[Good at her job? Yes, Tina would say she was good at being an Auror and worked hard at it, but this was different-- Arresting people created a different circumstance than stopping shuttles. No matter what she was prepared for it wasn't that--

Worse, she was far from prepared for the compliments Newt gives and feels her cheeks redden further as she ducks her head, giving a short shake of it.]
That's different. And I barely held my own. [She insists quietly, before adding in just as firmly--] I'm not the one credited for capturing him, either, that was all you, Newt.

[So maybe she is good at her job, but she's not going to get a larger ego just for something that she believes is circumstantial-- Certainly, she went off facing who she did not believe was Percival Graves but she had no idea it was Grindelwald.

Huffing out a breath she turned her eyes upwards once more before adding in:]
Is there anything more you need to do?

[ He wants to say he had a tip-off, given how much Grindelwald let slip during the interrogation, how he'd spoken of the Obscurus like it was tool instead of a parasite and how Europe was all too familiar with his beliefs. Perhaps he should mention that Dumbledore ensured he was prepared, not necessarily for the false Graves but for the darkness flooding their world. However, it all makes him think of the way Grindelwald looked too pleased, mouthing an invitation — to join in something unsettling, no doubt. It left him curious.

And ill.

Instead, he cants his head, caught somewhere between surprised and delighted by her question. ]

Yes, I actually was busy looking for someone. [ quickly. ] A woman. An American. Short hair. [ he tentatively juts a hand forward, holding it at the top of her head. ] Tall-ish.

[ her. He means to say, no, he has nothing to do and no one to see and nowhere to go but right here. ]

[If she had any worry about his curiosity, it's lost with how easily he moves on. Her mouth already beginning to form words when he stops. Looking for someone--? If there's a heat rising in her that can only be identified as jealousy, she stifles it back.

It's not as if they weren't only friends, even if some part of her heart parted with him that day on the docks.

Even if he volunteered to come across an ocean to see her again-- Even if-- Oh. Rampant thoughts stop short when his hand lifts and she's reminded of a scene that she's repeated too often in her head to care to admit, but he doesn't go to tuck her hair behind an ear and in some ways he doesn't need to because the delighted smile floods her features anyway.]

Oh? [The question is amused and hopeful and for a moment she can forget the trials of the day in the comforts of Newt being... Newt. Tina boldly presses on:] Do I know this American, then?

[ The idea of anyone, least of all Tina, being jealous of someone for seeing him is so foreign that doesn't consider it. He can only return her brilliant smile with a temporarily emboldened one of his own. All this reminds him of the brief moment of reprieve with her, Queenie, and Jacob that crystallized in his case.

He still hasn't written his book or thought of what to say to her when he delivers it (or, perhaps, what to write in the jacket), so he says anything and everything that pops into his head, even his more nonsensical tangents. ]

No, you wouldn't. [ at this, he falters, head dropping as his hands move to stifle another laugh. ] I'm the famous one, it seems. [ trying not to sound pleased with himself — ] Seeing as she didn't, ah, get any of the credit for stopping Grindelwald.

[ you walked into that one, Porpentina Goldstein!! ]
goldsteins: (0010095)

[personal profile] goldsteins 2017-07-21 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
[No, you wouldn't. He's only lucky that his laugh keeps the smile from falling, even if her head ducks slightly-- Fingers going to twist hair behind her ear as she listens to what he has to say.

Her brows furrow momentarily and then arch at his comment, a snort of laughter escaping through her nostrils as she hastens to stifle it with her own hand. This is silly, but maybe that's the best medicine after the day they've had:]
No, but I do believe she got something more from it. [There's some bravery in the way she says it; Is she talking about her job as an Auror or whatever this is with Newt?

--Well she certainly doesn't say as she looks up at him .]
But it was only a matter of time before you became famous, certainly much to your own disapproval.

[personal profile] suffusive 2017-07-21 12:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Newt can only assume Tina means her job, but perhaps he's being purposefully obtuse. At least until he sorts himself out — and, of course, there's Leta. Well, there isn't Leta, given they haven't spoken in some time.

But there's an echo of her. ]

Quite. [ clearing his throat, his grin dips into something smaller and more private. ] Famous among Care of Magical Creatures professors and the occasional pupil who reads the byline instead of doodling over it. Or with haggard Ministry and MACUSA employees tracking something tricksy. Very glamorous.

[ it won't be, and he's glad for it. the spike in his fame post-grindelwald is already troublesome. ]

[personal profile] goldsteins 2017-07-21 02:08 pm (UTC)(link)
You say that now. [Her answer is quiet and she lets it hang there for a moment. She doubts it will be glamorous, for all of their differences she and Newt are alike in many ways. She just wants to do her own investigations without any trouble, Newt's the same.

The boost in courage wavers by now and she presses her hands deeper into the pockets of her trench coat in thought before carrying on:]
Well, then. Perhaps we should--? [Her gaze peers back over the wreckage she was dealing with earlier, shoulders rising and falling.]
suffusive: (n27)

[personal profile] suffusive 2017-07-21 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Yes, the wreckage. They should get back to being helpful soon. He takes a few steps forward and suddenly stops. ]

Yes, but first — [ he fiddles with his shirt sleeves. How to say this? ] — I met someone. Earlier. [ HE LEAVES THAT HANGING SORRY TINA. As is often the case, he's struggling for the right words. Finally, by way of explanation — ] Someone who read my book. Who liked my book, I think.

[ gotta talk about time-travelling wizards and also book reviews, after all. ]

[personal profile] goldsteins 2017-07-21 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)

[Newt, you are the least helpful person. She already stops short in confusion and then he drops that bomb.] What--? But you haven't even published it yet!

[If that is an admission that in the past three months she kept a look out for news, she doesn't flush from it.] This place is more balled up by the second...

suffusive: (n62)

[personal profile] suffusive 2017-07-23 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[ carding a hand through his hair. ] Yes, it seems like the Natha have a been a bit haphazard with their rescue points.

[ meaning that there are some future wizards about. ]

His name's Remus Lupin. And he has quite the, ah, unique set of scars... [ he trails off, not wanting to say a beast was involved but thinking it nonetheless. ] He was...amicable.

[Tina furrows her brow further. It is already too complicated, but she remembers the man now-- A Hogwarts professor who said Grindelwald was long captured. He'd mentioned no word of newt's book, but she supposed that made sense--]

[She lets out a puff of breath at the thought, irritable yet.]

There's another man. Sirius. I suppose he's the other wizard here, but i don't know-- He seems a little... unhinged. I disarmed him earlier.
suffusive: (n40)

[personal profile] suffusive 2017-07-23 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[ His eyebrows shoot up to his hairline. ]

You disarmed him? [ Well, she had said unhinged. Why is he even surprised anymore, Tina Goldstein. ] Actually, you did try to arrest me, when we met. [ back to the matter at hand — ] How did he take it?

[ Clearly, he isn't too concerned or perturbed. Intrigued, mostly. ]
goldsteins: (Default)

[personal profile] goldsteins 2017-07-23 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, well, you looked suspicious. And I was right; this man was preparing to hex me the moment I said I was an Auror. [She scowls at the thought-- she has good instincts, trained by Percival Graves. She might have lost her job due to recklessness, but it's something she stoodby-- helping someone in need.]

Of course he didn't take it alright.
suffusive: (n53)

[personal profile] suffusive 2017-07-24 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[ At that, Newt tenses. He knows that Tina can handle herself (better than himself, in truth), but he doesn't like the thought of someone attacking her, even if they failed. ]

Oh my days, that's — extreme. [ wanting to hex her for being an Auror, he means. He stops to look over her properly now, brows knit in concern. ] Are you all right?
goldsteins: (0010004)

[personal profile] goldsteins 2017-07-24 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Extreme's one word for it. [Certainly, she seems more frustrated and annoyed than anything like mad or fearful. Grimacing, she nods as she tucks her hair away with a shrug.] 'Course I am-- Well, I mean, no worse for wear than the rest of the day has been.
suffusive: (n71)

[personal profile] suffusive 2017-07-25 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, of course. [ Of course Tina's fine, but it's hard not to be unsettled by the presence of another, perhaps slightly darker, wizard here. Grindelwald had been gaining more and more followers before it the storm ended it all... ]

Do you think he's a threat to muggles?

[ because 90% of these refugees are variations on muggles. ]
goldsteins: (Default)

[personal profile] goldsteins 2017-07-25 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
That's-- I'm not sure? [She's rather deflated as she answers, exhaling before she shakes her head and adds:] He helped me at first, but even he described it as his "good dead"--

If they got in the way...
suffusive: (n57)

[personal profile] suffusive 2017-07-31 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
[ He mouths an 'O'. WIth so many skittish muggles about, a rogue wizard would lead to exceptional difficulties. ]

I'm sure you have the situation handled, but I'm available to help, if need be. [ A beat. He tips his head, looking at her with a measure of surety. ] I trust your judgment.
goldsteins: (0010000)

[personal profile] goldsteins 2017-07-31 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
[Well, at least someone does. Her smile is shy and appreciative as she ducks her head slightly before giving a laugh.] So long as he doesn't cause any trouble we'll be fine.
suffusive: (n2)

[personal profile] suffusive 2017-07-31 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[ as long as Tina says it's fine... he regards her for a long moment, just to be sure. ]

Good. [ he gestures back to the chaos around them. ] Shall we rejoin the fray?
goldsteins: (0010092)

[personal profile] goldsteins 2017-08-01 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
[She seems anxious and worried, but frankly, the situation surrounding them is enough of a reason to produce that.

Drawing out a breath, she gives a short nod.]
Well, there's still plenty to be done before the night closes.
