Sacred Monument: w/Rocket & Murphy
"You're going, right?" he asks like it's a given. He's gleaned a few things from working alongside Rocket in the short time he's been here and wasn't rudely interrupted by his stretch in Dranbu. Mainly, that he cares much more than he lets on, and maybe that's something else they have in common. "I think I know someone else I can rope into helping us. Meet you on the transport?"
Sure enough, not twenty minutes later will see Frank Castle with a strong hand around John Murphy's elbow, all but tugging him along. His gaze locks onto Rocket as he shuffles them in next to him on the train to Wyver. He had prefaced this meeting by calling Rocket 'his boss' which might be why he has such a grip on the young man, he won't have him offending the one person he's managed to forge some type of kinship with.
"He's here to impress his girlfriend," Frank explains blithely, still eyeing them both to see what they'll do.

As such, Murphy's treated to Frank's boss being three feet worth of furball wearing a cloak over a blue jumpsuit and a toolbelt kitted out with a variety of odds and ends around his waist. His arms are crossed. His expression is confident, though irritable. He is attempting to command a presence much bigger than he actually is. Whether he succeeds is in the eye of the beholder, but the Napoleon Complex is strong with this one.
"Maybe if you tell that to the jerks trying to carve off a chunk of Darma's toes, they'll write you a sonnet," he mutters, his ringed tail swishing behind him. He's eyeing Murphy with the kind of incredulity of a person who is quick to make judgments based on appearances despite being the sort of person who gets judged by exactly that (and having a number of people in what might be called a friend circle- past and present- that definitely aren't what people expect). Frank seriously better be being sarcastic. He is not here to play wingman for a lovelorn, unproven kid.

Murphy's eyes squint, making quick sweeps across his surroundings, tries to pick out Frank's boss as if Murphy has a single damn clue.
How the hell does Frank even have a boss? He doesn't seem the type.
The train is already there, waiting for passengers to both leave and board it. Frank doesn't waste any time directing all of them onto the train. First of all, "I don't need to impress Emori," he grumbles, yanking his arm free of Frank's grasp. Secondly, "You're the one who asked me for help." Even though Murphy doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground.
And finally, "What in the hell are you supposed to be?" Murphy's gaze ticks down to the bipedal rodent and openly gawks at Rocket incredulously.
sorry guys!
"Manners," he snaps critically, stepping on John's foot with the sharp and heavy heel of his boot. Behave, the daggerlike gaze he gives the younger man seems to say, even as he shoves him deeper into the train and nudges in beside him before turning to Rocket. "Gang's all here." These two will be a handful, but he can't think of anyone better suited to the task at hand. He (thinks he) knows what he's doing.

"This is gonna be a delightful trip, I just know it," Rocket mutters, taking the lead once they've boarded since he's smaller and easier to get lost in the tangle of legs as people select their seats.
"Hopefully the ride won't get hijacked by demons this time." He's saying this not for anyone's benefit, but because he's a shit.
no subject
He stumbles forward, thanks to Frank pushing him. It's a good thing he is as lanky as he is because weaving through a crowd is easy. There are people all around them, all cramped up on his train. Murphy is visibly uncomfortable, has his arms tightly wrapped around him.
Small spaces remind him of the bunker.
That was just one bad time.
"Huh," Murphy says dumbly, his gaze drops down to where Rocket is. "You're joking, right?"
no subject
no subject
"But sure, let's focus on how a bunch of shitheads are giving Darma an unsolicited pedicure, and how hard I'm gonna hit them when I find 'em."
sorry my dudes, finals killed me
His attention flits down to Rocket. "The opossum makes a good point." He jerks his thumb down in Rocket's general direction. "Pedicure?" His brows furrow, it's not a word he's actually heard before. "What the hell is that?"
and then december in general took a bite out of me
"I'm not an expert or anything, but I think it's when you get your toes painted in the salon." They don't have salons in their weird post-nuclear society??? Shocking.
no subject
And meanwhile, his delightful sarcasm feels like it's going to be wasted on some of those present. He sighs and presses his face to the window. "Y'all can stick to the hitting things part of this, okay? That's clearly what we all can agree you're good at. I'll do the thinking."
no subject
Why would anyone want to paint their toes? That sounds more like a grounder thing. Salon? Doesn't Frank mean a saloon like in those old western movies? It's something that Murphy watched from the archives back on the Ark.
He was alone and may well have spent it doing something.
"I guess that's not an end-of-the-world luxury." Murphy assumes it is one, even if it sounds odd. "Let me make something clear, you're not my boss. I'm here because I'm helping you both out. And I'll let you know if you're thinking is stupid."
no subject
But the mystery is intriguing too. This is technically his op, isn't it? But he has no issue relinquishing the credit to Rocket, John or anyone else. He's never been in it for the glory despite his sometimes conspicuous methods.
"Maybe we could all get along and hit things together." That was more his angle from the start, honestly.
no subject
"You might be asking a lot from three extremely brash alpha personalities all in one space, but I'm down with it." He guesses. If he kills something and gets paid for it, it's a good day. "This is either kids being shits or somebody who knows what they're doing and I'm really hoping it's the latter. Beating up on punkass kids ain't worth it."
no subject
He wishes Bellamy was here. Bellamy, Echo, Monty, Harper, Emori. Anyone.
But he's stuck with Rocket and Frank. Things could be worse, Murphy supposes.
"Yeah," Murphy mumbles. "Punkass kids usually have reason to act like shits." Murphy knows, he used to be one. "Let's be the good guys and take in some criminals."

"Our stop is next, look alive."
Mapquest: w/Dutch
he swallows as he raises his device, having gotten lost for several seconds in his thoughts and completely forgetting what it is they're supposed to be doing. he wishes they would just get one of those google maps cars to drive around. things would go faster, and would no doubt be more distracting, which is what he needs right now. in the interest of that, frank clears his throat to get dutch's attention, just barely stopping himself from reaching for her arm. ]
If we get to higher ground we can cover more area at once. [ an obvious suggestion, but he points to a short cliff just ahead they could probably manage hiking without any gear. ]
a million years later
she didn't mind kissing him, that's not the problem and not the part she's trying to pretend never happened. it's that she told him she loved him, it's how deeply she remembers caring. dutch doesn't do that. (khlyen taught her that caring is a weakness, a vulnerability she cannot allow herself. johnny has proven khlyen wrong time and again, but johnny is johnny and there aren't many people dutch is willing to make that kind of exception for, even if the list keeps growing.)
it doesn't help that he keeps stealing these little glances at her, not touching her when he's already reached out, clearing his throat like that. she pushes that aside, too. ]
Not a bad idea. [ she considers the cliff for a moment, then considers him, as though gauging whether he can manage because clearly, she can. that's not cocky at all, that's just a fact. (right...) ]
worth the wait as always
I have my moments.
aw you /o\
You don't say.
[ she starts moving up the cliff, every motion confident. teasingly: ] Don't stare at my arse now.
<3
I thought we were here to admire the view.
[ too clever, and worse: too flirty. he makes a face and glances to the side like he sees something though it's definitely just an excuse not to look at her face. ]
no subject
No need to chart that particular area. [ she throws back.
because in their memories, he'd mapped it out long ago. because that didn't happen. whichever. ]
no subject
[ he admits, dryly, getting to the first ledge and dutifully snapping a few pics. if dutch happens to be in some of them, well!!!! it's not intentional (maybe.) ]
no subject
if she knew, she'd tease him mercilessly about it. but again: bit busy climbing higher and higher right now. she's using this as exercise and distraction and as a way to draw her own mental map of the place even beyond the snapping of pictures for official maps. ]
You don't sound so sure. [ she doesn't know about the pictures, but she can still tease. ]
no subject
They did say to be thorough.
no subject
They did.
[ a beat. ] You always do what people tell you?
no subject
Only when I can see the merit in it.
[ he does think for himself, he always had, even in the surface. and even in the fbi. in his life back home he's a free agent, but here he has others to consider. he won't discount anyone's helpfulness until they prove useless to the cause. ]
I take the path of least resistance whenever I can.
no subject
[ dutch doesn't take the path of least resistance even when she can, even when there'd be no harm in it. sometimes, maybe —but most of the time, she doesn't, if only to be contrarian, to prove that she can chose her own path. these days, that's important to her. ]
Sunken Treasure: w/Juno
You sure you wanna go down there? [ he's asking even while helping juno get his wetsuit secured and checking his oxygen tank. frank isn't entirely convinced there's any sort of sea monster down there, but he's not about to let it stop him either. ] Big fish.
[ he says by way of explanation. really big. ]
no subject
Never seen one before, [ a beat: ] well not a big one and not in person. Figured I could do worse.
[ but it's not the curiosity that has juno going down there, rather the fact that there's a job that needs doing and as of late he'd rather fill his time with junk to do than sitting around racking his brain over the mountain of personal problems he's got stacked up against him at the moment. he looks frank over briefly: ]
How was it?
no subject
[ and he wants to start with these fish? frank raises his eyebrows. ]
no subject
[ raise your eyebrows!!! they're met with nothing but steadfast determination. ]
They don't exactly have a place to get big where I'm from. They just clone the meat so what's the point unless you're throwing your money around to show off and want some big glass tank full of 'em.
no subject
Let me guess, you're from one of those dystopian futures I've read about.
no subject
Don't be a moron, I'm from Mars. Nothing dystopian about it. And there are no little green men and no I'm not a Martian.
[ he rolls his eyes. don't get all dramatic!!!! ]
no subject
You ready to go?
no subject
[ because while he's not exactly afraid of water, it's gonna be a first considering all he's ever known is one giant dustball of a planet. but when frank's finished helping there's a murmured out "thanks" because god forbid anyone else hear it. ]
So the name of the game is just avoid being fish food and get the cargo. Sounds easy enough...
[ how bad! can a big fish be! right! ]
no subject
It's that simple. [ no, it isn't, but he has already decided juno isn't getting hurt down there so he won't. that, at least, is simple. ]
no subject
Did you actually see it up close and personal at all when you were down there?
no subject
[ his humor is pretty dry if juno hasn't picked up on that yet. ]
no subject
Sure hope so. I really want its autograph.
[ unlike the wetsuit, the breathing apparatus isn't so hard to put on yourself, and once that's done, it's pretty much now or never. into that water, man. ]
