[ She takes after him — not surprising — but it might be good to try something different. Neither of them have their suits, and his utility belt remains woefully unequipped. Diana would tell him if there was anything suspicious going on, but it wouldn't hurt to have another inside man there. He can't think of anyone else he'd want nearby if something did go wrong. ]

[ Bruce knows what he's ordering, he waits for Diana to pick. It does feel longer than that, with everything that's happened. People haven't woken up in such large numbers for a while. He waves a server over, letting Diana and Cass chat while he gives the poor waiter a very precise coffee order. ]

I understand. Let me know if you change your mind. A position in the city could prove useful in gaining information about this place.

( it didn't have to be with the guard, though, there was work all across Olympia and any knowledge could probably help them.

it is a very precise coffee order indeed, and one Diana practically has memorized now. this is not the first coffee they've had together. she asks for the affogato al caffè, with a perfect accent — while it sounds luxurious, it's actually just espresso over ice cream.

turns out that's her favorite way to have coffee, who would have guessed! )

Do you know where you will be staying, Cassie? I believe they have housing assignments for refugees, but your situation might be unique. ( if they are family, Diana simply assumes they will stay together, even though reality is not always that simple. )

[ The water, now blinking a little rapidly from the coffee orders, gets a small smile and the request of a mocacchino from Cass. Coffee and chocolate, who can go wrong with that? ] I will.

[ She also wants to learn things - not to say that the Guard won't be an opportunity for that, but fighting is less about learning and more about doing, for Cass. Mostly because the learning curve is very sharp, and very short. ]

I don't know. Not...together. [ She tilts her head to the side a little bit, almost like a shrug. ] It will be good? To meet new people. And learn about them.

[ He clarifies, ]

I'll be nearby.

[ Living together would have been expected at the Manor. But he hovers anyway, he doesn't need to be in her space to do that. The benefit of experience says a girl her age needs her space and her freedom. Besides, it's good to get out a little. Diana will be a good influence. ]

We should talk joint training.

[ He has sessions with Diana, and will with Cass once she's settled. But they're a whole team, they need to know each other's strengths and weaknesses. ]

You always are.

( she says it fondly, but don't think she has not noticed your tendency to magically be nearby pretty much all the time. Batman would be gifted at hovering, wouldn't he?

shared training? there's something a little bittersweet about that, knowing the last time they had orchestrated a shared training, it was with Clark. still, her answer is the same as it was then. )

Of course. I should like to see what you can do, Cassie.

I would like to show you. Both, [ grinning at her father. ] I have no...schedule.

[ He knows that, she knows that, but still. She'd love to train, right now if it were possible, but instead their drinks arrive. ]

Not for long, [ he replies. They both need to fill their time. ] Tomorrow morning, Diana?

[ He sees no reason to delay it. ]

( Diana is a lady with a schedule, but she can always find time for the people that matter most to her. Bruce matters — Cassie, his family, matters. even by extension. the waitress is arrives with the requested drinks and a murmur that the food is on its way, so it is after she departs that Diana nods. )

Tomorrow. After midday.

( she's required at a shift before then. )

I imagine I know where to meet. ( Bruce has already secured a space for training, so it makes sense that they'd use it. )

[ Cass imagines that her father has already handled that kind of thing, and is decidedly unbothered by this.

Besides, she's got hot chocolate to consume.

Though, one quick question comes to mind: ]

What is your weapon of choice?

[ She turns to Batman, grinning. ]

I met a girl who fights with swords.

[ He's also a man with a schedule, but the Institute is decidedly flexible about its lunch hours. ]

[ This friend of hers is new, Bruce nods to her amiably in approval. She's a smart girl, and she can handle any trouble. ]

[ Now if it was a boy — ]

A girl with good taste. ( Diana herself likes the familiarity of a sword in her hand. ) I prefer sword and shield myself, though I have practice with more than that.

( this is kind of the understatement of the century. )

What do you favor, Cassie?

She is interesting. Arya. She doesn't trust computers. Or the phones.

[ Which means getting in touch with her might be tricky but she also has family here, so probably not too tricky. ]

Staves are fun, but I'm used to just using my body most of the time.

Diana's being very modest.

[ Both of them are, really. Says the person who really enjoys facing them in a sparring session. Diana he knows he can't match physically — hard to with a demigoddess, and Cassandra's all set to surpass him in terms of skill. ]

She's not familiar with all the modern styles we know, but don't go easy on her.

[ Another man might punctuate with a wink. Bruce's mouth curves briefly. ]

She may not have such devices from her world. They are odd to get used to.

( Diana can't say she loves using her phone, either, even though she doesn't suppose any information will sneak off of it. Bruce saw to that.

Diana knows what that near smile means, the playfulness it indicates. her smile in return is not so fleeting. )

I learn quickly. And that is not modesty. ( she's seen some of the modern styles Bruce speaks of, and she's excited to see more. she turns her smile on Cassie. ) I look forward to seeing them, then.
