Who: William Twining (
notsolomon) & You!
What: January catch all+quests
When: Throughout the month
Where: Mostly Olympia and some Wyver
Warning(s): None right now. Note: I'm also open to prose!
A. Preaching in a Material World, Wyver
[Before he'd woken up on that accursed ship, William had never really had to work before. Even when he'd been a poor noble, he'd still been able to get by due to being in school. Coming here though had been an experience, on many levels. He'd managed to get the position of clerk for a small textile shop, but well, that just wasn't enough money to leave him satisfied.
So why not go on an adventure? The fact that it was for someone actually important just sweetened the deal. And it was an excuse to go out exploring and see more of this strange world they were stuck in. Of course, William wasn't naive either. He knew this was a dangerous undertaking and while he has the magic to defend himself, it's better to have a companion along. Ideally someone who can do all the brute lifting and stabbing of dangerous things.
So here he is, with a teammate in tow, walking along the edge of one Wyver's lakes, peering into the deep waters. He's not seeing any of that shiny treasure just yet though.]
I hope it hasn't been picked dry here, otherwise we'll have come all this way for nothing.
B. Preaching in a Material World, Edrathe Ruins
[Much like before, William's decided to take a companion along on this treasure hunting expedition. It's someways into the cave and he has a magic flame floating in front of them, lighting the way. It's colder than he expected, and he wishes he'd taken a heavier coat with him.
It's almost dead silent, save for the occasional sense of something living and breathing. It's oppressive and he's beginning to wonder if it's really worth going all this way to get a shiny rock for a stupid priest.]
So is there anything you're planning on doing with your share of the reward?
[Might as well keep the atmosphere light.]
Olympia, shopping
[He's out and about, window shopping mostly, enjoying agonizing over all the things he still can't quite afford. Better clothes, books and furnishings for the place he managed to acquire, William stares at it all, jotting down notes in a little journal he carries with him. It's hard being restricted right now and he'd probably have a little more money if he hadn't attended the gala, but such a social event was a must and required a good suit, however pricey. Though necessity didn't make his wallet hurt less.
Though he does have enough money to put towards some petty indulgences, like one of the many local cafes. Like most geniuses, he can't thrive without coffee, so he's been trying out different shops, trying to find the one that has the best brew. Not that anything will ever compare to Kevin's. But until Kevin somehow appears or awakens here, William had to make due with other sources.
But if you bump into him either shopping or in a coffee shop, he'll actually be happy to engage in conversation. After all, you're both in the same boat here, so why not get along?]

Compared to William, Reign felt comfortable inside the cave's cooler environment, not at all affected by the cold chill. The floating flame was doing an excellent job of lighting the way for them, but Reign was also keeping his eyes and ears open for any other form of indication that he should be wary of. ]
Reward, eh? If I managed to save enough, I'm planning to open up a shop selling perfumes. What about you?
no subject
The sound of dripping water seemed to be the only thing punctuating the air of the cave right now, along with a strong smell of damp and minerals.]
Perfume? [But after a moment.] I'm going to save a portion of it and use the rest to further improve my living situation. Ideally, I'd like to eventually get a bigger house, in preparation for the future, whatever that may hold. One always has to be thinking ahead.
no subject
Yup! I know it may sound strange, but I did quite well in my own world. Maaaaaybe a different kind of perfume to the one you're familiar with. [ Reign chuckled sheepishly. If only William knew that the fragrances he made were based on his pheromones, its scent used to manipulate humans.
Being careful with the slippery rocks, Reign continued along behind William. ] Oh? That's a great idea. Better accommodation is always a good incentive, if anything.
no subject
I suppose so. I never used anything like that over much, so I can't say I'm an expert. [He'd probably be a little dismayed if he knew about that. And strangely curious, as is his way.]
Despite the possibility of danger, William is actually enjoying himself. He's never been caving before, though he's always wished to. So this is one part of his future diary completed.] Yes. I need to think of my reputation as well. And there are... some troublesome people I am hoping will wake up and come to me. And when they do, I'll need to keep them contained somehow.
no subject
It really depends on what you're using it for. A bit of fragrant scent can go a long way to attracting partners. [ He threw a playful wink at William. Either way, if Reign did managed to start on his perfume trades again, it would be the normal kind. Perhaps a few special ones that include certain effects. There was still much for him to learn and discover, in terms of materials for the perfume. ]
That sounds like quite a daunting task, keeping them contained. What kind of troubles do they bring?
no subject
Bleah, who needs that? [He pulls a face because really, he has enough problems as it is. Granted, the chemistry that goes into perfume making is intriguing in it's own right, so he might end up being a little curious if Reign ever talked to him about it in the future.]
All kinds of trouble. Getting into fights, stealing sweets, playing in the dirt with meatheads. [He sounds annoyed now. And then it passes into resignation.] But well, what can a person do when something like that gets attached to them.
no subject
Maybe not now, but who knows about the future. So if you should need one, you know where to find me.
[ Potentially advertising himself much? Well, it's the least Reign could do. If his business ever took off, at least this meant that he'll have one more person to help spread the word around. ]
Wow. Quite a handful you have there. How do you even manage to keep them all in line?
[ Reign would have lost his mind a long time ago. ]

Kanade joins him looking at the...unhelpfully glimmering water.]
Wouldn't be much of a treasure if we could find it easily. [Maybe they might collect some ice and mistake it for a crystal. Who knows how deep the lake goes.] Did you bring a swimsuit?
no subject
He shuddered at the thought of getting into the water.] I did, though I hate to think of what's down there. I'm not the best swimmer, so I'd rather not go too far if I don't have to.
[Maybe he could magic an air bubble if he had to go under? He had never experimented with his magic to that extent, but if he had to, maybe now was the time?
But ugh, who knew what was lurking under there?]
no subject
babysitkeep him safe, then she can't expect him to watch over her instead.]You came for an adventure, right? Why back out when we're already here?
[She extends a hand. ENCOURAGEMENT.] Come on.
no subject
Alright, alright. It's just exploring I suppose. And there is money down there. Hopefully.
[He grimaced and then clasped his hands together.]
Alright, though one should change first.
[He said as he grabbed his bag, looking for a discet spot.]

[With that, she heads towards some trees in the distance, to give him privacy and have some of her own. It doesn't take long before she returns, coat still over her swimwear for a last few moments of warmth.
William's not back yet. Might as well start preparations. The tourism season has passed, so she managed to rent some snorkeling gear for cheap -- earning some incredulous faces from the store owner. He probably would be even more shocked to know how far away from the beach she is now.]
no subject
He nods approvingly at the snorkeling gear.]
Good thinking. I only have to worry about my breathing now.
[Better to just use magic on himself. He steps towards the edge of the water.]
Want to just start out from here then and see how far we get?

He doesn't bother glancing over to the presumably younger male before he answers bluntly: ] Saving it. [ He's... boring... ] If I'm feeling it I may buy a pair of new boots, but that's about it. There's nothing I can name now that's a necessity.
[ Life is easy when you don't need to eat or sleep. ]
And you?
no subject
That's a good sound answer. [Fortunately he's a little boring too.]
As for me, like you, tuck some away, but also improve my home. Ideally buy a bigger one. People tend to pop up around me, so it'd be good to have a few rooms to shove them in.
Hopefully this will be the first step in that direction.
no subject
[ He takes a quick glance at the smaller individual. ]
Yeah, you don't need to be around any of that. Plus it's a hell of a lot more fun to live alone.
no subject
You sound like you had a bad experience... [He sounded very adamant William could only imagine.]
More fun? I have wondered about doing that. I've always lived with servants or in the dormitory with other boys. I'm used to having people around. It's strange having so much space here.
no subject
You'll have neighbors, so it won't be that bad. But that's if they like you.
[ He treads over uneven floor, quickly noticing the sudden slope and avoiding the possibility of losing balanced. ]
Careful.
no subject
Well, they don't have to like me. they just have to not be a nuisance.
[He notes the floor and takes a care.]
Right.

[Says the man carrying not a weapon, but a rudimentary fishing pole and a wooden crate. They both look well-used. The crate's about half full of bottles of beer, and quite heavy, but he's carrying it like it's nothing, under one arm.
He was definitely a good idea for a bodyguard on this trip, what are you talking about!
At least he looks like he's ready to have a good time, though, and that's gotta be worth something. Lancer smiles as he follows William's gaze, scanning the surface of the water himself. Nothing's jumping out, literally or figuratively.]
Enchanted waters . . . that's what they say. Who knows what I'll fish up out of there if I catch anything? Could be the Salmon of Knowledge. I always wondered how that thing tasted. Never asked!
[Whether that reference tips William off to anything will depend on how much he knows about Irish culture.]
no subject
[He sighed, though he didn't actually mind over much. This guy was still presumably going to be of some use. Assuming he didn't get drunk.
And admittedly, his personality wasn't unpleasant and even at times reminded William of a particular companion from home he was missing. It was almost scary at times.]
Hmmm, I don't know if something like that would happen. [His Irish history is weak, but William does know that one, due to the subject it was about.] One could only be so lucky. Just imagine how much money we could make off it?
[Yep his mind is bent towards greed.]
no subject
Though he's not quite that money-minded, and he gives William an amused look.]
You'd rather have that than the wisdom? I learned somethin' new about you today. But, truth is, I never envied the king the taste he got.
[But that aside—he nods out at the lake.]
Who's diving in first? I didn't see anything on the shore. Maybe we oughta take another look, but I've got a feeling one or both of us'll have to get our feet wet to get this guy what he needs.
no subject
[He shrugged though. Truth be told, William also had the suspicion that the magic fish tasted horrible.]
...you should probably dive first. I can swim, but it's not my best talent. Unless I use magic to help me.
[It should be obvious that tests of endurance and strength are not why William is here.]
no subject
[He gets to his feet again and moves to the water's edge, leaving everything back on the beach this time.]
And if you can tell me anything about this water before I leap in, I'd appreciate it.
no subject
[Better to make a mistake in the water than the unforgiving vacuum of space. But he walked towards the water and looked down at it.]
I don't know much, other than that apparently it has enchantments in it? Though who knows what that could mean...
[He frowned and then shrugged.]
Well one can just deal with that when it happens.
