An appetizer. (aka Dinner)
It was strange to think that there was a time that he would have frequented fine dining establishments like this on a regular basis and something about being here now was nice and familiar. He made certain to tell both Annie and Phoenix about both the clothing requirements as well as the location of the restaurant.
He was dressed in a tux, as was required for entry, and shifted anxiously in the front entrance, trying to set that stubborn cowlick in the back of his head. He wanted this to go perfectly if he could help it.
He greeted his friends when he saw them approach.]
Hello.
I hope it wasn't too difficult to find, I heard that they have fairly decent food and better wine.

Nevertheless, when he informed her of the dress code, she found a cocktail dress that was appropriate - something very dark purple, bordering on black, with an asymmetrical neckline, a ruched waist, and a hem that hit something close to four inches above her knees. Her heels matched her dress close enough, and when she arrived at the restaurant, she cast a glance around once before she caught sight of Miles, tux and all.
Deep breath, she told herself before confident strides took her in that direction. Though he may appear nervous on the outside, she just has more practice keeping her apprehension hidden.]
I'm looking forward to it.
[And she was, she realized. The butterflies in her stomach weren't just from nerves.]

This sort of place... Wasn't it a bit much?
He shifted awkwardly as Annie approached. Doing his best to keep his own wandering eyes from being too apparent as she greeted Miles. It was surreal to think about but, it was really her, the same Annie he had met a month prior. To think Miles had befriended her around the same time as well...]
Hey. It's been a while.
[Calm yourself Phoenix. Sure she looked gorgeous. He couldn't imagine Miles to not find someone who was exceptionally beautiful. But the sheer knowledge of what this meeting was for mixed with how beautifully dressed she was had left him feeling slightly light-headed.
Despite how he felt he at least did his best to appear calm, reaching out for Annie's hand in greeting.]
Although I must say, I'm fairly amazed. I never expected Miles to have the gusto to actually go through with this, none the less chose someone we both already knew.
no subject
[She did look absolutely beautiful in it, and he appreciated her style quite a bit. He looked over to Phoenix and teased, with the ghost of a smile on his lips.]
You should know better than to doubt my conviction, Wright, I'll have you know that I have gusto in spades.
Yes, that was a somewhat pleasant surprise. I'm glad, this will give us a chance to get to know one another a bit better as well.
Shall we? I believe we have a reservation waiting.
[With that he held open the door for his companions.]
no subject
Of course, thank you.
[She leads the way into the restaurant and waits as they're seated.] I haven't been here before, but it looks nice. [Very nice.] Is there anything you recommend?
[Never this formal on a date, Annie feels like it's something that keeps both men grounded when they're feeling out of their element and it's something she can fall back on for them.]
no subject
[All of the work before he had taken on before his position at the coalition had alternated him between the Southern Outpost, the theater district and, surprisingly, the red light district. So, if anything, his coming to this restaurant was an extraordinarily new experience for him. And yet he seemed calm enough as he approached one of the small tables, taking a moment to pull out a chair for Annie.]
Although I must say, this is certainly to your taste isn't it Mr.Edgeworth?
[Oh? Was that a bit of playful snark to his tone?]
I hope you didn't spend your whole paycheck on this night.
no subject
The menu is prix fixe, so it should all hopefully work together.
[He flushed visibly at the comment. Did he go overboard? He knew there was a difference in lifestyle between him and Phoenix back home... but it had been over a year since he had been able to dine in such a place.]
Excuse me for wanting to go out to a semi-decent place. And no, I did not.
[He had put some money asides for months for occasional outings. It did cost more than a single paycheck but he didn't want to admit to that.]
Did you have any allergies that I should warn the staff over, Annie?
[Using her first name was a bit strange but if the night was going to go where it was there was no need to be formal.]
no subject
It's a very nice restaurant. [She looked over the menu before shaking her head, blonde curls moving gently around her face.] No. No allergies.
[Honestly, she's quite blessed that way. Very healthy, for the most part. When the server arrives, she has no problems placing her order.]
no subject
[Oh boy. That just went and proved how different both their lives had been before all of this hadn't it? He was truly amazed that with this sort of lifestyle being the norm for him that Miles met up with Phoenix to get fast food as often as he did.
None the less he decided to remain quiet with that, catching Annies gaze as an immediate signal to sternly 'shut up'. Taking his seat with a light sigh as he looked over the menu.]
Wow. They really have quite the varied menu. Should we start with drinks?
[He's just going to ignore the numbers that spatter the menu for today. If he doesn't see them they don't exist.]
no subject
Well, you are welcome to if you like. The sommelier will be recommending things that will pair well with our meal in any case. Though knowing you, you would want a red wine to pair with your red meat.
[He went ahead and made his order, before looking up at Annie.]
How has settling in been for you?
no subject
[She lifts a shoulder and gives a small laugh.] I still haven't found a steady place to live or work, but I'm making do.
How long have you both been here?
no subject
[He shook his head slightly. Even after all this time, it was hard to believe that some of the things that exist here.]
We've been here for a bit more than a year now? It's odd it feels like it was ages ago even though its only been a year.
I still am not used to some of it, Phoenix seems to be faring better though.
[He looked to his boyfriend with a smile.]
You always were resilient.
no subject
[It was still difficult to comprehend all it was they had gone through within that year. So many situations that would have never arisen within their own world. It was overwhelming.]
Really I'm just doing my best to take it one step at a time. Although part of me constantly feels like I should be doing more. What you've seen is only the beginning of it Annie.
[He paused, taking a moment to think of how heavy that statement was.]
None the less, all that can be put aside I think. We're here to enjoy ourselves after all. Perhaps we should stop skirting around the topic of why we're here Miles?

The main course.
Turning the key in the lock, he opened it to reveal a small studio apartment which was furnished with all the things they may need. A large bed, a nice bathroom and a small kitchen. He had also taken the liberty of buying a few necessities and organizing them on the bedside table. A bottle of lubricant, some condoms, a box of tissues, Champagne and three flute glasses.]
I hope this place is to your liking? I couldn't find anything bigger on such short notice. There are refreshments in the kitchen should we need and I'm happy to make a trip to the store should we need anything.
[It was obvious that he was nervous, and when he was nervous he had a tendency to overprepare for things.]
no subject
His nervousness was endearing and it was then that Annie felt like she had a responsibility to ensure that, even if he decided that this wasn't his thing, at least he didn't hate it (or her) by the time it was over. To that end, she reached out and slid a hand under his jacket, gently moving her fingers across his lower back as she passed him into the room.]
Miles. [She said his name with a 'shhh' silently attached.] It's perfect. [Her hand on his hip, she added:] If you want anything, just ask.
[Her eyes drifted to Phoenix and her expression softened even further.]
no subject
She really was all right with this huh? How surreal.]
Well, I suppose we're here.
[He sighed out a little with that, his shoulders growing slack as he attempted to relax. As much as he and Miles had spoken about this it still felt strange to know it was actually happening. A little awkward a well.]
I know we just had drinks before this but--
[Ah. Now that's an idea. And what better way to lighten the mood?]
I see there are more drinks? Shall I go pop this open? I feel with how classy we all look making a toast is practically necessary.
[In fact, he already seems to be walking past them and making his way towards where he presumed the kitchen was.]
no subject
I- I will.
[He looked up when Phoenix spoke, and nodded.]
Yes, that sounds like a good idea, please do. I think I may have left the corkscrew in the drawer in the bedside table.
[Along with a bottle of baffling bacon flavored lubricant that somehow ended up in their supplies?]
Should we sit down?
no subject
We can, though we'll eventually have to stand to undress.
[Her voice continues in the calm manner, and though she's holding one hand very loosely, she reaches up with the other to run her fingers over his cravat. Lifting her eyes to his, her gaze is meaningful when she speaks.] I didn't say it earlier and I should have. [Her heels give her an added advantage and she turns the tip of her nose extremely lightly against his jaw, lowering her voice so she's quieter than before.] You are so sexy.
no subject
But if no one else was going to bring it up he was not going to say anything either. Instead, making a b-line towards the bedside drawer to rummage for the corkscrew and eventually pulling open the fresh bottle of champagne with a satisfying pop.]
You know buttering him up like that is only going to turn him into a tomato. Not that it isn't fun seeing him get so flustered.
[Walking over he held out a half-filled glass for each of them. His eyes brushing over the sight of them both already getting close.]
But the last thing we want to do is intimidate him, this is all pretty new for him after all.
[Not that he was one to talk. Although he at least had experience under his belt, this situation as a whole new level for him.]
no subject
[His fingers closed against hers, noting how much smaller and softer her hands were in his. His eyes darted to meet hers, before moving away to glance at her lips instead. A bit of warm breath escaping him.] T-thank you.
I mean to say... You're quite sexy yourself. I can't stop looking at you.
[He smiled a bit as Phoenix approached with the champagne, taking a glass with his free hand.]
You missed the opportunity for a lobster joke somewhere there, I'm afraid, Phoenix. I thought your dad joke game was better than that.
But I'm no timid maiden. This is new. However, I'm here because I want to be.
What should we toast on?
no subject
Taking the glass, she held the stem carefully, watching as the bubbles rose in the liquid. A smile came to her face as she answered.] To solidifying friendships and trying new things.
[Really, it's what they were doing and she couldn't think of a better thing to toast. Tipping her glass at his, then at Phoenix, she drank half the champagne in her glass.]
One thing, before we get started. Well, two. The first-- [She glanced at Phoenix.] No matter what I'm doing, feel free to join in or touch me, too. I don't want you to feel left out. It's important. [She looked up at Miles.] And if you - either of you - feel uncomfortable or want anything to stop or even if you want something to continue... let me know. It's also important. Both of you.
no subject
[Perhaps for good reason, but he refused to acknowledge that himself. He never was much good when it came to taking himself into consideration of things. But as long as everyone enjoyed himself he knew he would be too.]
To opening ourselves up to new experiences one day at a time. And to every bit of our lives here to the fullest. Ah-- And probably most importantly, to enjoying time off to simply have some fun.
[With that he took a sip from his own glass. Exhaling as that sweet familiar bubbling flavor brushed along his tongue.]
Goodness you've always had a knack for selecting amazing drinks, Miles. You're going to have to show me where you found this some point later.
no subject
That goes for me as well. I know you tend to be focused on others' pleasure over your own. However, I won't have fun if you're not having fun, alright?
[He lifted the glass up towards the others, a somewhat coy smile darting at the corner of his lips, eyeing the both of them.]
...To lasting friendships and wanton debauchery.
[He then knocked sipped at the drink, he was impressed at the quality, it was better than he was hoping.]
Thank you. There is a small shop in the market district that has good drinks.
no subject
Reaching out, she took Phoenix's hand this time, hoping to pull him close as she slipped her other hand back around Miles' waist. Using Phoenix as an anchor, she tugged him close enough so he could hold Miles at the hip, but only if he held Annie between them. Ever so carefully, she brushed her lips against the corner of Miles' mouth, then kissed him tenderly, just to test the waters. She wanted his boyfriend close, just to let him know that everything was still his call.
A moment later, she pulled back. Not far, but enough to ask quietly:] You okay?
no subject
What happened next had taken him completely off guard. His eyes growing wide as Annie leaned in to kiss his boyfriend. It was a strange feeling to see someone make a move on Miles like that. It didn't make him feel upset or worried, but he did kind of feel like he was looking in on something he shouldn't have been. His mouth gaping slightly and his hand squeezing slightly at Annie's as he watched the scene unfold.
It was all so surreal. Perhaps that was the best way to describe it.]
... Woah.
[Was this Miles's first-time getting kissed by a girl? He couldn't recall him ever mentioning such an experience before.]
