Who: Peggy Carter (
revlon), Steve Rogers (
starspangle) & Various
What: The wedding!
When: Dec 1
Where: Thesa Station
Warning(s): N/A
[ To anyone who knows Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter, this wedding has been a long time coming β almost too long. So perhaps it isn't surprising at all that once they finally got engaged, the ceremony fell into place fairly quickly. Neither of them are ones for much fuss so they've decided to have it up on the station so friends and guests can attend no matter where on the island they live. And while the exhibition hall on Thesa isn't the English countryside or a church in New York City, this day is still uniquely theirs and intrinsically tied to the life they've made here.
It's an intimate late afternoon ceremony with wide windows overlooking the vastness of space and its twinkling stars. Steve, in a sharp suit one might recognise from last December's holiday gala, has Bucky Barnes as his best man and Claire Fraser is there for Peggy as matron of honour β the first friend she made in this new world. With so many absent friends, the bride decides to walk herself down the short aisle and the wedding gown is an understated, elegant affair in satin with a touch of beaded lace, expertly tailored by Claire's own hands. When the bride and groom meet, Captain Kirk begins:
Whatever your fancy, mingle and enjoy! ]

With so many absent friends, the bride decides to walk herself down the short aisle and the wedding gown is an understated, elegant affair in satin with a touch of beaded lace, expertly tailored by Claire's own hands. When the bride and groom meet, Captain Kirk begins:
"Since the days of the first wooden vessels, all ship's masters have had one happy privilege. That of uniting two people in the bonds of matrimony. And so we are gathered here today with you, Margaret Elizabeth Carter, and you, Steven Grant Rogers, in the sight of your fellows..."And once they are pronounced Mr and Mrs Rogers, the party can officially begin! There's a hodgepodge dinner buffet courtesy of the mess hall (and cake later, of course) so perhaps you're trying to decide where to start first; or maybe you've forgone the food for the self-service bar with wine, whiskey, and beer. (Champagne for the toast!) If tipple isn't to your tastes, then maybe the dancing is β it isn't big band swing music, but it's close enough, and you're attending the wedding of some golden oldies from the 1940s so there's sure to be someone cutting a rug. Or maybe you're taking a breather from all that and taking in the view of the stars and the planet below.
Whatever your fancy, mingle and enjoy! ]

He'd thought, once, long ago, that he would get married one day, because long ago that was the sort of thing that a person did. Now he isn't sure that he'll ever make it that far, or stand that still for long. Hell, he is back in this place, where nothing feels permanent. But Natasha taught him that things didn't need to last for them to matter. During the ceremony, he tries to notice every detail, to commit it to memory. Bucky glares at anyone who coughs. ]
// AT THE BAR
[ Like a good percentage of the guests, it isn't long before Bucky turns up at the bar, with his fingers on the whiskey. He's getting a drink for his date, too, so, he is pouring for at least two. If this raises some eyebrows, well, he can raise his too. ]
You want me to pour you one?
// Dancing
[ Bucky isn't usually much of a dancer, not since he was a kid, and so he sets himself up at the corner of the room, watching all the action, and not partaking. But despite his crossed arms, the music's just familiar enough that he taps a foot without realizing. ]
((ooc: feel free to use these prompts or pick a wildcardβ he'll be around at the party doing party things, trying to be a person, and eating cake. ))
dancing (but not dancing)
You know, [ she begins after a thoughtful sip, ] it isn't Tommy Dorsey, but it's not half bad. Your foot seems to like it, at least.

dancing, ofc
So she lets Bucky stay on the sidelines for a while as she dances by herself. She watches him though- smiling, enjoying the chance to put on a bit of a show. Nothing improper, of course, but she did intend to drag him out onto the dancefloor, and so she puts a touch of temptation into it, even if it's mostly in how she looks at him when she tosses her head.
But then his foot is tapping to the beat of the music and there's a touch of amusement to her voice, almost laughter as she slides up to him. Her hands on his arm as she looks up at him.]
Dance with me.

[ he isn't much of a drinker, but he does enjoy the occasional pint at a pub or a nightcap of good scotch. this isn't neither a pint nor a nightcap, but it's certainly the sort of occasion for a drink, isn't it? ]

If she isn't at Steve's side (their first dance is at eight o'clock on the dot), she's got a platter of hors d'oeuvres and being incredibly ladylike about eating as many as she can before being caught up in conversation β which she will happily do, and likely talk with her mouth full. She could be leaning against the wall and just watching the reception with an impossibly fond smile or, maybe later in the evening, she's ducked out of the exhibition hall to make her way to the stasis chamber. It isn't for any truly maudlin reason, beyond missing the people who could have made this night even better. Perhaps a little toast of champagne in there, too. For the ones who were there for the start of their story but not its happy ending. ]

He's happy and sociable, genuinely delighted for Peggy and Steve, and for an excuse for people to get together and breathe after all that weirdness. A drink or two but nothing crazy, and he'll go ahead and dance if someone's keen, though he's not out there by himself. On his best professional behavior, owing to having a role in the ceremony. In a way it's more relaxing than letting loose - this sort of thing is so specific to his life as an officer, and it's nice to get back to, if only for a little while. ]

It isn't long after she's had her dance with Steve and a breather at the edge of the room when she approaches him, settling in the empty chair next to him and arranging her skirt just so. ]

For the man himself, a small bottle, though with a small red bow of its own. After the ceremony, she waits until he's alone at a table at the edge of the dance floor and approaches with a soft smile. She'd still be stuck who-knows-where without his intervention and her thanks are in that bottle. Holding it out, she sets it down halfway between them as she joins him.]
For you. As a thank you. [Looking around, she makes an observation.] They look really happy.

this is a good reminder of the way life can be beautiful, the way it can surprise people, bring them together. ]
Have you officiated often? [ he asks jim while they're on the dance floor, a slower-paced song that allows for conversation. ]

[ #judging β but only slightly, mostly teasingly. (all gray, though? yikes.)
as promised, kathryn is here. she even resisted the urge to stand completely on ceremony and show up in uniform herself, but she wasn't the captain on duty here; he was. so while her combadge is still pinned to her chest, she's wearing something much more befitting a wedding. ]
You did a good job. It was a lovely ceremony, and I'm sure the newlyweds appreciate you doing this for them.
ota!!!
It's not difficult to find Claire drifting about after the ceremony, some snacks or a glass of whiskey in her hand, and eventually she's found by a window. Though she's more focused on the people in attendance than the beautiful, frightening view, watching with a small smile.
After so long awake in this world, she's allowed to be a little wistful during a wedding when she thinks no one is watching.]

Thought you might be ready for more.
[ A boozy peace offering, minus one for Bree. ]

Bucky Barnes | Marvel Cinematic Universe | OTA
He can't really feel much of the alcohol he's consumed, but he's had enough to bring a little bit of a buzz on and after the ceremony it's easy to find him eating his weight in catered food, knocking back a drink by the bar or stumbling off of the dance floor with whoever he's managed to grab for a dance during the latest song.
There's an optimism to him that's unheard of these days. It's something even Steve hasn't seen since before the War, but he grins at anyone he even half manages to make eye contact with and flirts with anyone who seems half-receptive. This wedding feels like a little piece of home and not what passes for it in 2016.
[ Feel free to handwave dancing, as I'd rather not thread out the actual dance. ]

Mostly Brianna is avoiding Claire even though they arrived together. Mostly because she still feels guilty for causing so much grief. Strife? Trouble. She realizes that for as many people as she's met, she still doesn't know all of these people who seem to know her mother so well.
She's sitting at a table, taking this all in with a glass of whiskey that she's been nursing for a while, not quite shy about introducing herself to anyone but also not sure who knows her because of her mother, or who knows about the very large mistake she made a few weeks ago. ]

Hi, [ he says, offering a hand as well as a friendly smile. ] Jim Kirk. I don't think we've met, officially.
[ He's been social but somewhat restrained, a semi-professional seriousness sticking to him out of respect for the institution, and the fact that he officiated. Still, he's cheerful. ]

He'll be by his wife's (boy, there's a word that feels surreal as hell) side for most of the evening, but if not, Steve can be found snacking on various eats, by the bar for a drink he can't get drunk off of, or hovering around the dance-floor. He'd had his first dance with Peggy and he'd been (surprisingly) coordinated the entire time - he might even be coerced into giving it another go, if asked.
Either way, feel free to greet the groom whose heart is a hundred times lighter than it's ever been. ]
