[ To anyone who knows Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter, this wedding has been a long time coming — almost too long. So perhaps it isn't surprising at all that once they finally got engaged, the ceremony fell into place fairly quickly. Neither of them are ones for much fuss so they've decided to have it up on the station so friends and guests can attend no matter where on the island they live. And while the exhibition hall on Thesa isn't the English countryside or a church in New York City, this day is still uniquely theirs and intrinsically tied to the life they've made here.

It's an intimate late afternoon ceremony with wide windows overlooking the vastness of space and its twinkling stars. Steve, in a sharp suit one might recognise from last December's holiday gala, has Bucky Barnes as his best man and Claire Fraser is there for Peggy as matron of honour — the first friend she made in this new world. With so many absent friends, the bride decides to walk herself down the short aisle and the wedding gown is an understated, elegant affair in satin with a touch of beaded lace, expertly tailored by Claire's own hands. When the bride and groom meet, Captain Kirk begins:

"Since the days of the first wooden vessels, all ship's masters have had one happy privilege. That of uniting two people in the bonds of matrimony. And so we are gathered here today with you, Margaret Elizabeth Carter, and you, Steven Grant Rogers, in the sight of your fellows..."

And once they are pronounced Mr and Mrs Rogers, the party can officially begin! There's a hodgepodge dinner buffet courtesy of the mess hall (and cake later, of course) so perhaps you're trying to decide where to start first; or maybe you've forgone the food for the self-service bar with wine, whiskey, and beer. (Champagne for the toast!) If tipple isn't to your tastes, then maybe the dancing is — it isn't big band swing music, but it's close enough, and you're attending the wedding of some golden oldies from the 1940s so there's sure to be someone cutting a rug. Or maybe you're taking a breather from all that and taking in the view of the stars and the planet below.

I'd tell you who wins the World Series, but I guess you guys don't care much about baseball.

[ "You guys" meaning the English. It's a stupid comment, to cover up how stupid he feels to be the one from the future, for once. ]

I prefer rugby.

[ the response is quick, dry. he doesn't seem to mind the stupid comment. ]

Soccer? [ He calls it soccer. ] The World Cup?

[ettersberg]

I have heard of football, yes.

[ but still. have you considered rugby?? ]

[deadthenred]

Football has an endzone.

[ And also, Americans are good at it. Unlike soccer. What is rugby? ]

[ettersberg]

I'm quite certain you are wrong about that.

[ ...

despite the words, nightingale doesn't actually care too much. ]

[deadthenred]

Nope. [ He's not gonna budge. But he breaks off, shaking his head— ]

God, this is a lot easier than time travel. [ Arguing about nothing, he means. Easier than talking about the war, too. Small talk, like a normal person. ]

[ettersberg]

[ far easier than talking about the war. ]

Do you have a great deal of experience with time travel?

[deadthenred]

No. [ He wasn't using the term very precisely. ] That kind of thing is above my paygrade. [ This is also not strictly true. But he feels like it ought to be— time travel gives him headaches. ]

But if I tell you France wins the World Cup, isn't it gonna cause all the futures to collapse?

[ Or the Nazis win. That one happens a lot. ]

[ettersberg]

I am no expert, [ far from it ] but given our current situation, I doubt that is a concern.

[ it appears none of their worlds have a future anymore, anyway. ]

[deadthenred]

Yeah, that line. [ His gaze moves around the room that the Natha must've built. ] But you're right, no one seems to worry about it.

[ Not the Natha, anyway, not when they were awake. ]

[ettersberg]

You think they should?

[deadthenred]

They don't care about our worlds. [ He shrugs. What can you do? But he can't help but feel there was something he could've done. Bucky just doesn't know what. ] So don't sweat the small stuff, right?

[ettersberg]

No, I don't suppose they do.

[ nightingale is all too familiar with guilt, but the storm? that is on a level far beyond anything he could have taken on, he thinks. perhaps if he hadn't been the last wizard of the uk, perhaps if the folly had been bustling with life still, something could have been done. ]

[deadthenred]

And getting our worlds back would probably take a whole mess of cosmic power. Time travel, or large-scale reality manipulation, or something. [ Things he cannot do by himself, but powers he knows exist. ]

Unless they're lyin'.

[ Unless they were lying. ]

[ettersberg]

You think that a genuine possibility?

[ even with all his magic, nightingale wouldn't have considered that possible. nothing on that scale can be achieved —and if it can, another question is whether it should be. what the side effects would be. ]

[deadthenred]

[ He nods. ]

It's happened once or twice, where I'm from.

[ Comics were a mistake. ]

[ettersberg]

I see.

[ he does not, in fact, see. ]

[deadthenred]

And some people think it's happened a load more times, just the superheroes and the villains all agreed to keep quiet about it.

[ettersberg]

That is somewhat concerning.
