Get to know Slaine a bit more.]
Let's go inside. We'll talk there.
no subject
[Slaine can get not wanting to talk out in the open.]
Lead the way.
no subject
How many radios have you built before?
[Whoa...making smalltalk....just solidifying his decision aight.]
no subject
I built a few over the years for fun when I was younger. My father also had me practice fixing the telecommunication systems for manned rockets.
no subject
Sounds like it was more than just a hobby...
[Keith's hardly one to pry, but that's Interesting and these circumstances are a bit different from the norm.
Furthermore, must've been nice to have a dad..............]
no subject
I guess they were more like science projects. I never went to school so I had a more hands on approach to my education sometimes.
no subject
But you still ended up guarding a princess?
[Not skeptical; purely curious.]
no subject
[One he's not sure Keith wants to hear, at that.]
My father put me in a rocket when I was eleven. The on-board computer malfunctioned and the rocket crashed into her palace on Mars. She rescued me and the two of us became friends...I was only allowed to be around her thanks to the respect my father garnered from the nobility of Mars for his research. I was never a trained guard - I took it upon myself to protect her when both planets turned their back on her.
no subject
And that's not at all how he expected that story to turn. He'll glance over a shoulder at him -- so his legacy's been built on a coincidence thus far?]
Why did your dad -- what?
[How does one ask a specific thing about something when there's so many things to ask about that one something?]
Why did he do that? Did you know what you were doing in there?
[More about the rocket, less about the weird love story.]
no subject
[Because that's how Slaine's papa showed his love. Dr. Troyard did love his son, he just wasn't the best at making that apparent. Sending Slaine blasting off to Mars on his own was his way to ensure he was safe...ironic considering how dangerous space flight was in the first place. But that was the risk his father had been willing to take. It's telling, then, that hurdling through space in a rocket was safer than being on Earth.]
I only knew the basics, but there wasn't much I could do when the on-board computer malfunctioned.
no subject
Nothing really, anyway. It's a tricky thing to comment on, so he doesn't. Instead, he'll focus on the fact that Slaine managed to live through it all, seemingly unscathed.]
Sure you're not minimizing what you can do?
[A question that doesn't have much to do with benefiting himself. He's just trying to set up a radio, after all.]
no subject
I'm not sure what you mean...
no subject
[He'll prove his point once they actually get to work -- Slaine'll prove it himself.
...Hopefully.]
Why do you have a black eye anyway?
[AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.....Keith is objectively the worst aniki.]
no subject
Oh...I got caught in the middle of an altercation.
[Which is the polite way of saying he got dragged into helping to attempt capture a shady suspect...but got punched instead.]
no subject
Did you get them back?
[You know, the next most important question after are you okay and Slaine is visibly fine.]
no subject
[Wait what? Oh, he means hit them back. Haha...no.]
Oh, no. They ran away before there was a chance to do anything.
no subject
[The good news is that Keith's finally starting to piece together a bit of a story to attach to Slaine's face. The bad news is that it's depressing. They can't both be depressing????
More good news: they've more or less arrived. Keith doesn't announce it or anything, he just starts up to their door, assuming Slaine will follow.]
My roommates might be home.
[It's neither a good or bad thing, it's just a fact.]
no subject
Slaine's been conditioned enough to follow another's lead that it's second nature to trail after Keith, in through the door.]
Oh, okay. Are they nice?
no subject
Door's opened; he'll hang by it, waiting for Slaine to head in first. This part might be tricky...go inside..go go...scoot...]
They're fine.
[Just a warning, though he's probably got a roomie situation of his own and was already anticipating something similar here. Lance is most likely working, Allura's not got her own things going on. Girls.]
no subject
[Sounds like a match made in heaven.
He hurries himself inside, making sure to keep quiet as he does so. Keith's answer is pretty curt and so Slaine decides to not press any further. He's only here to help Keith with his radio set up, nothing more, nothing less. Speaking of radio...
He glances over to Keith, making sure his voice is low.]
Where do you have it set up?
no subject
[So far so good; it's quiet, so the place is probably vacant. His shared room with Lance is just down the hallway; there's some hesitation in heading inside just on principle of it being a SHARED room; they're both equally clean, but still.
There's always a chance of wayward undies lying somewhere, lost and forgotten. He pops the door open, there's an initial glance from side to side then he's motioning for Slaine to head in.
The mess of batteries and wires are spread out on his desk.]
no subject
I'm assuming this is it?
[It's...going to need some work.]
no subject
Yeah, that's it.
[Without a beat, like it's something to be moderately proud of. He was able to identify it without a ton of guidance....]
What do you think?
no subject
I think you've something I can work with. To build a simple radio, at least.
[Sorry buddy you're not gonna get to listen to any aliens on this.]
no subject
Yeah, that's the idea.
[With hands on his hips. Hopefully Slaine wasn't being generous in saying that, it'd break his alien heart.]
What do we need?
