[ JJ's not sure if he's being a good samaritan as much as he is totally confused. He has no idea what people are meant to do in these types of situations—help others, probably? He just doesn't want to be That Guy that ran off while everyone else was lending hand. Granted, he's not exactly equipped with the skills to help out in a crisis, and he doesn't have much going for him other than his physical strength and health.

He grunts when Matt helps him up, and he's glad to see someone friendly, but Matt doesn't look much better off with the way that he's stumbling around. ]

That lady punched me.

[ Though that lady is long gone now, but JJ just feels the need to mention this.

Moreover, Matt looks... weird. ]

Who are you?

[ Why is he dressed up... Well, maybe that's not important right now, but JJ's too disoriented to prioritize properly. ]

People do all sorts of things in shock. [Says the weirdo in a mask, by way of explanation, and probably doesn't do anything more to clear up... anything about him. Still, he take a few seconds to collect himself, still instinctively hanging onto JJ -- partially as a protective measure, partially to steady himself, breathing heavily and trying to block out all the sounds and smells and---]

It doesn't matter who I am. What matters is that we leave. Now.

[He's trying to sound firm but he's too disoriented to pull it off]

[ JJ doesn't know anything about going into shock, on account of him being normal and having had a normal life before all of this "other dimension" nonsense started to happen, so he has no choice but to take Matt's word for it. He also—has no idea what's going on. It feels like chaos around them, and he doesn't know what train of thought to pursue or how to even organize his thoughts and emotions.

Matt doesn't look like he's particularly doing well either, but he speaks with authority, and his costume is making JJ uncomfortable. ]

Of course it matters.

[ He steps back, but he also doesn't let Matt fall away from him. ]

Something— there was an attack. How do I know you're not a criminal?

Because I'm here to help you --- and anyone else who's been affected -- get to safety.

[Yeah, it's not very reassuring. He sounds confident enough when he says it, but that doesn't really mean anything, especially since he's dressed up in all black like a weirdo.]

I'm not asking you to trust me. [Except that he kinda is] But this place is dangerous, and you need help. You can't stay here, you'll get hurt.

[Again!!]

[ JJ squints at Matt for another beat, eyes narrowed and focused on the caped crusader. Eventually he relents; it's not his nature to be particularly suspicious, even after an attack like this.

Besides, it's hard for him to be suspicious of Matt when the other man seems so unsteady on his feet. ]

I'll be okay. [ No, he won't, but hindsight is 20/20. ] I'll help you out of here... Are you okay?

[ghettobatman]

[If only he knew.]

I'm fine. [He really isn't, but he is incredibly stubborn, so he'll continue to truck on regardless.] Focus on yourself. There could be other effects from the explosions - or others who may not be acting rationally.

[He'll try to start guiding J.J away now, with a hand on his back]
