"Oh, you worry too much, my friend. Surely the animals aren't so desperate to go against two grown men. And the man might still be alive and hurt somewhere. If he was close, he knows help is on the way." Or he had just wasted his breath, a lot. But that's fine, because he'll wade deeper into the jungle, trying not to get caught up in vines or hit his head on low hanging branches. Being a large man in a crowded jungle was not very fun at all.
He keeps hoping to find wagon tracks, but the ground is unforgiving. "Do you think a cart would even fit through here? It seems a bit tight." As in, a lot of his body is already tangled in vines.
no subject
Aside from that guy being eaten. I guess.
"...A cart would, maybe. /"
But Reinhardt was kind of built like a literal tank. No wonder he was getting tangled up in the vines.
"Here, I'm going to take point, / Let me clear the way."
He worms his way past Reinhardt and starts chopping through some of the vines for him. It won't do this guy they're trying to find any good if they're getting slowed down by nature, now will it?
no subject
It helps that he has someone with some skills ahead of him. It might not seem like much, but just having the undergrowth cleared out is extremely helpful in getting him to move a little quicker. He just tries not to think too much on how quickly things seem to grow back once they've passed. Except that it means that the cart could be completely swallowed by vines already and the owner of the cart as well. Maybe that is why he is not calling out for help.
"I will keep an eye for signs of struggle but I think this jungle might be enchanted." That, or all those vines belong to the massive man eating plants that hide deeper within. Plants that use their vines like a spider uses it's web.
no subject
Zer0 pauses his vine chopping long enough to look over his shoulder and glance past Reinhardt. He can't tell if the foliage is just really dense, of if everything he'd just chopped down actually is growing back, but either way their path back doesn't look too promising.
"You know what, forget I asked. / I don't want to know."
He'll just go back to clearing a path for the big guy and pretend like this jungle isn't one of the weirdest places he's ever visited.
no subject
"Yes, it is probably for the best." Because the deeper they go, the more and more Reinhardt feels like they are stepping into a trap. But plants can't be that smart, right? There had been that one movie, but that was just a movie and a very old one. There's nothing to worry about.
Ahead of them, he can see some of the trees thinning out and what looks to be a fruit baring plant. This must be what the man was doing out here. Collecting that delicious looking fruit. Which means the cart, and the man should be somewhere near by. Or that delicious fruit is a trap to lure in unsuspecting animals. Bait to dangle. They do look good to eat though.
"Ahead of you. Do you see this? Should we fan out and search for the cart? Or keep going?"
no subject
"A good place to start. / Let's keep an eye out for tracks, / He can't be too far."
He'll be a bro and chop a few more vines down for Reinhardt before approaching the plant.
no subject
But the fruit is before him. Still no sign of the cart, but he thinks he hears something muffled from behind a heavy set of vines. He reaches up for one of the fruits. He knows it's a risk, but it's one he has to take. He needs to know.
He just hopes ZerO will have his back if that dangling food happens to be bait. Which, apparently, it is. As soon as he pulls it, vines start speeding from everywhere and deeper into the jungle, just at the edge of his sight, a giant green maw opens wide on the jungle floor.
no subject
Assuming they survive the vine thing, that is. There are so many vines coming at them from so many different directions, that even Zer0's reflexes aren't enough to avoid all of them. He manages to shout a warning, "Incoming!" before chopping through a few of the vines.
And yeah there's totally an exclamation point popping up in front of this mask. This is a bit alarming and stuff.
no subject
So the man is saved, but the cost, it happens to be Reinhardt struggling against those vines trying to fight them off. The problem with his hammer is that he needs room to swing it. The vines and the jungle make that difficult.
He sees the exclamation and Reinhardt swears he's not going to let this man down. He's worked so hard!
"My arms!" He calls out. "And then try to grab the man away!" Because as soon as his arms are cut free, he's going to swinging his hammer. Swinging it so hard that fire comes from it.
no subject
He's kind of built like a twig, but he manages to heave the guy up and start moving with him. He pauses briefly and calls over his shoulder to Reinhardt,
"You good for a minute?"
no subject
He sees the man get lifted and he sets his feet. He throws another fire strike. He needs to build up a charge, get some momentum going before he can even try and see if Earthshatter would even work in a jungle on a living plant. "Ja. I have this. I'll hold it off. You get him safe and then we'll finish this thing together!" He then yells a war cry and launches himself at the plant, hoping that ZerO will take the man far enough away that he isn't threatened again. And also hoping that he'll come back. He fights better in a team.
no subject
Reinhardt is doing a fantastic job of distracting the plants, so Zer0 has a relatively easy time of finding a good hiding place for the poor unconscious guy. Once he's sure the guy will be safe, Zer0 makes his way back to Reinhardt, weaving through vines and chopping them down as he goes. It takes him a few minutes to navigate through the murder jungle. He doesn't really announce his return, but he does leap up onto Reinhardt's back, and from there launches himself into some incoming vines to slice through them. Sup boy?
no subject
"We need to find the head!" Did plants have heads? Well, it had to because it had been about to eat someone. So sure, it must. Everything dies when you take the head. So that's what he's hoping this time.
"I'll keep hitting it with my fire strikes." If only because he doesn't know how an Earth Shatter would work in a jungle on a plant. He's just going to trust his sword wielding teammate.
no subject
He's about to say something like 'do plants even have heads', but nothing else that's happened lately really makes much sense so he would totally buy this plant having some kind of head.
"I'll try to get closer. Cover me." It was a risky move even if Zer0 was good at chopping things, but they weren't going to make much progress unless they got up in this thing's grill. Reinhardt seemed to be pretty experienced in the art of watching someone's back, so Zer0 felt pretty good about his odds. As soon as he spots an opening in the mass of vines, he charges in.
no subject
The point is that ZerO needs him to do what he does best. That's provide some sort of cover. And while his barrier won't do much against a bunch of angry vines of a hungry plant-thing, his hammer and his fire strike do. "On it!" He sees that hole that ZerO made and goes right on in after him, swinging away with his hammer, the fire doing much to make the vines recoil for the moment.
"If we find the head, I might be able to stun it for a second so you can finish it." He yells, voice full of laughing enjoyment. Someone clearly loves his job.
no subject
Reinhardt is just a delight to work with, he sounds like he's having the time of his life. It's kind of adorable, in a 'gigantic old man that could rip you in half' sort of way.
"Understood." Zer0 doesn't sound quite as amused, but he does flash a brief ' :D ' in front of his faceplate. This is probably the most fun he's had since his arrival and he is absolutely going to have to work with this guy again.
But first they have to kill a plant. Now that he's gotten closer, Zer0's able to follow the vines to their origin point, and boy howdy that sure is a bigass venus flytrap. He chops a few more vines out of Reinhardt's path and quickly ducks out of the way.
"Over there, straight ahead!"
no subject
He rushes behind ZerO as the way is cleared. He has a good path now and waits for the other to get the heck out of the way. He doesn't want ZerO to get caught up in the wake of what he's about to try. "As soon as it's stunned, cut right though it's...stem? Neck? Whatever that is?" Because really, what is man-eating plant anatomy.
And he's not even sure if this will work. But by god he's going to try. So he rushes in, taking a huge leap. "Hammer...DOWN!!" The huge hammer slams hard into the ground. So hard that the jungle ground actually shakes and shatters, spreading forward from the hit. It must have reaches to the roots because for a second, the plant seems to freeze, the vines all falling. "NOW!!"
no subject
As soon as Reinhardt gives the order, Zer0 charges in, navigating the shattered ground and mess of fallen vines like a pro. He zeros in
heyooooon the stem-neck thing, diving in close and slicing clean through in one fluid movement. The plant makes some... kind of plant noise?? as it hits the ground.Aaaand it looks like the plant monster has been vanquished!!! Huzzah. Zer0 pokes it with his sword, and then gives Reinhardt a thumbs up.
no subject
He wipes his bow with the back of his hand and slings his hammer over one shoulder to join the swordman. "I hope everyone back in Wyver likes salad." Because of course Reinhardt is going to see if this thing is edible. With food being as short as it is, it's not going to hurt to try. So he's just going to grad the severed trap and start dragging it back to where they left the man and his cart.
"I'll have to have you watch my hammer once we get to the cart." Because Reinhardt is going to pull it back.
no subject
You can eat all the jungle monster plant thingy you want, big guy. Zer0's gonna pass. He jogs ahead a bit and retrieves the poor unconscious guy out from whatever bush he'd hid him under or whatever, and like half drags/half carries him back towards the cart.
"Watching a hammer shouldn't be too hard."
It's a pretty big hammer, it'll be super easy to keep an eye on.
no subject
"All right" He puts hands on either handle and hefts. He lifts it. There's not much strain. It's maybe slightly heavier than his armor. "I'm going to need you to shout out directions. I've got to concentrate on putting one foot in front of the other. And keep a watch for monsters too. If I put this down, I don't know if I'll be able to pick it back up again." After all, he's old and dragging this all back is going to take it's toll on his muscles.
no subject
"Just leave it to me, / I'll keep monsters off your back. / Pothole on the left."
Watch your footing, old bro, tipping this whole thing over would super suck.
no subject
"Thank you my friend. Hold on to your butt! I'm picking up the pace as soon as we get back to a normal road! After though, I'm definitely going to need a beer." A beer and about a 3 day nap, but right now, he's more than happy to charge his way back to Wyver, acting as a cart horse.
no subject
"Beer, sounds like a good plan."
Hell yes celebratory beers. They've totally earned it after this.
