What: A catch-all for January.
When: Throughout the month.
Where: Mostly Wyver.
Warning(s): None so far?
1 ) That's Not a Horse
[ Gamora does not have experience with dragons. There were none on her planet, and even less in space, but in Wyver, that isn’t the case.
She’s also discovered that traveling can be a pain, and with the availability of mounts (which she hasn’t acquired for herself yet), she’s drawn to the wyverns she’s regularly seen. She’d prefer something that wasn’t, you know, alive, but given the options, she’s willing to take one for a test-drive, to see what she thinks.
The reins are handed off to her, and she leads a beautiful red wyvern towards the city gates. She runs a palm down the beast’s broad neck, feeling its scales with appreciation, and when it turns its head to meet her eyes, she stares right back into the reptilian slits.
A quiet hiss, and Gamora reaches out to set her hand on its snout. It doesn’t snap at her, and instead, slowly blinks in quiet acceptance.
She’s just about to climb aboard, because she’s going on an adventure.
Come along for a ride? ]
2 ) Stay The Night
[ It’s nearly nightfall out in the Undergrowth, and Gamora’s wyvern is getting fidgety. She remembers what she was told about sending the beast home if she wouldn’t return before sundown, so she pulls the reins taut to stop the mount, glancing over her shoulder at her companion. ]
We should find somewhere to stay out here. He needs to return to the city, and he won’t be willing to take us with him in a few minutes.
[ The wyvern hisses and shakes out its head, tugging against its bridle. ]
… The sooner we get off, the better.
3 ) Disturbing The Dead ( A )
[ Gamora has adjusted to making a living since joining the Guardians. Earning units where they could was normal, which is why picking up odd jobs for silver doesn’t bother her.
So here she is, wandering through this damned crypt with anyone unlucky enough to join her.
She has an excellent sense of her surroundings. She can usually detect traps with little trouble, but when ghosts come into the mix, it’s hard to focus on possible trip wires that will dump her and whoever’s joined her into a dark, unwelcoming pit.
An unholy howl fills the crypt’s passage, and as Gamora whirls around to search for the source, her ankle catches on—
Oh, damn it.
The ground drops out beneath her, and there’s going to be a lot of tumbling down to land in a tangle of limbs in the dark.
Gamora gives a short grunt of annoyance as she lands directly on top of someone.
Oops. ]
4 ) Disturbing the Dead ( B )
[ This has been a long, miserable haul through the dark, and Gamora is in no mood for shenanigans.
At the end of the maze is a stockpile of dusty odds and ends that look like they might be valuable.
Crouching down by the heirlooms, Gamora lifts one up to give it a once-over. ]
This had better be what they want.
5 ) Wildcard
( ooc: have something in mind? hit me up @poprocks ! )
no subject
[ Well, okay, not really. Peter doesn’t really know. What he does know is that the guy’s very existence is enough to make Gamora tense and wary in a unique way, and Peter can pick up on that, at least.
He picks up a twig from the ground, fiddles with it to give his hands something to do. ]
We’ll watch him. If he wakes up, then— we’ll deal with him. But maybe he’ll never wake up? Maybe he’s just gonna stay in that pod for the rest of time.
no subject
Maybe.
[ ... She doesn’t sound convinced. ]
For now, it’s good enough that he’s there.
[ He isn’t a current problem, at least. ]
no subject
But it doesn’t change the fact that he’s there at all.
[ Which just goes to support his “the Natha are not-so-secretly giant douchebags” theory. ]
no subject
No, it doesn’t.
He’s there, and I can’t do anything about it.
[ But she’s also a little glad that Nebula is still asleep, too, given Thanos’s existence. She isn’t entirely sure her sister would leave his pod be. ]
no subject
And it’s like a ticking time bomb. I get it.
[ He runs his hands over his legs – an outlet for the nervous energy building in him – and at length, he shakes his head. ]
How come you didn’t say anything earlier?
no subject
You are dealing with enough right now.
[ Peter is still— dealing in the wake of Ego's mess, and she didn't want to give him yet another nightmare to consider. ]
no subject
Gamora, this is kind of a big deal.
Besides—
[ He picks up another twig, idly snapping it into pieces. He wishes he had something else to fidget with, wishes he had his Walkman to turn over in his hands, but—
The reminder is like a physical punch to the gut, but he does a decent enough job of hiding it with another snap of the twig. ]
That was months ago, and it’s over. This is a whole lot more pressing.
no subject
The fact that it's over doesn't mean it no longer affects you.
[ It's nowhere near that simple; putting something behind oneself, Gamora knows from experience, isn't just a matter of deciding that they should have moved beyond it. ]
no subject
It’s over, and it’s done. [ Flatly, simply. ] If we’re gonna believe all the bullshit they’re feeding us, then Ego’s planet got destroyed in the Storm, we got whisked away here, and it’s done. We’re good.
[ Another snap, another toss, and he sighs sharply. ]
You should’ve told me about this sooner.
no subject
Or maybe the fact that Ego's vessel is here means that the Natha are lying about the Storm?
She's not certain Peter needs to know about Ego yet, or if... that's the right call, to talk about the Natha? Damn it. ]
You're good?
[ Ah, ignoring that last part, apparently. ]
no subject
I— yeah. I'm good. I—
[ He breaks off, then, frowning deeply, then he jabs the twig in her direction. ]
Don't change the topic.
no subject
[ Because it's the reason she hasn't wanted to burden him with the news of Thanos.
(And a part of her was concerned Peter might wonder about Ego in stasis. She's almost glad he seems to assume that his father is truly gone.) ]
no subject
[ He tosses the twig into the fire, distantly wishing it was, like, something bigger. Something that shot up embers. As it stands the stick just sort of... dissolves into the flames.
Hardly satisfying. ]
Even if I wasn't fine – which, by the way, I am – it's not like an evil psycho is gonna stop being an evil psycho just on account of someone having a bad day. Like, Thanos isn't gonna wake up and be all—
[ And he makes his voice deeper, gruffer. ]
"Hey, Star-Lord, you look like you haven't been getting much sleep. You eatin' alright? Should we try this another day?"
no subject
It would be different if it was one day, Peter.
[ But it's not. It hasn't been since they woke up, and maybe he hides it better, maybe it's less obvious, but it's still there. ]
It's relevant because you have had other things on your mind.
no subject
Okay, but my point still stands. A bad guy isn't gonna back off just 'cause I'm in a sour mood.
no subject
But as you said, he's still in that pod. What difference would it make between knowing now and months ago?
no subject
no subject
[ Which it just did. ]
no subject
[ And he sounds almost incredulous, almost affronted.
But what's done is done, and even while it's in his usual mode of operation to keep harping on this, it's just going to become a bigger argument than they need right now, and it'll get them nowhere. So in a surprising show of restraint, he scrubs at his face, taking a deep breath and counting to ten.
A little more calmly, ]
We should at least let Mantis in on this, too. I mean, if she's gonna be hanging around us more, she should probably know to keep an eye out for this asshole.
no subject
The briefest hesitation, and then: ]
Mantis knows.
[ At least as much as she probably needs to, for the time being. ]
no subject
[ And he says it flatly, too incredulous to be angry – for now, anyway. ]
You're telling me I'm the only one who didn't know. And at no point did any of the three of you think, "Hey, maybe we should tell Quill about this."
no subject
(Because this isn't the only thing they haven't told Peter.) ]
It wasn't out of a conscious effort to keep it from you. She was upset, and she felt guilt for things she'd done while she served Ego. I was trying to reassure her, and she asked if Thanos was in stasis. I told her that he was.
That's all, Peter.
no subject
I can't believe you told Mantis before you told me.
[ And somehow, this is an even greater offense than Gamora not saying anything at all. Admittedly things have been— weird between the two of them, with the argument about the state of— them still hanging like a shadow, with all the shit that's happened, but he still figured Gamora would come to him with anything. Everything, really, if it was bothering her enough, and— ]
Mantis.
[ With no offense to Mantis, but— still. ]
no subject
[ And then when Peter did wake... ]
I had time to deal with finding Thanos, and there wasn't... an opportunity to discuss it after you were out of stasis.
[ Because she tried to talk about something serious with Peter then, and it had blown up in her face.
Maybe there had been a part of her concerned that Peter would have brushed aside her fears about what it meant that Thanos was present at all – or maybe he wouldn't have wanted to hear it at all.
Either way, she'd been avoiding the more sensitive topics since. ]
no subject
We could've been having lunch, and that would've been a good enough time.
[ He scrubs his face again, voicing his aggravated sigh. ]
Seriously. Mantis?
[ Sorry, Mantis, wherever you are. ]
