[Things are getting heated up in both Olympia and Wyver as the month goes on. Matt's been going back and forth between the two (and getting met with more and more contention), and can be found amongst each respective populace, usually in the middle of debates]

[And by middle of debates, I mean he's trying to mediate them. Rather than take one side or the other, Matt speaks passionately about keeping the peace (getting booed in the process), holding up the truce, and for Wyver and Olympia to trust each other. He's met with a lot of arguing from both sides, usually ganging up on him, and things get a little more heated from the populace's end as he insists that despite each faction's flaws and misgivings, the only way to work through it is together. The crowd's against him, but--- somehow, despite being blind, he notices your presence, a fellow refugee. Whether you're actively part of the belief or just passing by and have no desire to be roped into it, Matt calls out towards you in a loud, clear, voice:]

Excuse me! [Probably, he heard you walking or talking. Either way, he's dragging you into it] What do you think? Do you live here?

LAWYER II ► just like highschool debate;

[In Wyver, it looks like the debates are reaching the point of loud altercations and outright fisticuffs, especially to refugees who favor Olympia or any sort of Olympia defenders. And Matt, like usual, is in the thick of it. This time, though, his attempts to placate are doing nothing but riling up Wyvernians further, and when a passing Olympian and Wyvernian get into actual fist fight, the blind man, idiot that he is, tries to get in the thick of it]

Hold on, there's no need to--

[This doesn't work out so great for him. At once, one of the debaters is shoving aside, ripping away his cane. Matt can't exactly break out the Daredevil skillset in such a densely populated spot, so he's basically forced to take the hit -- he tries again to calm them down, and gets kicked and shoved to the ground for his trouble]

[You've got the bad -- or good, maybe -- luck of passing through around this time, and the pair of dark glasses clatter next to your feet while the cane rolls off to the side of you. And apparently, beating up a blind man was a perfect way to vent their frustrations, as they return to arguing while Matt fumbles on the ground for his things]

I'm so sorry --- [People keep walking by, not really caring that he's struggling on the ground and just stepping around him] Have you seen my glasses?

[You could help, or not.]

DAREDEVIL I ► more like daredumbass;

[In the open world, people are struggling in their own rights. Sure, they may not be facing Olympian or Wyvernian prejudice, in a sense, but they're open to attack in more than one sense and some of them are really struggling. So, a man in black scouts out, guiding the families, fending off attackers -- searching for medical supplies. You can catch him in the act in any of these scenarios and help or hinder him, or maybe you're out here for your own reasons and want nothing to do with this masked weirdo.]

[Regardless, the hostile wildlife chitters and shuffles around in the night, and a pack of Vlix see you and mark you as easy prey. Whether or not you need the help, this douchebag will suddenly flip in, punching one square in the beak then flipping it over to another one. He growls at you in what sounds like a bad Batman impression:]

It isn't safe. Get back to one of the cities.

DAREDEVIL II ► electric boogaloo;

[If you venture to the Edrathe Ruins, mount or no mount, you may notice you're not alone. A masked man in all black is making his way in, no torch, no nothing. How can he see? It's a mystery.]

[He seems to notice your presence just fine, on the other hand, as he holds up a hand to gesture for you to be quiet, as the faint rumbling starts up.]

Do you hear that? It's further away every time it starts.

[How spooky.]

[Majima's one of few people here who know his double life as Matt and Daredevil (admittedly, not by his choice), so Matt doesn't feel the need to keep up a pretense anymore. The man himself seems a little shady, but as far as Matt knows, he hasn't been into anything dangerous. So, while he isn't keen on using the mask for monetary gain, the fact of the matter is that, one, he needs money to live and he has zilch, two, tensions are rising between Wyver and Olympia and Matt does want to prevent an all out war, and three, he's not particularly fond of guns.]

[He has his doubts about the integrity of the Gilded Cage himself, but that's part of why he wants Majima along -- he has a feeling the other man will have good insight on how trustworthy these men are. So, here Matt is, decked in his vigilante outfit, dropping in on Majima as the two prepare to head out]

Ready? This isn't going to be easy.

[Just in case he wanted to back out]

[And here Matt was under the impression that checking out a crypt wouldn't involve narrowly avoiding death himself. Naive of him, probably, to take on this quest as Matt and not as Daredevil, but he'd been fully prepared to make use of his gifts, regardless. He had the black outfit bunched up at the bottom of his backpack, carefully hidden just in case anyone were to search him, and he headed to the crypt thinking he'd be alone--- again, foolish of him.]

[As it turns out, he wasn't the only one who agreed to do this. Miles Edgeworth, his Olympian roommate (who hadn't seen him in quite some time and might have wondered if he was dead, considering the plague and all), stepped into earshot and Matt stiffened a little in surprise. Still, being blind was useful here, maybe he could try to get past the prosecutor before he notices Matt's there.]

[He definitely tries. Awwwwkward]

[Okay, this time, he wasn't going to be caught off guard. Or bother doing it as himself. This time he'd accepted the quest as Daredevil, moron in a mask and all, and went straight into the crypt. Even if there was someone else here, he now had the mask to protect him and didn't have to hold back or obscure his identity. The black fabric did that well enough.]

[When he enters, he narrowly avoids an Indiana Jones styled dart trap thanks to his super senses, and jumps in between trip wires, landing squarely in the midst of.... well, actually, he couldn't tell. The maze was huge and encompassing and complicated, leaving it difficult for even Matt to tell where to go and how.]

[He did pick up om something, though -- footsteps, breathing, and a single heartbeat -- headed in his direction. Familiar, even]

Hello?

[He recognizes her heartbeat (Matt don't be a creep), but he waits for her to speak up before saying anything further]

Oh, don't...

[ He'd been skirting around the crowd for a reason. He'd been apart from it. He was going to escape completely unscathed, unharrassed, unbothered, which is ideal, since he's an Olympia resident in Wyver at the moment. And besides, he despises debates. Everyone gets so utterly dramatic, and not the fun delicious sort of drama, the annoying sort of drama.

So Byerly sighs, and he lies: ]

Yes, I do. A proud Wyverian. And I favor doing whatever the teeming masses are favoring, because sleeping bears ought to be let lie. [ And he bows to the teeming masses so gracefully that his indirect little insult scarcely raises more than a bit of grumbling. ]

[There's a joke about a member of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts being identified by her heartbeat in here somewhere, but I'm too tired to find it.]

Eh?

[...one moron in a mask meets another.

Haru had heard the scuffling of his movements as she progressed through the halls, one hand on the right wall as a precaution lest she lose her way, and had felt it prudent to investigate rather than being sneaked up on. He won't see her, but she's crouched down at the cover afforded by the next corner, peeking out as she would if she were going to ambush a Shadow.

He's not one, probably. His voice doesn't exactly sound familiar, but she also... doesn't get a bad vibe from him.

And he's clearly not a ghost.

She gets to her feet and takes a step forward.]

Hello. [Well, this is awkward.] Are you also here on a mission...?

[When he first noticed the Cage's postings one night on his way home from work, Majima immediately felt drawn to it. It looked like a taste of his old life, and for months now, Majima has wondered if that's something he can really move on from.

He does know he can't live without the thrill of a little violence, and the fight club doesn't always fill that need. The job doesn't have the burden of someone ordering him around, and it doesn't fuck with civilians. In fact, it keeps weapons out of the Guard's hands, and with the way people are acting at the borders, that sounds like a good thing.

When Matt approached him about it, that was the last nail in the coffin. A wannabe superhero being on the same side had to mean he was on the good side.

Right?

That doesn't stop him from nearly jumping out of his skin when Matt lands on the street next to him as he takes the back streets away from his apartment.]

Shit-- [He furrows his brow and drops his fists when he sees that black getup again.] What, didn't get the cape I sent you for Christmas?

[Unfortunately for Bylerly, he's been put in the hot spot. Somehow, uncannily, Matt seems to pick up on the fact that he's a refugee -- or maybe it's just dumb luck. Either way, while he can't fully blame the other man for his response, Matt is nothing if not doggedly stubborn. He definitely isn't interested in leaving sleeping bears asleep -- when those bears risk waking up and unleashing chaos.]

[So he's not going to let Byerly off the hook. Sorry, buddy]

Come on. You can't really want war, it'd hurt you and Wyver just as just as it'd hurt Olympia.

[Cue louder grumbles from the crowd, who would take being slyly insulted over this lawyer who clearly can't take a hint]

[ Byerly desperately - desperately wants to shrug and move on. Maybe, ta-ta! But this son-of-a-bitch is going to continue on like this, isn't he, and he's going to piss off the crowd and get himself torn to pieces. And he's - Oh, for fuck's sake, is he blind?

Who cares if he's blind? I should just leave stupidity to sort itself out...But - no. With reluctance that would be visible if certain people could see, By turns and plants his feet and tries to figure out what he needs to say to get this fool to shut up. ]

Quite right. I'm more of a lover than I am a fighter. Speaking of which - [ He's maybe overplaying the flirtation in his voice just a bit. ] What's your name?

Excuse me, excuse-

[A woman's voice gets louder as she pushes through the passersby, trying to get to the man on the ground. There's a slight oof as she gets bumped, before the toe of her shoe finally brushes his cane. She stoops down to pick it up, level with Matt.]

You alright?

[Claire's just passing by. She's got a basket on her arm with some assorted groceries visible--some bread, vegetables, things for a meal--but she does pause to see what's going on.

That was apparently her mistake because she's being called on. Claire's a confident woman, but no one likes being put on the spot in front of a crowd.]

Uh--I do live here, yes, but I'm not really politically minded.

[A bullshit excuse. She's been in so many wars and tried to pull strings that she can't be anything but, but she's not about to say so much aloud.]

Sorry.

[Miles hadn't expected this to be how he was going to spend this weekend. However, when he had overheard the call to retrieve some lost heirlooms he thought it would be a good chance to investigate further into the more nefarious sides of Olympia. Plus with the jobless stint in Wyver the extra silvers wouldn't hurt. Though wandering in on his own was probably not the wisest of decisions.

Presently, he was walking along the narrow pathway, using the light of his phone to navigate himself through. He hadn't noticed Matt right away, Miles had terrible night vision at the best of times but when Matt tries to sneak past, he spots him. His eyes narrow.]

Mr. Murdock?!

[This statement was said with the most incredulous intonation possible. He had a few questions. First, how did a blind man end up in this random crypt in the middle of the mountains? Second, he and Phoenix were really worried that he had perished with the onset of the illness that was going around.]

H-how on earth?

[ Sol hates getting involved in debates. Debates require too much goddamn energy and he'd rather spend that energy doing something useful like hunting or minding his own business. Those are much better things to focus on when tensions are this high. It keeps him from being dragged into situations just like this one.

Just... like... this one...

Right, so maybe his strategy didn't really work this time around. Just bad timing. Still, he's not about to step over a blind guy looking for his things. Sol bends down to pick up the sunglasses by his shoe. ]

Here.

[ He comes closer to hand it to the guy on the ground. ]

[He's just a guy in stupid outfits that likes beating on bad people. He doesn't consider himself a hero of any kind, certainly -- something he makes pretty clear with an immediate:]

I'm not a hero. [Even this job sits with him the wrong way, even if it is to prevent escalation and war. It's the first time he's ever donned the mask for anything other than beating on criminals or pure vigilante bullshit, even though this is kind of that]

[Anyway, he certainly makes an entrance, and he doesn't apologize for spooking Majima -- even though he should. What a jerk.]

And we have to move fast if we want to intercept them.

[No hi, hello, nothing.... he's ruder when he's daredeviling tbh]

[Yeah, it's been quite some time, hasn't it. He freezes up in place when Edgeworth, very predictably, catches him, and it's kind of comical the way he stops moving. He recovers quickly, however, and tries to brush past the subject]

Mr. Edgeworth. What are you doing here?

[Yeah, that's all he has to say... no explanation as to where he's been or what he's been doing. Helpful]

[She could try to jump him and rip off his mask, but it would not reveal a Persona, it would, instead, reveal a moron. As he expected, it is her, but it seems as though she's in some kind of costume. The fractured image of her he gets seems to suggest it, but he can't confirm one way or the other. What is she doing?]

I'm here to explore the ruins. [And it feels so wrong to don the mask for this, but, well, unfortunately Matt realizes that sometimes he has to actually, like, make money, before he can do things like live and eat and take on pro bono cases] On a mission, yes. I'm assuming that's why you're here.

[and that she's not just digging up bones for jollies]

So, surely, you can think of a few words to convince others to see things your way...? [Playing the blind card to con someone into doing what he wants (for... altruistic purposes, probably): classic Matt. He's got the other man's attention, at least.... just maybe not the kind of attention he was looking for]

[He's pretty good at trying to dodge the question, as well, Matt's noticing]

Matt Murdock, attorney at law.

[cue even louder groans and complaints from the crowd]

I'd really appreciate your help, Mister.... [And he's fishing for the name]

Just a little overwhelmed, is all.

[He keeps patting at the ground, trying to find it, and his posture relaxes a little as he touches it when she bends down with it]

Thank you so much. I don't know what I would have done if I lost this.

[When Will Matt Murdock Stop Being a Pain In Claire's Ass: an unfolding saga]

[Turns out, it's not today. He almost feels bad for involving her, considering she clearly doesn't want to draw attention to herself and he owes her big time, but he's hoping that her compassion will get through to the angry crowd. It seems like she'll need a little more coaxing, though]

It's not so much about the politics. I just think we'd all benefit from no war. Do you agree?

[And the hot seat is back to this poor woman]

[Too bad for Matt, heckling random people on the street did not work out for him very well. Matt's still down, fumbling around on the ground, when Sol bends out, and he raises his hand to feel around until he finds the sunglasses and takes them back]

Thank you, thank you so much.

[But there's one other thing---] I'm sorry to trouble you more, but did you see my cane? I, ah, I'm having a hard time...

[His other hand nearly gets stepped on because, as it turns out, no one but Sol is stopping or making much of an attempt to walk around him]

[There's no way a blind man can break into a science facility without raising way too many eyebrows, so he'd put on the mask to take this quest from Cree and to get the job done. He's not alone, either -- he recognizes the young man from the explosion and the gala, and there's a young woman, too. She seems young -- perhaps younger than she is, but he can't help being a little concerned. Taking on mercenary work as a vigilante still doesn't quite sit right, but he does feel a certain amount of responsibility for these two, to make sure they get in and out safety. It's less about the money, for him. He wants to know what kind of experiments went on and how he can prevent them from happening]

[Regardless, he's wearing all black and his face is obscured again -- and he's outside the laboratory with his two companions, speaking lowly and a little brusquely:]

I can get us in. But we'll have to be careful. And quiet.

[Is that possible]

[ Sol glances over to his side, pinpointing the location of the cane, before answering. ]

Yeah, leave it to me. Get up before you're trampled.

[ Because that's starting to seem like a very real outcome right now. Sol's words are less a suggestion and more a warning as he reaches down to grab Matt's shirt and heft him up. He'll get to the cane when he's sure the stranger isn't about to get run over by careless pedestrians. ]

[ Matt's an oddball. JJ understands that much from their previous transactions, but he knows that if nothing else, Matt seems to have something of a hero complex and that he'll make sure that no harm comes to the two of them. And honestly, in comparison to trawling through graves or trying to pick a fight with the Royal Guard, sneaking into the Nerd Factory doesn't seem as scary.

Plus, he looks so stylish in black. ]

Sure. [ JJ can whisper!! Give him some credit.

It's cute that Matt wants to look out for the pair of them at least, though JJ doesn't seem the least bit interested in that as he peers up the side of the building from where they're crouched out by the back. (There's a dumpster just a metre away, and it smells.) ]

We can probably get in one of those windows, eh?

Oh, I'm sure you would, mister. My help is better than gold.

[ Very good at dodging. And quite rude, too. It's amazing how much you can get accomplished by just trampling on social niceties (when you are someone who was born into immense privilege). ]

But good heavens - a lawyer. No wonder people are booing you. Say, what's the difference between a lawyer and a vampire?

[ It's always helpful to spark laughter. No one can be angry when they're really laughing. And even though the crowd's anger isn't at mob level yet - or even sub-mob level - By is exquisitely cognizant of how uncontrollably fury scorches the earth once it's been sparked.

Also, mocking lawyers is fun. ]

[ While one of the others is here for the money, she's more here for the information for herself and the spies she already worked with. Yeah, the money is a perk, but she definitely has personal interest in finding out about weapons here, who's responsible for them, etc... it's important for her to try and keep track of anyone that might be dangerous to the safety of the world. Not that'd she'd be revealing her own motivations for being here past the money.

Besides, she totally thought ahead and dressed appropriately for the occasion; her hair, makeup and clothes are completely different from her usual dramatic motif, simple and unnoticeable. At least if she is seen no one who had only seen her once would recognize her from afar.

She nods to acknowledge what Matt said and to agree with JJ, whispering: ] Maybe, if it's unlocked...

[ Now probably isn't an appropriate time to ask about the blindfold look, but she is super curious!! It's also super ironic to her that this little group has one blind person and one person with super sight, so it all balances out. ]

But is it a good idea for us all to go at the same time?

[One day, all the pieces will come together and she'll kick his ass. Or at the very least be very, very unhappy.]

Of course. We're not the ones that would benefit from a war. It's always the three or four people up top. A war comes, and we're going to be the ones bleeding and suffering the rations, the fear...

[War is a sensitive subject given how many she's experienced. She was always there, in the trenches, watching men die when they were beyond saving. It's not going to be much different here.]
