What: Rhys's infection reaches stage 2
When: mid-Oct
Where: various
Warning(s): Attempts to remove cybernetics
[ All things considered Rhys think he's been handling being sick rather well. Sure he might have worn Jyn's patience a little with his constantly asking for things (tissue, coffee, dinner, lunch, breakfast, snacks, fluffing his pillows...the usual) but he's spent the majority of his time in a lump on the couch not doing a whole lot. He hasn't been taxing himself outside of the Bunkers & Badasses game, and though the event leaves him utterly exhausted and coughing up a storm later he relents and spends the next day sleeping for the most part. he wakes feeling...not much better honestly, but surely the worst of it is almost over. It's been a week now. Any day he'll start feeling like himself and he'll be on the mend.
Then the static starts. At first it's just small instances of white noise in the back of his head. It disappears when he pops his ears or rubs at his temple, comes and goes. Then it makes him feel lightheaded and awful. There's a churning in his stomach and he sits down to rub his temples when the beginnings of a headache start to take hold. Rhys pops a painkiller and goes to bed in the hopes that he'll stave it off entirely and when he wakes up things will be back to normal.
They aren't. ]
A: Who are you again?
[ When Rhys wakes up he's beyond disoriented. He feels faint and dizzy, he hurts all over and he can't remember how he got on couch. Did he fall asleep there? Why does he feel so awful? He's going to be late for work--
That he should in no way whatsoever be going anywhere let alone to work fails to occur to Rhys as he stumbles back to his room to try and get ready, and he gets most of the way there. His hair isn't styled perfectly and his dress shirt isn't tucked in, but Rhys drags himself out of the apartment anyway and begins to stumble his way into town.
Like a responsible, totally-not-sick-and-delirious adult. ]
B: Jack's Back, Baby
[ People find him, they take him home, and Rhys gets put back in bed in thankfully short order. He conks out almost immediately but wakes only a few hours later when suddenly, inexplicably, Rhys jolts awake. He has no idea why he startles the way he does but his ECHO eye lights up and out of reflex he activates the palm like on his arm despite the fact that it's only midday. Something woke him...right? He's awake because there was...there was...?
There's nothing. Just an empty room and a lot of dirty clothes on the floor. He really needs
"--to straighten up the place, huh cupcake? There's letting yourself go and then there's just being lazy Rhys. Three-day-old underwear on the nightstand? Seriously?"
Rhys freezes for the split-second it takes for shock to set in and have him flailing out of bed, arms windmilling when his legs get tangled in the bed sheets and he lands with a loud whump! on the floor. Sharp, cruelly delighted laughter reaches his ears even before he lifts his head to stare wide-eyed in disbelief at the flickering blue image of an all-too-familiar AI standing before him. Colour drains from his face as he opens his mouth, but sound fails to come out.
Jack cuts him off a second later.
"If you're looking to catch a bunch of flies there are easier ways than with that face. What's the matter cupcake? Surprise to see your ol' pal Jack again?"
He crosses his arms over his chest and smirks with obvious pleasure at Rhys's distress. He shakes his head at the vision--this can't be real, this has to be a mistake. The spiders. He'd heard Jack's voice when they were nearby, there must be spiders--
"Seriously? You think a bunch of bugs are responsible for this?" ]
Th...this is impossible. You're not here. Y...you can't be, I...
[ "You what? Murdered me?" Jack's grin only widens. "You think getting rid of me is that easy? You think I didn't know you'd turn on me Rhysie?" ]
This isn't real.
[ "Oh, but it is Rhys. And this time? I'm here to stay."
One hour later and Rhys is stumbling into the streets of the housing distracting, dishevelled and a stricken look on his face as the stumbles down the stairs and into and nearby wall, knocking over a garbage can. He doesn't even stop to try and pick it up or pay anyone else any mind--he's already struggling to bolt from the area, his cybernetic hand twitching and jerking erratically as his organic one grips it in the closest thing Rhys has ever managed to a death grip. ]

Also probably like he could stand to eat a bowl and soup and sleep a million years. But sitting down on dirty rubble is fine too. You can tell Rhys is out of it because he isn't even complaining about it. ]
Oh...yeah.
[ People don't magically know where he lives. Duh. ]
Where are we?
no subject
With an idle thumb rubbing a small path over Rhys's spine, Takasugi looks up, to the blank walls and nondescript skyline, as if he's actually contemplating devoting thought to his answer.]
An alley somewhere. [But that's all the depth he cares to give it.
If nothing else, he'll take Rhys to his place, it isn't too far.] Sound familiar?
no subject
[ In the market, he means. There's a stall where Ann works that he frequents every day during his lunch break at work. He gets the impression that that's where he was off to when he takes the time to think about it.
He's not hungry though. Or thirsty. So maybe that's why he never made it?
Rhys closes his eyes and rubs his nose as he allows the touch to the back of his neck, trying not to think about the light tingle it sends down his spine. ]
I think I was getting donuts. Or coffee.
no subject
Takasugi wonders if Rhys even grabbed any silvers on the way out the door, since he's so clearly left his mind behind. Without any subtlety - it's not even remotely necessary - he leans into Rhys's space to look the man over.]
You think that's a good idea? [Either way, the answer will result in them not going.]
no subject
...Probably not.
[ He feels tired and woozy, and more than anything he's starting to feel like lying down might be a good option. The uncomfortable overheated feeling he had earlier is dissipating as his fever starts to slowly mellow out for the moment, but he still rubs at his face a little when the other man leans in. ]
I'm not that hungry anymore.
no subject
Takasugi nods with a hum, the first bit of sense Rhys has managed exactly the sort he'd wanted to draw out.] Thirsty?
[He doesn't have any water with him, but his flat isn't far. There Rhys can drink, and rest - until he's with it, or until Takasugi gets tired of him.
Dragging his hand slowly from the man's back, he lets it fall away as he stands, ready to help Rhys do the same in a moment.]
no subject
Not...really. But I'd love to wash my hands now.
[ he touched dirt with them Taka ): ]
no subject
Time to help him up.
Takasugi bends and extends his hand to grab Rhys's, grip sure on 'dirty' palms as they guide both metal and flesh from the ground.
He doesn't raise the man slowly.]
Come with me. [Not that there's an option, Takasugi hasn't let go. If he did, he imagines Rhys would be right back on the ground.]
no subject
Which is another mistake because that makes his head feel worse but there you go. Lesson learned: stop moving your stupid head Rhys. ]
Yeah...yeah that sounds. Good. I think I should lie down a little.
no subject
He won't clarify. And he probably won't agree to one even if Rhys requests it, silently dragging the man towards his lodgings without an explanation.
With how delirious Rhys is, he doubts he'd even notice a lapse in conversation.
Once they arrive, dim lighting greets Rhys with comfort, while the accommodations are sparse and cheap. He'll dump the man on the couch (if one could call wood with thin cushions and a blanket draped over it as much), before vanishing to retrieve some water.
Which he sets on the chipped coffee table without a word.]
no subject
[ No, not even the plague can curb Rhys's prejudice against anything that isn't expensive and lavish. He takes one look at the place after he sits down and decides it is the home of a poor person and god that must suck. Who wants to be poor? No one, that's who. No one likes poor people.
But he does like being able to sit down, so maybe he can deal with that for now. He won't touch the water but that has nothing to do with his current lodgings. He has no desire for food or water at this point and just looks up at Takasugi when he returns with it. ]
Why'sure place so cheap?
no subject
For the moment, he just stares, watching Rhys and the way his sickly body fits so well among the chipped, dilapidated furniture. ] If you don't like it, I'll see you out.
[Maybe defenestration style?
With water placed, Takasugi assumes Rhys has all he needs - no offered blankets or extra cushions. Mostly because he doesn't have them, his few articles of bedding reserved for people who aren't cesspools of illness.]
no subject
[ he's too sick to be turned out into the streets Taka, look at him. He's having trouble staying upright proper right now even if he is putting a great effort into trying to scowl at his would-be help. ]
no subject
[With that he stands, prepared to let Rhys actually
fend for himselfrest. But not without pause, looking down at the wavering man.]Though, I suppose since I'll be making you repay me for this, you're free to make any request you want.
So. Last chance. [Before he really does go about his business and let you sleep.]
no subject
....Do you have a blanket? Or some painkillers?
[ Fluff his pillows, give him a foot rub, etc etc ]
no subject
You'll repay me for both. [The blanket will inevitably become diseased, and opiates aren't a cheap commodity.
He leaves before his caveat finishes crossing his lips, returning promptly with a heavy wool blanket to drape over Rhys's feet. He can adjust that as he likes.
And a spare pipe, crude and wooden, with some crushed substance inside.] You know how to smoke?
no subject
.......No? Yes?
no subject
Takasugi recognizes confusion, turning the pipe in his hands as if another angle might jog Rhys's memory.
Which it clearly doesn't, the attempts at answering probably about as unhelpful as they possibly could have been.
He sighs and sits next to Rhys. After a quick strike of a match, the pipe is lit, a deep drag taken to ensure the embers stay productive. Exhaling a cloud of smoke Takasugi hands the pipe over, though he's not about to let go entirely.
Lest Rhys cough and drop hundreds of silvers' worth of opium on the musty floor.] Go ahead.
no subject
Then stares some more.
And then slowly reaches out to the pipe with one hand, looks like he doesn't quiet get it. Sniffs a little even, before he puts his mouth on it and inhales like he's taking a drip from a straw.
IT DOES NOT GO WELL. ]
no subject
Takasugi can tell, in the breath Rhys takes before he even places the metal in his mouth. His grip on the pipe tightened, so he can pull it back immediately when the man begins to cough.
Which is exactly what happens, the bowl quickly rescinded towards his chest.] Breathe.
And try again. More carefully this time.[Idiot.]
no subject
It takes him a minute to recover enough to breathe properly and groan, holding a cold hand to his clammy face. ]
Th-that's disgusting...
no subject
He's a little surprised Rhys didn't throw up.]
In your mouth, out of your nose. Don't think, don't taste.
[Lights the pipe again, then offers it.]
