[ but Edmund already has a sword, so Bruce picks one up. He pauses only to show Edmund his particular grip is different. ]

[ Wanting to hit thins with a stick becomes a habit, after a while. ]
Shall we?
[ Edmund's posture is relaxed, not too overly confident, but he knows what he's doing and is willing to show it. More naturally inclined to broader strokes, a wider stance. He was taught by centaurs, after all. ]

[ Edmund is good. Better than he expected, and well-trained. ]
Not bad. Who taught you?
no subject
The question makes him smile. ]
Centaurs.
[ They taught him everything.
But of course, there are no centaurs in London, are there? As far as Edmund knows, anyway. ]
no subject
Maybe the better question was where you trained.

A world called Narnia. If you find the right door, you could get to it.
[ Not anymore, of course, but. ]

Only from London?
[ He's interested in the story, but he doesn't have to hear the whole of it right now. ]
no subject
[ The real answer is no, but that's not something Edmund himself is aware of just yet. What he knows is — Narnia opens its doors to those that need to be there, never more or less. Whether it's Aslan's magic or the Deep Magic at play doesn't matter, in the end. ]
No random doors leading to another world in Gotham City, is there?
no subject
[ A touch of wryness — he wouldn't be surprised if there were, honestly, doors leading to places no one speaks of. Missing people and children who fall into those gaps. No, Gotham is enough without them, and magic is something he has yet to understand much. ]
Another round?

[ While he would not hesitate upon doing the latter, he will not be as good as he is at wielding a sword. It's why he's here in the first place. ]
no subject
[ A test, and it's why he's here anyway. Bruce doesn't expect an amateur, but he wouldn't mind a quick learner either. ]
[ He demonstrates a stance, expecting Edmund to follow. ]
no subject
Though of course, there's room for improvement. ]
Did you learn this from someone?
no subject
Formal training. I was a bodyguard for almost twenty years.
[ Vigilante wouldn't stand out so much, amongst this crowd, but Bruce has everything of his tied in secrets. ]

Edmund mostly had to learn, so he doesn't have to worry about himself if he ever lacks for a weapon, so his movements mostly convey a knowledge of self-defense. ]
Your employer is quite lucky to have you.

So they all say.
[ He rolls a shoulder. ]
How often would you like to meet for sessions?
