aranea.
Every so often, he glances at his partner. There's something he's curious about and he's itching to know, and the childish part of him can't seem to wait any longer. ]
What's the craziest monster you've ever fought?
[ He's actually initiating small talk while they "work"!! Look at him, mom. ]
no subject
Uh. Hm. Quetzalcoatl wasn't too bad, but —
[ But, of course — ]
Actually, yeah. Immortalis — some giant ... magitek infantry — [ No, he won't know what that shit is. She stammers and clarifies: ] A giant metal worm. Trust me, a lot more deadly than it sounds.
no subject
These kinds of creatures don't exist in Remnant, but he wants to imagine it must have been tough to beat. ]
I'm guessing that's not a metaphor for someone whom you consider a worm.
[ He laughs at his own quip, finding it amusing. ]
Wonder what's in store for us here. No worms, hopefully. [ Qrow might be a bird but worms are still gross. ]
no subject
[ But she returns: ]
You?
[ There's a glare when he mentions the worm. ]
Don't make that into a thing — I trusted you in confidence!
no subject
[ The worm thing's just going to be the joke for the day. That was Qrow's plan, anyway. But now that he knows the worm could have swallowed an entie city, it seems pretty awful for it to be the subject of a joke now. Yeah, he's going to pass. ]
I've fought a lot of creatures. Guess a giant Nevermore was pretty crazy. [ He watches her if it'd spark something in her. Curiosity, perhaps. Qrow may have been a teacher back in the day, but he wasn't the best at explaining even then. ] The monsters in my world are called creatures of Grimm. They're soulless, and they take on the form of animals with ivory masks that have red and black marks on them.
We don't have metal Grimm worms.
[ Okay, never mind. He's going to make a thing out of it anyway. ]

[ SIGH. It was obvious that Aranea didn't mind too much — her weapon was still withdrawn, after all. But, she listens to him, eyes darting from the path into the brush to try and see if there was any signs of a crash. ]
So this is completely normal to you — what, the abundance of wildlife? What about nature taking over as much as it has down here? Gotta say, this is different than Wyver's general aesthetics.
[ I mean, Eos had its fair share... but she worried more of daemons than wildlife. ]
Ugh, shut up. [ And that's a punch to his arm. ]
no subject
[ It's not normal, Qrow means. Even he looks surprised that Aranea's even asking it. Does he look like he's out of touch with civlisation or something?
... Actually, he used to be. He didn't even know what a school uniform was until he was 17.
But where I grew up's close to this.
[ Then he's punched in the arm for his quip, which makes him chuckle. He shakes his head as he rolls his eyes, but he drops the topic as something catches his attention. He stops in his tracks, feeling rather suspicious of the whole thing. They'd been walking for some time now without encountering anything or anyone. ]
Something's close by.
[ Maybe it's the plant! ]
no subject
I see, I see. But, lemme guess — a big city called your name?
[ Once again: she asks. The topic can be cut off by Qrow's sudden inquiry on the surrounding area. She's not good at tracking, but she can see a few dirty mudprints leading off the path into the jungle. A shake of a tree in the distance soon after — ]
Then let's go. Maybe it's our vendor safe and sound.
[ HAHA.. ]
no subject
... It's when he stops that he decides to answer, but it's more of a passing one than something that might garner a reply. ]
No. I got tired of living with murderers and thieves.
[ So... YEAH. THAT'S TOTALLY POSITIVE.
He approaches the trail of foot prints, following each one slowly. ]
If the vendor's safe and sound, I doubt we'd get money. [ WAIT, that's a horrible thing to say. He realises his quickly and laughs, flapping a hand dismissively. ] Nevermind. You're right.
no subject
[ She doesn't push the issue - if he wanted out, he wanted out. There's no romanticizing that. She moves onto business as a footprint trail leads them off route. ]
Are you kidding me? If the vendor's safe, he'll be singing our praises. There's no way you don't show appreciation for getting your ass saved.
[ She's the first one into the brush, pulling back a few limbs so he can pass. ]
Plus, one less job for me to give out — one dead vendor means someone has to play fruit delivery.
no subject
[ That's all he'll say about it, though, because he's not going to complain about the circumstances. He's practically bumming on her couch. He's not going to whine about anything she does or says.
Maybe it's bad luck that they've gone this path, though. A few vines begin to slither on the ground, approaching both of them. Qrow hasn't detected them yet, but these crazy plants are coming. ]
no subject
Aranea isn't too focused on that — as always, she's looking up. The trees swayed but she felt no breeze against her neckline. There was something, big at that, moving through the jungle. She gets impatient. ]
Shit, it has to be nearby, c'mon —
[ She speaks almost with an enthusiasm unheard of, jogging ahead she oversteps the vines that snatch right at her ankles. Aranea hits the ground hard and with a tug, she' yanked into the brush with nothing more than a fuck! escaping past her lips.
Well.
Go save her, hero. ]
no subject
What the— [ His sword is immediately out, the gears in its machinery turning and clicking to activate the larger blade. It's when his sword is ready to go that Aranea's gone and he has to chase after her!! ]
Hey!
[ Qrow is quick on his feet, but he also encounters some vines that try to stop him from moving forward. It's easy to hack and slash, but a few seconds wasted is still crucial. While he's sure Aranea can hold her own in a fight (and more), he's pretty sure that hitting the ground like that did some damage. He's not going to rely on her this time—it's all him.
He receives some scratches from the branches he runs into as he tries to follow the trail, but it's quickly healed by his Aura. The only mark left on his person of the stress he's experiencing when he finally finds the giant plant that's holding her hostage is that his hair is pretty messed up now. But that's not important.
At the very least, the man-eating plant isn't eating her yet! ]
no subject
[ Her lance appears between her fingers, clutched tightly and sharp end slicing at the abundance of vines that lure her yards away. Her armor does well to shield her but she's unable to break free. By the time Qrow catches up, he sees Aranea hoisted up, hanging upside down in the trees. A giant venus flytrap-like creature rested against the trembling tree, the poor vendor they were looking for wrapped with vines. Aranea looks as if she was to be the next to join the fray.
But, even as she slashes and tries to tug away at the vines binding her ankles, she just calls out: ]
Just let me die. This is embarrassing as hell! Stupid, shitty — plant!
no subject
Is that what you're worried about? [ He calls out at her, moving quickly to the side as a tendril speeds up to him to capture him. It hits the ground just a few feet away, missing him. ] I gotta fight this thing on my own now!
[ THIS IS THE WORST... but he rushes forward as more tendrils come his way, cutting through them with his sword. He hasn't had much time to study the area yet, but he'll just wing it. He always does. ]
no subject
I'll get out — check the vendor — fuck!
[ A barbed fine shoots and wraps around her arm, keeping her from further slashing against the entangling grasp at her foot. The blood rushes to her head, but she pushes past it.
Honestly, Aranea cares less about the vendor but she had to get that out there. Heights were her friend, but as she's being positioned above the snapping, razorsharp maw of the beast below her, she's less than keen on it.
Qrow will find the flailing tendrils with thorns and the oozing toxic sap seeping from the sharpened snapping mouth of the plant to contend with.
Don't mind Aranea as she just continues wiggling, she slashes one or two vines clear off, but they're like a hydra - two take their place. ]
no subject
The number of vines and tendrils is alarming, though. He may be an experienced fighter, but even though he keeps getting rid of some, there just seem to be more. To him, it looks like the enemy is the body of the plant itself. These tendrils are nothing but distractions. ]
He's fine!
[ It was a quick glance, but the old man seemed fine. In pain, yes! But not dead! Releasing the vendor in a situation like this would only likely cause casualties. It's why he opts to get Aranea down first.
He throws his sword tens of feet away from him until it hits the plant's core, making it hiss in pain. This makes the tendrils and the vines holding both Aranea and the man to flail even more erratic than before. As for Qrow, he takes this as a signal to jump onto the blunt of his sword, clicking something on its handle to make the gears of it turn. Slowly, the blades of the sword expand, making it even longer until it curves. The handle turns a certain angle and more parts of it jut out.
With straight jump upwards, the blade of the sword-now-scythe cuts a part of the plant open. Upon releasing the blade from its body, Qrow spins with his weapon, cutting through what's keeping Aranea captive. (Dear god. I hate writing about the crazy RWBY weapons.) ]
no subject
Aranea will ensure he never tells anyone how a plant fucked her up this badly. The thorns slice into any exposed flesh she has, be it due to her high rising shirt bare arms — she finally feels the grip loosen when he gets his weapon involved this close. Her form takes a heavy fall, a thud as she catches herself. Her lance is a foot or so away, she scrambles up to pick it up and honestly? Lets him keep going slash crazy.
It's clear he's the victor in this.
So, she takes an aerial approach, using the power in her ankles and calves to leap all anime stile into the air. With a harsh downward throw, the lance impales the plant through the roof of its snapping mouth, causing it to flail uncontrollably.
Maybe it's almost dead? ]
no subject
While the plant itself can't move from one point to another, it seems it's still formidable in that it has a high tolerance for pain. At the very least, now that it's flailing uncontrollably, Qrow uses the chance to get the vendor to safety!
Well... as safe as possible. He carries the vendor up a tree and tells him to stay there for the time being, until the plant is dead. ]
You wanna do the honours?
[ Of killing it, he means. She might have something personal against the plant and all Qrow wants from it is money.
Their enemy may continue screeching and flailing, but doesn't look like it'll be putting up more of a fight now. ]
no subject
Aranea's too busy getting some revenge with that sweet javelin-like throw right into the creature's top. It's mouth was snapped shut, pinned now by the spear that rips into the plant. Her eyes focus on the vendor with Qrow doing a good enough job to save his life.
That's good. That's enough. ]
With pleasure.
[ The lance disappears into nothing and reappears within moments into her grasp, it takes all of a few short moments before she's back into the air, time keeping herself secured with her lance. Truthfully? She looks like she's poledancing a little. :/// With enough force to uproot a few bushes nearby, the lance drives down deep into the plant and turns it into green mush.
The impact is enough for her to stumble back, sighing heavily as she catches her breath. ]
Vendor alive?
no subject
At the mention of the vendor, he jumps up to the tree to get the man down. Once they're both safe on the ground, Aranea would probably notice that the vendor looks like he's about to cry. He can't seem to say anything, still shivering from the fear of almost getting eaten by a crazy plant. ]
... We should get out of here before another one shows up.
no subject
Last thing we need is a giant palm tree attacking us next. Yeah. I remember the way we came — got a nice view of it as I was getting dragged off.
[ She turns, kicking the stupid plant one last time before stomping off. Whether Qrow or the vendor follows her remains to be seen, but a shower is definitely calling her name.
Possible timeskip? ]
no subject
Qrow maintains some distance as they walk back to her apartment, not really interested in staying close. He wants to show some concern but he also doesn't want to make her think like he's babying her. It's why instead of sounding like some doting uncle, he offers a suggestion: ]
You up for a celebratory dinner? Guess it can be my treat.
[ Well, if she's not feeling sick or awful and after her shower, anyway... he also needs one, tbh. ]
no subject
Once the vendor was taken care of, she's going to definitely shower first. Well, that was the plan. She stops outside of the little apartment door, looking back at him. ]
Sounds like you're keen on me or you got some guilt about how that went down.
[ That she can observe. ]
But, won't turn it down. I'm starving. Just... no salads, alright?
no subject
It's— [ He looks away, feeling awkward. He shrugs his shoulders to try and break the tense atmosphere. ] It's nothing like that.
It's our first time working together, is all. Besides, this is a lot better than your heel being on my chest.
