A person makes a contract wit ha demon for something and win they die, they fall into Hell. Those that manage to survive waking up there become demons. You can also fall if you have committed certain sins. Heaven can also do something similar. Otherwise everyone else is reborn. There's still some little things I don't understand about the whole process. But it all sounds like a bad deal to me, beyond having immortality and power.
