Tea time. [Closed]
Who: Miles Edgeworth (
milesedgelord) & Venom (
poolhall_killer)
What: Tea date
When: January 29th
Where: Wyvernest
Warning(s): Gets NSFWish towards the end
[The venue was so much larger on the inside than it looked from the out. Despite the dragons, he has heard through the grapevines that the quality of the food was really good. Miles really wished that they had something close to a dog cafe. Times like this was when he missed his friendly little pomeranian the most. Pess was the only one he could really express himself to. What a good dog.
He was waiting for a new friend who was supposed to meet him and he had arrived early. It was nice to be able to take the time and make a social call. Miles was known for being reclusive but this stint was a bit much even for him. He had a decent impression of Venom from the gala, as well. Currently, he was relaxing at a table with a book in hand and a pot of black tea.
Miles was just about finished with the chapter he was reading when he felt a strong tug at his cravat. He ignored it at first, concentrating on his book, (This one was of the history of some of the Olympian nobility and their role in the Justice system.) The tug was harder this time, strong enough to pull his cravat clean off. He stood up almost knocking his tea over when a red dragon the size of a small dog fell off him, cravat in jaw and landed by his feet.]
Hey! Get back here with that!
[Miles moved forward in an attempt to catch the beast and instead successfully tripped over the small creature’s tail. He fell crashing into someone in full force. The dragon skittered past the both of them, with its prize in tow.]
Ngggoooh!! My apologies!

None needed. It appears you've been acquainting yourself with the main draw of the cafe. If you want, I can get back whatever was stolen.
[Because the dragons like to snatch things that don't belong to them.]
no subject
[He was slightly embarrassed with his companion catching him look so undignified. He brushed himself off and attempted to fix his collar that truthfully felt so very naked without his usual neckwear. He looked over to see the little red creature skitter up along a column, far too high for him to reach.]
I would hate for you to go through the trouble. I er, have a spare back home.
no subject
[Kind of late, but better that than never. Venom straightens out his own clothing once he knows Miles's balance is restored.]
It won't be any trouble at all. Allow me.
[Venom flicks his wrist and produces a billiard ball, offering it to the tiny dragon. It quickly makes a noise, dropping the cravat and nudging against the ball instead. He lowers the ball so the dragon can reach for it safely, all while snatching away the cravat and handing it back to his new friend.]
The dragons probably just wanted to play with you.
Also, I wanted to apologize if I kept you waiting.
no subject
[Miles accepts his cravat gratefully, it didn't seem too damaged, only covered in dragon saliva. He folded it and put it in his pocket to be washed later. He needed to do his laundry soon anyway.
Though he did question where Venom pulled that pool ball from. Did he just carry them around? He supposed it wasn't that strange, Miles carried around a custom miniature chess set in his briefcase.]
Oh. That makes sense. Most animals are playful when they are younger. My own dog used to act much the same when he was a pup.
And no, I haven't been waiting long at all. I hope its alright that I had ordered a pot of tea already, we can order some more if it's cooled. Did you prefer green or black teas?
no subject
[Including the dragon, who's now rolling the billiard ball around. It'll dissolve soon, but at least the tiny creature can get some fun out of it first.]
Either is fine with me. I'll drink just about any kind of tea.
[And for a moment, he misses his extensive tea collection from home. His small stash from John is dwindling, so he hopes he can find something comparable soon.]
How have you been? I've not seen you since the gala.
no subject
[Miles in the meantime managed to flag down the waiter, for a refill on the tea as well as another cup.]
The one I had ordered is a black, with some spicier notes. It really isn't terrible as far as tea goes. However, it is nice to meet another who appreciates tea. I'm afraid my housemate only drinks coffee or juice.
[Miles probably could have related to the feeling. He had his own special blend made that he kept stocked in the office. He was going to have to try and talk to suppliers to find something close.]
Ah yes...
[It had been a tough month, considering the time of year it was and the rather horrid complications he was facing with his best friend, but he wasn't going to share that with an acquaintance.]
Keeping busy, I've mostly been working as much as I can. Asides from that I've borrowed some cookbooks from the library and have been making attempts at teaching myself how to cook.
How about yourself?
no subject
[He really can't wait to try more of the food and tea here. Last time was rather fun, so this shouldn't be much different. As he listens to his companion, a small white dragon paws at Venom's leg. He gently pets its head as the other man continues.]
Cooking is very relaxing. I like it almost as much as baking.
I've been trying to stay busy, as well. Working at night and then medical courses right afterward is rather draining. Though I did have my first proper date, I guess.
[Is this a date? He doesn't know anymore.]
no subject
Here you are. I'm afraid you'll have to sugar and cream it yourself.
That is an admirable skill to have. What type of things do you like baking?
It is posing a bit of a challenge for me. I would hate to admit, that back home I was a bit spoiled and didn't really have to fend for myself all that often. I knew a few basic recipes but mostly was too busy with work to really learn.
That is wonderful to hear. I hope you find those courses to be fulfilling. But make certain to take the time out to take care of yourself as well. [He wasn't one to speak, considering the type of workaholic he was, but here they were.
Miles took a sip of his tea and gave a little bit of an awkward chuckle. He supposed it was nearing that time of year, where people were more prone to romanticism. He would also hate to admit that he himself was somehow, against his will to fall into that trap.
He fidgeted awkwardly before replying.]
That is also good to hear. I, unfortunately, am not that proficient in the customs that revolve around courtship. I hope that it had gone well and that you and your paramour had an enjoyable time together.
[Unfortunately Miles wouldn't know the answer to that question either.]
no subject
I'm learning how. My previous work had me up at all hours, and I slept very little.
[At least now his sleep has been more sound and less filled with nightmares. Instead he'll smile along with the chuckle, masking how the date ended.]
We did. We had lunch here, actually. Then we went to a show, had a nice talk afterwards, said our good nights...
[And he fades off almost deliberately. His attention returns to the menu, which seems to offer a different selection than before.]
no subject
[In all truth these practices were what was keeping Miles going right now. Sleep at exactly midnight, rise at six, Tea time, a walk outdoors during his lunch breaks at Simwe. In the evenings he went to a cafe or the markets to pour over new books. A routine to control what he could.]
Oh! Well I suppose you can recommend what is good here then, this is my first visit. The waiter had said they have a really good selection of sandwiches and desserts, I think that is what I'm leaning towards.
Please feel free to order whatever you like. This lunch is on me. [He was the one who invited Venom out after all.]
no subject
[So napping after work it is since non-Thesa medical classes are in the evening. Then throwing in some reading and cooking when he can.]
Ah, thank you. You've very kind.
[Along with their varied sandwiches, they had a tiny section about being careful if one decides to feed the dragons.]
Their soups are rather good. The second one is kind of like lentil soup but spicier. I might have that with half a sandwich.
no subject
[He waved off the compliment with a hand.]
That actually sounds wonderful, I think I'll have the same. Were you perhaps interested in sharing a slice of chocolate cake with me for dessert? I doubt I can finish one on my own.
[He called the waiter over to make an order for lunch at least. In the meantime, the red dragon from earlier had returned content in curling up by thier feet. He looked down at his feet before giving it a wan look.]
I suppose it wasn't enough that he ate my neckwear, now he has returned for more? Are they usually like this?
[In all truth, Miles wasn't certain of what to really talk about. He wasn't too fond of small talk and usually, when he went on lunches it was with work relations, his best friend or family. He stretched for another topic.]
I have noticed that people in Wyver had been a bit colder than the last time I have visited, is this something you've experienced as well?
no subject
[He'd seen another table get the cake before and they barely finished it. He sees the naughty dragon behaving itself near Miles's feet, and Venom can't help reaching down to scritch its chin.]
I like to think of them as a cross between a cat and a dog when they're this size. They enjoy attention and chase objects like dogs yet I've seen them reject conventional toys for non-toy items much like cats do. Such as your cravat from earlier.
[He won't admit it now but Venom's kind of getting a soft spot for dragons. They'd be the sole reason he'd go back to Wyver. Speaking of...]
I haven't gone back, yet. When we were allowed to return, I didn't really look back at Wyver. I have witnessed the opposite with a friend, recently.
no subject
Dragons didn't exist back where I'm from in a physical sense. It is so strange to think of them like cats or dogs... [He reached a tentative hand down towards the creature's head allowing it to sniff his fingers before petting it. There wasn't any fur but the dragon seemed to make a fairly pleased noise at the attention. He spoke to the creature.] Well, as long as I don't lose any more cravats, you can come sit here.
[Picking up his tea with his free hand he continued his conversation with Venom.]
Wyver was a little too wild for my tastes, [Especially with their rather lascivious celebrations. It was too much.] Olympia still feels closer to some of the places I've resided in back in Europe...
Would you mind elaborating? From what I could gather from the conversations throughout tensions seem to be high between both countries.
no subject
[The white one near Venom decides to hop onto his lap, and he gives it a reassuring pat.]
And no, I have no desire to do that here. I hate to admit how cute you are right now.
[As the dragon insists on more pets, Venom sighs.]
I definitely agree about Wyver as I require more structure and an urban setting. I'm not sure I could handle their lifestyle on a regular basis.
[Including the lascivious celebrations. Cough]
The tension is very high. I'm still not sure why, but my friend received a very cold welcome here. Apparently he did something that earned him favor with Wyver and the Olympians chastized him for it. I fear it might boil over very soon, and the tension will go beyond verbal.
no subject
They seem to like you quite a bit.
I can certainly agree on that. Adjusting to Olympia was already difficult, but Wyver is another step... I must admit that I'm not as used to running around on investigations as I was in my youth. Perhaps I have gotten softer in my age. [ That wasn't a thought he enjoyed, but he was debated not suited for some of the tasks he'd been put up against.]
It is to be expected as far as political divides go. But yes I also get the feeling that things are going to begin to boil over soon.
It was nice to see the collaboration between the two Kingdoms especially during the illness that was going on. But I fear in situations such as this, the only way two places like that can come together is a mutual crisis and now that that crisis is solved it'll probably step back to the same animosity as before.
[The waiter had arrived with their dishes, the dragons making small gurgles of delight at the smell of food.]
no subject
You don't seem all that old to me, but I can sympathize with getting softer over time. I wouldn't even be sitting here had I arrived when I was younger.
[Having tea and lunch with a prosecutor... with a dragon in his lap. A dragon who wants to partake in the food that's been served before being put down on the ground. Sorry little one.]
I feel it's best to keep a low profile in situations like these. Despite my past, I don't want more people to be hurt, or worse...
[He thinks of someone who was nearly lost to illness, only to bounce back. Someone who's gotten closer to Venom than anyone else.]
I wish they would put their differences aside and work together more often.
no subject
I am thirty-five, It's only downhill from this point forward I'm afraid, but I appreciate the compliment. I think I need to work on the matter. I hate feeling out of my league.
[He paused to taste the soup. It was a little spicier than he was accustomed to but good.]
I will certainly try and keep my head down, but I fear that I expect to be dragged into something stupid regardless. My childhood friend is here with me and he usually has a tendency to get involved in chaotic things. And I expect that I'll be thrown into it with him. [There was a small dry smile at the corner of his lips at the thought.] However, I do agree that limiting the damage done to as many people as possible is of the utmost importance.
Yes well, some common ground is needed for two opposing sides to meet. Its like court in a way. In the best scenario, both the defense and prosecution work in tandem to find out the truth of a situation. But they need to be willing to work collaboratively to that end. Otherwise, it ends up being nothing but one-upmanship, which is the sense I have been getting from the overall situation here.
no subject
["Living" being the operative on Venom's end. He's still young by others' standards as he's roughly in his early 20s, but he feels much older.]
To have a friendship last so long... and I assume that despite being thrown into the possible chaos along with him, you wouldn't have it any other way?
[That seems to be a common thread with long friendships. It sort of makes Venom envious as he's only made friends within the last year or so. Perhaps he too can have such a friendship soon.]
They let their egos get in the way solving any problems. Would it be childish of to me to say that I don't like politics?
[He pulls his hair back so he can partake in some soup.]
no subject
It was actually, that friend who had saved me and showed me the light. I would honestly die for him. So you are right in that assessment of it.
[Miles was surprised that the conversation had become so easy, he rarely opened up to people in general, and hardly ever about his own checkered past.]
The main lesson I had learned from it is that you can rise up from the ashes so to speak, and can be the man you strive to be now. In this moment. Find your Truth and follow it until the end.
[He had stopped eating and was fairly intense about the subject, making direct eye contact.]
Not at all, politics usually get in the way of the real work that needs to be done.
no subject
If you don't mind my asking, is your friend here, too?
[Perhaps Venom's met him before. But he words it quietly and carefully as to keep it discreet.
As he continues to eat on his end, he notes the intense stare right into his eyes.]
My organization had a hand in it many times back home, but I hated dealing with it. At first I almost reveled that we had such power, but in time, it became a burden on me.
no subject
Not at all, I was lucky enough to have.. er... had him travel here, with me. I admit I probably would have been lost if he were still... in the old country. He and another attorney reside with me. Though I'm the only prosecutor. I think there is a silly joke in there somewhere since we all are in the legal profession.
I see. Makes absolute sense for many organizations to try and influence what can. If you control the politics you have further influence over people. I'm glad you have had a change of heart, many people have a hard time letting go of power and control.
no subject
[He's only met one other here. He wonders if they know each other.]
At least I know where to go if I somehow end up getting in trouble.
[It shouldn't be an issue, though. Venom's always been good at laying low when he was an assassin. But having legal help nearby will be kept in mind.]
I've watched previous leaders let power go to their heads. I too am glad I didn't let it get to me in the end.
[And the next thing he knows, most of his food is gone. He sneaks a piece of bread to the dragons below them.]
no subject
If you need it, I'll introduce you to my flatmates.
[He had played defense once or twice in his life, and he had the option of switching over. However, there was more he could do to reign in corruption as a prosecutor at the time. If there was more good he could do by switching teams here then it was a path he would take when the time came.]
That's a good thing. It means that your values lie elsewhere.
[He wiped the corner of his mouth with a napkin, finishing up his meal as well.]
Shall we get some dessert then?
no subject
[It goes for both the introductions to flatmates and dessert. More for dessert as he intentionally saved room. The dragons seem to be happy with their bread as they've only left crumbs and are now curled together near their feet.]
If we manage to finish it, I believe some kind of exercise is in order. Would you care to take a stroll after this?

This whole thing is such an awkward mess. I'm laughing so hard.
Edgeworth needs to stop being so cute!
Sex talk makes him such an awkward bean. Venom is too sweet.
