His body practically moves on instinct as Slaine finds himself slipping into the living room, settling himself down on the empty couch. He's not sure why Shinjiro wants him to stay but he's sure he'll find out soon enough.]</sub>

[ okay maybe he could have phrased it a little more politely... but shinji isn't the epitome of manners. at least he's not planning on terrorizing the poor guy, so that's something?

slaine doesn't have to wait long. shinji appears in the living room a few minutes after with a warm bowl of soup. in his other hand is a small first aid kit. ]

You hungry?

[ maybe he should have asked if slaine has eaten... but the soup is kind of thin anyway, the kind that's easy to eat and digest. ]

_{[Shinji coming out with a bowl of soup...he wasn't expecting that. The surprise is evident on his face, attention diverted from the first aid kit in hand. Out his own hands go to take the bowl carefully, not wanting to spill it or knock the spoon in it over the edge.]}

I didn't eat yet today so...I am a little hungry.

It's not like he's wrong, Slaine is usually some level of miserable. Still, to have it pointed out so readily is a little jarring. What the hell are you doing? Good question. He's not really sure.]</sub>

You're not eating. You got yourself a black eye. You're just doing what I ask without questioning anything.

[ it's concerning... and it's out of shinji's character to worry about a stranger, but slaine is almost like a lost miserable puppy and he can't turn a blind eye to that. ]

Just doesn't look to me like you're takin' care of yourself.

I got caught in the middle of an altercation and took a fist to the eye from one of the parties involved. I also forget to eat sometimes.

_{[He lets his gaze fall to the surface of his soup, picking up the spoon to stir it absently.]}

As for doing as I'm told...it's kind of an ingrained habit.

[ because he'd be a hypocrite if he was... so this is hard. ]

Not when he'd lived in a constant state of anxiety and fear over being reprimanded for simply existing or stepping out of line. this feels a little awkward. he's not here to give life advice to anybody... but the worry is there nonetheless. ]

[ there are some doubts, but he doesn't question slaine further. finally a little more relaxed, he stands up to return to the kitchen. ]

Eat. I'll get you seconds when you're done with that.

<sub>[Nodding (because that's all he feels he can do at this point) Slaine raises the spoon to his lips to taste it. He makes sure to scoop up a noodle and piece of chicken, letting the broth wash over his tongue.

It's good. Comforting...even if chicken now makes him think of Count Saazbaum.]</sub>

I do, a lot. I haven't had chicken soup since I was on Earth a long time ago.
