PRELUDE Entry to the forest is not only overgrown with vegetation, but seems to be growing at an increasingly alarming rate. Any attempts to clear the vines will be met with even larger ones growing in its place, and it only confirms Nurray's findings as true. The only way in is across the sound from Nadril, entering the forest from its snowy back yard. It doesn't stay cold for long; as one ventures further into the forest, the snow will disappear, as though it was completely out of place in the first place. The red sun's warmth will take its place soon after— and before long, you'll feel too warm for the clothes you came with. That's when you know you've entered the heart of Josa Forest. WITHIN THE FOREST ![]() The forest seems to be thick with a profound presence that can’t be ascertained. While venturing through it, one will feel like there are being watched or followed. This feeling will only intensify as metallic-scented drops of rain begin to fall between the clearings in the trees. Unfortunately, what many don’t realize at this point is that this is how the forest itself eats. How it subsists and lives through the minds of those who eventually get lost in it. Wandering this far in is akin to walking into a lion’s jaw, or rather… straight to its stomach. But, the forest has a way of making one stay. While it swallows someone up, it shows them sinfully beautiful and picturesque sights. Even showing them people or things that are familiar to the lost. All of which will urge them to go in deeper and deeper. But, while the forest begins to prey on the mind of their victim— they will suddenly hear an elegant and alluring voice urging them back. This voice promises them comfort and safety. Promises to be kind and open. Promises she has a place for them where they will never feel displaced or unwanted, or lost. Before they can fully accept, they will find that they are whisked away in Barthala’s embrace. Some will be taken, wiped of all their previous memories and inserted new ones. Others will find they have no prior memories at all of themselves, only urged to go on with regular life. What is prevalent is the forest's desire to turn you. Metamorphosis is a phenomenon that occurs only to certain individuals, and there is no rhyme or reason to them. Some adventurers would find themselves changing by the minute, the hour, or the process may even take days and weeks. The forest toys with you, but it only wants to draw you closer to its core — as though there's a story there it wants you to see and understand. Will you go on anyway, knowing the forest has already has its claws on you? I. ALL ROADS LEAD TO — YOUR NEW (NEW) LIFE ![]() Adapting to an entirely new setting isn’t always so simple. People often say that assimilating oneself to the environment happens fluidly, and before you know it, you’re a part of it. In Dranbu, these words hold an uncanny sense of truth. When you awake, your day begins like it always has. Your daily routine meets largely unchanged, except a few tinier details. Perhaps, you’ve realized your true calling is an occupation within the villages itself. Maybe in farming up strange medical herbs, maybe in acting as a witch doctor for the people, or maybe you find yourself drawn to the arts and you really enjoy sculpting fellow villagers in the nude. Once you commit these tasks, you realize, it feels like what you’ve always done. As if it were natural, as if you’ve done them for years, and maybe you have? At least that’s what your gut is telling you, and slowly your memories will too. At the end of the day, when you return home, you realize you’re not alone. You have a partner who shares the same values and whom you love deeply. Or maybe a spouse whom you’re always arguing with. But, even that will feel as commonplace as the rest of your day. All you know is that the day that might have started off not being yours is entirely yours and yours alone. IV. THE HUNT — THE BOUNDARIES BEYOND ![]() For some, placated is synonymous with bored. While there is a sense of wonder in the beauties of nature that adorn the woods, serene forest life isn't for everyone. Those seeking more adventure can explore the challenging slopes of Waco Mountain. Barthala's influence is weaker on those bluffs than in Josa Forest itself, so thrill chasers won't be disappointed. Lose the path, slip on loose rocks, fall into a stream and spend a night wet and cold, there are many perils that come with traveling a mountain-side. Scattered ruins offer some shelter, their walls carved with images resembling Barthala, a dragon, and three other stranger creatures. While the deity's pacification does not flow as deeply through this region, all are still save from mortal wounds, and the veil cast over their memories will not lessen. If you have made it this far, however, there is no reason to try to return to the main city of Dranbu. Accommodations are always available in the neighboring villages: Phares in the north, and Stroln in the south. These villages are in friendly competition with one another, and will tempt travelers with women and men of their kind in order to draw in business to their hotels. FINAL OOC NOTES
No REP is available for this log. REP will now be primarily available through achieving NPC quests, which will be available on the 19th! Please keep an eye out for that!
Dranbu is entirely available for exploration! You may find that most of Wyver and Olympia Flora/Fauna may be found in the forest as well. For more information on your characters' (opt-in) Metamorphosis, please refer to the November Outline!

Yoshiko Tsushima | Love Live Sunshine
The problem with traveling with Yoshiko is that she's almost supernaturally unlucky. Normally, this manifests as comedic injuries and her falling over in various places. But now? It's manifested in an entirely different way.
"I think we're lost," Yoshiko announces to her traveling partner, giving the forest a little frown. "Neither heaven nor hell has shown me the proper direction. Plus, I'm pretty certain I've seen that rock before," she says, as she dramatically gestures to a very impressive looking rock. "Shall I attempt to divine the exit or shall we simply accept our fate, damned to waste away in the jungle?"
two, partway through
They've made it to Dranbru. But the longer they stay here, the more restless Yoshiko becomes. This place is nice, she guesses? But it feels wrong. She wants to go back to the forest. Well, she wants to do a lot of things, but going back to the forest is one of them. It's partly due to this desire, partly due to a few other things in the back of her mind, that Yoshiko's decided to climb a tree. It feels right, being up here. She stays up in the tree for a solid fifteen minutes before scrambling down to one of the lower branches, hooking her knees around the branch, and dangling down, letting all the blood rush to her head as she looks at the world from a new angle.
Obviously, this is weird as hell. But Yoshiko doesn't seem to realize it. When any Thesaeans pass by, Yoshiko will start up conversation as if it's perfectly normal to hang upside down from a tree.
"What do you think about this place?" she asks, not really hiding the wistful and slightly melancholic tone in her voice. "Dranbu specifically, what do you think?"
three, near the end
You're walking in the woods. There's no one around, and your device is working. Out of the corner of your eye, you spot her...Yoshiko bat. She's following you, about thirty feet back. She flaps her tiny wings and breaks out into a sprint. She's gaining on you (Yoshiko bat). You're looking for an exit but you're all turned around. She's almost upon you now and oh wait nope she is upon you and she's straight up in your hair.
There's now a bat with a very familiar sidebun hairstyle stuck in your hair (or hat or other body part that hangs out on the top of your head.) She's also shrieking up a storm in a very familiar Yoshiko-sounding voice.
"Heeeeey?! What gives, get me out of here!" Bats may not be blind but this one is piss poor at echolocation.
one
[ That's a thing, right? Also, Chika remembers that rock, too. ]
If we go slowly in the opposite direction... maybe...
no subject
Plus, there's another problem. ]
Ah...which direction did we even come from anyway?
three b/c i had to go for that reference i'm laughing
Wait, no, that's just the extremely long and voluminous red hair Yoshiko-bat has managed to fly her way into. Ren wasn't expecting to encounter anything this close to the edge of the woods, so he starts a little at something running into his hair...but that shrieking keys him in to who it is pretty quickly.
After a brief, confused blink, he reaches back carefully to try and untangle...her? It feels like it's a bat in his hair, but that's definitely where the voice is coming from...]
Yoshiko-san...? [Ren may have noted the General Name Confusion on her party post, and with what seems to be going on here, he'd prefer to be a bit less familiar about things.] If you keep struggling, you're just going to tangle yourself up more...
no subject
Thankfully, she's so tangled that his hair is supporting her for now. But she is ready to quickly bolt and start flying should he somehow manage to untangle her. ]
no subject
Ren moves his hands back as she keeps struggling, but as soon as he can feel her stop, he starts threading his fingers through the strands of his hair a little above her, trying to pull it free section by section so it's a little easier on both of them.]
I thought it was both... [Both is fine, but that's not really the important question here.] What happened to you? I know it was Halloween last time we spoke, but this is a little bit extreme for a costume change, don't you think?
no subject
[ Halloween? Something happening to her? That's ridiculous. She's always lived in this forest. She can't think of a time otherwise.
She still remains still, though insanely nervous, as Ren continues to try and untangle her from his hair. ]

"What the-" And given that Molly is about as delicate to the creatures of the world that attack him as you would expect a murder hobo to be, he almost just snatches Yoshiko by her tiny bat torso and yanks, but at the last minute he hears that voice and stops.
"Oh fucking-" Not this shit again. "Yohane, dear. Stop. Breathe. And for god's sake, don't rip my earrings out."
no subject
"Get me out of here!" she whines. "I don't wanna be here, put me back in my tree!"
no subject
...Yep. That's Yohane, all right. Not her too. His normally cheerful expression has become one of defeat and irritation.
"Are you sure? Maybe you'd like to be somewhere not these woods? The novelty wears off after awhile." Also they turned her into a bloody flying rodent.
no subject
"I like these woods," the little bat complains. "It's safe here. Why would I want to leave?"

One!
Dylas has no reason to think that Yoshiko is bad luck or anything like that, but their first encounter had proven to him that she is, at the very least, quite strange. He stares at the rock and sniffs the air, trying to ascertain if they've passed through the area before, but he can't pick up his own scent or anything familiar. If anything, the entire forest smells entirely like 'too much forest, all the time' too him.
"Like hell I'm staying in here!" He whirls on his feet, turning to face her. "I'll pick which way we go!"
no subject
At least Yoshiko definitely knows she doesn't know the way out. Maybe not knowing the way out is safer odds.
"Then pick our direction, my little demon!"
no subject
He crosses his arms just like she does and pouts. He might be tall but he's not bringing any maturity to the group. His tail flicks to and fro, stirring up leaves as he tries to pick a road for them to follow. Unfortunately for the both of them, Dylas is a little hungry so if he doesn't stop thinking about that they'll end up in a meadow overflowing with carrots.
"We'll go this way, even littler human," he says with a resigned sigh, finally picking a path to the left. He starts off without checking to see if she's following...but then he stops to make sure she is. He can't abandon someone in the woods, he'd feel really horrible about that.
no subject
When he looks behind to check and make sure she's following, Yoshiko gives Dylas a confused look before she jogs forward to catch up.
"It can be little demon and Dylas. Little demon is a term of affection for those wayward souls who Yohane has placed underneath her protection."
And she strikes a stupid pose.

now I kind dof want there to actually be an emergency at some point, just so they can suck together
oh my god some of his powers ARE real, he's only lying about the one!
well then the emergency will just reveal that they're both liars. :p
that sounds like a great plan
( two )
That's Akechi's first thought when he sees Yoshiko. But while he stares for a moment, he ultimately doesn't hesitate that long before answering. ]
It's lovely, but I admit that I'm a little uneasy in so much nature. I'm much more used to cities than forests.
no subject
Well, there's no accounting for taste, I suppose. The nature's the best part of this! That forest was amazing.
no subject
I'm not denying it's amazing. I just can't help but be more comfortable in urban settings.
[ He finally approaches Yoshiko, looking curious. ]
Though it seems like the opposite's true for you.
[ Seeing how casual she is about being upside down in a tree, after all... ]
no subject
There's just something about this place that feels right. Like I'm supposed to be here and living somewhere else was a big mistake.

This is the second time in as many months that Katsura has ended up with a bat hopelessly tangled in his irresponsibly long hair, and this time he doesn't try to stay calm.
"Get yourself out of there!" Though as he says that, Katsura snatches fistful of his hair and drags it over his shoulder, hoping to get hold of Yoshiko without too much trouble. "The bats on this planet are so rude! Go get a flying license before you crash into someone else!"
no subject
Thankfully, the fistful of hair that Katsura grabbed does have a struggling, flailing bat trying to work her way out of the hair and utterly failing at it.
"I'm trying to get out!" Yoshiko whines, as she continues to struggle. "It's not my fault that your hair's so tangled!" Except for the fact where it kind of is.
no subject
Leave it to Katsura to only be serious when his hair is involved, of course. If he can get a hold of Yoshiko, he'll start carefully unwinding the strings from around her little batty paws.

This? This is really weird.]
Uh... it's fine? The weather's really nice, so...
Y-Yoshiko-chan, what are you doing?
no subject
You should climb up here and give it a try! It feels really nice—I think I'm able to think better this way.
no subject
[But seriously.] You know, if that branch breaks, that'd really be a problem!
[She's trying to be the responsible one.]
