot of the decorations are hand-made, courtesy of Yoshiko and You. There's an open space in the middle for dancing and mingling, some food tables along one side of the room, and some games and entertainment on the other side. There's a table with various hats, animal ears, and crowns for people who didn't bring a costume. Most of them are made out of cardboard. There's a very beat-up boombox in the corner, obviously borrowed from somebody, playing the El Nysa version of hokey Halloween songs like "The Monster Mash" and "Flying Purple People Eater."

The food is fairly standard Halloween fair. There's a large bowl full of candy, as well as some pumpkin flavored breads and muffins. There's a large punch bowl of something that's green, but is really your bog-standard lime sherbet/lemon-lime soda combination. The oddest thing on the table is some jet black takoyaki, labeled "Tears of a Fallen Angel." The label does not tell you that these things are spicy as hell and flavored solely with Tabasco. There's enough space on the table to fit more food, should your character decide to contribute something that isn't 'way too much sugar' or 'something that will melt your tongue off.'

The Halloween games are simple enough. There's a 'pin the tail on the donkey' though you're pinning a broomstick to a witch. There's a large tub for bobbing for apples. There's also a table dedicated to touch and feel mystery boxes: you reach in blindly to touch what's inside. The labels say things like 'eyeballs' (they're really peeled grapes), 'worms' (they're really cold, cooked spaghetti), and 'hearts' (it's a peeled tomato). The party's going past the closing time of the restaurant, so enjoy some slightly spooky nonsense!

( ooc: feel free to make a starter and tag around! Even if your character didn't reply to Yoshiko's post, it's possible that they heard about the party from somewhere else or just came in from the street: Yoshiko isn't turning away anybody. )

[It takes him a moment as he leans in, himself to hear her whisper better, to realize that those two things don't correlate... Or at least he doesn't think they do. To be fair, he does have no idea how all this works.]

Is that a thing that can happen at these parties?

[ And Yoshiko nods! ]

That's how You-chan got her magical singing powers. She hosted a summer party, she got those powers soon after. I figured why not give it a try? [ Apparently, Yoshiko has forgotten that correlation does not equal causation. ]

I'll go to bard school in the end, but wouldn't it be better if I had a leg up before even enrolling?

[There's something about the correlation between those two things that doesn't add up, but, at the same time... Molly has no fucking idea how magic works, beyond there being school involved. He and Fjord have magic they don't even understand or know where it came from. If he didn't already know that something probably followed Fjord after the shipwreck that gave him those abilities maybe he'd fully believe that there was some drunken ship party and the gods were so pleased they gave him magic.

And, quite frankly, if the way his blood works came from some raucous party somewhere in that past he doesn't care to think about, it would be the one thing he'd accept. But... that sounds way too pleasant. Still, he can't argue with Yoshiko's logic.]

I mean, it can't hurt. And even if it doesn't happen, you still had a successful party. It's a good way of looking at it. And I bet Diva will be impressed. She seems the type to be into this.

[He gives her a wink. He's not romantic in the least, but Diva and Yoshiko are both adorable individually and both girls could probably use some joy in their lives.]

[ As soon as Molly mentions Diva, Yoshiko downright BLUSHES. It's very obvious from the way she's acting that Yoshiko's a nervous baby gay and Diva is probably the first person she's actually had a serious crush on. ]

I-I hope so! She seemed like she was really interested in this sort of stuff...plus, it'd be really nice to see what she dressed up as.

[Man he should have conspired with Diva to make poor Yoshiko's gay heart explode. He's a nice person...]

That's still the part that baffles me. [He pulls up a chair and sits down, crossing his lanky legs. He still has So Much to learn about this bizarre spooky harvest custom and he's enraptured.] People dress up as things that they're not, preferably something scary. I don't know that I can get worse than this. [He gestures to his face.] Maybe less fabulous, but, for the most part, I look like something that may or may not eat souls, if you go by some of the things I've heard about tieflings.

[There's some really racist people in Wildemount.]

[ In between Nott's "all goblins are evil" explanation and Molly's "people think I eat souls" talk, Yoshiko's also starting to get the impression that there's a lot of racist people in Wildemount. ]

You can dress up as something fun as well. You-chan's dressed up as a cat: those aren't really scary. Most people just take the opportunity to be scary because it's the one time of the year when you can actually do something like that.

[Honestly, he's probably going to respectfully decline because he has a #brand, but he's still intrigued. Like many people, he's more interested in seeing what other people come up with than engaging himself. This sounds like his every day- just embracing what you want to be without fear of judgment, whether it's scary or... a cat.]

What're you dressing up as, again?

I'm a witch! [ Yoshiko proudly remarks. Although, considering that her witch costume is basically black dress + pointy hat, it's perfectly logical that someone from a world that doesn't have basicass witch iconography wouldn't know what she was. ]

That's a pretty basic spooky Halloween costume, but I figured why mess with the classics.

[YOU'RE THE MISTRESS OF THE GREY HUNT OF WHITESTONE??

Yeah, no. He had no fucking idea. Witches presumably just look like crones in Exandria.] I wouldn't have guessed that. Witches, uh... They typically look like normal people where I'm from.

[Normal crones. Or something.] Well, normal people with really fancy robes and... [And he gets an idea. This should be good.] You know what, I think we can make this better.

[hellzone]

[ Yoshiko's eyes light up with excitement. Fancy robes? Oh she really, really hopes that they're on the same wavelength. ]

Do you have any fancy robes I can wear?

[mollymocked]

As a matter of fact... [Molly has decided he lives at the Olympian equivalent of a thrift store and was actually there before he came here, which benefits Yoshiko, because it means his tacky and ostentatious taste is her gain.

He vanishes briefly to shift through his things, returning with something gauzy and dark green and holds it up. The green gives way to layers of dark purple fabric, making it look thicker and there are dozens upon dozens of gold embroidered sigils that might have been relevant to someone at some point, but have passed out of use. The sleeves are long and billowy and will most certainly stretch over Yoshiko's hands and the length of it is going to drag on the ground, but it's workable.] What d'you think? I think it suits you. It has a very... Mistress of Darkness vibe.

[Honestly, that is probably why he bought it. Maybe he wants a mistress of darkness vibe sometimes.]

[ When Molly returns with the dress, Yoshiko's eyes widen. It's really beautiful. The sigils, the billowy sleeves, that's the perfect sort of fallen angel dress. She looks at the dress, watching the green go to purple, eyeing the thing with a look of awe and a little bit of jealousy. ]

It's super pretty, [ she admits. ] You've got good taste in finding clothes, Little Demon Molly.

[mollymocked]

It's a gift. One of the many, many requirements of staying on with a circus is finding things that stand out for very little money. And I think- [He holds it up in front of her and it is... way too long for her] - I think we can make this work. I need about an hour and some pins, but then you'll look like you were born to do magic.

[hellzone]

[ It has not hit her until now that this is a gift. She blinks a little and looks up at Molly with a wide-eyed expression. Wait, this is for her? Something this pretty?

That's really sweet. It's not her birthday or anything like that, it's just Molly finding a dress, thinking that it would look good on her, and getting it. Yoshiko's utterly charmed by all of this ]

Thank you! [ And without even a pause, Yoshiko reaches over to pull Molly into a tight hug. ]

[He adjusts so the dress isn't crushed between them, and just laughs and hugs her back, giving her an affectionate pat on the head.] You're welcome, darling. I don't think you need anything to impress royalty, but at least you can look as magical on the outside as you do on the inside.

[ Molly is officially the best not-dad. This is hammy and sappy and she is eating it up with a spoon. ]

You never know, [ Yoshiko says, as she pulls away from Molly. ] All sorts of weird stuff happens in this place. Maybe I'll need that dress for a ball or something like that!

[mollymocked]

[He hands the dress over to her so he can clap his hands dramatically over his heart.] You'll look like a princess.

[God, there better be another proper ball in a place that isn't a cave. He's never been and he wants to. Gods, he wants to.

Spontaneous gift presented, he gives the pub a once-over and nods approvingly at the decorations.] So. Are you ready for what promises to be an interesting night?

[ As she takes the dress, Yoshiko drapes it over her arm. She's being super careful not to get the dress dirty or wrinkled...she'll probably have to set it down later.

But, at Molly's question, Yoshiko strikes a dramatic pose. ]

Of course I'm ready! It won't be a proper Halloween party unless it's super interesting!
