Ahah, I only look like I'm fairing better. I was actually discussing it with Annie here not too long ago, but, it really is quite a lot.

[It was still difficult to comprehend all it was they had gone through within that year. So many situations that would have never arisen within their own world. It was overwhelming.]

Really I'm just doing my best to take it one step at a time. Although part of me constantly feels like I should be doing more. What you've seen is only the beginning of it Annie.

[He paused, taking a moment to think of how heavy that statement was.]

None the less, all that can be put aside I think. We're here to enjoy ourselves after all. Perhaps we should stop skirting around the topic of why we're here Miles?

That's not exactly encouraging.

[Even as she says it, she's given in to a bit of a laugh, but then focuses on what else Phoenix is saying. Aware that it's going to likely fluster Miles, she gives the man a gentle look.]

Are we? Skirting around the topic. [She lifts her glass to take a drink.] Unless you wanted to-- [She motions with said glass.] -- discuss it openly in the restaurant.

[That look, Phoenix? It's all innocence.]

Really Phoenix. Do you want to discuss every filthy thing that comes across your mind unabashedly here?

[Picking up on Annie's cue, Miles could not resist an opportunity to tease him. He did shoot Annie a grateful look.]

Besides, we're here to enjoy a nice dinner, good company and to have some fun. Sounds fairly wholesome to me.

[... They're making fun of him. They're absolutely making fun of him! Those jerks!

How was it that out of all of them he was the one who ended up feeling his cheeks growing red in this sort of situation!?]

I--well-- I thought the whole reason was to meet up and talk about... Well, you know!

...What exactly is going to happen...

[Wasn't that the whole point to meeting up? How were they supposed to know what to do otherwise? What the limits were? What was good and what should be avoided? Was that not something? Was he wrong this whole time?

Needless to say, he was visibly flustered.]

I mean... If we were just eating... That is... Even so... The topic was fairly dreary... Right?

[Not 'making fun', Phoenix, but perhaps 'lightly teasing'... but only because he'd walked right into it.

The fact that he's flustered only adds to the endearing feelings that Annie's feeling and she reaches over to rest her hand on his in an attempt to calm him down. Leaning a little closer, she speaks in undertones for only their table to hear.]

Generally, when I decide that I'm going to have sex with someone, I don't plan the minutiae. [She tries to hide her grin now, sending Miles a wink.] I tend to let things happen, especially since there are three of us - [she motions around the table] - and I don't discuss my hard limits at the dinner table.

[She clears her throat and straightens as the server walks by, then adds nonchalantly:] But if there's something you're into, Nick, definitely let me know. I'll try to work it in.

[Business-like enough?]

[The man looked so dejected, that it was almost cute. Reaching down, he squeezed Phoenix's knee affectionately. though a slight blush came across him at Annie's teasing. He'll certainly try and keep his planning to a minimum.]

I'm certain we'll have the time to discuss things over... er... dessert.

[Thier orders had arrived at the table, and Miles lay down a napkin over his lap.]

For the time being, let's just enjoy dinner.

[He shifted slightly. How did one do small talk?]

Did I ever mention that Phoenix once cross-examined a parrot in the court of law?

[Work was usually a safe topic.]

Oh my god Miles do you have to tell everyone about that?

[Yeah. It looks like his embarrassment was going to see no end today. Slumping down in his chair with a bit of an over-dramatic sigh as he did his best to avert his eyes to the food in front of him.]

Besides, if I didn't think of actually doing it things would be quite different for us now, right?

[At least he wasn't bringing up the other animal he brought to the court.]

[Annie's reaction is delight; if she can discuss someone else's work mishaps, it's all the better for her, really.]

How do you cross-examine a parrot? Don't they just mimic what they hear?

[Honestly, she has to know this story. Tell her everything.]

[There were parts to this story that he wasn't going to get int at the moment, like the fact that he was the defendant in that particular case. But it was a rather amusing story to share with people. Mostly since it set president legally to cross-examine animals.]

Yes, and no. Polly the parrot did mimic what she heard, but the case he was working on he was trying to identify if her owner was the prime suspect in the case. The person he went up again was a veteran attorney, with a 40-year win streak. He suggested that Phoenix cross-examine the bird as a joke. He just took him up on the bluff.

[He laughed softly into his wine.]

You're truly amazing, Phoenix...

[A small blush came to his cheeks and spread to his ears as he listened to Miles take that ridiculous case and make it sound like something amazing. Of course, now that he was far more experienced in the field he knew there was so much that he could have done better. But hey... At least he was able to prove Miles innocent.

He will always be grateful for that bird.]

It was nothing really. Just remembered that it had a tendency to list the perpetrator's personal information due to his bad memory. I was just lucky it had something to do with the case.

[He fidgets, looking back up to Miles.]

Besides, are you really one to praise me? You've taken on quite a few amazing cases yourself, you know. Heck, you were the one who took over my case for me when I was hospitalized, despite the fact that you're a member of the prosecution.

I still owe you for that one.

[Watching the byplay between the two of them, Annie's very close to asking if they're sure they want to do this. It's clear that they're very much taken with each other - the smiles, the blushes, the soft laughter - and she's having brief second thoughts about intruding on that kind of relationship. Still, she points at Miles as he teases Phoenix, shaking her head as she does so as if to say, 'you're teasing to make him blush' because, well. He is.

When Phoenix goes on to explain, she's actually very interested and her expression shows it.]

You guys probably have stories for days. [She settles back in her seat to watch them both.] I hope I get a chance to hear more of them.

[And perhaps not necessarily in this setting. As a lead up to other things.]

Goodness Wright, You know that still wasn't technically legal or anything. But I'm happy to have helped. I think Franziska enjoyed trying to beat me in court as well so that was an extra win.

[He smiles softly, before turning to Annie.]

I hope we can get together and share stories more often. You'd be surprised how surreal the court system can be...

[Reaching over, he refilled his companion's wine glasses before pouring himself a new one.]

You said that you had traveled a lot, what are some of the crazier things you've experienced in your line of work?

Well it wasn't exactly illegal either. After all, you weren't necessarily working for the L.A. Prosecutors Office at the time of the incident so you weren't technically involved with the case until I asked you to take over for me.

If anything, we could just call you the 'temporary legal representative to Wright & Co. Law Offices' at that time.

[He offered a small smile with that, gladly taking his glass and sipping at it before turning his attention to Annie.]

Ah, right. You probably have traveled around just as much as Miles had. You do have any out-of-the-country experience during your time working? Ah, and now that I think about it, I wonder how similar our two worlds even were...

[She was really just enjoying watching their banter; it was obvious why they were together.

Phoenix' question is one she'd heard quite a bit, actually - the travel question, anyway - and she nodded her head as she answered.]

Miles and I already know there are some similarities, at least when it comes to movies. [She looked at the man in question for his confirmation.] He and I were stuck in a maze and it brought back a memory or two. Other than that, the Agency doesn't work on United States soil, so all of my work experiences are out of the country.

[Her smile is genuinely pleased.] That and I did a lot of traveling before I joined, too.

She's talking about the one with the baby, the pop star... And the muppets. We watched it as kids, with Larry I think?

[He squinted trying to remember.]

I cannot for the life of me remember the name of it.

[He chuckled.]

Best of both worlds I see. Which was your favorite country to visit in that case?

Oh my god how can you not remember the name of The Labyrinth? That movie's a cult classic Miles!

[Not going to lie, seeing Miles trying to figure it out to no avail had offended him a bit. How could this man be such a huge nerd and yet not recognize the movie with the most infamous crotch-bulge known to man?

... Was it weird that that was that part that stood out to him the most? That and the song that took place in the middle of a M.C. Escher painting...]

I know I was talking to a guy that had a lot of similar music to our world as well about a month ago. Or, at least a lot of the same older music. I've come to realize that just as many worlds can be identical as they can be different. People can also just be taken from all sorts of different time periods. I made friends with two guys at one point who both seemed to be my age, meanwhile one grew up in the seventies while the other guy grew up in the eighties.
