[He words it like an offer, but he's already taking a seat at a chair near her bed.]

_{[It's a mix of everything that flashes through Mephisto's mind, in all honesty. At the request Slaine finds himself sitting back down in the chair he'd taken originally. Where to start...and just how much should he tell?]}

I'm afraid I'm not very interesting. My father was a well respected researcher and his research had the two of us traveling all the time. His research caught the eye of those with power and influence and after his passing I served them in his place.

Well now, it's rather strange to preface such an interesting story with a lie.

[Said with a goodnatured laugh. He wasn't expecting to get this kid's life story, but just what sort of world does he come from where such a thing wouldn't be interesting?? Humans were so cute, getting all worried about the strangest things...]

What sort of research did you father specialize in? Ah, if you don't mind me prying, that is.

_{[Slaine doesn't want to be interesting. He wants to be normal and live a normal life.]}

Fascinating! I can't say I've ever heard of anything like that... ah, could it be-- are you from the colonies, then?

[He's still playing up that he's a native here -- that's what they tend to assume, right? That the more interesting and bizarre folks from different worlds are just foreigners from distant colonies that might not even exist.]

I've heard interesting people are always flocking into Olympia from far and distant lands. Just what is it that brought you to Olympia?

Well, you've certainly chosen a good place for one! At least in my experience, that is. I came here for rather similar reasons, you could say.
