Who: Mephisto Pheles (
meinwaifu) & Rin Okumura (
demonly)
What: Demon brothers bonding over an unexpected familiar face.
When: Two weeks after the disaster that was their last meeting.
Where: Thesa Station, Stasis Unit
Warning(s): None
"Come to the stasis unit when you have the chance. There's something you need to see."
[The question of how exactly Mephisto got his number might just be on Rin's mind when he gets this message out of the blue one day. The username mephychan makes the sender obvious enough. But should he decide to heed its call, he'll find Mephisto standing at the entrance to the stasis unit, leaning against the doorway as if he's been there a while. In fact, depending on just how long until Rin decides to show, he might look even more tired than usual -- which is saying a lot for a guy whose chronic insomnia has awarded him with perpetual guyliner under his eyes.]
Ah... good to see you again, Okumura-kun.

But that doesn't mean he's gonna be happy about it. ]
What do you want?
[ Is all the response Mephisto will get to his greeting, tone snappy. His attire is delinquent-passing as usual, the Kurikara slung across his back a constant. ]

[And he's not about to beat around the bush in case Rin decides to up and leave. No, he has a very important reason for bringing Rin here -- one that even he isn't sure how to feel about. And while he knows he shouldn't be allowing for any suspense to build after the way their last conversation panned out, this was definitely the sort of subject that required a delicate touch.]
[Which is why, rather than simply leading Rin there, he raises a hand and snaps his fingers -- instantly teleporting the both of them deeper into the Stasis Unit itself, into an area Rin wouldn't have explored before (not that it's very easy to tell one area from another in a place like this).]
As I said in my message, there's something here that I wanted to show you. Something it would have been inappropriate to tell you about over a simple text message or phone call.
no subject
What? Ya gonna show me all the Demon Kings now?
[ Not like he knew their names or what they looked like, so he hasn't tried looking for them. ]

[There's a part of him that feel like he should enjoy what's going to come next. It's not as though he would expect anything less of Mephisto, for how much Mephisto delighted in tormenting him when he was alive.]
[But he knows there's an opportunity here for damage control, and perhaps to start them off in a new, better direction. Everything he said before was true, after all. For all his flaws, Rin had the potential to be a powerful ally -- and he wasn't a connection Mephisto wanted to lose.]
[He turns and takes a few steps down the hall, before gesturing down one of the corridors.]
Around this corner, and approximately a hundred feet down the hall... there's a stasis pod containing Father Fujimoto.
no subject
Something washes over him immediately, something in-between fear and guilt and anxiety. When he'd heard that other people who had passed away had been stowed in these pods, Rin had avoided thinking too much about the possibility that his father may be here - mostly out of fear of facing what it might feel like to see him again. And to avoid getting his hopes up. It was one thing to visit his grave, that was something he could handle emotionally; but to see his father in the flesh again, considering the last time he had, it had been both 1) during the most traumatic event of Rin's short life and 2) his body had been covered in blood...its a completely different story.
It's only been about a year, after all.
The notion that he could be here isn't a shocking one to him, but the confirmation still leaves a heaviness in his chest. It takes him a few long moments to break out of being frozen by dread - but when he follows, he keeps his distance from Mephisto. When he speaks, his voice is almost meek, uncharacteristically unsure for someone like Rin: ]
But... ain't that mean he could wake up again?
no subject
[He's intentionally choosing not to face Rin, to give him some semblance of privacy, as if to let him think he actually cares about his feelings or something--]
Evidently, the Natha aren't too picky when it comes to whether those they save were dead or alive... though considering Kamiki-san's situation, it's just possible he may simply be from a time shortly before his death.
no subject
[ Rin mumbles, more to himself than anything - if he could count the number of times he wished he could take back everything he'd said that night shortly before his father's death?
He just gives Mephisto a long stare as they keep walking, as if he's trying to decide what to make of this supposedly genuine thing Mephisto is doing for him. It's less that he doesn't know what to say but more that he doesn't have anything to say (for once), choosing instead to set his jaw and fuss with the strap across his chest.
Once they get to the mouth of the indicated corridor, he hesitates, still giving him a very-hinted-skeptical look, though he says nothing to show this. ]
no subject
[He stops as soon as they've both turned the corner, still with his back to Rin and his arms folded behind his back. Even without looking at him, he can tell where his thoughts must be right now -- particularly with that little revelation. Oh, how stressful it would be if Fujimoto were to wake without knowing he had died!]
...if you'd like a moment alone, you're welcome to it. Father Fujimoto is just ahead.
But if you feel you're not ready to face him yet... well, it's not as though he's going to find out.
1/2 emo pt.1
I ain't scared of the old man.
[ No one said you were, but he needs some way of acting and proving that he is stronger than he is in this moment. ]
2/2 emo pt.2
It's really him. Like, alive-ish and without blood pouring out of his eyes and with all ten fingers in tact.
His face twists up, and he scrubs at his eyes with a fist before hot tears can spill over his cheeks, ducking his head – as if Mephisto might somehow magically sense that he is...well, a short step away from breaking down. It hurts to feel familiar guilt again, and seeing him like this makes Rin long for the opportunity to say I'm sorry, dad, more than ever before.
The time that he's been in awake, he's been shrugging off the weight of how hard it is to be without family, but it all weighs down on him all at once. No matter how hard things were between he and Yukio in the present...he wishes he were here to see this.
It takes at least 4 minutes for Rin to make his way back to where Mephisto is, hands back in his pockets and his head hung slightly so that his fringe falls in front of his eyes – an attempt to cover up the vague pink tinge around the corners of them. He's had enough time during the short pace back to come up with something to say, expression a mixture of somber and deep in thought. ]
Ya really think he won’t remember anything…?
no subject
[Really, it might be easier to assume Mephisto was faking it all -- but then, Rin didn't really know a lot about him. Particularly where Shiro was concerned.]
I'm afraid I can't say for certain one way or the other. I've heard rumors of refugees who claim to have been saved after their demise, but without someone who can verify their death after the fact, it would be difficult to say whether they truly died before being brought here or not.
But whether he does or not, I can't imagine it would come as a surprise to him after seeing the way you are now.
no subject
[ Not that he would care; he would almost welcome it, at this point. He hasn't really ever thought that much about what his father would think of him as a demon in the flesh, since it wasn't exactly a possibility for him to find out before...but he supposes it'd be pretty obvious why he was like this.
There's a lot of maybes and should've-could've-would'ves about the event of his death as a whole, but Rin's past the point of regretting doing what he had to. He just wishes he hadn't had to do it at all. But at least now he gets why Mephisto decided to tell him this face to face rather than through text or call, because Rin would've called bullshit or not shown up. ]
But I don't know if it'd be better for him to remember or not. Since he's gonna know either way.
no subject
[Something he looks vaguely put out about actually, bringing a hand to his chin.]
[Shiro wasn't exactly a topic they ever spoke about, so chances are Rin knows little to nothing about what sort of friendship they had. But considering the sort of person Mephisto was with everyone--]
...hopefully they didn't leave him in there with a gun on him...
no subject
Tch, what's that supposed to mean? I thought you were friends.
[ Is there reason for Rin to doubt and be suspicious of Mephisto, even in light of this? His head's swimming still emotionally, so the idea doesn't simmer with him as much as it should - like, god, there had to be some reason why his dad entrusted him to this clown of all people. So what's with the chagrin.. ]
Or are ya trying to say he'd feel like shooting ya after seeing the way things turned out?
no subject
[You know, since birth, basically.]
Which is why he had no problem threatening me with violence whenever I pissed him off... he was rather wild in his younger his years, after all. I'm almost certain if I weren't his superior, he would have tried it at least once.
