❪ event ❫ THE DESCENT: PART ONE.
THE PROLOGUE
Your sleep on the night of the 15th is not a restful one, unfortunately. It’s unclear whether you are in a state of half-wakefulness, or dreaming. The voices you hear certainly sound very real.
What is it, Sael? —Is everyone asleep?! Every one, yes. Sael, it appears you do not have good news to deliver...? N-No! I don’t know how it slipped past us, but there’s something powerful coming this way. Something hostile. I can barely keep the core systems online! ... I don't know what to do... I see... and we cannot protect Thesa and Alria in addition to transferring the Refugees to Olympia. This force, they waited for this moment. They knew I have been Intervening, and that I have become weak from such Interventions— ... We've been had. It cannot be helped. To save the Refugees on the Stations, we must eject the awoken unto El Nysa. My remaining energy shall go into shielding Thesa— left defenseless, every being we have saved on this station will perish... Sael, where is the ideal location for the landing? Hmm. There aren’t any people within a ten mile radius of The Outlook, and there shouldn’t be any for a few more days. I think that’s the best location right now. Very well. Instruct Zasere and Roman to begin preparations for an emergency eject. This is the only way we can save everyone. I am counting on you to ward off the enemy on the space front. The rest... is up to our Refugees. The alarms are blaring. It shouts against your eardrums, calling you to wake again. This time, you are in new pod, strapped down completely and cushioned tightly against the walls. In truth, you had no idea when you’d gone to sleep, but it is reminiscent of when you had been saved from the force of the Storm. A voice greets you when you come to, while the conversation between Darma and Sael is still fresh on your mind. Despite their voices playing like an old tune in your memory, you still know it is something that happened. Something has gone terribly wrong. You hear Darma speak, her voice loud in your head. Fellow Refugee, I wake you with regrettable news. A force equal to our own is attempting to engage Thesa, no doubt to steal the souls contained here. My energy is near depleted with this last Intervention, so I cannot send you to the grounds safely as originally intended. However, there is hope yet. This power shall instead shield Thesa and Alria — and believe in me when I swear no one shall be hurt. Your loved ones are safe with us. THE DESCENT ![]()
Meanwhile, in the distant kingdom of Olympia, the Empress and her loyal subject discuss matters late into the night... I’ll have the results of that dragon toxin study ready for you soon, Your Highness. I just need a few helpers to— oh wow, is that a meteor shower? Oh yes, it appears so. How beautiful.. hehe. Let us thank Thesa for this blessing. GATHER YOUR BEARINGS
All in all, the descent lasts for nearly seven hours. After the deployment of the last wave of refugees, it’s only natural that you may be feeling pretty worn out.
A. Within the remains of the pods, Refugees will find basic camping supplies such as small tents, sleeping bags, and compasses. Not all of the supplies remain intact, thanks to the impact of the crash. But, sharing resources will ensure there is enough for everyone to rest for the night. Can you really in good conscience leave that stranger next to you without shelter? FINAL OOC NOTE
This INTRO event will be broken up into three parts! Please keep this in mind when plotting your threads/tag load. PART 2 will be posted on JULY 18TH and PART 3 on JULY 22ND, at 6 PM EST. In the event of CAPTCHA, we will be providing an overflow. In the event of a second CAPTCHA, players are advised to move threads to an overflow post on their character journals. These threads remain eligible for AC,
AC Rewards, and REP.
The NETWORK is currently down, as Sael must concentrate all of his efforts on warding off the invading force. Characters may still message each other's personal IC inboxes. Submit two (2) AC-eligible threads from this log for one (1) Natha Orbiter REP point here by JULY 31ST. Recommended Listening: Alex & TOKYO Rose

You're the one who implied that you wanted to be set down. I'm sorry to say that signals are very mixed, at the moment.
[But, yes, he would just leave her there, but at the same time, Ardyn is also carrying her along with him right now, even though they've briefly stopped -- a man of puzzling paradoxes, this one.]
And what manner of gentle persuasion would you suggest?
no subject
( Nuance, she'd call it. She is serious about the way he's carrying her, though. It's neither the safest way to convey someone, nor is it the most appealing for the one being borne. Not seeing your rescuer's face could be, in some cases, unnerving when you already wake up confused. )
Reassurance that you're watching over them. If they're panicked and need to be calmed, a calm voice and positive repetition can go a long way in convincing them to let you help.
no subject
[Comes the exclamation, a faux crying foul at how he's chosen to handle her. But none of this is sincere, considering the way that he begins to bend down, shifting her just enough to place her on her feet, a hand still on her forearm to keep her steady. He isn't exactly gentle, but he's not careless about it, either.]
Then let's try this... [For the first time, now, she should be able to get a good look at his face. It is indeed twisted with a smile that seems supercilious, but at least he's being gracious enough to continue "helping".]
Don't worry, everything will be all right. I'm to carry you to relative safety, so it would be beneficial for you to not struggle against my aid. [A brow lift.] Oh, and how should I carry you, then?
[And if Ardyn already knows how to take care of an injured person, the information rattling around in his head from long, long past, he won't say as much. He doesn't care enough, but he'll humor someone else by doing if it need be.]
no subject
( The bit of support is welcome, as the sudden rush from her head leaves her verging on dizzy, with her wings shivering slightly with a quick metallic chime just in case. Once some equilibrium has been achieved she looks up at him, bright blue eyes quick to take in the expression his features are presenting.
He's entertaining her, at least. So why not tell him? Maybe, she thinks, he'll even be a bit more careful next time, if he remembers this encounter as a pleasant experience. )
There you are. Your heartfelt words do much to relieve my fears and doubts, kind stranger! ( A small smirk, here, and she's definitely becoming more lucid. )
Piggy back for unconscious. Distributing the weight would be better for your shoulder as well. You could also try carrying them like one would cradle a child, but, for a woman like me, the former is what I would recommend.
Now that I am conscious, I could use you like a crutch.
no subject
It seems that's all unnecessary, though, and Ardyn takes in what she says with what looks to be an airy, barely-there consideration.]
I'm so glad to have offered you comfort in your time of need, dear stranger. [He returns the title in return.]
Now then, if you must lean on me, then I'll not cry foul against it. You are, apparently, the doctor, not I.
[A doctor with a strange suit and wings, but a doctor nonetheless?]
no subject
Of course, she is a doctor. As her recuperation continues along she is more capable of doing her job. ) My name is Dr Angela Ziegler. Or Mercy, out here on the field.
( She looks up at him, tilts her head, and smiles. ) And what about you? Have you sustained any injury to your person? I can get you patched up in a a couple of moments whatever it may be.
no subject
A pleasure, Dr. Zeigler. My name is Ardyn Izunia; I had once carried the title of Chancellor Izunia, but no such thing applies any longer.
[He doesn't say why, but one can assume it's merely because his world is gone, and therefore so is any manner of political clout.]
Don't worry about me. [He waves a hand, dismissively.] Fit as a proverbial fiddle. Tell me, are all doctors to be called by a different name while in the field where you're from?
no subject
Likewise, Mr Izunia with the fancy title. You must have impressed someone, once.
Worrying is a part of the job description, unfortunately. ( He doesn't ask about the costume, which is something she's had to explain several times before. It's nice not to have to do it again. ) Depends on who they work for. I was once an agent for a peacekeeping organisation. Things may have changed, but my aims have not.
no subject
I'd like to think I impressed at least a handful of individuals, during my stay in Niflheim. Though some tell me that I like the sound of my own voice too much for my own good; do you get that impression, Doctor? I would hope not.
[It's true he hasn't asked about her suit, because Ardyn figures that it isn't the strangest he'll see ever since he's departed Eos. He figures he can ask about the wings later, for their construction and design does interest him, but maybe not when they're both slowly making their way to camp.]
Your aims being to help others, no matter the circumstance?
no subject
Hmm. Well. You didn't tell me exactly how you impressed them, so I wouldn't say you're too bad. Gloating is awfully unattractive.
( For a few moments she just walks in silence, her head down and maybe her weight leaned a little more heavily into him, though he might have noticed before that her step was becoming stronger and surer the more distance they travel. Meanwhile she keeps putting one foot in front of the other. )
Yes. ( A candid answer now. She looks up at him again for a moment, searching for his eyes if she has to behind that shaggy hair. ) Even if I wonder why I bother sometimes. If someone is harmed, I'll help them to the best of my ability. Someone has to.
no subject
The stifled chuckle does not run past his notice, though he's not quite sure what it's directed at.]
Well, I thank you for the compliment of not being "too bad".
[Ardyn does realize that her walking is becoming less strained, and she's able to keep pace with him better and better. The camp is not far at this rate, able to be seen just over the hill they're clambering up.]
Because you're a bleeding heart. [Blunt, maybe, if not for how airy he sounds about it.] I can only assume, with a name like Mercy.
no subject
Now, if you'd asked for a compliment, that would be a bit much as well. Well-played, I believe they call that.
( She seems amused at that, and she remains so until they are atop of the hill, where she takes her weight from him and gives him a long, searching look. For some reason there's a part of her that doesn't believe what she thinks is his façade--the flippancy and the tempering amusement do make sense, and yet she does doubt them, thinking that there are signs of immense suffering in his past.
A warrior of some type, perhaps? A soldier? A politician who cared too much? She has has seen sorrow so often, seen suffering so much, that it's not hard of her to recognise even the most well-concealed things. In a way, she's now speaking to what she senses in him. ) People do a lot of bleeding. For good causes, for bad causes, certainly for plenty of causes that are not their own. There has to be someone to do something about it.
( A pause, and her face is softened by a smile. ) But thank you very much for your help, Mr Izunia. It means a lot to me to.
no subject
Well, that's a fair point. [Ardyn looks at her, choosing not to comment on the how and why people bleed; he's more than familiar. Instead, he makes a conscious effort to latch onto the latter half of her statement.] Though one must always accept that sometimes, there's simply nothing to be done. As much as one might try.
But that's rather fatalistic of me, isn't it? [He motions vaguely in her direction.] You seem to have little trouble walking now.
no subject
( Trying to--not save the world, exactly. Only people. She was once part of an organisation that tried to save the world from itself, and now she knows that that's a fool's errand. The best you can really hope to do is staunch some bleeding, prevent barbaric diseases, try to instill a bit of your hope in others. This is how she tries to make a better world. As for the walking: )
The wonders of modern medicine, no? ( She places one of her hands on her forearms, indicating the suit she's wearing. ) A little help from my very own research! It helps keep me in peak perfomance, given a bit of time, like all good things.
no subject
What makes you think that I'm not trying?
[They can get back to the wonders of modern medicine later.]
no subject
She tilts her head, and puts one hand to her mouth. ) I didn't say that you did, Mr Izunia. Certainly, you did help me! But, if you have stopped, or ever do want to stop, I think that you shouldn't. Second chances, and all that.
no subject
I see. You're quite the optimist. But I have the feeling people may have already told you that in the past.
[She seems like the sort who would have people accuse her of such. And while Ardyn could go on about second chances, and how much he isn't at all inclined to be quite as selfless at her, he instead only offers her amicable grin, coupled with a look of concession.
Back to her suit, then. He gestures at the wings.]
Your suit, by the way... Are the wings an aesthetic choice only?
no subject
( Which is true; and he's also not wrong. She won't say that he is. There really is no making everyone happy, because everyone has their preferred way of looking at the world.
She doesn't know his yet, but she's thinking she might have a few clues by now.
As for her suit, she looks over her shoulder, gives the camp a glance, and then she faces him once again. ) Oh no, they are really a practical one as well. What better mobility is there, then that offered by flight? ( With a slight pneumatic sigh and a quiet shivering chime they extent, and the golden tips glow. ) They allow me to directly aid allies on the battlefield.
no subject
So instead, he looks interested at the chime, the glow, and the design of the wings -- of her suit in general. Idly, he muses that the Niflheim scientists would have had a field day figuring out just how it worked, picking it apart, piece by piece. Integrating the technology, somehow, into their soulless MT army.
What he actually says is far more innocuous.]
You can fly? Not only can you aid allies on the battlefield more swiftly, but you can also have a bit of fun, too, whenever you like.
[Said as if... he doesn't know what it might already be like to fly through the air. he's just a patronizing bastard i'm sorry]
no subject
And perhaps you could, too, if you asked me nicely.
( She gives him a perfectly sweet smile. )
Even you must want to have a bit of fun from time to time, surely.
no subject
[He clicks his tongue at her, shaking his head.]
I'm a man who finds amusement in all manner of things. Your censure of my character is a harsh one, Doctor.
no subject
( Smiling, again, she's bows her head in a mock of contrition. )
Surely a friendly challenge is better than mindless or lukewarm praise, Mr Izunia. Isn't it slightly more interesting than me being on my knees thanking you?
no subject
Oh, I don't know. I think I can appreciate both in equal measure.
[He chuckles again.]
And please, call me Ardyn.
no subject
In any case she brightens again and gives him a smile, before gallantly struggling through the trips her accent is trying to throw her way. ) As you will, Ardyn. And, when you need a doctor, please don't heisate to ask for Dr Ziegler. I'm sure we will be seeing each other again.
no subject
[He inclines his head, and it's almost a half-bow, the way he does it with such a flourish. What a dramatic, theatrical man.
But when he straightens, he motions out towards the camp.]
You'll be able to walk there on your own just fine, then?
