A. The Sanctuary

[Thanks to the efforts of Dr. Fraser and Dr. Watson, Venom's expanded his knowledge on anatomy, first aid, and some level of bedside manner. He furthered his training through field work, reading books, studying potions and salves to an extent, and finally learning his first healing spells. He'd come a long way from being an assassin and knowing only how to treat the most fleeting of wounds. It's almost like he's a proper healer now, hence his decision to change jobs.

Meaning it's time for him to step out of the shadows.

He went through hell and back trying to do the same for the Guild, but to do it for himself is weird. Though he had planned on telling 2cave that he was going to protect the town before the storm hit. Maybe he's taking the steps to do that in his new home. Or maybe he's just overthinking everything again as he's organizing books and herbs for the more experienced healers.

For those who know Venom, his hair's tied back, save for his bangs.]

Pardon me, but I'm rather new here. Would these dried petals go with the dried herbs or elsewhere?

B. Tea Break - somewhere outside

[Between organizing and restocking supplies, Venom catches a breather. He'll be outside by a large tree, having the tea he packed along with a light lunch of fruit and cheeses. And by light he means a healthy wedge of the Olympian equivalent to brie. Maybe if someone drops by he'll share it with them!]

C. Wildcard

[Dealer's choice here! Maybe spot him helping with cleaning, or possibly lending a hand in the kitchen. Anything to help him prove his worth at his new job.]

[There's something that's been bugging the former assassin for quite some time. While he appears to be settling in to his new role, there's still a void in his heart. He tried ignoring it as it's been present for years, ever since the initial death of Lord Zato. Yet it strangely remained empty after his revival, leaving Venom to believe that he was finally moving on, as much as he hated to admit it.

Then he came here, where he and an older attorney struck up a friendship that blossomed into more. But then Phoenix learned of his past, and things got even more complicated. Venom didn't want to divulge any more information if Phoenix was going to react the way he did before, but if he didn't vent to someone he would probably explode.

That's it. He has to do this. He can't go around bottling up his feelings like he always does. He's not an assassin anymore. There's no need to stay calm and professional even if he's not on the job. And... he likes Phoenix. He likes that the attorney doesn't hold back, that he speaks his mind, that he's passionate. Venom wished he could be more like that, but he'd settle for being on better terms.

After a long day at the Sanctuary, Venom picks up a small rose bush whose petals were deliberately pink, signifying admiration, friendship, appreciation. He'd considered other colors, but they came off as too forward, even if they were more accurate in what he desired. With the gift in hand, he travels to house 69, hoping the older man is home.

-knock knock-]

Phoenix Wright, if you're home, I wish to speak to you immediately.

[While Yu's break was more of the coffee variety, he hadn't met this person before. His curiosity got the better of him. This definitely wasn't a native, or at least he was pretty certain.]

Hello. I don't think we've met before. I'm Yu Narukami.

[As part of his recovery process, Miles had begun taking longer walks with Pess in order to try and rebuild his stamina. It was a process, still and the lack of sleep didn't help all that much, however, he was happy that he could make it out further each day.

He was walking close to the sanctuary as his furry companion rushed forward all of a sudden, perhaps at the smell of food to happily yap and greet Venom.]

Pess! Down.

[You are lucky Venom. You had managed to catch Pheonix's attention on one of his few days off.

Phoenix had been doing his best to keep himself as occupied as possible over the past month. Between helping the theater district out from time to time, to actively taking a stance on the political front in regards to actively involving the refugees within the country. And with his job at Shades Darker, still keeping a watchful eye over Miles as he recovered, and his trip in aiding the recent refugees, he had very little time for rest.

And yet, at the moment, he was home.

Sprawled out on the (yet another) new couch of his small apartment, Pheonix was surprised to startle awake from his nap only to hear the front door rasping. He was still groggy and somewhat confused. But sure enough, it got Pess to respond immediately. The small dog excitedly yipping away at the door and whatever interesting smell happened to be standing behind it.]

Coming! Coming I--

[He paused. His had just on the doorknob as he heard a familiar voice call out. Suddenly wondering what it was he of all people could want.

He cracked the door open slightly. Large eyes looking up at the taller man from the other side of the barrier; half to keep the dog back and half to keep his own guard up.]

Ah. Venom.

What are you doing here?

[What a sudden surprise. Especially after nearly a month of not hearing anything.]

Ah, hello there. I'm Venom. A pleasure to meet you.

[He stands to offer a handshake, and to move aside in case the other wants to sit down.]

I take it you work here, as well?

[The tiny bark catches Venom's attention, and all he sees is a big ball of fluff running towards him.

Is that Pess? It is Pess!

He can't help giving the little dog a pet as he looks up to see the owner.]

It's all right, my friend. He's done no harm, though he probably wants my food.

Goodness, He'd eat anything that he can get his grubby little paws on. Someday he's just going to be chubby and it won't all be fur.

[He was smiling though and gave the dog a stern parental look.]

Pess no begging, Come one leave Venom be.

I take it that you've been doing well?

I'm here to talk to you. May I come in?

[He holds out the bush, showing that he means no harm. But there's a very high chance all those invisible locks are still around him.]

Or we could talk like this the whole time. Whichever is more comfortable for you.

[The young assassin sounds a bit snippy, but in reality he's tired and wants to clear the air.]

I'm doing my best. I left Shades Darker recently and picked up work here at the Sanctuary. I figured it would be a better move now that I've learned healing magic.

[It's a minor spell, but he can save on supplies by curing cuts and bruises instantly.]

How have you been?

[He's still petting your dog because he can't resist such a cutie.]

That is wonderful news to hear. I'm glad you're moving closer to what you were wanting to do.

[He shifted slightly, smiling a bit at his attention hungry dog.]

I've been doing better, still trying to work my way up to building my stamina to what it was. I've recently started working again, Just a few days but I want to ease into doing it full time again.

Nice to meet you, Venom-san.

[He will sit down but...]

...actually no! I was just looking around actually. We haven't gotten to do that much with all the chaos that has been happening...but it has caught my interest.

[Venom doesn't mind the attention this time. Pess is too adorable and so happy! He gives the fluffy dog more pets, showing his way with animals.]

I'm glad. If you need someone to help with the therapy, I could come by and we can warm up together. I've been meaning to get back into a proper training routine.

There has been a considerable amount of chaos around here. Perhaps now it'll calm down for a bit.

[Probably not, but he can dream. At least the recent forum helped some, despite Venom's decision to stay off to the side.]

Hopefully your explorations will be fruitful. I just started here at the Sanctuary, myself. Before this I worked in the Red Light District.

[Pess happily stood on his hind legs and offered a few more kisses at the attention.]

I would like that very much actually. I was actually wondering if the Sanctuary offered something to help keep nightmares at bay. I think that is probably my largest hindered to being able to function normally.

[The dark circles under his eyes were that much more apparent. His skin was sallow still as well. It wasn’t as if the night terrors were all that new but it was harder to deal with it as a middle aged man than it was in his youth.]

Mind if I sit next to you?

[Phoenix was hesitant as he stared at Venom through the part in the door, taking a moment to walk things through in his head. He tried talking to Venom so many times now. Each time only grew more and more unsuccessful. Was this bound to follow the exact same pattern?

He sighed out, opening the door further and stepping aside allow Venom in.]

It's fine. It's not like you haven't been in here plenty of times before. Come on in.

[Watch out for the tiny fluff ball. Your ankles will be covered in slobbery kisses upon entry.]

You want anything to eat or drink? I have coffee, tea, and I baked up some almond cookies not too long ago.

[Is he really standing on his hind less? So adorable! Venom almost wants to pick him up!]

Nightmares...?

[They're probably caused by what he endured as a hostage. The young ex-assassin scoots over and offers the now-empty spot to Miles.]

Please.

I can ask one of my superiors to mix you something that can help you sleep. There's this one particular plant we use that works wonders.

[Venom doesn't mind the fluff ball at all. At this point he and Pess are very well acquainted. He kneels down to give the good boy a pet before placing his rose bush offering on a nearby table.]

...I didn't know you could bake.

[It's strange to have something like that in common. Venom never spoke about his ability to cook and bake, other than offer to make part of the meal for Dorian's gathering.]

Either way, I'll have some tea, please. I might be here a while.

[Phoenix may have tried talking to Venom, but Venom's not the type to let anyone in so easily. There's a better chance if the young assassin comes forward on his own.]

You're probably wondering why I want to talk now, after all that's occurred between us. It's rather obvious that because of my past, I don't trust easily, and I certainly didn't trust you after your outburst over my former profession. Can you blame me for cutting off contact?

[It hurt him to do so, but he's used to enduring pain.]

Ah— petals are put with the florals, not the herbals. But it’s near enough the same place; here...

[taking the jar from him, steering him toward the racks with a gentle hold on his arm]

How are you getting used to your duties here?

( Anders has been running himself ragged ever since he got a glimpse into his future. He's been eating, at least, since he doesn't want to worry his friends any more than he already has to, but it's obvious he hasn't been sleeping very well. His posture is slumped, eyes puffy and dark, as he looks over the cauldron he's been using to brew potions.

He's bottling them up, one by one, emptying the contents of the pot into little glass vials when he accidentally knocks one of them over. The red substance oozes all over the counter, causing Anders to get up frantically from his stool before any of it could spill onto his feathery coat. )

Damn it!

[He allows himself to be led by the lithe young man, placing the petals in their respective location.]

I'm faring all right, I think. This is far different than bar work.

[He can feel more relaxed as opposed to fail!flirting for more tips.]

I'm glad to see you're doing better.

[The shattering glass is enough to catch Venom's attention from his cataloging. He sees Anders out of the corner of his eye, cursing at spilling his potion. He grabs some clean rags before heading to his friend's workspace.]

Are you all right?

[He does a quick once over on his friend and makes sure he wasn't injured by the glass or the spilled contents.]

I'm on lighter duties, for the time being.

[he is a little torn on how he feels about that - he isn't sure how he will manage, getting back to things. But it will be good to be off his limited jobs and back to real work, and the others at the Sanctuary have been patient to him, and so kind...

His reach still isn't the best, though, so he's happy for Venom to put the jar back himself]

I can imagine it's quite different, yes...! But you do enjoy the work?

It's not bad at all. I rather enjoy sorting and learning about the items.

[And it's definitely more honest work than his previous lines of work. He doesn't have to worry about watching his back all the time.]

I hope to work my way up and help with the patients more once I've proven myself.

And if you need to take a break, I will cover your duties.

( There isn't a scratch or spill on him, but Anders is still cursing himself for being clumsy. For ruining a perfectly good potion and a perfectly good vial. He sighs, holding out his hands for Venom to see. )

I'm fine.

( He's glad Venom came with some rags. Anders will take care of the mess, clean it up while his co worker goes back to examining the clinic's stock. )

Could you put those potions away for me? They go back on the third shelf.

[Venom accepts the potions, noting how tired Anders looks as he goes to clean up the mess. He carefully places the potions on the third shelf with the others.]

I don't mean to pry, but how long have you been working today?

[It's like Anders has been working for days on end.]
