[That... doesn't make a whole lot of sense. But, luckily (?), Yona keeps babbling, so he might actually get something of an explanation.]
Like you said, my mind is playing tricks on me... so this you can't take me there if I don't know where it is.
no subject
[This is...well it hurts to watch someone delirious and out of their mind.]
I know where the flower shop is. We'll go when you're better. I promise.
no subject
[She loosens one arm from around the bouquet and holds it out to him, curling all of her fingers except her pinkie.]
Say that again. Say you promise.
no subject
I promise. Pinkie promise.
no subject
...this is real, right...?
[She bites her lip.]
When I get better, you'll remember our promise?
no subject
[Finding his composure he gives her pinkie a squeeze before sliding down onto one knee in a practiced gesture, free hand over his heart. He may not be Asseylum, who he swore to give his life to, but she's important. There's just something about her that commands respect. Something in her eyes that even now, with her gaze glazed over from sickness, burns and demands to be obeyed.
And if it's an order from her, even a silent one, he feels inclined to obey it.]
I swear to you, I would never forget a promise made to you, Lady Yona.
no subject
...literally.
Yona can't quite find her voice at first, and she's not sure if that's just because she's already somewhat compromised by the illness, or if the promise Slaine has made really means that much to her.
Either way, she slides off the side of the mattress to come to her knees in front of where he's kneeling, then throws her arms around him. ...hope you have a good immune system, buddy.]
Thank— thank you...
no subject
[Before he can stop her Yona's on the floor in front of him, flowers left on the mattress as tears well up in her eyes. He's startled by the sudden arms around his neck, hands finding her back as he holds her in an awkward embrace. She's crying...and thanking him...but why? He hadn't done anything remarkable. Had his words really meant so much to her?
Then again she was ill. Emotions run hot when sickness takes the wheel, after all.]
You're welcome...
no subject
...sorry.
[She should probably let go of him. On some level, Yona knows that - it's not fair for her to be latching on to him like this, when she's sick and he's worried and he probably has things to do after coming to see her that don't involve getting cried on.
After all, now that she's staying here, he has more time to rest. In theory.
But, still...]
You've been so nice to me from the start... and you keep coming to see me even though I'm not very good company right now.
no subject
[As conflicted as Yona might feel, Slaine is the opposite. He's touched at her words and the way she clings to him for what he can only assume is the need for comfort. Timidly he rubs at her back, not daring to move her as she makes his shoulder damp.]
Even if you're not in the best of spirits right now...I'm glad to have your company.
no subject
(He wouldn't, but she doesn't know that.)]
...I'm glad we're friends.
no subject
[And he means that. She can't possibly realize just how glad he is.]
no subject
[She still doesn't raise her head, and her arms around him tighten just the slightest bit - like she's afraid that the question she's about to ask is going to send him running.]
Is it okay for you to keep coming to see me like this...? When do you find the time to rest?
no subject
[Is the automatic response, but her question gets him good as he pauses for a moment, letting her cling, his fingers absently tracing a path down her spine.]
Usually at night.
[For a few hours that is, if he can shut his mind off.]
no subject
[That doesn't sound quite right.]
For how long?
no subject
[Let him live, Yona.]
no subject
[Slaine can live once he takes her to the flower shop.]
no subject
[Which isn't a lie.]
So yes, it is enough.
no subject
[If so, he's amazing. Even when she's healthy, Yona needs a decent amount of sleep.]
no subject
[More like exhausted, but y'know.]
I'll make sure I get more sleep tonight.
no subject
But, still. He can say he's going to get more sleep tonight, but it's not like she'll have any way of knowing that, stuck in here as she is. Not unless-]
Will you sleep with me tonight?
[uhhh, phrasing, yona]
no subject
He can't even fathom the thought.]
I don't think the nurses will allow that, Lady Yona.
no subject
[Her lips start to curve down into a pout, and she finally raises her head from his shoulder so that he can see it.]
If you're not taking up space that could be for another patient, isn't it fine?
no subject
There's no way. He can't. He can't.]
I'm afraid not.
[As much as he'd like to say yes (which he realizes suddenly, with a muted sense of horror) it's inappropriate, for a number of reasons.]
They won't see it that way.
no subject
[Medicinal sleepovers are apparently a thing now, or at least they are when Yona is trying to get her way. She puffs her cheeks out and reaches out to try and grab the front of his shirt, as if that's supposed to convince him.]
It will help, so they can't be mad.
