Who: Sidurgu Orl (
abyssalflame) & X'rhun Tia (
verflair)
What: Somebody's getting dragged gala shopping, whether he likes it or not. What would we ever do without sassy catdad?
When: A little before the gala I guess? In December? IDK
Where: Wyver
Warning(s): Awkward and cute? Otherwise I foresee little other than Sid's mouth.
[Shopping tends to be a little different for Sid here now that he actually has money to spend things on. Old habits still die hard; he's extremely conservative about what he buys, mostly on food and other necessities, while the rest is tucked away in case of an emergency. But he isn't as hard-off as he was in the Brume by a decently large margin, leaving him to wonder -- what is he supposed to do with all this?
He'd thought maybe he could figure out something practical to do with some of the excess if he looked around; perhaps a service he wouldn't normally get to use, or a food item he doesn't normally get to indulge in... things like that. But no matter what, he's coming up empty-handed except for the one thing he's been stubbornly digging his heels in about, which is the silent pressure to go to that damnable gathering they're having later in the month.
Ishgard's galas, he imagines, are largely similar, and he's never been to a single one of them. But even if he'd had the opportunity, he supposes he wouldn't have gone anyway. It's a sign of the luxury he's forsaken by virtue of his very lifestyle, and to do so would feel like a slap in the face to everything he's ever sacrificed... right?
So he thinks as he lingers to read some of the notices about the gala posted on the wall, his tail quietly flicking about behind him.]

And now there's going to be a gala, an honest to gods gala, and he's actually fairly excited for the chance to dress up- well, dress up outside of his usual Duelist attire- and do some dancing.
So he's out and about to find himself a suit of clothes for the occasion, when who should he spot but his favorite Xaela? ]
Something catch your eye?
[ As if it isn't obvious what Sid is looking at. ]
no subject
...Just looking.
[Is that embarrassment on his otherwise perpetually dour expression? Sid makes as if to walk away, still with that closed posture.]
no subject
[ X'rhun tuts a little in mock hurt, though his tail is swaying happily, betraying his amusement. ]
Just what kind of hello is that?
no subject
[Clearly, it must be. Sid shakes his head, casting him a sideways glance.]
What are you so happy about?
no subject
[ If he knew what it meant to grin like a Cheshire Cat, he would most certainly be doing that. ]
What do you say to indulging an old fool for a bell or two?
no subject
[It's sarcasm, ever the biting sort that is within his comfort zone, but a part of him is a little curious, too. Large gatherings have only ever been a thing for nobles for as long as he can remember, and admittedly, he has no idea what the first requirement for attendance would be other than fancy clothes or some such...
And dancing.
He can't dance.
...Hells with it, he's still not going.]
To which I might add, your tastes and mine seem to be drastically different.
no subject
[ There is nothing Sid can say that won't get his spiky arse dragged along on this shopping trip, sorry to say. ]
no subject
[Godsdamnit. Sid shakes his head in defeat.]
Lead the way, but I warn you, I'll be damned if I know anything about dress codes for fancy functions.
no subject
[ X'rhun is quite intent on the silver lining today, it seems. He guides Sid down the street, heading for the clothing shops and tailors that might be nearby. ]
I've a suspicion I already know the answer to this, but will you be attending?
no subject
[He doesn't even skip a beat there. Drama queen, much?]
no subject
[ Calm down Sid. ]
Why not?
no subject
...I wouldn't know what to do with myself.
[Wealth and privilege are things that not only seem astronomically out of reach for him, but that he's sworn off of to begin with anyway. It just seems... pointless. Isn't it?]
Pariahs have no place in social gatherings.
no subject
If that is your criteria then I shouldn’t be attending either, but this world is not our world. None of us are what we once were anymore.
no subject
I'll cave to the damn shopping request, but that's the extent of it. As I said, I wouldn't know what to do with myself even if I did go.
no subject
[ X'rhun is going to take the indecisiveness and latch on. Godspeed, Sid. ]
no subject
[It's not often he resorts to one of Ishgard's favorite phrases for exasperation, but when he does, it's because it's a life-or-death situation. Like this.]
You're going to insist upon it, aren't you? Just my luck.
no subject
[ And it is then that the foolhardy dps grabs the tank by the wrist and begins to drag him down the street to a tailor's shop. ]
no subject
[The sound that escapes Sid's throat is positively pitiful.]
Why-- Is this really necessary?!
no subject
Oh stop. You’re clearly curious. I’m simply giving you a nudge in the right direction.
no subject
[Now he's just getting defensive for the hell of it, but even so, in the door they go, and then suddenly Sid feels caught in a situation he has no idea how to navigate. So he says nothing, glancing at X'rhun to do the talking for him.]

The woman who runs the place appears from behind a display somewhere. She's short, even compared to the miqo'te in the room, with spectacles that magnify the look of her own eyes rather comically.
Yeeeees? she drawls as she approaches. What can I do for you-- a pause, and her eyes fall on Sid. --gentlemen?
X'rhun, for his part, sweeps his hat off and bows. ]
My friend and I are in need of clothing suitable for the upcoming gala. And do not let my compatriot's armor fool you. His shoulder-to-waist ratio will prove quite the challenge!
[ A challenge? Please, darling. There isn't a challenge in all of Wyver that I cannot meet! She motions for Sid to follow her, and he'd better go, because this woman clearly means business. ]
Go easy on the poor dear, won't you?
[ That statement clearly wasn't meant for Sid, but X'rhun winks at the Xaela all the same. ]
no subject
[It's more like a yelp than a proper angry shout. He doesn't follow her at first, trying to act cool and composed even though it's clear he isn't, but when she shoots him a glare, Sid ducks his head and follows with a whip of his tail.]
I'll have your tail for this.
no subject
But, while Sid is off getting browbeaten into a suit by a lady who barely comes up to his waist, X'rhun will peruse the shop for something that strikes his fancy. ]
no subject
This woman... has made me an offer I can't refuse, evidently. [By which he means she's guilt tripped him into it.] So I suppose it's happening. Satisfied now?
no subject
Oh, quite!
Though, of course my offer of dance lessons still stands, as well.
no subject
[The woman can be heard snickering in the background. Sid pulls a hand down his face.]
Fine. A short one. Keeping in mind I've no interest in retaining any of it.
no subject
[ At least he's not dragging Sid into a waltz in the middle of the shop! ]
