❪ introlog: #2 ❫ THE CALM.

OVERFLOW

You have spent the last few days on Thesa Station, taking in the knowledge that your world is no more. Perhaps you’ve made some friends (or maybe an enemy or two). Either way, you aren’t expected to spend all of your time on the Station. El Nysa needs you, after all, and you promised you’d help the planet thrive. Are you ready?

Submit any AC eligible thread of participating in this log's prompts for Two (2) Olympia REP points HERE.

TRAVEL LIGHT

You're really lucky, new refugee. Because of the efforts of those that came before you, your own descent into El Nysa will be quick and relatively painless. You get to reap the benefits of others' experience. Those that came before you are all well-versed in the art of teleportation now, and descending into El Nysa is simply a concentrated thought away.

A teleporter has been placed in the common areas to help the new refugees descend, but for this first time, you're going to need a little guidance. You're going to need to take the hand of someone who has been on El Nysa for a while now and learn the ropes. Hold on tight, Refugee, and don't be afraid when the blinding light hits you.

The actual journey will feel like a sudden whiplash— painless, but sudden, and maybe a little nauseating. Keeping your balance may be difficult, and it’s possible you might end up toppling onto your poor partner. Hopefully you’re at least thankful.

You have landed in a back alley in the Residential District of Olympia.
HOME SWEET HOME

Immediately, you notice that everything you've been told about El Nysa is true. There are people of all races here, and although no one bats an eye at your appearance as you enter the district, a member of the Royal Guard asks for your passport. They have a keen eye, and can tell that although you may be a new refugee to their city, they've never seen you before. Certain rumors of an outside force making preparations to do some major damage has them particularly on edge.

It's a good thing the Orbiters made sure you have an Olympian passport ready to go. You present it, and with a small nod, the Guard says nothing more and slaps a patch on your chest; to your surprise, it reads:
Hello! My name is
________________!

I am in House #___!
Are you my housemate?
... No matter how much you try, there's no removing this sticker. "It'll come off tomorrow," says the guardkeep. "Lots of refugees here, limited housing. It's an easy way to get to know the people you're living with. Though, if you ask me, why are we accepting so many foreigners when so many want to watch this city burn? Well, I don’t give the orders."

If someone greets you, the message on the patch will magically change:
Secretly, I _____, _____, and _____!
What are yours?
There's no telling how they'd known these things, but it likely has to do with Zasere. AGAIN.

It may be a good idea to get situated in your new home and set down some ground rules with your roommates. There is also, of course, much of Olympia to explore.
FLONA COVE
Word around the city is that one very cute and enthusiastic Olympian, You Watanabe, has been asking around earnestly for the nearest place to find some coastal fun. It didn't take long before a few locals pointed her in the direction of Flona Cove. Maybe it’s a good idea to check out the area. There are only a few more days left of summer, after all. Even if you're not the beach type, exploring a new area certainly can't hurt your understanding of El Nysa. Flona Cove is just a quick train ride away.

BEACH PARTY: Chances are, you've heard about the beach party being organized by You Watanabe, whether it be from her directly or someone who knows her. A lot of careful planning has gone into it, and it looks like a great time, so why not check it out?

Full speed ahead towards a great time! There's plenty of food for everyone, and plenty of watermelons that need splitting!

1. Various food vendors from around Flona Cove have agreed to offer free food for the new refugees, and they line the shoreline near the harbor, enthusiastically offering goodies such as seafood kabobs, ice cream, fresh fruit (including whole watermelons!), and hot dogs. You Watanabe herself has a grill where she’s cheerfully serving up her trademark "Niceoodles" yakisoba as well as other Japanese food like takoyaki and rice. What makes her noodles so nice? It’s obviously the cheerful smiley-face sun drawn on the omelette.

In exchange, the chefs and vendors only ask that you spread the word, though most of them have buckets for donations if you want to help chip back in. After the party is all done, however, there seem to be plenty of dishes that need doing, all in a big pile. You herself is working on getting through the mountain of dishes, but maybe you could lend a hand?

2. It's just not a beach party without the traditional watermelon splitting! For those of you who don't come from modern Japan on Earth, it might be perplexing at first seeing the literal mountain of watermelons grown with the help of Keyleth, another recent Olympian. If the bat-like sticks and blindfolds next to them don’t explain the purpose, though, you might just sit back and watch as a brave competitor sets a watermelon on the sand, ties a blindfold around their eyes, and has people start yelling at them which way to go. They consider the shouts of the crowd, take a swing... and strike nothing but sand. Perhaps you can do better?
There are beach activities galore. Now's the time to build the sandcastle of your dreams or play a game of beach volleyball. Maybe you're brave enough to surf the waves, or you’d just like to enjoy a swim. Mom friends who just want to lounge in the sun and read a book while working on their tan are welcome too, of course.

BENEATH THE SURFACE:
1. Diving beneath the waters in Flona Cove yield a whole new world on its own. Rent a scuba suit and take a trip to explore the corals, and you may even be lucky enough to run into a playful school of dolphins. Be careful-- they tend to get carried away and will happily drag swimmers for a wild ride.

2. You might want a boat for this scuba adventure, unless you're a strong swimmer. Venture deeper into the ocean, farther away from the coast, and adventurers will find some interesting stuff. Two miles southwest of the harbor, deep, deep into the watery abyss, lies a shipwreck. Exploring through the various rooms of the ship yields a few knick-knacks here and there-- rusted spare parts, cracked tea sets... a surprisingly well-preserved pin-up painting of Koralle?

The real treasure awaits for those who have the courage to swim beneath the ship's hull. Here, covered in algae and debris, lies the skeletal corpse of a winged, fanged, clawed beast. This is only a distant memory of its former glory, as nothing but bones are left, but something— something brilliant, catches your eye. Those hundreds of teeth are not bone, but a material so lustrous and pure, it nearly blinds. It will take some work, but with persistence and strength, it is possible to extract a tooth. Those that work in Simwe Institute or The Sanctuary may find it beneficial to take an extra for their boss— this is definitely something that is of interest to study.

3. Olympians love their luxury. There's nothing more luxurious than a secluded lagoon, the water at just the perfect temperature and pristine. This is one of the most sought-after spots for the natives, but when you come across it, it is completely peaceful and empty. For the tourists? Well, this place simply gets overlooked due to its distance from the main beaches. It's also relatively hidden.

Soon you start feeling oddly friendly?

Cupid’s Pool is also described by the people of Olympia as the touchy-feely pool. It has an inherent property that makes those who soak in it crave physical affection. Chances are you probably wanted to know this before you decided to take a dip, huh? (Please warn for threads appropriately)
EARN SOME SILVER
1. While many of the locals came together to offer their hands to provide a bit of entertainment for the surge in tourism, that isn’t to state that they’re fully staffed. Have a few hours to spare? They're willing to pay for your help. Maybe you’re just the cooking champ they needed? The lifeguard who showed up just in time? Or the star salesman at their humble accessory shop so desired?

2. The man who approaches you is even offering more than most of the vendors down the street. Sure, the guy and his entourage look kind of shady, but money is money, isn't it? If you accept, he’ll shove a strange swimsuit or two your way and lead you to the dressing room. What kind of job is this? Modeling, he says. Hopefully you aren’t camera shy!

Hey there, hot stuff. I like your look. Or maybe it's your... aura? Either way, I like what you're working with. How about you flaunt what you've got for some fat silver stacks?

He also wants to be able to test your charm, and is willing to pay a whopping 400 silver in exchange. He may even ask you to go "talk" (did you hear him say "hit on"?) to a couple of people, and “sell” yourself. Whatever that means... Incidentally, he says he’ll give you a signal once you get a pass. Feels like forever, doesn’t it?

3. Once night begins to fall and the people gradually begin to clear out, you’ll notice something... odd. There are some shady looking people around, and maybe you’ve been hearing whispers all day about a certain "fight club." Initially, no one will tell you a time or location, but if you are persistent, your efforts will pay off. Perhaps in light of helping a vendor clear out their stall or assisting that one Olympian native in distress, they’re willing to tell you a few things about this exclusive club.

They explain to you that it’s been a long-standing tradition of Olympia. Secret fight clubs. A place for people to stretch their wings and their fists. Moreover, the pay off seems to be pretty good! Though, they warn you that there are some aggressive competitors out there this time around. Things have been tough politically for a while now, and there is much unrest among the people. What better way to blow off some steam than to beat someone up and make a bit of bank! Fights are not to the death, simply until a knock out, but accidents (and "accidents") do happen.

Finding the crowd of people will take some searching, even with directions. They meet along the northern coast of Flona, by following a path leading underground, well away from any civilization. Once you’re there, why not participate? You may find yourself facing off against a fellow refugee.

[By the time Amaterasu's arrived in Flona Cove, there are some native stragglers gazing at her peculiarly. It's not every day a wolf rides a train first class, but she doesn't pay them the least mind, already setting off to familiarize herself with the area—]

beach party: wildcard-ish. (please forgive this disobedient mother, You, angel of party throwing.)

[For those who know her, and heck, even for those who don't, it probably won't come as any surprise that the first place she discovers is sweet You's party. The food vendors, especially.

It won't be long before she finds the party planner herself, but for now, she's easily spotted: sitting at the corner of the hot dog stand, licking her nose, and huffing whines. "I've given you five, there's a line!" the cook argues, and she argues back, groaaaan-grumbling.

Or it's just as likely she's harassing someone in one of the lines, circling at their legs, trying to nip a sleeve to get them to drop something. Yes, even rearing up on her hind legs, coming up a few inches past five feet, whining enthusiastically. You're not going to eat the whole ice cream cone, right?]

explore & play.

[Seeing her lope around the coast, or among the lagoons, is incredibly easy. She's naturally inclined to want to scour every inch of any place she can get to, scents tugging and beckoning her along. But… she is a horrible swimmer, and she cannot get into deep water without aid, and so it's possible someone might catch her in a tantrum when she comes to her limits—rumbling into a frustrated growl, then falling suddenly, unceremoniously, melodramatically onto her side, and there she goes, sliding herself along, leaving a streak of darkened, disrupted sand in her wake.

At other points, she's running where the water meets the shore, splashing, going back and forth. All canine, running for the blissful sake of running. She finds drift wood and drags it around, in circles, in backwards circles, her tail flagging. It's so simple, and maybe stupid, but gosh, it's really pleasant. And she even falls, and vocalizes in cheery whining groans, kicking her legs, out of sheer joy. Ah, it's all context, isn't it?

Maybe it's you that, to your left, a little hermit-like crab is scuttling closer to, mistaking your shadow for cover, because snuffling, black, wet wolf nose and dampened muzzle aren't far behind, following eagerly after. It tries to draw into itself, and she touches it with that cold nose, and it snaps claws, and she sneezes a huff and jumps wildly, ridiculously, trips over her own back legs, and then once corrected, leans her neck in toward it again.

The most unusual sight might be the six enormous lily pads floating in the ocean, leading away from the bank, and wolf perched in the middle of a seventh. …She's run out of ink, though (the necessity for bring them to life), and she hasn't really gotten anywhere. A shuddery whine is let first, and when she lifts her head to look back toward the beach, her gaze lands on whoever might be watching her, and she throws her head back to elongate her cry. Then, she plunks down in the middle of the lily pad, paws pressed heavily on the edge so some of it dips into the water, and she shoves her nose into the sea to blow bubbles. Another… fit…]

earn some silver: 3

[Sketchy people or not, if there's a chance to practice fighting, odds are Ammy's there. It doesn't take long once night falls for her to overhear people talking about it, and. Well, after two times of trying to get a chance to be a competitor (no one's really taking her seriously), she finally opts to make her point by leaping in front of what may be at least one native opponent, intending to muscle her way in to take his place.

Perhaps you're the one who was going to fight the guy she's blocking now, or perhaps you're getting ready to make bets.

In either case, she's crouched, bristling out of electrified anticipation, ready to prove herself, and vibrating with a deep growl. Whoever's looking on, opponent or not, if they've no belief in gods or the spiritual: they'll be faced with what appears to only be an amber-eyed white wolf. And maybe the only thing strange about it is that it must have rabies, right? Wolves don't care about people, or their games. This is a little bit crazy…

On the other hand, if they can truly see her, her ethereality—how she radiates light, the feathers at her shoulders, red swirls, the reflector hovering over her hitched shoulders, rotating with cleansing fire, ink dripping off her waving tail—then they likely won't have any doubts why she's here. At the least, they wouldn't as readily question it, surely.

But the majority of spectators seem to think it's a joke, guffawing about the dog who wants to play with the big boys, elbowing each other. Someone, irritable, starts to head over to (try to) drag her away, but someone shouts, laughing since it's hilarious of course, to give the pup a chance. "—it'll be over quick, yeah?" More agreeing laughter around him, and so she's left… This round definitely requires knocking out a wolf. Good luck.]

wildcard.

[up for literally anything.]

(hi! ;v; if you want to discuss stuff, you can reach me by PM or at [plurk.com profile] sleepiest. for the fight club scenario specifically, please get ahold of me to discuss how you'd like the outcome to be. i don't want to step on anyone's toes! let me say here that, while ammy's a god, and she will be very difficult opponent, she's weakened, and by all means, your character can definitely defeat or best her. alternatively, i can have her fight an npc, and your character can be placing bets for or against her, and we can do something with that after??)

[ You is going to have to forgive this lady too, given that Athena has already asked for extra plates and an hour later is back in line for something else. At least this time she's distracted by Ammy whining for more food, instantly stepping to tell off the server for denying such a sweetheart. ]

Just one more won't hurt, I'll even give it mine if you want? How can you say no to that face?

[ Athena is definitely holding back from just reaching down and fussing her, but it's taking a lot of effort. The cook sighs, rolls their eyes and holds it out. ]

But you're forfeiting yours, no more after this either.

Thank you very much!

[ Her hands clasp together in joy, before she takes the hot dog to offer it down. ]

Here you go, though I don't think you'll be able to ask for more from then after this.

[Ammy watches this exchange with the most sparkling, hopeful saucer eyes, dampening the corners of her muzzle with the drool… of… more hope… Who is this angel from above?

Across the sand, her tail wags relentlessly, throwing up little bits of it, and she whines her gratitude before leaning in to… chomp the hotdog down in one bite. It's gone. That was it. Athena's heroics were used for .02 seconds of feasting. I mean, did she really taste it, even? And she's already running her nose over the sand, optimistically seeking more, which, of course, there isn't any.

So, she plunks down, puts her desperate eyes on the girl who helped her get more food, and wh- whimpers for another. Or at least, something different. There's got to be more food, right!]

[ Woah woah woah! Athena's hand snaps back as soon as Ammy has the hotdog, chomping on it in one bite so it disappears equally as quickly. It isn't what she expected at all, but...

How is she supposed to handle whimpers like that? She can hear the desire for food in her voice, and Athena's own head ducks down as she fights with herself. ]

How am I supposed to say no to that? [ Her hands move to ruffle Ammy's fur gently, though the cook of that stand is trying to shoo them away now. ] Maybe there's a different stand further down that will give us something?

[You does see Amaterasu wandering around the fringes of the party. Of course, such a large, unique-looking dog (wolf? she can't tell) who seems perfectly comfortable in a large gathering of people clues her in pretty fast that this critter is one of the refugees. Though, she assumes a pet at first.] Hi! You look like you're hungry, yes you do!

[It's okay, You. She's shameless enough of a being, divine or not, to wiggle wiggle wiggle at this baby talk, and what sounds like the potential for more food. And so the one who has put the party in place has that large doggy-like thing moving toward her, licking muzzle, whimpering in excitement, fidgeting on front paws, and waving her tail.

[You stands up and steps back to grab a skewer, and one-two-three spears a trio of takoyaki.

She moves back to the friendly goddog and crouches, holding the skewered takoyaki out as an offering.]

[ Though she largely remains on the outskirts of the party, more with an eye to make sure nothing extreme happens, the one place she doesn't seem to mind getting involved with is the vendor area. She'd been enjoying an ice cream cone when she noticed the giant dog-- no, wolf?-- first. It seemed intent on getting whatever food it may.

Even after its had its feel.

For a while she concerns herself with her own ice cream, but when the animal doesn't waver she settles and goes to one of the vendors with the shortest lines to buy something before approaching her quietly, slowly in offering: ]

[Does this generous woman realize she's saved someone from a really unfortunate fate? Okay, so maybe just aggravation… Because, see, Amaterasu's locked her eyes onto some man with what looks like a couple El Nysa-style sliders, and she's in the middle of considering slamming her head against him to get him to fall over and drop at least one.

But Tina starts to speak to her, a partial distraction at first, and interest presents itself by one ear flicking in her direction. It flicks back quickly to focus on the man again, but she continues, with offer of food, and wolf turns to her now immediately, lower teeth showing in doggish smile, gaze bright.

She goes to her, out of the way, already tucking her ears down in that customary display of gentleness, muzzle already trying to reach for her fingers.]

[It's probably an odd sight, the fact that Ignis is traveling the edges of the sandy beach in his normal clothes, button up shirt, suspenders and loafers, even a pair of leather gloves. It isn't that he doesn't understand how to dress for a beach party, it's just that he's not interested in changing his attire. He also... doesn't like being in a state of undress. Just his personal preference.

But then maybe stranger still is this considerably oversized dog (wolf?) with unique markings that continues to hassle the vendors and customers for food. Not that Ignis has really paid the animal much attention, too occupied with asking a variety of questions on the food and trying what he can. That is until he's about to try something and there's a distinct bump of something against his leg. He glances down, and there it is, that dog again. Ignis frowns.
]

I've nothing for you. [And he's just going to. Nudge her away. Gently, of course. But otherwise he doesn't intend to give her even a bite.]

[Doglike as they are, there are a number of ways wolves differ from their descendants, and rubbing against other wolves (and sometimes people) not unlike cats is one of the biggest contrasts. This is what she'd been in the midst of doing, getting as close as possible to Ignis, all set to plead, but… he's nudging her away. Carefully, not unkind, and the whine comes instantly, and one would think he had struck her, or called her bad dog, or killed her own mother. Not that she has a mother to be threatened, but. You know.

The point is: dramatics; and probably how she has the obstinate conviction of wolves, too. Once her mind's made up, it's made up. So she collapses heavy on his shoes, and paws his legs, and cries. Clearly, she hasn't been starving, but whatever he has smells… so good. Just give Mom a little bite!!]

[ this is perhaps the closest izumo has ventured towards the water. still, she is a good five feet away from where it kisses the sand, but she has forgone the shelter of her large beach umbrella to wander over to where most of the festivities have died down, appreciating the (somewhat) quiet and privacy so she can stare out at the waters and marvel at how similar it looks to those she's seen on earth.

it's the hermit crab to draw her attention, scuttling towards her and bumping against her foot in its haste. she peers down at it in curiosity. truly it's the calm that the waters had filled her with that keeps her from jumping at the sight of the large white wolf that approaches it, its markings bright red and blatant. izumo manages to gather her bearings and keep quiet as amaterasu sniffs curiously at the crab. what a surreal moment. ]
