This sort of place... Wasn't it a bit much?
He shifted awkwardly as Annie approached. Doing his best to keep his own wandering eyes from being too apparent as she greeted Miles. It was surreal to think about but, it was really her, the same Annie he had met a month prior. To think Miles had befriended her around the same time as well...]
Hey. It's been a while.
[Calm yourself Phoenix. Sure she looked gorgeous. He couldn't imagine Miles to not find someone who was exceptionally beautiful. But the sheer knowledge of what this meeting was for mixed with how beautifully dressed she was had left him feeling slightly light-headed.
Despite how he felt he at least did his best to appear calm, reaching out for Annie's hand in greeting.]
Although I must say, I'm fairly amazed. I never expected Miles to have the gusto to actually go through with this, none the less chose someone we both already knew.
no subject
[She did look absolutely beautiful in it, and he appreciated her style quite a bit. He looked over to Phoenix and teased, with the ghost of a smile on his lips.]
You should know better than to doubt my conviction, Wright, I'll have you know that I have gusto in spades.
Yes, that was a somewhat pleasant surprise. I'm glad, this will give us a chance to get to know one another a bit better as well.
Shall we? I believe we have a reservation waiting.
[With that he held open the door for his companions.]
no subject
Of course, thank you.
[She leads the way into the restaurant and waits as they're seated.] I haven't been here before, but it looks nice. [Very nice.] Is there anything you recommend?
[Never this formal on a date, Annie feels like it's something that keeps both men grounded when they're feeling out of their element and it's something she can fall back on for them.]
no subject
[All of the work before he had taken on before his position at the coalition had alternated him between the Southern Outpost, the theater district and, surprisingly, the red light district. So, if anything, his coming to this restaurant was an extraordinarily new experience for him. And yet he seemed calm enough as he approached one of the small tables, taking a moment to pull out a chair for Annie.]
Although I must say, this is certainly to your taste isn't it Mr.Edgeworth?
[Oh? Was that a bit of playful snark to his tone?]
I hope you didn't spend your whole paycheck on this night.
no subject
The menu is prix fixe, so it should all hopefully work together.
[He flushed visibly at the comment. Did he go overboard? He knew there was a difference in lifestyle between him and Phoenix back home... but it had been over a year since he had been able to dine in such a place.]
Excuse me for wanting to go out to a semi-decent place. And no, I did not.
[He had put some money asides for months for occasional outings. It did cost more than a single paycheck but he didn't want to admit to that.]
Did you have any allergies that I should warn the staff over, Annie?
[Using her first name was a bit strange but if the night was going to go where it was there was no need to be formal.]
no subject
It's a very nice restaurant. [She looked over the menu before shaking her head, blonde curls moving gently around her face.] No. No allergies.
[Honestly, she's quite blessed that way. Very healthy, for the most part. When the server arrives, she has no problems placing her order.]
no subject
[Oh boy. That just went and proved how different both their lives had been before all of this hadn't it? He was truly amazed that with this sort of lifestyle being the norm for him that Miles met up with Phoenix to get fast food as often as he did.
None the less he decided to remain quiet with that, catching Annies gaze as an immediate signal to sternly 'shut up'. Taking his seat with a light sigh as he looked over the menu.]
Wow. They really have quite the varied menu. Should we start with drinks?
[He's just going to ignore the numbers that spatter the menu for today. If he doesn't see them they don't exist.]
no subject
Well, you are welcome to if you like. The sommelier will be recommending things that will pair well with our meal in any case. Though knowing you, you would want a red wine to pair with your red meat.
[He went ahead and made his order, before looking up at Annie.]
How has settling in been for you?
no subject
[She lifts a shoulder and gives a small laugh.] I still haven't found a steady place to live or work, but I'm making do.
How long have you both been here?
no subject
[He shook his head slightly. Even after all this time, it was hard to believe that some of the things that exist here.]
We've been here for a bit more than a year now? It's odd it feels like it was ages ago even though its only been a year.
I still am not used to some of it, Phoenix seems to be faring better though.
[He looked to his boyfriend with a smile.]
You always were resilient.
no subject
[It was still difficult to comprehend all it was they had gone through within that year. So many situations that would have never arisen within their own world. It was overwhelming.]
Really I'm just doing my best to take it one step at a time. Although part of me constantly feels like I should be doing more. What you've seen is only the beginning of it Annie.
[He paused, taking a moment to think of how heavy that statement was.]
None the less, all that can be put aside I think. We're here to enjoy ourselves after all. Perhaps we should stop skirting around the topic of why we're here Miles?
no subject
[Even as she says it, she's given in to a bit of a laugh, but then focuses on what else Phoenix is saying. Aware that it's going to likely fluster Miles, she gives the man a gentle look.]
Are we? Skirting around the topic. [She lifts her glass to take a drink.] Unless you wanted to-- [She motions with said glass.] -- discuss it openly in the restaurant.
[That look, Phoenix? It's all innocence.]
no subject
How very shameless.
[Picking up on Annie's cue, Miles could not resist an opportunity to tease him. He did shoot Annie a grateful look.]
Besides, we're here to enjoy a nice dinner, good company and to have some fun. Sounds fairly wholesome to me.
no subject
How was it that out of all of them he was the one who ended up feeling his cheeks growing red in this sort of situation!?]
I--well-- I thought the whole reason was to meet up and talk about... Well, you know!
...What exactly is going to happen...
[Wasn't that the whole point to meeting up? How were they supposed to know what to do otherwise? What the limits were? What was good and what should be avoided? Was that not something? Was he wrong this whole time?
Needless to say, he was visibly flustered.]
I mean... If we were just eating... That is... Even so... The topic was fairly dreary... Right?
no subject
The fact that he's flustered only adds to the endearing feelings that Annie's feeling and she reaches over to rest her hand on his in an attempt to calm him down. Leaning a little closer, she speaks in undertones for only their table to hear.]
Generally, when I decide that I'm going to have sex with someone, I don't plan the minutiae. [She tries to hide her grin now, sending Miles a wink.] I tend to let things happen, especially since there are three of us - [she motions around the table] - and I don't discuss my hard limits at the dinner table.
[She clears her throat and straightens as the server walks by, then adds nonchalantly:] But if there's something you're into, Nick, definitely let me know. I'll try to work it in.
[Business-like enough?]
no subject
I'm certain we'll have the time to discuss things over... er... dessert.
[Thier orders had arrived at the table, and Miles lay down a napkin over his lap.]
For the time being, let's just enjoy dinner.
[He shifted slightly. How did one do small talk?]
Did I ever mention that Phoenix once cross-examined a parrot in the court of law?
[Work was usually a safe topic.]
no subject
[Yeah. It looks like his embarrassment was going to see no end today. Slumping down in his chair with a bit of an over-dramatic sigh as he did his best to avert his eyes to the food in front of him.]
Besides, if I didn't think of actually doing it things would be quite different for us now, right?
[At least he wasn't bringing up the other animal he brought to the court.]
no subject
How do you cross-examine a parrot? Don't they just mimic what they hear?
[Honestly, she has to know this story. Tell her everything.]
no subject
Yes, and no. Polly the parrot did mimic what she heard, but the case he was working on he was trying to identify if her owner was the prime suspect in the case. The person he went up again was a veteran attorney, with a 40-year win streak. He suggested that Phoenix cross-examine the bird as a joke. He just took him up on the bluff.
[He laughed softly into his wine.]
You're truly amazing, Phoenix...
no subject
He will always be grateful for that bird.]
It was nothing really. Just remembered that it had a tendency to list the perpetrator's personal information due to his bad memory. I was just lucky it had something to do with the case.
[He fidgets, looking back up to Miles.]
Besides, are you really one to praise me? You've taken on quite a few amazing cases yourself, you know. Heck, you were the one who took over my case for me when I was hospitalized, despite the fact that you're a member of the prosecution.
I still owe you for that one.
no subject
When Phoenix goes on to explain, she's actually very interested and her expression shows it.]
You guys probably have stories for days. [She settles back in her seat to watch them both.] I hope I get a chance to hear more of them.
[And perhaps not necessarily in this setting. As a lead up to other things.]
no subject
[He smiles softly, before turning to Annie.]
I hope we can get together and share stories more often. You'd be surprised how surreal the court system can be...
[Reaching over, he refilled his companion's wine glasses before pouring himself a new one.]
You said that you had traveled a lot, what are some of the crazier things you've experienced in your line of work?
no subject
If anything, we could just call you the 'temporary legal representative to Wright & Co. Law Offices' at that time.
[He offered a small smile with that, gladly taking his glass and sipping at it before turning his attention to Annie.]
Ah, right. You probably have traveled around just as much as Miles had. You do have any out-of-the-country experience during your time working? Ah, and now that I think about it, I wonder how similar our two worlds even were...
no subject
Phoenix' question is one she'd heard quite a bit, actually - the travel question, anyway - and she nodded her head as she answered.]
Miles and I already know there are some similarities, at least when it comes to movies. [She looked at the man in question for his confirmation.] He and I were stuck in a maze and it brought back a memory or two. Other than that, the Agency doesn't work on United States soil, so all of my work experiences are out of the country.
[Her smile is genuinely pleased.] That and I did a lot of traveling before I joined, too.
no subject
[He squinted trying to remember.]
I cannot for the life of me remember the name of it.
[He chuckled.]
Best of both worlds I see. Which was your favorite country to visit in that case?
