( introlog #5 ) strangerer things
You have spent the last few days on Thesa Station, taking in the knowledge that your world is no more. Perhaps you've made some friends (or maybe an enemy or two). Either way, you aren't expected to spend all of your time on the Station. El Nysa needs you, after all, and you promised you'd help the planet thrive. Are you ready?
Submit an AC-eligible thread with a new character as a participant for 2 OLYMPIA REP POINTS OR 2 WYVER REP POINTS, respectively, HERE or HERE. THESA STATION
All refugees on the station are called to the hangar where a large-scale teleporter has been set up; everyone will be sent to the planet together. Simply step onto the space between the arrays and wait. Before they depart, all new refugees will be given a starter kit!
You may have heard about earlier technical difficulties, but don't worry. I promise everything is in perfect working order this time. I'd say I tested it myself, but since that's not exactly possible, you'll just have to trust me! (Please.) The older refugees will also be there to guide you to ensure no one is left confused... or behind. Make sure you wait for them — I've been detecting something odd so I'll be having them meet you at the landing site. Good luck, refugees! Not that you'll be needing it or anything... The arrays begin to hum and glow, quickly building into a brilliant wash of light. It creates a column that travels all the way from Thesa Station to the surface of El Nysa. With the night sky as a canvas, the beam can be seen all the way from Olympia and Wyver — a view that has the natives whispering of blessings. As a sudden but beautiful aurora splays across the sky, the refugees down on the planet receive a message asking them to travel to the landing site — and warning them to prepare for what may come of the strange readings Zasere's gotten from the teleport itself. ON A BEAM OF LIGHT ![]()
Traveling through the light leaves the impression of blinding starlight, a strange sense of weightlessness, and a disorienting moment of total sensory deprivation. The radiance of your teleport hangs bright in the sky above you, a shimmering aurora that reflects off the calm waters below, visible for miles all around.
You've landed on a peninsula to the east of the South Outpost. There's little here — scattered trees on spring-barren plains, with a few overgrown, dilapidated structures poking out of the brush. All is quiet save for the keening of animals and the gentle lapping of waves against the shore. This lonely desolation is hardly the bustling cities and vibrant cultures you were promised back on the station... BY CAMPFIRE'S GLOW. But waiting for you is a group of your predecessors, and with them, a veritable tent city, with portable stoves, coolers of food and drink, comfortable bedrolls, and cheerful rings of bonfires — all that you need to make merry of the night, courtesy of Overseer Voss, who has, thanks to his interest in blessed meteorological phenomena and refugees, decided to make a holy expedition of the affair. CLOSE ENCOUNTERS ![]()
Despite going off without hitch, the new refugees' arrival isn't entirely without incident. It seems that the "blessed" beam of light that brought the refugees down to El Nysa brought something else along with it — a sliver of the Storm. At least the beam was short enough that only a small fraction managed to squeeze through.
But it's enough to wreak a little havoc around the landing site and along the road back toward Olympia and Wyver — and even, for a few days, in the cities themselves. THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE. The Storm is an undeniably destructive force, and that's proven with this small sliver's effect as it ripples across the continent. While there's no visible sign of its presence, strange phenomena soon begin to appear, corresponding with Zasere's odd readings. DECISIONS, DECISIONS... ![]()
The time is coming to make a choice — perhaps not a permanent choice, but unless you want to spend the rest of your nights out under the stars, you'll need to pick which city you will initially spend your time in. On the horizon, you will see that people have arrived to help you make that decision...
A FORK IN THE ROAD. Refugees and the hyper-religious wishing to hear Voss speak are not the only ones out and about under the light of the aurora. Citizens of both Olympia and Wyver have flocked to a point on the road midway between the cities and where the refugees have appeared, and they all have the same goal in mind: convincing the newcomers who have just descended in the blessed light of Thesa to come to their city and not the other. You've chosen your path, refugee, but that doesn't necessarily make it a permanent one. Watch out for the strange effects of the Storm, which linger still in the two cities and everywhere in between for the next few days before dissipating just as mysteriously as they came, but otherwise enjoy the welcome and make yourself at home — after all, this is home now. Alisaie?!
[ It's so out of the blue that he's not prepared to see his sister get knocked over like that. But then with the rain, he's just ... kind of amused by it. It's mostly harmless, at least, so that makes it easier to make this joke. ]
By the Twelve ... [ Wait for it, crossing his arms and smiling. ] It suits you perfectly.
[ Grumpy sister gets a grumpy rain cloud. ]

her expression certainly matches though, her lower lip stuck out as she shoots a glare up toward her dear, sweet, doting brother. ]
Oh, shutup.
[ she says, elegantly, and gets to her feet at last, stepping out from beneath her friendly little cloud, and shaking herself off - right all over him!! ]

iii; DOUBLES UP!!
But she's come far from the girl she was back then, and he's fully aware of it. So while his protective brother feelings are strong, his recognition that she's grown is just as strong, if not stronger. He trusts in his sister — but he's also prepared to be here, should she need it. It's not exactly an easy feat to live through something like this twice.
So he turns to her, taking in her demeanor, and speaks in a sobering tone — it feels strange to remain quiet throughout this. ]
It feels almost as though this happened a dozen summers ago.
[ With how much has happened to them since then, and how far they've come in their respective lives. ]

alphinaud's voice shakes her from her reverie, and alisaie glances toward him briefly, her mouth tugging into a weary smile, before she's glancing back again, her eyes settling on their grandfather. ]

[Diana's enjoying the fire, really. It's a nice change of pace from many of the recent events, and she's glad to see some new people here... and one very familiar face.
She's a little surprised when Alisaie offers her the marshmallow. And for once, she actually doesn't know what's going on.
Look, she had an aristocratic upbringing, okay?] ...what's this for?
no subject
.. for eating, of course.
[ a warm smile splits her face. ]
After roasting it, naturally.

But in the next moment, it's like they have stepped into an entirely different place - an entirely different world, even. Finding himself in this strange chamber is jarring, and he nearly stumbles backwards in surprise, looking around wildly, his eyes landing on Alisaie and Alphinaud -
- and then Alisaie again, at his side, just as she had been before this vision swept them up. ]
Wh-what's - what's happening?
[ Where are they? And why is Alisaie here twice? What is that ethereal glow, that oppression feeling, that -
He realizes, then, that there is yet another figure that the twins face. Prompto recognizes him. He's seen his face in the stasis chamber, when Alisaie had taken him there to meet her grandsire.
Louisoix Leveilleur. ]

[ it's jarring, to be so suddenly surrounded by a fiercely realistic memory. everything is rendered perfectly, the walls and the floors, the unnatural glow, the heavy feeling all around them, even the scent in the air, sharp like machinery and earthy damp.
and most unnerving of all, the sight of herself before her, and her brother, and.. ]
Grandfather..

Krile is at once pleased to be among something that feels like "home" (realizing, of course, that subconsciously she knows what Allagan structures and composition are, even the like of which she has never seen before personally) and startled by the sight of both Alphinaud and Alisaie before her. For a long while she listens, and observes.
Some movement to her left reveals, at last, that there are two Alisaies here. Damn. She thought it was an Echo, or the conclusion to one long and very disconcerting nightmare. This, second, Alisaie is dressed as the one she remembers from arriving on a new world entirely.
Krile's footsteps do not sound of metal, quite, as she makes her slow way to Alisaie's side, still with an ear on the final words of Louisoix Leveilleur. She's not heard about this. No one has.]
What is happening here?
[Now she is close enough to ask it without raising her voice or startling Alisaie. It isn't about what is happening to them; she wants to know what it is they are seeing, what's happening to that set of twins and the shade of an old lost Archon.]

well. krile can certainly be trusted. exhaling softly, alisaie turns her eyes back to the scene, unwilling to take her eyes away from her loving grandfather's face for even a moment longer. ]

that includes Alisaie, all the way up to the point where she asks if he wants the marshmallow currently being offered. it takes a few seconds to realize she's even talking to him, and once he realizes that, he snaps his eyes from the fire to gaze between her and the sweet. ]
Hmmm. Got some graham crackers and chocolate to go with that? Not the same if you don't.

still, she knows who it is who sits beside her, someone she's going to need to get to know rather well, and besides, this is the first she's been out doing something useful in weeks. she's in a good mood. ]

let's go Twister puns, yay!
But anyway! Never to be deterred, Sorey’s out in this nonsense anyway, navigating the terrain against hurricane winds and the threat of torrential downpour until--
...was that a tent that just blew by?! Suuuure was, just like your average everyday tumbleweed. Wonders never cease. ]
W-whoa, hey!
[ And right next to it is--]
Alisaie! Are you alright?!
[ He didn’t see her topple, just finds her sitting in the dirt/mud, and looking pretty peeved about it. Of course, Sorey being Sorey, he busts right into that storm cloud’s temper tantrum, pulling... um, a book will have to do! from the pouch at his hip and splaying it over the top of their (now-too-close-together) heads in the world’s most pathetic attempt at an umbrella.
But hey, the kid means well, alright?]I really hope that wasn’t your tent...
[ Said in a tone that says, clearly: Condolences on your tent. ]

Oh, it was.

[Did you know that marshmallows were actually fairly popular in the early nineteen hundreds? Though what we think of as a modern-day marshmallow came around by 1850, it wasn't until 1900 that they were sold on a massive scale, rather than a confection made individually by sweets shops.
The narration mentions this only because it wants it clear that research was done, and that Rosalind's question comes from her own ignorance in normal matters like sweets, not anything else.
Anyway. She looks vaguely interested, peering down at the bag. Truth be told, she's not really one for all this, camping and what have you, but it'd be nice to get to know Alisaie that isn't simply via her beloved's sighed out compliments.]
no subject
[ she knows, it looks a little strange. alisaie's world is ye oldey too, but prompto has made it his mission to introduce her to all sorts of weird """modern""" foods, and alisaie's sweet tooth is legendary. ]

[As for her tent? He's speaking these words through a muzzle carefully clenched around it. It looks like he played fetch and brought it back to her.]
no subject
one, there's an enormous fox creature. two, it's.. helping her? shielding her from the worst of the rain with its many fluffy tails. it can also talk? and it has her tent??
all right, it's cool. it's not as if she hasn't met a few.. talking, sentient furballs in this place, and even at home, but it still takes her a moment to process it. her anger melts away into a wry smile. ]
A good thing, indeed.

[--of course, strange hobbies aside, Mephisto hasn't chosen Alisaie to bother at random. He recognizes her from the winter gala, after all -- the young woman Prompto announced his engagement to over the network. And any opportunity to mess with Prompto in some way was a good one!]
[It's totally not because he misses being pampered as a beloved pet doggy. Nope. Not at all. #whyishelikethis]
im already so glad..
Hello, little one. Hungry, are you?
[ look at him beg for the marshmallow, with a wag and a wee little bark!! it's too cute she's gonna die!! he even is the same color as the marshmallow... weh!!!!!

it's been a while since she saw her last and camping is a great way to reconnect with old friends. marshmallows are also perfect, they're mouthwatering and warm to eat on nice nights. ]

alisaie is surely tired from a long day spent traveling in questionable weather, but still her smile is bright; it's certainly been awhile, hasn't it? and lena has always been good, invigorating company. ]
