[ It's so cold at this time of night, he really doesn't care for it, and that much would be obvious by the sour look on his expression. His training has been going on without too much trouble, and this little outing was supposed to be a way to flex some problem solving muscles that he truthfully hadn't used in months. It's kind of exorcist-y, too, what with all the spiritual energy that wafted off this place.
Climbing the mountain to get here was a little harder than he expected, but now that they're at the mouth of the crypt, he can't help but immaturely wrinkle his face up and make a sound of disapproval. ]
It smells so frickin' old in there.
[ And he doesn't want to go in, is what he's implying. Not to mention that while he could sense the spirits that came from inside, he's witnessed first hand the lack of damage his abilities do to things without physical form. ]
What did you expect? It ain't like they got someone to spray air freshener around the place.
[Strictly speaking, this wasn't a test, but it kinda was. The harmless, low pressure kind, mostly to see just how much Rin had been slacking off. Hopefully it'd be a good way to boost his confidence and get him back to being able to draw Kurikara again, but that was being a bit optimistic.]
C'mon, it's not going to get any better by waitin' ten minutes.
[She had already gone through one crypt, and she had a vague idea of what to expect from this one. If they just took it slow, they would be fine. But if Rin doesn't get going, then Shura will happily give him a friendly boot to the butt to encourage him on.]
[ He'll follow her (begrudgingly) with a sigh, feeling creeped out already. Maybe it was his own senses that made him feel so uncomfortable in the presence of so much spiritual activity, but the energy just felt like it was humming, tangible and thick. ]
All we gotta do is take something from the inside, right?
[ His hands are clutching onto the strap across his chest, childishly looking around as if something's going to pop out at them any second. ]
[The air in the crypt is oppressive. The smell was one thing, but even someone who lacked the ability to see spirits would feel uncomfortable. It wasn't outright malevolent, but it edge too close to comfort.
But they needed silver to pay the rent, and this was better than trying to fight in the arena.]
Yeah, but keep an eye out. Whoever built these put in some nasty traps, and they're liable to go off if we're not careful
[Which might explain the ghost peering out at them from around the bend. Well, maybe he's peering. He's kinda missing most of his face...]
[ The lack of tact? As always, it is present in him. He breaks the eerie silence of the crypt by outright yelling, his loud voice echoing as he points at the ghoul - he could sense it from a mile away but it's a different thing to see it. Especially in the state that it's in, which only makes him grimace. ]
Uh - ain't ya gonna exorcise it?
[ He's aware of his lack of ability to get rid of those things, not to mention the last time he thought about fatal verses was Way Too Long Ago. ] Actually, if we keep exorcisin' every one we come across, we're gonna be in here all night...
[ Around the bend that that one was coming from, at least, he could sense tons of spirits. The ghastly presence warned him off like smoke. ]
[yes, rin, that one's real. Shura slows as they approach it, giving its face-hole a careful glance. What a nasty way to go.
But, uh, about that exorcising...]
Fatal verses don't work here. [A pause--should she tell him about the fact that she had experienced some of the same corruption Mephisto did?
Nah. Best not to worry him when he was already having issues of his own.]
They stick around pretty close to where they died and don't seem to cause any problems if left alone. They might take care of themselves if we find the treasure here.
[So did the guy die from a trap, or was he betrayed by a companion? It's hard to tell. There's an ominous feeling ahead, but there's no other way out. She'd just have to keep an eye out for something out of place.]
If you notice a few of them with the same injuries, then there's likely a trap nearby. They're kinda useful in that way.
[ Hmm, that's an interesting thought. He doesn't know if he'd be able to tune in that much to the shape of them from far away, but he could try. ]
Well, with that in mind, I guess we should keep our heads down...
[ The tone of his voice raises the slightest bit, as if he's asking if that's the correct assumption. He can't imagine what kind of trap would be laid that could cause these injuries, and he doesn't especially want to find out, but they don't have a choice. So, as carefully as someone brash like Rin can manage, when they get to the end of the corridor (after shooing away the spirit that had peered at them), he turns down the same place that the spirit from emerged from. ]
Okay, there's a lotta weird energy in here, so something is probably coming -
[ And of course, just as he says this, a loose brick he'd stepped on triggers the hurtling of maces from the sides of the walls, the sound startling him more before he can actually realize what's happening. ]
[Well, he's not entirely wrong. Good to see him using part of his brain before rushing off into trouble... If he could only keep that up after he regained his confidence!]
Coulda been a trap, coulda been someone not wantin' to share--
[She the loot, she meants to say, but she hears the click of something being set a half-second after Rin steps on the trigger. Her eyes widen, and she lets out a hiss.]
Crap--Rin, get down!
[So fine, he could regrow his foot, but his head was a pretty big deal. She has enough faith in him to drop down with her, so she doesn't waste time trying to pull him down. And it's loud when the maces hit the opposite walls. But it's not the sound of solid metal hitting bone, and that's a good sign? Probably??
She waits until the dust settles before she lifts her head, looking for Rin.]
Tch, I wasn't paying attention. You okay over there?
