A. The Sanctuary

[Thanks to the efforts of Dr. Fraser and Dr. Watson, Venom's expanded his knowledge on anatomy, first aid, and some level of bedside manner. He furthered his training through field work, reading books, studying potions and salves to an extent, and finally learning his first healing spells. He'd come a long way from being an assassin and knowing only how to treat the most fleeting of wounds. It's almost like he's a proper healer now, hence his decision to change jobs.

Meaning it's time for him to step out of the shadows.

He went through hell and back trying to do the same for the Guild, but to do it for himself is weird. Though he had planned on telling 2cave that he was going to protect the town before the storm hit. Maybe he's taking the steps to do that in his new home. Or maybe he's just overthinking everything again as he's organizing books and herbs for the more experienced healers.

For those who know Venom, his hair's tied back, save for his bangs.]

Pardon me, but I'm rather new here. Would these dried petals go with the dried herbs or elsewhere?

B. Tea Break - somewhere outside

[Between organizing and restocking supplies, Venom catches a breather. He'll be outside by a large tree, having the tea he packed along with a light lunch of fruit and cheeses. And by light he means a healthy wedge of the Olympian equivalent to brie. Maybe if someone drops by he'll share it with them!]

C. Wildcard

[Dealer's choice here! Maybe spot him helping with cleaning, or possibly lending a hand in the kitchen. Anything to help him prove his worth at his new job.]

Part of it is intuition - failed intuition, granted. But then where I am from men don't really drink tea...

Really? Then we shall have to make something together. It has been a while since I have made a blend that wasn't just for myself...

They are missing out. Where I'm from, men like their tea just as much as coffee or other beverages.

[He used to make them both for Lord Zato, so he knows his coffee well.]

I would love to since I haven't had much of a chance to do so here. I've been buying tea bags after using up the stash that was given to me.

We shall do this, then. It would make a pleasant afternoon.

[a soft chuckle]

Well, that isn't wrong. But my first master was loath to be persuaded.

[lightly, taking a moment to straighten up one or two of the shelves and make sure he's happy with the state of the stockroom]

...you had a stash?

I did, yes. I worked with someone who was from my world but he was from the past. He gave me some tea from our country, and I used up the last bags from that stash recently.

[He should ask John again but he hasn't seen the older man recently.]

What kinds of tea do you prefer?

A little of everything - we always had a few different blends, and I made my own often, too.

We could experiment and see if we can make something close to the taste you are used to? Was it a black tea...?

It was black tea, but I'm open to trying just about any kind of tea. A personal favorite back home was my Ceylon blend. Then there was the hibiscus mint herb tea, and rose tea...

Rose tea is lovely. I'm not sure of the others you mentioned - save the black tea, of course - but I wonder if it might be something I'm familiar with just with a different name?

I shall have to try to be sure, of course...!

Of course. I found a few Olympian equivalents to my teas, but not all of them.

I suppose we'll just have to take a day and sample as many as we can.

[An extreme!!!11 tea date, if you will.]

Olympian tea is good as well, of course. There is a parlour I like, not far off the marketplace...

I believe I know which one you're talking about. I can easily spend all day there despite it being a small shop.

They would probably ask me to leave after trying so many teas.

Should you deplete their entire supply it might be a problem, but I can't imagine your spending time there being an issue - so long as you are paying!

[He chuckles. It's slowly becoming more natural and not awkward. Good work, Venom. You're becoming human.]

I do make it a point to buy something if I'm there for a long time. They were kind enough to let me sample what I desired.

[a fond smile. Linneus likes that laugh, and he brings them out of their little storeroom and into the gardens. It's wider, much less confined.]

I do tend to get lost in thought there myself - or sketching. With a small slice of cake as well, perhaps.

[When Venom was first brought on, he was given a short tour of the Sanctuary. He never got a full chance to explore their garden. It certainly is more expansive than he first thought.]

I didn't know you sketched. I'd like to see some of your work, if that's all right.

[Art was never one of Venom's strong suits. He'd always leaned towards cooking and his job.]

[but Venom works at the Sanctuary, now - they are his gardens, too.]

It was... more something to fill my time, at home. Flower studies and the like. But I can paint more of what I want, here, and it's good for my hands...

[there was a dip in the level of his sketching and painting, the stiffness and clumsiness of his hands as they healed made clear in the finer details. It has helped tremendously, though]

I shall show you, the next time I have my sketchbook on me.

[Ah, right. Venom didn't want to bring up any bad memories from a couple of months ago, so he nods.]

I'm glad to hear you're able to paint here. The landscape certainly begs to be drawn and painted.

[So many new plants to use, and not just for their potions. Venom's tempted to find a way to cook with them.]

[Venom didn't bring them up - but it's good, surely, if Linneus feels comfortable enough to do so?]

It does. And it helps me, with my studies - learning all of the new plants here, and how they're used. And I press them, too, one or two of the flowers and leaves...

Have you seen the kitchen gardens?

You press them?

[He vaguely recalls Lord Zato doing that every now and then, to record new plants that made it into his garden. He didn't know others did it.]

No!

[His eyes light up behind his hair.]

We'll have to visit those, too. I want to know what I can work with.

Mmm. It was one of those childhood things that got set aside for a time - one of the housekeepers showed me how with books, at first, and then one of the gardeners actually made me a flower press. But I was always interested in the gardens so I ended up taking cuttings again and pressing them...

[that visible brightening of Venom's expression has Linneus' own warming in kind]

The kitchens have their own plot, yes.

[there is overlap, between healing herbs and culinary ones, so both areas have common things that they grow. But the Sanctuary kitchens must also provide healthy food for their patients, so there is a decent variety of vegetables and even some fruits grown on-site as well.]

Would you like to see?

I wouldn't mind seeing those, either.

[If not to give him an idea of what Lord Zato used to do. Bring him closer while he's still sleeping.]

Yes, please!

[It makes sense to have healthier options for their patients. And Venom's been wanting to work on his cooking skills to go with his baking. He hasn't been this excited in... a while.]

You must remind me to show you.

[but for now, Linneus can show Venom to the kitchen gardens - he knows well all the best routes]

There's a shortcut, come...

[the healing garden and the kitchen garden are sectioned off from each other, with the flowers and herbs in each area scattered across different pots and raised beds. The sectioning likely not because of the chance of theft from one side or the other - after all, it is all the same Sanctuary - but Linneus supposes in the case of a blight or something similar, it helps contain the spread a little from plant to plant.

There's a little gate in the trellis, though, the latch so covered over with ivy it's a little difficult to spot; but Linneus knows well where it is and opens it up for Venom]

[Venom steps past the gate and into the garden.

And it's as beautiful as he imagined. The small rows of labeled fruits and vegetables, pots of herbs lined up and growing nicely. He's thinking of all the delicious meals he can prepare with this kind of arsenal.]

I can get lost in here, even if it's not terribly big.

[Linneus laughs lightly, closing the gate behind him]

I'm speaking for them, of course, but I'm sure they'd love to have you help in the kitchens as well - if that is something you'd be interested in?

I never got to hear what manner of things you enjoy cooking...

Well, I'm more versed in baking. I like creating my own breads and rolls as well as the occasional pastry. On the cooking end...

[He kneels down to examine what appears to be an eggplant.]

I'm trying to expand my knowledge, but I do like to roast vegetables and make sauces from scratch.

I think they do what they can to provide varied meals and ones that aren't too boring to eat.

[sick food can get repetitive and dull, but the Sanctuary's food always seems to be quite good.]

I think it is everyone's different talents that come together and make the Sanctuary what it is. Gardeners and cooks and healers... I'm starting to learn that there can be an overlap, and they're not all distinct and separate jobs.
