Take A Walk On The Wild Side (OTA)
Who: Phoenix Wright (
objectionattorney), John Sheppard (
impaved) & Anyone Else Who Is Interested In Dealing With These Rediculous Shenanigans
What: People Have Gone Missing In The Station! An Attorney And A Soldier Use Their Mutual Investigation Skills To Find The Source! Woof Bark Woof Bark
When: The Week Of 10/25
Where: The Rail Tunnels Close TO Nadril, Josa Forest, And Olympia
Warning(s): Nothing Besides Some Furry Larping
[Investigation Day 1: Nadril's Border: Closed To John Sheppard]
[It was freezing out. The slowly cooling air of the season not at all seeming to help Nadril's already snowy tundra. It was still quite early in the day and barely any of the locals were out as of yet. Made sense really, the sun only rose an hour or two ago. The only reason Phoenix himself was awake was that he had slept on the train ride over towards the city despite the rumor of the disappearances along the line.
In fact, that was exactly why he was here.
Decked head to toe in layers, with a large heavy coat and an over-sized snow cap over his trademark spiked hair, the ex-lawyer shifted about in attempts to keep himself warm. Occasionally blowing into his gloved hands in hopes that would aid in keeping him warm. It was times like these that he wished he actually knew how to use magic.
It was only after about fifteen minutes or so that Phoenix had to wait around though. As soon, an approaching figure caught his eye and his expression lit up. Reaching up and waving over to catch the other persons attention.]
Took you long enough! I was starting to get worried you wandered off and became one of the missing people we're supposed to be looking for!
[Investigation Day 1- Part 2: Josa Forest: OTA]
[Let it be known, it is never a wise decision to split up in the middle of the woods while investigating the disappearances of people in said woods.
But, it wasn't as if his splitting up was intentional or anything of the such. He and John had already set up a camp fairly close, and Pheonix knew exactly where he was in correlation to it. He just thought he had heard a noise was all, and he thought he'd just check a few yards around the vicinity of the camp to see if it was coming from any place close. Better safe than sorry after all... Right?
So he was in for quite a bit of a surprise when, upon his wandering about, he had caught sight of what appeared to be tracks.
Large tracks.
Large animalistic tracks.
Bipedal.
It left him still for a good long moment, the world so quiet around him that he almost could have sworn, in the distance, the faint sound of howling could be heard.
It had left him alert enough that when the sudden much louder sound of rustling leaves came up behind him he almost jumped into the air. If anything he most certainly yelped out a little.]
W-w-who's there!?!
[Please don't let it be whatever was making people disappear. Please don't let it be whatever was making people disappear.]
[Home Again Day 1: Olympia's Theater District: OTA]
[In the end, he and John had found nothing. And it just felt like yet another mission Phoenix had taken on only to fail miserably at. The entire thing had left him feeling restless and down. Enough so that simply sitting around with his own thoughts had been too much for him.
And so, that night, although it was late, although most places were starting to shut down for the night, Phoenix had found himself wandering. At first, he considered the red light district. But then he imagined Miles's stern and scolding expression upon figuring out the Phoenix had wandered off to such a place alone. So instead he ended up just across from it in the theater district.
Stopping just as he managed to find a small cheap theater that offered dinner and drinks that happened to be open late.]
Huh... This looks doable... Although, I really hope this isn't one of those places that invite you up on stage again. Ah! Hey! So sorry to bother you! Just, you wouldn't happen to have gone here before, have you? Just want to know what the show's like.
[And if the food was any good.]

Investigation Day 1
This seems like a bad idea, and John isn't really sure why he's allowing himself to be talked into it.
Well, actually he knows why. It's all the classics. He'll feel guilty if Phoenix dies running into danger on his own. People are missing and he feels uneasily responsible for making sure more don't get missing now he knows. These are all the kind of thought processes that cause someone to wind up dead.
John is bundled up in snow gear and sunglasses to reduce the glare off all the white, which goes a good way to hiding the slight wince in his expression as Phoenix frantically flags him down.
He closes the distance at a casual amble, glancing around idly to keep an eye on who's watching them. John is still decently paranoid about Magda and his followers, he's been burned too many times. ]
I was just asking around about our missing people, seems like there's somewhere between ten and fifteen of them -- a little fuzzy since I guess workers sometimes just take off anyway. Guess they don't get hazard pay.
no subject
[Such a shame really, as he had so much interest in what lead the orbiter refugees of years-past to wind up here. But this sort of atmosphere wasn't really for him. Also he hated how cold it was.
How was it that people could survive in snowy tundras like this willingly?]
At least that's still a fairly small number though. They seem to have their eye on it before it reached the point of a national emergency.
[Unlike Olympia and Wyver who didn't evacuate their citizens from a horrible situation until the absolute last minute.]
Anyway-!
[With that he hops up a little, hiking up the large bag on his back before motioning off into the direction of the woods.]
You ready to go where few have gone before?
[Time for a good ol' fashioned adventure.]
no subject
In a place as technologically advanced as Nadril, that should be easy -- and if they're building this railway thing to this location then they're connecting to a known place.
It isn't somewhere few people have gone, it should be a well known area. ]
Sure.
[ The trademark dismissive reply of someone who isn't really that into what they're agreeing to. He squints through his sunglasses around at the white, then lands his gaze on the pack Phoenix has. ]
So what's in the bag?
[ How well or poorly prepared is he? ]
no subject
[As sure as he said a few days before, Phoenix did not hesitate to go and get and supplies that he didn't already have immediately after his last conversation with John.]
Caving gear, also got basic tools to start a fire, a few torches, some preserved food. Oh! Also backed up some bread, tarts, and meat pies to last us the trip. Or at least for a day or two. And I have clothes, a sleeping bag, and a tarp packed in there in case we need to set up camp.
And of course this ol' thing.
[Lifting up his arm up he held up the same ornate looking staff that he had been carrying around with him back when he was helping guard the caravan with John a few months back.]
... Does that sound like enough?
[He's not looking for approval. Not at all.]
no subject
Do you have any water? And what kind of torches?
[ Wind-up? Battery powered? He shrugs off his own shoulder-pack to check through for anything he can give to Phoenix that he's missing. ]
no subject
[Like, the sticks. That you light on fire.
But at least they're well made and he has extra canisters so that they could relight and reuse them.]
Um... Anything else?
[He shifts awkwardly with that, not at all hoping to get Johns approval in all this.]
no subject
RIP Phoenix.
He squints at 'traditional', not quite getting what this means because he would never think to bring actual fire-base torches, then gives a vague shrug. ]
Think that probably about covers it. I've got a utility knife -- let me see the harnesses and stuff you got.
[ Before he commits to accepting it is in fact the right thing. If Phoenix has muddled up climbing and caving gear it won't be good if they actually do need it. ]
no subject
[Almost as if he had been waiting for John to mention it, Phoenix was quick to unload the lard back resting upon his back. Placing it down only to pull a set of leather harnesses, some buckles, and a thick rope. All obviously new and without a scratch or mark on them.]
I hope this is all right. I have a few spikes, clips, and a hammer as well. I know they're in here somewhere.
[Excuse him as he opens the large back pocket of his bag and begins rummaging through the insurmountable amount of supplies he brought with him.]
You really think we're going to end up climbing once we get in there?
no subject
[ John frowns at the enormous amount of things and begins checking over the harness with a squint (leather? They sell leather harnesses like this? Why does it feel weirdly kinky) and the rope. ]
But, the last thing they were doing was building a tunnel. Tunnels implies it's going underground. If the tunnel collapsed and they got stuck it would explain why they've all vanished, so I'm not ruling it out.
[ It's tragic how much more sensible John's theory is than the truth. He sighs, checking over connectors and buckles. ]
And, by the way, if they have been trapped in a cave in this is all extremely dangerous and ill advised.
[ Just a reminder. Just tabling that thought. ]
Oh god I'm laughing get your mind out of the gutter john
[And most probably not the last. He may not have been the most experienced with these sort of things, but he was fairly resigned to the thought that he was going to keep getting thrown into dangerous situations no matter how much he tried to avoid it.
So he may as well just embrace it and learn while he can! Right?]
Wouldn't be the first time I had a nasty fall in a mountainous climate either.
[It's sad that that's the truth.]
I should be able to handle it, I mean, as long as I have a good teacher.
[With that he lets off a small smirk, slowly beginning to place everything back into the bag.]
So, everything meets your standards?
He can't sorry.
I feel like you got these from a fetish club, but sure.
[ Did you buy these in Wyver, they seem to love leather in Wyver. ]
Welp there goes Phoenix's dignity.
[Wow.
Wow!
Excuse you! He has gotten these from a completely refutable source thank you very much!]
But they said the leather was the best bet for stabilized support while keeping it from digging into your skin. It's not like I got it from anyplace weird... I think?
[Then again it's hard to tell with how Olympia be sometimes.
None the less, his face is now bright red.
Thanks, John.]
Sorry not sorry
John squints. ]
Did you specify it was a caving harness you wanted? You didn't just say... 'harness', right?
[ Because there are... other... types of harness. John looks down at it sceptically again, as if he might discern what Phoenix asked for just from looking at it. ]
This is Hands Down the Best Path this could have taken
[His expression went completely blank, his eyes still wide with surprise. But it was as if he had just finally, well, processed it.]
I didn't think... I mean... I only thought harnesses were used for one thing.
[He absolutely forgot that there are harnesses that could be used for that reason.
His face is still bright red as he goes back to staring down at it awkwardly.]
no subject
John looks up from the harness and squints at the other man. ]
There are lots of types of harnesses. You know. Climbing, caving, diving... Dog harnesses, horse harnesses... recreational harnesses.
[ You know. Harnesses. ]
no subject
[Sweet naive man.]
Oh god, now I have to return it. Would they even do returns on that sort of merchandise?
[Unlikely.]
Jeez, this is embarrassing.
no subject
It isn't quite what he expected and that is... an option.
John winces slightly and gives a vague, non-committal nod as he holds the harness back out to Phoenix. ]
It's very nice leather.
[ See, he can say something nice. ]
no subject
[Suuuulllk.]
Man, I'm probably going to have to toss it. I can only imagine what Miles would think of me if he saw me bring it home.
[Pause.]
And now how are we even supposed to go cave-diving?
no subject
[ Nurse that slowly developing leather kink, Phoenix, and don't waste expensive gear! ]
no subject
[And there goes his face turning bright red again.]
I wouldn't even know how to deal with that sort of situation anyway. Probably just going to end up tossing it.
Anyway, we should probably start heading off right? Into the woods that countless travelers have vanished into?
[You know, like the sane gentlemen they are.]
