[ Perfect. Prompto trots over to join her near the door, before wheeling back to face the phoenix. He considers wedging himself in the door to keep it from closing if a trap is sprung, but...that also has the potential to crush him, which he'd rather avoid, especially after she went and saved his life and all. ]

Alright. Whenever you're ready.

[ Let's all try not to die, now. This treasure better really be worth it... ]

[ it isn't until prompto is back beside her again that she returns her attentions to the phoenix again - she just peeled him off the floor once, she isn't keen on doing it again.

so HERE WE GO.. one last gesture and nod, and the bird drops and seizes the heirloom in its beak and immediately turns to dart toward them as quickly as it can. ]

[ Prompto ushers Alisaie through the door before he darts through himself, sprinting along the corridor until he dares to glance back at the room they just left -

...Nothing happened.

Oh well! Better safe than sorry... ]

[ through the door they go, the phoenix sailing after them a moment later, swift and direct, and alisaie tenses, ready to bolt, or fight, or -

- or.. nothing. no roaring, no rumbling, or shrieking, or the whisper of projectiles flying through the air. just the same old creaky silence and dusty air. well. okay. the phoenix alights on her shoulder, and drops the stone into her waiting palm. ]

Well, that was anti-climactic.

...Yeah, it kinda was.

[ All the same, he heaves a heavy sigh, glad to have the ordeal over with. Two near-death experiences are enough for him for one day, thank you very much!

Still, he can't help a satisfied smile as she takes the stone in hand, and Prompto grins up at the phoenix. ]

Couldn't have done it without you, our feathered friend.

[ ...Does he have a name, or... ]

[ .. uh. no?? it's an entirely new familiar that no one has ever summoned before so.. yeah, no name. just phoenix. like carbuncle. ]

Yes, I have a feeling it will come in quite handy.

[ summons generally do. lest we not forget carbuncle saving prompto's bacon from that window he got stuck in oh so long ago, in the ye olden days. ]

[ Wow, how creative..... ]

Did you know it was going to work?

[ ...How lucky did he get, here? ]

[ he got very lucky. incredibly lucky. they both did. slowly, she lifts her free hand, the phoenix lowering its elegant head to nuzzle gently against her fingers, her eyelids low, pensive, thoughtful. ]

To be honest, I was not even attempting to summon it, I was trying to heal you, but it.. came to me.

[ Prompto's heart skips a beat, and for a moment, he almost panics again - but they're far past the danger now. The corridor they're in is slowly giving way to a regular, old fashioned tunnel, and there are breaks in the rock above letting sunlight through. It won't be long until they're out now.

But to know that he came that close...it's chilling, and a reminder that this is no game. They were saved here once, and the Natha seemed to be able to bring back the dead from their worlds. However, he has no reason to think they could do as much here. ]

Guess he knew when you really needed him, huh? [ His words are gentle as he looks up at the phoenix in wonder. ] When we both needed him.

[ ah, sunlight again.. and even better, fresh air. not a lot, only what filters through the cracks, but still a welcome reprieve from the damp, dusty air here. alisaie slows a moment to lifts her face to the warm light, breathing deeply. ]

I suppose he did. [ her voice and smile both are a fond melancholy. ] And thank the Gods for it.

[ Prompto slows as well, slipping his hand into hers now that they're no longer running helter-skelter down the hallway. His smile echoes her own, soft and genuine. ]

You can say that again.

[ It may have only been a moment that he was out, but things can change so quickly in a moment. ]

[ his hand feels warm, and alisaie gently squeezes her fingers tightly around his own before weaving them together. it's easy to shrug off their tomb raiding adventure, but she'd come so very close to losing this, to never feeling the warmth of his skin, the pressure of his fingers around and between her own.

she cannot help but feel a little.. guilty, for it. her recklessness, her brash tendency to rush headlong, thoughtlessly into danger - how many times had she put her brother through this? her friends? probably far too many. ]

Good to know, at least, that I should have no further trouble scraping you off of the floor, if need be.

[ bacon saving phoenix is going to come in handy. ]

Iiiin any case, I'll try to...limit the need for floor-scraping. Next time we get into a scuffle, I'll be more careful.

[ Because...yeah...he shouldn't have been in that close and they both know it. Fighting alongside Alisaie isn't like fighting alongside the Crownsguard. If one of them takes a serious hit, there's no convenient royal magic to depend on for quick healing. Just something he's going to need to bear in mind. ]

[ yup.. too bad about that, rip. ]

Good to know. So long as you keep your distance, I am sure you will be fine.

[ gunslingers on the back line, silly boy!! she definitely has convenient healing magic too, but when it is only the two of them things can happen so very quickly - if she hadn't been able to fell that beast soon enough.. well, who knows what may have happened in the meantime? but they have both learned a valuable lesson, in any case. ]

[ He gives her hand a reassuring squeeze as they reach the end of the corridor at last. No boulder chase scenes for them! Alas, but at least I got to use one Indy gimmick in this thread. ]
