[Gabriel doesn’t spend much time in Olympia, if he’s ever there at all—for what it’s worth, he’s mostly given his allegiance to Wyver, as that’s where most of his personal connections are. He’s got less of those, these days, but he still favors one region over another, simply because it’s easier. Even with the train, he still doesn’t get over to Olympia much.ii. mapquest (wherever you want to be)
Sometimes, however, he has to pretend he has a job. He’s got to eat, after all, and this one seems easy enough, and detached from their formal guard enough. Reyes wouldn’t exactly say he’s a hunter, but sniffing something out and tracking it and doggedly pursuing it is most certainly part of his skill set, so all of this should be perfectly routine. The goal of this mission is a little more altruistic than he’d like, but money is money.
And the straightforwardness of the task has attracted others, unsurprisingly, to the point where Gabriel often finds himself accompanied by someone else in his search.]
We could make it a contest, if you want.
[You know, spice things up a bit.]
[This one’s easy too—an easy way to make some money, at least—but it’s a little more safety-in-numbers than chasing down poisonous lizards. Despite Reyes’ general assertion that he can do most anything on his own, even he can admit that it might be advantageous to go with someone.iii. out and about and around (not a quest, nadil)
Doesn’t necessarily mean he’s a good traveling buddy. He spends a not insignificant amount of time fiddling with the app upon receiving it, until—]
Say cheese.
[That’s all the warning you get as Gabriel flashes his network device in your face—if you weren’t quick enough to get out of the frame, you’re immediately presented with the picture of yourself, in all its blurry or potentially embarassing glory. Gabriel, for his part, seems very pleased with himself.]
Oh, good. It works.
[Reyes likes Nadril. Well, he doesn’t like that it’s cold, but given its general level of technology and the fact that its inhabitants are a third party with potentially interesting information on the Natha, he’s willing to give the region a pass on its weather.iv. wildcard
When he’s in Nadril, he splits his time between the trading centers and the outer tower—in the former, keeping his ear to the ground for any interesting rumors or, you know, looking at guns. In the latter, he takes to exploring, pouring over the labs and the left-behind items of refugees as if he’s going to uncover a new piece of the puzzle. He hasn’t had much luck.
Either way, he’s sort of approach-at-your-own-risk. If he senses that he’s being watched, however (and he is pretty good at that), he’ll speak up.]
Need something?
[I will write you basically anything u want. Hit me up on plurk atwhitticus or on disco at whitticus #8139.]

( because she knew that he valued information. tit for tat, why not )
I'll tell you about the planet I was on if you tell me where and when you were.
( was he interested in an alien planet? she'd see )
no subject
[Two can play at this game—she’s asked another unspecific question, but she’s also presuming that information about the planet she was on is something he’s curious about.
He might be, but if it’s not relevant to their current situation, he fails to see how it might be useful.]

( she leaves it hanging there for a few seconds, studying his expression before adding more )
The planet sang.
no subject
[Suffice to say, he's not sure what a singing planet is even supposed to mean.]
no subject
There are two structures, towers of a sort. They're said to sing -- harmonic resonances of the wind, precise positioning of the towers. No one really knows why but it's a beautiful sound.

[He says, in a way that doesn't indicate whether he actually thinks that sounds nice. What's interesting is how River keeps telling him things, as if she's going to entice him further. He knows this game.]
Who built them?
no subject
( no one really knows where they've come from only that the towers have always been there. and that they've always sung )
Quite a sight to behold.
no subject
[Of course, he knows she could be lying, but this seems like a fairly ridiculous thing to lie about.]
no subject
( oh, gabriel. there are so many more interesting things that she could have said and yet-- )
no subject
[Interesting enough to offer information of his own, which hasn't happened yet.]
no subject
( they've already covered that she's probably insane )
This is your first alien planet.
no subject
[Humans on his version of Earth were dealing with their own set of problems--no time to explore interplanetary colonies when they were busy fighting for their survival.]
We never made it past the moon.
[And even that hadn't turned out so well.]
no subject
( she's seen the future, remember, even if her future is different to his )
Once you get back.
no subject
[She seems determined to fix whatever went wrong here, and Gabriel isn't sure he believes that all their worlds really were destroyed, but getting off this planet seems like a long shot.]
