Dinner At 6
Who: Slaine Troyard (
terrantrash) , Norba Shino (
galaxycannon) , Yamagi Gilmerton (
cariad)
What: Slaine's been invited to dinner.
When: After Yamagi's invitation.
Where: Yamagi's place.
Warning(s): N/A
[To say Slaine's nervous is an understatement. He can't remember the last time he was invited to dinner by someone he actually wanted to have as dinner company. Yamagi's invitation had been one he accepted reluctantly, but admittedly was looking forward to. Dressed in a simple button down dress shirt and dark pants, Slaine cradles the bottle of red wine he bought earlier in the day in one hand to knock with the other. He wasn't sure what to bring, and although he didn't have much...it felt wrong to show up without anything. So, wine. Martians loved wine. Couldn't go wrong with a bottle of red, right?]

He's not really dressed for something nice. He doesn't have 'nice' clothes that aren't for his night job. He throws open the door with a longsleeved crew neck and a pair of jeans, grinning at his first dinner guest ever. ]
Hey! You're Slaine, right? Come in!
no subject
That's the first thing that strikes Slaine as he immediately lets his gaze shoot up to meet Shino's gaze, noting the striking height of the other boy, much to his alarm. He's loud too, voice booming...but he seems friendly enough. That doesn't mean Slaine's free from feeling tense. Nodding, hugging the bottle of wine to his chest, he forces a smile onto his own face.]
Thank you for having me.

[The excited query from the kitchen is followed by the noise of a couple of pans--perhaps several--clanging off something and onto the floor, just as something else sizzled on the stove.]
It's fine! It's nothing! Shino, show him in already.
no subject
[ Shino moves out of the way and holds out a hand. He's a shy little thing, isn't he? He looks like he's trying to fold into himself to hide. Shino's not used to shy people that aren't like Yamagi. ]
I'll take it and put it inside. Won't drop it, promise!
no subject
I hope you like it.

[When he pokes his head out of the kitchen area, all looks well, almost, save for the splatter of sauce on the front of Yamagi's apron--worn over a plain shirt and pants to match--and specks of food dotting his left cheek. He looks at home with being messy, even if his usual mess doesn't normally include food.]
Shino's one of my best friends. He's also from Mars, but he's nicer than he looks [since Slaine already looks apprehensive enough as it is] I've been telling him about you since the night before.
no subject
Ehehe, I've never had it before, but I bet it'll be fine.
[ He passes by Yamagi to park the bottle on the counter, away from stray elbows and hips that could knock it onto the floor. ]
Yeah, yeah, Yamagi's really talked you up.
no subject
[Well that's...embarrassing. Slaine can feel the heat rising in his cheeks as he looks between the two, not exactly feeling comfortable being the center of attention. It never ended up being a good thing, being in the spotlight, at least from his experience.
Just what have you been telling him Yamagi?]
no subject
[Even Terran-Martians. He wonders if they have the right glasses for this, but that thought takes a backseat to the boiling water foaming out of the pot with an angry hiss. He's been trying to give this pasta thing a chance. He's seen Takaki make it. How hard can it be?!]
Shit! I mean, dammit, why's the water angry?!
no subject
What? Angry? Didya piss it off, Yamagi?
no subject
But pondering over Martians or Terrans is pushed aside immediately as soon as the sound of water spilling over with a hiss reaches Slaine's ears. He springs into action, nudging Yamagi aside as he reaches for the dial, turning the heat down from max to medium.]
It's 'angry' because it's boiling...it doesn't have to be on max.
[It's a good thing he came when he did.]
Would you like me to take over?
no subject
Cooking really is a waste of time.
Remembering his conversation with Euphie earlier, he decides to nudge Slaine into his comfort zone. He probably still feels best when he's being useful.]
Be my guest--which you totally are.
[A damp wooden spoon is handed ceremoniously to him]
Work your magic, Troyard!
no subject
Hey... Yamagi, what should I do?
no subject
There...that shouldn't be too bad.]
It shouldn't take too long.

[he maneuovers deftly around Slaine to retrieve two knives--only one of which is sharp--from one of the ancient drawers.]
Help me peel and carve out these potatoes, and tell me about your day yesterday. We keep missing each other and our shifts hardly overlap.
[And it'll be the easiest way for Slaine to learn about them without having to be in the awkward position of asking questions.]
no subject
[ He can be tactless, but he knows the day job details are better shared here than the night ones. ]
But sure, I'll lug them over. Can ya get me a knife in the meantime?
no subject
no subject
[His knowledge of physics seems to be good for something, if not specifically boiling water. Flipping the sharper knife of the two so its handle faces Shino, Yamagi then turns to the rest of their groceries.]
Slaine, anything in particular you want for your potato stuffing?
no subject
[ He grins and takes the knife from Yamagi. He's spent so many hours peeling potatoes in the kitchen for discipline as a kid. He's an expert.
He goes and grabs their trash can and drags it to the dining table. He sets the knife on the tabletop before pulling the box of potatoes to his chair and sitting down, immediately getting to work. ]

[No really, cheese is the best. That said, he keeps to himself, watching curiously as the two interact with one another. They must have known each other for a long time, or at least that's the vibe he gets from the two.]
