Who: Juvia Lockser ([personal profile] lacuscular) & various
What: catch-all log for October!!
When: all month!
Where: around Olympia/her home, etc
Warning(s): none save for being sick!

volunteering
[ Despite being involved in the brunt of whatever detonated in the market district, Juvia still takes it upon herself to help those immediately around her. Even though her desire to find out who is directly responsible for this is strong, her need to be useful overpowers it.

While still semi functional, with no dire signs of sickness, she chooses to assist in disposal of anything contaminated. For the hour she is Alive catch her roaming around, offering to pick up slack for anyone slowing down or needing an extra hand. ]
sick leave
[ ―but it isn't long into helping with the recovery efforts that the symptoms hit her. It starts when her already clammy hands are suddenly, to be frank, clammier. Skin is paler than usual, and mouth suddenly dry. The crate of food she holds slips from her fingers and lands harshly on the floor. She thinks it's because she's not paying attention, which, is true. Juvia is still thinking about the confusion and fear that hit her during the attack.

But it's when she has to step aside because she simply can't pick up the crates anymore does she realize something is wrong. In a panic, she separates herself from the collection of people in the market district, taking off her hat only to place her hand up against her forehead. ]

Juvia.. Juvia can't tell the difference.

[ She mumbles, stopping once she's far enough by herself to check her own temperature. ]

( Juvia is not the first person he's tried to convince to take it easy, though she is the first friend that actually listened to him. despite the rejections he can't seem to stop making the suggestion, especially when he's had a first hand and a birdseye view of how VIOLET seems to progress.

she wanted to help and Peter of all people can understand that. still, when she's sick, letting herself rest is the best help she can give. to herself, and to Olympia at large.
)

I want to. ( she might even be doing him a favor, in the end — making him feel like he was actually managing to help someone, and forcing him to slow down at least a bit was good for him, too. the last time they had to travel together, it'd been her supporting him, but this time he can put an arm around her and be the steady one for a change. he heads for the standard housing, though not at a particularly rough pace, before he asks, ) How long have you been out here? ( pounding the pavement, looking to help or for answers, maybe both. )

( it reminds him of when they met, too. a reversal of positions, and a bit more like what Peter is accustomed to. it's impossible to forget that she'd saved him to start, though, and that she's far stronger than her diminutive size might have implied. he's doing this for more than just the fact he feels obligated, though — he likes Juvia, enough to worry, enough to want to know she's getting some rest. that's about all he can ask for right now, when the answers about VIOLET were still nowhere to be found.

he frowns at the nervous tilt to her expression, though he doesn't have to wonder if she's hiding something. Peter has to note about Juvia, she's always honest. incredibly honest, maybe even weirdly so. which could make him feel a bit guilty for what he can't tell her, if it weren't for the fact what she confessed was so distracting.
)

Wait — you weren't there, were you? ( Peter is both astonished and dismayed. if she knows she's been out since the explosion, Peter can surmise the answer to his own question. ) And you were still out here? Juvia, pushing yourself like this is just going to make this worse.

( the bad news is if Peter were sick, he'd totally be a complete hypocrite and run around trying to be helpful despite that fact. blah blah blah spider-man didn't get sick days blah blah. the good news, though, is he isn't sick. overtired, possibly, overworked, most definitely, but sick? not yet, at the very least.

for now it is his turn to look after her, and it's not a horrible change of pace. there's a reason being a superhero came to him so easily, Peter genuinely enjoys helping people and even if he feels as if he's never doing enough, that doesn't cancel out the fact he does feel a little less helpless when there's someone he can help. he's spent too much time on the sidelines, lately — he's ashamed of the "hero" he's become, and helping Juvia is really a small step toward redemption...

but it's worth it, because he likes her more than he'd be able to freely admit, and knowing that she'll be home resting will set his mind at ease.
)

Yeah, we are, ( he agrees, and while that does take some steam out of his lecture, he squeezes her to his side slightly. ) It's still dangerous. Just... do me a favor, okay? Take it easy, because we don't know enough about this yet to know when you're going to start getting better.

( wow they have so much in common... even stalking... how u think he found you Juvia its not because he was minding his own business and staying off of rooftops, that's for fucking sure!

well, luckily for Juvia, with his sweatshirt on, he can't really hope to feel the flush to her skin. it wouldn't have bothered him if he could, though. it isn't her fault she's sick, it'd be kind of cruel to hold it against her.

he's a bit of an enormous hypocrite when it comes to telling others to slow down when he has no intention of it, but in that dumb head of his Peter genuinely believes he can't slow down if it means others getting hurt. that speech about Responsibility stuck, stuck hard, clangs around in his head like a mantra. if he feels like he isn't doing enough, then he feels guilty for not living up to the ideal his uncle had expected of him. even if Ben would never have wanted him to drive himself into the ground for the sake of heroism, good luck convincing Peter of that.

he's not completely deaf to requests he rest, though. so he nods absently at the request he take a break.
) I'll make sure you're settled and go check on Cheryl. ( this is not actually a break, in a strict sense of the word, but it's pretty close, right? no? oh. okay. )

( juvia is like twelve right so listen here she's stealing traits from him! he's been a creepy stalker virgin weirdo for longer!!!!! she probably owes him royalties.

sadly, in his head, that is a break. he wouldn't be flinging himself across the skyline looking for trouble. he wouldn't be fixated on slides or samples at the Institute and he wouldn't be running back and forth trying to get people care at Sanctuary. checking in wasn't exactly resting, yet it was a rest for his mind, wasn't it? that had to count, at least a little...

even if it isn't the same as actually resting, stopping and catching his breath.

while scolding him would have worked, at least in the moment, it probably would have made him feel bad. so her alternate strategy works all too well. he can't rightly refuse that, can he? and since Peter is determined to see her resting, it makes sense to stick around a little while and make sure she is. it's an easy thing to agree to. he's played right into her tiny hands, all on accident.
) Okay, for a little while. I can make you tea this time. ...is it hard, to make tea?

[personal profile] webdesigned 2017-10-14 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
( okay lets do it but at best Juvia can only make about $12

anything in her kitchen, huh? well, that's harder, considering he can't cook so much as he accidentally scalds things and sometimes sets of smoke detectors. at least putting tea in water seems pretty harmless, actually cooking could probably benefit Juvia more, it's just he's not as confident in his ability to pull it off.

he frowns, because yeah it is probably a good idea for her to get hydrated, but if she can't even imagine drinking tea it probably says a lot about how warm she's feeling. he's probably not helping, considering the arm around her shoulders. Peter considers releasing her, it's just in the end he thinks the support might help her more than the potential added warmth.

they can't be that far, right? he hopes not.
) You've got a deal, but you only need to help me if I can't figure it out. I've got to learn my way around a kitchen at some point. ( he really just thinks when she's sick she's better off not in a kitchen... sorry, Juvia. )

this is the worst thing ive written in a long time

[personal profile] webdesigned 2017-10-14 07:54 am (UTC)(link)
( maybe, if she catches him on payday....... maybe..............

it is exciting, in a, "will my kitchen survive this?" sort of way. still, Peter is hoping he can find something easy to prepare, if only because it's probably better if he doesn't destroy her kitchen or possibly himself trying to help her. that would be about the opposite of helpful.
)

Okay, deal. If I need it you can shout orders from the sidelines. You can be my kitchen coach. ( he's being dumb, even Peter knows it, it just seems worth it to cheer her spirits a little. she's already sick, she doesn't need him to be serious and glum, too. pretending she isn't sick isn't a good idea, yet beating the idea into the ground doesn't seem helpful, either. he'll try to take her mind off it, even though that's easier said than done, when she's got a fever.

she needs to change. right. obviously. after he releases her, Peter laughs (nervously, at nothing) before beelining to the kitchen. perfectly executed social interaction, Parker, nice.
) I'll just... be...... in here. ( far away from the sick girl that needs to change. THAT'S NOT EVEN WEIRD, PETER, WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS. SHE'S SICK, STOP. at least it gives him the opportunity to poke around her kitchen in attempts of figuring out something to prepare. he does so determinedly, in fact. he's definitely not thinking about anything else at all. at all. )

[personal profile] webdesigned 2017-10-20 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
( at this point, if she asked why he was being so weird, Peter would definitely fall on the cross of being too tired for his own good over admitting sudden discomfort at the idea of a girl changing clothes. at least somewhere in that fluffy hair and bespectacled head, he knows he's being ridiculous... though knowing it isn't exactly the same as being able to act like a normal person, apparently.

at least her being dressed, even with less on, is less ruffling than the idea of her taking them off. he's scouted through her cupboards and appliances trying to find something easy to put together and ... well, he hasn't found anything, mostly because he's looked without seeing in his determination not to think about things he shouldn't. so he hasn't actually found anything, but Juvia doesn't need to know that.

he's a little red, but recovering, when she announces her return.
) Cool. Cool cool cool. ( realizing that does not sound very natural, Peter presses his hand to his mouth, as if he could just stop embarrassing things leaking out of it by force. when he tries again he's a bit more composed. ) So we're thinking cold, right? Have you ever had iced tea?

( oh yeah, he's hiding something, all right. it may even be accurate to say he's acting weirder than usual thanks to being overworked, too. it's just that he isn't actively trying to hide that part, Peter wouldn't know how to do that even if he tried.

turns out he is no better at trying to hide his embarrassment nor his annoyance at his own wandering imagination. what a coincidence.

he's put slightly on the spot by the inquiry about something interesting him in the kitchen. it's a red flag that Juvia is absolutely catching on to him acting bizarre, and yeah, what a shock that one is, am I right?
) Ah... no. All's fine in here, very kitchen-like. As far as my knowledge of kitchens go. My aunt did her best to keep me out of hers. ( it occurs to him that in all his 'looking' he does not remember seeing the tea, even though he probably (definitely) saw it. )

Er, where is your tea again? ( he wonders, sheepish, as he tries a cabinet at random and at the very least, does successfully find some glasses. he places them a little close to the edge of the counter, but shh. it'll be fine. he's lucky the kettle is already on the stove, all he has to do is heat the water up. )
webdesigned: (0055)

[personal profile] webdesigned 2017-10-28 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
( the saddest part of all this is that he'd probably say that again in a perfectly ideal situation.... . . . ... ....

it's a little shameful that the tea he has no memory of is in a cabinet he'd definitely already looked in.
) Right. I knew that. ( he didn't, that's a terrible save. he plucks open the cabinet to look at his choices. there's no Lipton to throw in some hot water, which is his American knowledge of iced tea, but he figures any black tea will taste pretty similar. so he takes what looks like black tea and puts that next to the glasses, making a bizarre little assembly line precariously perched on the edge of the counter.

aunt talk is kind of an unexpected segue but Peter will take it and cling to it like a life line to save him from himself.
) Sure. She cooked for both of us. Er, well, she cooked more when I was still in high school, but then she started working more at the diner, so we ordered in. ( it's too much information, maybe, but it's delivered a little more easily than... you know, everything other dumb thing he's said in the last ten minutes.

he laughs at the slightly worried inquiry.
) She let me in the kitchen, I was joking. She did kick me out once at Thanksgiving, but it was only because I kept trying to steal bites of the pie. ( the kettle is the easiest part of this whole operation, it turns out, since it's already settled on a burner. even Peter Parker manages to turn it on without much issue. )

School? Uh, no, not really. Second in my class, as the first in my class was determined to remind everyone. ( Peter's expression changes just referencing Gwen, though luckily he can hide the shift in his expression as he tries to locate some ice in the freezer. he's lucky there is some, or this iced tea was going to end up being simply lukewarm.

the problem with him sticking his head in a freezer and Juvia appearing so suddenly that even she is shocked by her sudden appearance, there is no spider senses warning him about her tiny form in his way as he turns to set his next prize on the counter. the warning he gets is hilariously late, and doesn't stop him from running straight into her. considering his height advantage, it's more than enough to knock the poor thing over and send the bag of ice skittering toward the glasses like he's going eskimo bowling, because Peter Parker is deadly and this is why nobody should get close to him.

Juvia makes it out of the fall far better than the girl Peter was just musing about, though. he definitely doesn't move fast enough to keep her from the panic of sudden weightlessness, though there's never an impact with the hard floor. he manages to catch her before she can get that far, following instincts that often feel like a rollercoaster he can't control. maybe he could have played it off as impressive reflexes if it weren't for the glass slowly and precariously rolling off the counter thanks to the ice that had knocked it over. it never hits the ground, either, after a quiet thwipfrom his webshooter sends it flying to his hand instead.

Peter stares at the whole situation just as Juvia had been a second ago, alarmed by how catastrophically he's messed up — because seriously, why did he just do that?. if he could come up with an excuse of great reflexes for the catch (hard to believe at best), there's no believable excuse for webshooters attached to his wrists. the moment is hilariously precarious, even more than the cups on the countertop had been, and resembles the same amount of delicacy; how exactly to move forward without something ending up horribly broken?

without warning he straightens, pulling them both into standing straight again. Peter looks a bit like a caged animal that is looking for the nearest possible exit, probably because he is.
) Sorry. I'm sorry. I... I.... I should go. ( because if he just doesn't bring it up there's nothing to talk about, right? despite the disclaimer, he hasn't let her go. he hasn't let the glass go, either. there's still a little remnant of web left behind like a giant red flag that won't be forgotten. )

( it's a very good point. he said he was going, or at least that he should, yet Peter has made no progress on actually doing it. he's stuck to the floor, battling with the need to flee and the panic of it already being too late to run. it's hard to explain what is exactly so terrifying about showing his hand, in a world where there are so many people like him. Juvia included. it's not something he's ready to explain, either; it was supposed to be a secret, it had to be a secret, and now...

Juvia is looking up at him but he can't quite manage to look her in the eye, head hanging and shoulders a miserable line. he wishes she knew how dangerous it was to ask him to stay. she'd have been better off letting him go. the fact that neither of them really want him to leave makes it harder to actually go through with it, even if that's what he should do.

it's safer. safer for her, and maybe safer for him, too.

he did say he'd stay, though he's not expecting the words to be thrown back at him after all... that.
) Your kitchen might not make it if I do, ( he mutters, a half hearted joke that is at least moderately better than the panic he still can't quite shake, but Peter doesn't seemed to have shaken Juvia, either. not, exactly, that he's tried. )
