( yeah, what is going on is way past cool. this reminds him a little too much of Connors and his bid to turn all of New York into lizards, but at least that had been on some misguided attempt to make people better, not worse. this? this was just to hurt people, and it leaves a stony fist in his gut.

his roommate is one of the sick ones, and that's probably the only reason he's at home when Kate knocks. he answers the door looking like he hasn't slept in a few days, and to be honest maybe he hasn't. don't ask.
)

A sidekick, huh? ( the huff of breath was supposed to be a laugh, it just didn't really work out. but... okay. trying to scrounge up information on what was going on? that was worth agreeing too, especially because work at the Institute was so far going nowhere. he pauses to scribble a note near the door, if Cheryl can even read his handwriting it declares he's going out to get food. and he will get some food, on the way back.

until then, he heads out the door and falls into step next to Kate.
) Where are we headed? Do you have an idea of anyone that might know something?

You totally just called me easy, you know that, right? ( that's funny, too, he just wishes he had the heart to be amused by it. his dumb jokes are even emptier and lacking than usual. maybe he should play it a little more coy next time, but while Kate may not know him that well yet, she will be quick to learn that Peter Parker is always delighted to skip into danger. with the excuse of photographing it, of course, that is the only reason!

he'd maybe explain — that he's pretty desperate to feel like he's doing anything to help. that has sort of translated into trying to do everything, even some eavesdropping with someone that has explained she's a Hawkeye, even though Peter barely knows what that means (well, Kate had told him, but they'd both been a few free drinks in at the time). nothing seems to be working, and at this rate he'll try just about anything, if it seems like it might help. but she doesn't push and that means he doesn't have to answer!
)

Royal Guard? ( hmm. he doesn't know too much about them, if he's honest — Peter has an in with the Institute, but nothing outside of it. still, Kate is totally right that they're some oldworldy law enforcement. they'd probably have a bead on criminal activity, if anyone would. ) Okay, makes sense. Are we going to hit up a guard tower, tail some on patrol, or try and get in the big building itself?

[ His feet pace fast, kicking up loose dirt as the chase leads him through convoluted back alleys where gravel hadn't extended. His heart beats to a matching speed, but it doesn't tire him. This is what he should have been doing, making use of himself, finding something to fight, even if it still remains to be seen what he's fighting. All he knows if that he'd seen the "M" on that wrist, which simply meant trouble.

The man is fast, even so much that Derek can only maintain an even distance without transforming. But he's too focused to convince his mind to make the shift; with the constant exasperating turns at corners, it's enough that he has to keep track of this man's trail.

But with a forceful push, the man breaks open the door to an old warehouse, disappearing into the darkness within. Stupid move, Derek thinks. Clearly a dead end. But then another figure slips out from a different path, a wave of blond hair flowing behind her as she follows suit inside the building. An accomplice? No, the scent, it's almost familiar, it's —

Derek moves inside, immediately taking note of numerous stacks of crates scattered through the warehouse, most tall enough to warrant plenty of hiding spaces. There's no visual of the man, assuming he'd taken advantage of the environment to conceal himself, but Derek sees the woman, the blond hair bright even in the darkness, and he grips roughly at her shoulder, turning her body as he pushes her back against a stack of crates.

His eyes widen slightly before they narrow, a breath escaping him as he identifies her. ]

[ the man she's chasing is somehow responsible or at least involved with those responsible for making so many sick and kara is angry, but she knows better than to let her anger get the better of her when it comes to the heroing business. it makes things messy, it makes her sloppy, and maybe, maybe there's a good reason. maybe she can talk to these people, find out why they did it, convince them to stop and to start handing out the cure because surely, there is one.

she doesn't expect anyone else to follow the same man. she doesn't expect it to be derek, moving faster than he should be able to. the man she's been chasing isn't human, she's pretty sure of that, but if derek can keep up with him, what does that mean?

and then derek's turning her and pushing her against a stack of crates and he shouldn't have been able to do that, either. kara has to remind herself not to move, not to push back too hard. derek isn't her enemy, not at all. (he's something else entirely.) ]

Hi. [ she lets out after a moment, unsure what else to say. she's wearing her supergirl outfit, so that secret is definitely out — though he probably has no idea what she's wearing, who supergirl is. ]

If you're here for him, too, we shouldn't stand around.
