OPEN TO CR (and +1's, why not!!)

Who: Peggy Carter ([personal profile] revlon), Steve Rogers ([personal profile] starspangle) & Various
What: The wedding!
When: Dec 1
Where: Thesa Station
Warning(s): N/A

[ To anyone who knows Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter, this wedding has been a long time coming — almost too long. So perhaps it isn't surprising at all that once they finally got engaged, the ceremony fell into place fairly quickly. Neither of them are ones for much fuss so they've decided to have it up on the station so friends and guests can attend no matter where on the island they live. And while the exhibition hall on Thesa isn't the English countryside or a church in New York City, this day is still uniquely theirs and intrinsically tied to the life they've made here.

It's an intimate late afternoon ceremony with wide windows overlooking the vastness of space and its twinkling stars. Steve, in a sharp suit one might recognise from last December's holiday gala, has Bucky Barnes as his best man and Claire Fraser is there for Peggy as matron of honour — the first friend she made in this new world. With so many absent friends, the bride decides to walk herself down the short aisle and the wedding gown is an understated, elegant affair in satin with a touch of beaded lace, expertly tailored by Claire's own hands. When the bride and groom meet, Captain Kirk begins:

"Since the days of the first wooden vessels, all ship's masters have had one happy privilege. That of uniting two people in the bonds of matrimony. And so we are gathered here today with you, Margaret Elizabeth Carter, and you, Steven Grant Rogers, in the sight of your fellows..."
And once they are pronounced Mr and Mrs Rogers, the party can officially begin! There's a hodgepodge dinner buffet courtesy of the mess hall (and cake later, of course) so perhaps you're trying to decide where to start first; or maybe you've forgone the food for the self-service bar with wine, whiskey, and beer. (Champagne for the toast!) If tipple isn't to your tastes, then maybe the dancing is — it isn't big band swing music, but it's close enough, and you're attending the wedding of some golden oldies from the 1940s so there's sure to be someone cutting a rug. Or maybe you're taking a breather from all that and taking in the view of the stars and the planet below.

Whatever your fancy, mingle and enjoy! ]

[ Bucky swears it's a subconscious reaction that he licks his lips when he notices where Thomas is looking, however brief. He's not used to getting attention quite like that, not used o noticing it or even feeling this relaxed in the first place. ]

Okay, but you've got to forgive me if I do something embarrassing. A guy who hasn't been drunk in over half a century should get a free pass or two to catch up on lost time, right?

[ subconscious or not —it's distracting, causing a twinge of want to settle in thomas' chest. that isn't why he came over today, but here they are. ]

I'll endeavour not to hold anything against you.

[ Bucky laughs and does his level best not to think about the things he would want held against him. ]

Anything might be a blank check you don't want to write, 'cause I will take advantage of that.
ettersberg: (015.)

[personal profile] ettersberg 2019-01-05 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Will you?

[ for a moment, that's all thomas says, voice low —then he forces himself to snap out of it. to look away from bucky. ]

I'll amend it to "within reason", then.

Probably for the best. You seem too smart to get caught up in that kind of loophole.

[ And the thing is that Bucky's not really the kind of guy to take advantage of anyone. He really only pushes boundaries to gently rib the people he cares about. Maybe to flirt a little, even if it feels more like he's pushing his own boundaries than anyone else's right now. That's okay, though, because it feels really good to just let himself do that. ]
ettersberg: (015.)

[personal profile] ettersberg 2019-01-06 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I try to be.

[ that's what thomas settles on saying after a moment of considering would you have taken advantage, then? as a possible alternative. —but that seems a little too forward right now, even considering everything they've already done with and to one another. ]

Smarter than me, at least.

[ Bucky takes another sip of his drink and he's finally getting used to the taste. Even though he can't feel much of the alcohol, it still warms him a little. Maybe it's just the atmosphere of having a drink in hand, though, like some sort of social placebo. He's not sure it matters, because he feels pleasant enough. ]

I think I might be a little bit of a sucker sometimes.

[personal profile] ettersberg 2019-01-08 08:18 am (UTC)(link)
How so?

[ the question is quietly curious. bucky doesn't strike him as the type, precisely. ]

Answering questions like that, mosty.

[ Bucky's well aware that he's got a long history of being a sucker for a pretty face. Thomas is no exception, apparently, because Bucky's already boxing himself into a hole of his own making here. ]
ettersberg: (ᴀʀʀᴀɴɢᴇᴍᴇɴᴛs.)

[personal profile] ettersberg 2019-01-10 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Professional hazard, I suppose.

[ if bucky's boxing himself into a hole, thomas is surely in it with him. ]

Depends on what kind of professional you think I am.

[ He takes another drink to try to hide how much he's smiling, though. ]

[personal profile] ettersberg 2019-01-11 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I meant myself.

[ cops like asking questions, not answering them. the same held true for his time in the foreign office, really. ]

But if I had to venture a guess, I'd say you're still a soldier or something of the sort.
lednikovyy: CW (we'll laugh again)

[personal profile] lednikovyy 2019-01-12 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
[ Bucky shrugs, feeling a little somber about that answer. It's not like he wants to be a soldier anymore, but he can admit that in a lot of ways, he very much still operates like one. ]

I guess there are some things you never really walk away from, but no one's payin' me for it anymore.
ettersberg: (016.)

[personal profile] ettersberg 2019-01-12 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
[ thomas hasn't been a soldier for a long, long time —and yet, sometimes he still stands like one. it's not the same, but it's similar in some ways. ]

How would you describe yourself, given the opportunity?
lednikovyy: CW (Or just get in line)

[personal profile] lednikovyy 2019-01-13 07:31 am (UTC)(link)
A set of well-built arms for hire.

[ He grins. ]

I mostly do short jobs in personal security. Sometimes things that involve heavy lifting.
ettersberg: (015.)

[personal profile] ettersberg 2019-01-13 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
That seems admirable.

Does it? I always worked with my hands before the war. It's just easier now.

[ And back then, he hadn't had much of a choice, but now that he has more skills under his belt, he finds himself preferring the ones that don't involve hurting people and that are less likely to put him back in fugitive status. ]
ettersberg: (047.)

[personal profile] ettersberg 2019-01-15 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it is.

[ bucky could have chosen do to something else. to use the skills that involve hurting people. ]
