Who: vax'ildan (hraefnes) & james potter (heorot) & others What: catch-all for log things for december! When: month of december Where: all over Warning(s):
[ all of it seems a bit impossible, looking at the two of them you'd never guess half the shit they've gotten into. half the lives they've saved. heroes of vox machina, lady of the grey hunt and champion of the raven queen. it's got to be a bit impossible, really, and yet here they are.
pilots of an impossible vessel. asked to do impossible things.
that light, airy happiness holds true as the ship continues to float, and he can feel vex turn to the screen, reach for the dial. it thrums in him like a kind of electricity, and his fingers curl tightly around the controls. ]
2...[ he's not worried, really. doesn't have a second's thought that vex will hesitate, or they'll miss their mark. he feels his heart rate in time with her's, and he can't wait to feel it through the ship, too. ]
[ After everything else they’ve done, everything else they’ve lived through that they shouldn’t have (and didn’t, in one case), it is only natural that they say as they’ve said to doubters, to the world, to fate itself before:
Fuck the impossible.
Go! A word that sings in heart, echoed aloud by her brother, and the ship responds. Slipping from sluggish to streamlined, it sweeps forwards the open space before them, passing through the parted gate as though it’s humanoid burdens and metal body were as light as a feather. Before them, a sea of endless lights, the stars seemingly infinite, and for a moment Vex is transfixed.
Then, a slow, steady turn, as her hands press dials and draw back on the controls. Time to bank this baby and bring her around to face the planet. ]
[ the worst of it is the feeling of that thought - what they shouldn’t have lived through, plus something more - vax almost chases after it. almost. but then there’s the go and the movement of the ship and everything else falls to the wayside.
breaking just out of the bay gives them their first sight of the expanse of space around them. vex is transfixed by it, and vax feels it - a sense of awe, feeling small and large all at once - but the feeling doesn’t stick around for all that long. before they even know what’s happening, their hands are moving. hitting the right buttons, preparing the right engines.
vex lets out a breath, something between a sigh and a laugh, before allowing himself another chance to glance over at his sister. he doesn’t need to say it, doesn’t need to count down. one look to catch each other’s eyes and they know.
