[ it's the middle of the day in the middle of the week, meaning it's been pretty slow at the local spa resort but luckily (?) for the workers here, lance has taken it upon himself to make enough noise to make up a full house. currently, he's excitedly (and dramatically, complete with voices and all) regaling the story of how he and jyn first met, while he, jyn, and rhys sit face-down along massage beds, getting all the kinks and tension worked out of their backs by some very polite, but also very buff men in bowties and speedos. (it's only weird if you make it weird, okay.) ]

[ lance shifts briefly in his spot, head perking up to glance at the back of rhys'. ]

Oh yeah, have you been yet?

[ he didn't really mind talking about how he'd gotten in way over his head, after all; any other occasion, and he might've been too embarrassed to talk about it, but considering it had led to him meeting jyn in such a cool way, how could he not talk about it? ]

It's, uh. It's pretty wild.

[ Which is to say that I DON'T THINK HE'S HAD ANY ADVENTURES YET by this point but if he has it's prrrrobably just dinner with Mercy and Anders that one time. SO THIS IS RHYS just trying to play it cool like a loser. ]

[ jyn snorts, entirely unladylike, but otherwise stays in place. if she's going to laze about, anyway, she might as well not move because of idle banter. ]

[ it's a good thing jyn decides to shift the topic of conversation onto something that would suitably distract him from wanting THE DEETS — himself.

he puffs up... or as much as he can when he's laying face-down, anyway. ]

Yeah! I'm part of the Royal Guard. [ he says it with such a flair that it may as well have been followed up with a i'm sure you've heard of us. ] You know... no big deal or anything, we're just going around protecting everyone.

[ IT'S SUCH A BIG DEAL, PLS PAT HIS BUTT. ]

But man...you know, Rhys thought so before but Lance really does remind him of himself when he was younger. All that swagger, that budding self-importance that's yet to turn into the smugness of a total asshole.

[ And yes he's teasing, but he's also trying to be nice and compliment Lance as well since it seems like a lot of responsibility for a kid. Because 19 is totally a kid now that he's 27.

Rhys lifts his head and turns to look over with a wry smirk. ]

I work in the marketplace with a couple of the merchants. Trading, selling, shipping...getting a feel for what makes money on this rock. The usual.

[ lance joining the guard makes sense, given the information he gave her on his home world. she thinks nothing of his age. her fight started when she was only a girl. she lifts her head, propping herself up on her elbows. ]

Rhys was the head of some business, for a little while.

[ a tiny fact she recalls, so rhys can talk himself up, too, even if he's near the bottom of the ladder presently. sometimes she's nice :') ]

But the royal guard is something else. Very noble, Lance. [ not necessarily a good thing, but she assumes lance will take it as a compliment, which is fine. he found his way into her soft spot. ]

[ casually — ] I'm just a courier. [ downplaying, in contrast to the boys. she carries unsavoury items, so mentioning her employer or bragging about her true job description seems counterintuitive to success in her, ah, chosen field. ]

[ he picks his head up too, glancing from rhys to jyn. (though, when he sees her lean up on her elbows, his face goes red, and he plunks his face back down again just in case he accidentally.. sees things he shouldn't. ah.) ]

That's way cool, you guys. [ and it isn't even in that haughty but obviously not as cool as my job kind of way. ] I used to do part-time in retail back home! And I had a paper route when I was younger, too. [ so like. obviously he can Relate. ]

Yep, it was pretty cool. Aaand then...ssstuff [ since he can't talk about universes ending around their Chippendales here ] happened and that all tanked. Hopefully I'll be able to turn something around here though. Retail sucks.

All those customers complaining and yelling when they don't get what they want... Eugh. Total nightmare.

Oh yeah? I've got a ton of boxes my boss wants to move to a new warehouse tomorrow, could use a hand with that.
