[ Well, he doesn't sound thrilled, but he's swiftly learning that that may be Shinjiro's default state of being. ]

There aren't. Besides, this can barely be called modeling...

[ Given how poor Yusuke's form is right now (by his standards, anyway), Shinji may as well be standing in for a fruit bowl. He sighs as he plucks one of the brushes out from behind his ear, probably having forgotten about the other. ]

I can paint a more flattering portrait when I'm well, if you'd like.

[ Yusuke is usually a bit better mannered (or tries to be), but his paints and illness make for some extreme tunnel vision. He waves off the concern, poring over his canvas instead, blocking in some shapes with feverish intensity. ]

Nonsense. Any minute of my life could be spent on art.

[ He glances up, maybe to gauge something visually, maybe for conversation's sake. ]

There's no need for concern—it should only take a few hours.

[ That he'd entertain this completely ridiculous request for even an hour speaks volumes. Thanks, friend. ]

...Very well. [ He forgets the passage of time with these things; it wasn't unusual for him to wake up at his canvas after working through the night. But asking someone to sit around for more than an hour was probably excessive.

On that note... ]
You don't have anywhere else to be?

[ There's a moment where he looks at him—not really to draw, just a Look, a bit glum. ]

Your posture is horrific.

[ But it doesn't deter him, paintbrush traveling the canvas again before he can follow up with any real gripes. Maybe a deep slouch would better characterize Shinjiro anyway. Though for how he treats this whole task with such dispassion... he's still here, which is a surprise in itself. Yusuke's tone turns distracted, speaking his mind without thinking on what is proper and what isn't. A bad habit when he's ingrained in his work, but at least he doesn't step off with an insult. ]

I must admit, I wasn't expecting you to visit. [ Even in the face of all the Phantom Thief chatter, he didn't seem to want to talk much. ] It's kind of you to stop by.

[ It's an obvious, pointed redirection of the subject (a strange reaction to gratitude—if anything, it was a compliment), but Yusuke goes along with it, absently dipping his brush into more ink. ]

It can be. [ There's no sense in playing at machismo: frankly, he feels awful. He waits for his hand to steady before putting it to paper, though it takes longer than he'd like to suppress a shiver. ] But my failing health is all the more reason to paint while I can, is it not?

[ He takes the brief spikes of frenetic energy and channels them into his work, driving his focus into each sheet of paper he rushes to fill, frowning before he realizes it. ] If I'm too weak to pick up a brush tomorrow, then I will regret not having done so today.

[ wow excuse you he's a drama queen dying

Anyway, he'd chafe if someone any older were chastising him, but to hear it from one of his peers... Yusuke's brush pauses, which is a feat in and of itself, if only for a moment. He picks back up at the line he'd started, privately bemoaning how uneven it looks now. ]

Perhaps you're right. [ No, he definitely is. ] Still...

[ How does he put this in perspective. ] Are you familiar with Goya? A virtuoso of his time—he fell mysteriously ill and never quite recovered. And yet rather than retiring his easel, it only raised the curtain on a second era of his works... None of the greats have ever allowed their art to collapse before their bodies have.

[ That's probably not even true, and he's rambling, but in his fever he hardly notices or cares. ]

My point is, that is a risk I'll gladly take. Also, could you move a little to the right?
