What: A catch-all for January with OTA prompts and closed starter toplevels.
When: Throughout January
Where: Mainly in and around Olympia with some Wyver action.

olympia proper;
one - settling in;the outskirts;
[There's plenty to do in Olympia the first week back - progress having been halted for the gala and all. Haru, never one to sit idly by when there's something to do, is eager to volunteer (and since she wore an Olympia pin at the gala, her volunteering isn't rebuffed). She can be found anywhere that needs work during the first week, either helping with the repairs or, where there are enough people already, passing out water and food to the workers.
For example, if you've been working hard, she might approach with a smile and hold up a package wrapped in cloth.]
It's about time to take a break, I'd say. Would you like to join me? I have enough to share.
two - temple visits;
[It's difficult to live in the city and not hear about the temples of Thesa - and so, although she knows that Thesa is a space station and not actually a moon or a goddess or anything of the sort, she can't help but visit.
...and, well. Where people gather, there's likely to be information. As she browses the religious trinkets that some people are peddling in the temple's main chamber, she keeps an ear out for anything that might be significant.
She pauses in front of someone selling good luck charms and picks one up to get a closer look at it.]
...how lovely... the craftsmanship is wonderful.
[Maybe she should buy some...? They could all use a bit of luck in the coming year.]
three - gainful employment;
[Once things are more settled, Haru goes to inquire about joining the Royal Guard - and, eventually, she ends up accepted. Soon enough she's assigned a route to patrol, and as such she becomes a common sight in the Market District, keeping an eye on things and enforcing the peace as best she can.
Unfortunately, this means that when she's on a patrol, she can't help but have a front-row seat to the rallies that some of the Olympians are hosting to call both citizens and refugees alike to action. All in all, it reminds her quite a bit of the politicians campaigning back in Tokyo - which isn't a bad thing in and of itself, but...
Some of the things they say make her a little uncomfortable.
She manages to keep her expression more or less neutral as it's going on, but there are probably flickers of unease on her face as people make especially vocal calls to Get Wyver before they get us! She can't help but worry for those who may be caught up in the conflicts.
A job is a job, though, and she can't just leave just because she doesn't like what she's hearing. ...some of the unease seems to be present throughout the crowd, however. And she's keeping a very close eye on things lest they break out into a fight.
(Spoilers: it likely will.)]
one - escort service;a visit to wyver;
[As idyllic as some parts of the countryside may be, Haru knows that it's likely that there are dangers lurking out there in some places, too. So when she's not on schedule for patrol, she spends some time near the stables that are lending out mounts and offers her services as an escort or even just an extra set of hands, if you're capable of protecting yourself but may need help carrying things back.
Better safe than sorry, after all! She's not asking for payment for this - she'd like to explore their surroundings as well, after all, and it's good training. So here they are on your mount of choice, headed to your destination of choice.]
Is this your first time trying out a mount such as this one?
two - murkwell hollow;
[Okay, sure. This place is creepy.
But it wouldn't be the first time Haru's spent time in a place that's objectively creepy, and it likely won't be the last. The way she sees it, the more familiar she is with the dangerous parts of this land, the better - if she's ever called on to do work there, she'll already be comfortable enough with it to not let it affect her work.
So she's here with her axe (just in case) her phone to take notes and pictures - all the better to look back on later. This is essentially a scouting mission, and you're along for the ride!]
Is there anything in particular you're interested in tracking down?
[She's just here to see what she can find, but she doesn't have a problem with looking for anything specific, too.]
one - aaawkward;wildcard;
[Haru makes a point to visit Wyver at least once early in the month before she joins the Royal Guard - after all, it may be more difficult to do in the future. She's not foolish enough to think that anyone is going to think kindly of a member of the Guard traipsing off to Wyver.
(Not that she intends on cutting ties with anyone who stays - she'll just have to be more cautious about how she stays in touch with them.)
What she didn't anticipate was the Wyver locals having such long memories about something as small as what kind of pin she wore at the gala. The first time she's turned away from a shop, she thinks perhaps the shopkeeper was simply closing up soon. The second, she wonders if perhaps she's done something to offend someone.
The third? Well, that makes her frown a little, because she's been minding her manners. As she walks away, though, she sighs and mumbles under her breath.]
...I'm beginning to wonder if perhaps I should challenge them at the ring for the right to be served.
two - cutpurses;
[Awkward though the air may be, she still intends to try and get some shopping done here; silver is silver, and goods are goods, and she has money to spend and seeds she'd like to buy to grow back home, if she can. But as she's walking through the marketplace in the Old City, trying to find someone who doesn't remember what kind of pin she wore, she notices something a few people up.
Namely: someone attempting to pickpocket some other shopper.
She moves quickly through the crowd, and before the pickpocket can draw their hand away, her hand snakes out so she can wrap her fingers around their wrist.]
I wouldn't do that, if I were you.
[She's smiling, but she means it.
As to whether you're playing the pickpocket or the pickpocketee - up to you!]
[If none of the above works for you, just hit me with whatever! I just ask that you let me know when and where it's happening; I can come up with a justification for Haru to be wherever you'd like. Alternatively, hit me up by PM or athungriest and I'll be glad to write a personalized starter for you.]

olympia-2
So the temple is a natural place to start. As it happens, she's passing behind Haru when she hears the girl's murmur. She stops in her tracks, peering over Haru's shoulder.]
I see what you mean. There's surely something to be said for the craftsmanship of the pious, I imagine.
no subject
[After all, one wouldn't offer up a substandard piece for religious purposes - this sort of thing is sure to be their best work. And with that in mind, Haru can't quite keep herself from sliding a few pieces of silver to the craftsman, who looks pleased to have made a sale.]
It must have taken a lot of practice to learn to make this.

That's true, there are certainly more nefarious purposes they could have used this for...
[Fairy stories about hapless wanderers being forced to dance until they died come to mind, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. Those who are affected only seem to be under the influence for a short time, just long enough to, you know, have some fun.]
But for the moment, it seems that they simply want to ensure that everyone has fun tonight. I suppose that's not a bad thing.
no subject
wanting everyone to enjoy themselves is probably not the worst thing that's ever happened at a holiday party. he'll give her that one. )

...it was similar to that, but a little different, for the people whose hearts we stole. We saw what they truly believed... but what they couldn't admit to the rest of society.
[Okumura Foods wouldn't have lasted long if her father had admitted that he only viewed his employees as disposable tools to make him money, but Haru knows firsthand - that sort of perception of the people around him definitely showed through in his actions, albeit in a more subtle way outside of the Metaverse.]
At any rate, whether we like to admit it or not, the truth is the truth. There's little point in turning a blind eye to it simply because we don't understand.
[Or don't want to understand, as the case may be.]

It's all right if you don't know how to dance, Sorey. Haru does. She'll teach you.
For now, she'll take the lead - though if he's a quick learner, it won't take him long at all to pick up the basic steps. Waltzing is simple, in theory, so long as you don't try and do anything crazy.]
Have you attended parties like this before, Sorey?

The places that we come from are a part of all of us. [Haru smiles faintly and glances at their surroundings - which are very different from what both of them remember, even though they come from incredibly dissimilar worlds.]
We all carry bits and pieces of our pasts with us. But that's not a bad thing. The places we grew up in, the people we knew, and the things we experienced... they're what make us who we are.
no subject
That's right. There are people I can't ever forget, too. Without them, I wouldn't be the same person I am today. Though it's a bit selfish, I wish some of them would wake up soon.
[He's not sure what Haru's situation is, but he's been alone save for Ullr, his horse, and Zeo, his hawk. But to wish them here when there's conflict on the horizon...]

quest » a blessed entourage - diana, sorey, zevran;
Well, they'll cross that bridge when they come to it.
For now, it's a nice enough day out, and Haru can't say that the company is bad. She quite likes Sorey and Diana, and though she doesn't know Zevran very well yet, he doesn't seem a bad fellow either. Lue Nun is very kind. The horses are adorable.
Se and Viv... she has to be suspicious of them, because it's her job to do so, but they don't seem like bad people. Not really.
The sun is bright overhead as they make their way outside the gates of Olympia, and she brings up a hand to shield her eyes as she looks on ahead.]
We've made good time setting out. I believe we'll make it pretty far before we have to stop for the night.
no subject
She was also pleased to see the young woman she'd met at the temple some time beforehand was part of their group; she'd found Haru quite pleasant to speak with. And the other two members of her new team had seemed likeable enough so far.
Diana had noted that the others were all visibly armed or armored in some way, while she, in turn, only had her normal clothes and her collapsible wand, which was easily concealed inside her waist sash. She could easily pose as an unarmed civilian, and possibly be taken lightly, she realized.
Why, then, would she be on this trip in the first place? It had taken her a few moments to come up with a plan, albeit a slightly embarrassing one. Thankfully, Haru had gone along with it.
It's a little embarrassing, but for the purposes of this, she'll play whatever part she needs to, of a sheltered child of nobility merely spending time with her girlfriend. Besides, it's not like Haru isn't a sweet girl. That makes it easier.]
We're going through the forest, aren't we? That sounds like it could be a little frightening! [She says, stepping close to Haru and hoping she sounds convincingly worried.]

quest » preaching in a material world - shinjiro;
Provided they don't have a costly run-in with some kind of beast, anyway.
They're at the mouth of the cave, now, looking over their supplies before they head in. After a few moments, she nods.]
I believe we have everything we need. Perhaps we'll even make it back in time to pick something nice up from the markets for dinner?
[Since they will, in theory, be getting paid well for this.]
no subject
Here's hopin'.
[ shinji is the type that doesn't like to get his hopes up. it would be nice to come back in time to pick up dinner, but he's also preparing himself for the less desired scenario, lest they stumble into yet another weird ritual. maybe there are shamans waiting for them deeper in the cave.
he takes a step in, mindful of the uneven rocky ground beneath his feet. the axe he brought along may not be the best for picking precious gem stones off the cave wall, but it will have to do. there are glimmering lights in the visible distance, so it doesn't seem like they have to look far. ]

Today, whoever, is not that day. Instead, it's the day when all three of the little furballs suddenly seem to have more energy than they know what to do with, all at the same time. And that means... it's time to take them out for a walk! They're small enough that a single person (read: Shinji) could probably manage alone if they tried, but since she, Minako, and Shinji were all in the house at the same time...
Well, why not? That's why they're all here now, making sure the dogs are secure on their leashes as they head for the front door.]
Where do you think we should take them?

and honestly? it could be worse. way worse. as far as shinjiro's concerned, if he keeps getting a new puppy deposited on his doorstep it would just be a good problem. a growing problem. more than a handful of problem. loud and hungry problem. still, it's hard to be upset when you've got 3 little furballs climbing over you at any point in the day. ]

By this time, Yu had managed to get a sword, but it was brittle and threatened to crack in his hands if he struck too hard. He figured it would be better than nothing until he could get enough money to procure himself a proper one.

But all things told? Taako isn't the worst person she could be pairing up with for this. In fact, he's probably one of the best. She can handle the traps; he can take care of the more magical aspects of this little misadventure.
Or something to that effect.
Haru adjusts her gloves before easing the door open, then glances his way.]
