❪ october plot conclusion; wyver takes ❫
THE END TO THE EPIDEMIC ![]() On the morning of November 3, there is a palpable buzz on the streets as both the natives of Wyver and Olympian refugees share the same sentiment: excitement. Word will quickly spread that a cure to VIOLET2710 has finally been developed and is ready for mass dissemination. Throughout the city, the cure can be found at any of the numerous small temples and outposts of the Altar of Volkkra. The shamans of Volkkra will happily distribute the cure to any of the ill in need of it, without restraint. A joint venture between both Olympia and Wyver, citizens of both are granted equal access. As the lines form, the shamans will ask that able-bodied persons administer the cure to themselves and to others. Don't let the needles scare you! It'll only hurt a little. At each of these outposts, signs will be posted giving credit to those who aided in the creation and manufacture of the cure:
As they distribute the cure, the shamans will note that those receiving the cure should give thanks to those named. Without their contributions, it may have taken much longer for the cure to be found and created in large enough quantities to save everyone. SHOULD I STAY OR SHOULD I GO? ![]() With Olympia and Wyver's fragile alliance still in effect and a cure to VIOLET2710 distributed, Olympia finally opens its gates once again to Refugees if they feel a little homesick. High-speed transportation will be available at record low costs as politicians, merchants, and other business owners desperately hurry home to salvage whatever they can from the terrorist attacks. Refugees are advised to remain in Wyver until food rations can be recovered and the water can be decontaminated. However, those more personally attached to Olympia may discover that the city is preparing a mass call for volunteers that will go out in the near future. In the meantime, and understandably, you should do what you can to help the Wyver people. The Dragon city has started posting quests, not only for you to do your part, but for the Wyver people to gauge your worth as visitors to their sacred land. Thesa also has an interest in the unfolding events. Refugees have now been exposed to both lands, and certainly some will find themselves more invested in one side than the other. Darma finally wakes from slumber to observe, and while she is thankful that Refugees are immersed in her world, there is something foreboding on the horizons. On the night of the 3rd, Darma will appear in your dreams for a conversation. It has been some time, Refugee... ah, no, certainly not for me. I am Darma. It is my hope that Sael as served you well in my place. The Natha do not feel, but I must express gratefulness that I am able to return to you. My greeting extends to both old and new faces. As we watch you, we see that this world and its people have begun to influence your hearts. In time, your loyalty to either of these lands, to Olympia or to Wyver, shall affect how you are seen by the other side. As observers, we are unable to provide either region a winning edge. Thus, once you pledge loyalty to one, you cannot use Thesa to teleport to the other. Choose wisely, or choose none at all. There is no war for those who do not wish to see it. For those who do... if I may be prudent— this alliance will not last. Keep your friends close, Refugee, for they may not remain so if your allegiances conflict. You will wake before you get a chance to reply. THE UNDERLYING PROBLEM IN THE UNDERGROWTH ![]() The locals often speak of a cursed place deep within Wyver territory, confounded by the spirits of dragons who passed long ago: those who still wish for vengeance on the people of Olympia for their untimely deaths. Though these stories began as nothing more than urban legends among the raiders and shamans, over time the idea has become mainstream. So much that the rumors have started causing unrest between the people of Wyver and their guests. More than a few people within Wyver have used these rumors as justification for opposing the current alliance with Olympia. Many Wyver locals see these rumors as a sign that their ancestors disapprove of the alliance. As a result, those in charge have decided that it would be prudent to mitigate some of the anxiety from either side. Those who are willing to look into these rumors further will find themselves lead towards the darkest parts of Wyver, deep within the Undergrowth in a region devoid of light. The faint of heart will be advised against delving further. ![]() This creature is able to camouflage itself perfectly to its environment. This, paired with darkness of the deep Undergrowth, makes this beast nearly impossible to detect with the naked eye. The creature also release a noxious gas that can spark a range of emotional responses: some may grow hysterical, while others may be consumed by despair. The effects only last for minutes, though some may linger in the back of one's mind for hours after. While the creature does not actually attack people directly, the other beasts of the Undergrowth may take advantage of its victims. Fortunately, Wyver is not looking for the creature's capture. They respect the delicate balance of the jungle as they see themselves as its protectors. For now, they only desire more information about this creature in order to assuage the people. Good luck and do your best to keep your wits! ALRIA'S FULL MOON ![]() While Olympians worship the ever-present light of Thesa, the people of Wyver are captivated by the smaller, yet ever-changing Alria. Alria cycles in and out of the night sky much like what denizens of Earth would remember as lunar phases, and those who are familiar with that may notice it is very similar to their own. And likewise, the creatures, men and women of Wyver are affected when Alria transitions into its full moon phase.
THE VOLKKRAN PACT AT NAMARAK SUMMIT ![]() Despite being mistaken for a pair, there is no need to take the shaman's advice. The necklace will disappear if the Pact isn't completed in a week's time. However, if the Pact's benefits might be something of interest to you and your partner, then you'll be advised to travel further south, until you reach Namarak Mountain. At the summit, you'll find an altar, where you and your partner are expected to return the necklaces and make a vow to support one another. The shaman there isn't particularly interested in what you do to complete the Pact. In fact, many people who attempt the Pact tend to... go a bit further than is necessary, when it can be achieved through a simple kiss between the partners. The Volkkran Pact's effects are immediate upon physical contact. Each Pact can be broken through a special process with the head Shaman, but there needs to be at least a month's time before one can sever it. The pairs may be fake and still receive the benefit of the Pact, though they may find that sharing power with someone they are not truly committed to is a mistake. NOTE: Players may be creative about what powers can be shared. The recipients of the such powers can never be granted its full strength, but it may be strengthened with Wyver REP rewards. Please note that PCs does not need to pledge allegiance to Wyver in order to keep the Volkkran Pact; they will only need 10 Wyver REP in order to strengthen it. Refer to the questions thread below if you have any questions. BUILD-A-BLADE WORKSHOP ![]() Sirod, the weapon's head shopkeeper, is interested in procuring a few materials for his clients. While these clients have already collected the claws of larger beasts and various other parts needed to create their new weapons, they are still missing some rare, necessary items. In particular, they are still missing the following: Those who retrieve any of these items will be rewarded 100 Silver. FINAL OOC NOTE
An AC-eligible thread for 2 WYVER REP POINTS may be submitted from this log. SUBMIT THE THREAD HERE by DEC 10th 11:59 PM EST.
We will no longer be providing overflow posts. In an event where the post hits CAPTCHA, players are advised to move threads to an overflow post on their character journals or create their own catch-all post. These threads remain eligible for AC, AC Rewards, and REP. 1 SILVER = 1 US DOLLAR. |

To begin with . . . you'd gain the ability travel great distances in the blink of an eye.
[She ticks these points off on her fingers, one-two-three.]
I'd imagine you'd gain a certain amount of resilience to add to whatever you may have here-- I assume you're not still functionally immortal, not if I'm not. But I should think with our powers combined we'd both gain a certain level of hardiness. And you'd . . .
[Mm. She's not sure about this, but whatever.]
--you'd gain the ability to occasionally predict the outcome of a choice.
Appealing enough to you?
no subject
But though his grin remains plastered on his face, he is taking note of the points she's making. They did cross his mind, as well, and given careful consideration... but that last part, however-]
A temporary sort of... omnipotence, then?
[Being able to teleport the same way as she does sounds... not nearly as impressive as whatever this is. He does look at her now.]
That would be favorable, yes. And yet you'd be harboring what I can only imagine are some of my more... daemonic powers. Some may consider that a burden, though I suppose that depends on the extent in which you'll control them.
Is that really what you want?
no subject
Given we can't say just how much of those powers I'd be receiving, nor how much of the drawbacks . . . tell me the flaws in having them. Beyond risk of being infected by that disease myself-- though if that occurred, I'd at least have the potential for a cure at my fingertips.
[Him, she means. He'd be able to heal her if her body reacted like a human's would.]
no subject
Well, I see the first issue already. You won't actually have a cure at your fingertips, despite what you believe. Secondly, the flaws in having them are that you'll feel it, like a constant living thing, thriving within you.
[To him, it's a burden. Maybe Rosalind will only receive a ghost of what he feels, but best to let her know ahead of time.]
Rely on them too much, and you may even appear physically different.
no subject
Can't you heal? And what do you mean, physically different?
[Is she gonna get golden eyes . . . i mean i know she won't but she doesn't, is she gonna get his weird hair color . . .]
no subject
[Oh, it's not a matter of if he can do it. It's simply that he won't ever, ever use his healing magic again. That is pulling him right back into his past, slingshotting him back thousands of years with one simple gesture. Why would he do that to himself? Who is worth him doing that to himself?
No one, as far as he's concerned.]
Physical changes as in... your eyes may turn a different color. Briefly. I can't be sure, given that I don't know exactly how my powers would manifest in you.
no subject
[To both those points. But frankly, eyes changing color isn't such a bad drawback; she could live with that, especially if it's temporary. And if the disease affects her . . .
Well. It likely won't. The percentages are with her, and though there's a risk involved, there's risk involved in everything. Do the potential rewards outweigh what might happen to her? Does she really want the extra power that badly?
Hmm . . . yes, she rather thinks so. Rosalind nods shortly.]
All right. Yes, Mr. Izunia, that is what I want.
[She extends her hand. They're gonna teleport at least part of the way there.]
no subject
But she's being bold. Accepting the risks, for the rewards are probably all too tempting for her. That's fine, and with her consent, he seems to have made up his mind on the matter as well.]
Then a pact it is. A deal of sorts.
[-he says it with a lopsided grin, and takes her hand to complete the gesture.]
no subject
[And before he can comment on that, they're off: twenty-five yards or so per jump, teleporting from spot to spot. It's exhausting, frankly, but far faster than walking. And though it takes them some time-- too much time, really-- sooner or later they're there.
And it's cold.
Of course it's cold, it's the top of a bloody mountain, but still Rosalind hisses in displeasure, her arms coming up to cross over her body as they stand before some kind of stupid looking temple. There's one of those shamans there, and more people than she expected around around doing . . .
Wow. Well. Turns out the full moon affects people even when it's really too cold to be indulging in that kind of activity, they're definitely going to get frostbite, but whatever!]
Good grief.
no subject
It is cold, or at least, it looks to be. Ardyn doesn't appear to react from the chill (Shiva's frost was probably ten times worse than this), and merely looks at her, raising a brow. If he were nice, he'd offer his coat, or at least his scarf.
...He's not very nice, but to be fair, it's not like they're far from the temple and the shaman. This should be over soon enough, and so he ignores her discomfort in favor of glancing around.]
That's certainly one way to keep each other warm. [Not even bothered. He moves forward, up the steps of the temple.] No ogling, Madam Lutece. You can gawk after we're done.
no subject
[Buddy . . . but she follows him into the temple, her teeth chattering, immensely relieved to be somewhere where at least the wind can't reach her.
It's not that difficult of a ceremony. Swear loyalty and support to one another, that's all well and good (even if she's still annoyed he hadn't bothered to offer her his coat, what an ass), but and seal it with a kiss is where she blinks.
But she won't raise a fuss. The benefits still outweigh the drawbacks, though she doesn't look too pleased as she faces him.]
no subject
But then they're apparently supposed to kiss. Ardyn raises a brow (though he isn't surprised, if this is supposed to be a marriage of sorts), and it is this expression that he meets her with when they face each other. How romantic.]
Why that face? Smile, my dear.
[Don't look so displeased that you're going to have to kiss him! If he were a more prideful man, he'd be hurt, but as it stands... Ardyn won't even give her time to respond. He leans forward and grants her a kiss on the lips. It isn't hesitant at all, though it certainly lacks anything at all shaped like affection.]
no subject
But he sweeps in and it's a decent enough kiss, as kisses go; his mouth is firm and he's pleasant to taste, and she's grateful he doesn't try and seek out more from it. And then that's it, they're done, and she feels . . .
Nothing much, really. She frowns as she glances down at her hands, a little annoyed there's no visible difference. Her eyes, he'd said, and she's just about to ask him if he'd a mirror in that other dimension of his when--
Oh. Oh, oh, and now she feels it. Rosalind inhales a shuddering breath, her head ducking down as she feels it coursing through her bloodstream. He hadn't been hyperbolic when he'd described it as a living thing; she shudders to feel it tearing and spitting through her, touching her from head to toe, flooding through her senses, screaming and shouting and yet at the same time only a shadow, not nearly enough to overcome her.
Rosalind exhales slowly. She tips her head up, meeting his gaze. Any hesitation or embarrassment over their kiss is gone; she looks at him steadily. And though she doesn't know it, for just a few seconds her sclera gone black as her pupils burn blue, just as brightly as a sun.]
no subject
Now? He just glances away, briefly, forcing that facetious look back onto his face.]
It’s a good look on you.
[He flexes his own hands, deciding to focus on something else. To see if his own body feels any different, though he cannot tell immediately if anything has changed.]
I hardly feel changed at all.
no subject
Mm . . . no, you wouldn't.
[She can still feel it screaming under her skin, but she forces her attention forward. (Is the chill lessened? Does she feel it less? Or is that just wishful thinking?)]
But try . . . try thinking of somewhere you want to be. It doesn't take effort. Simply think of how you want to be there, and go.
[But she takes his hand first, because don't zip off without her.]
no subject
[He could ask if she feels it writhing under her skin, but that face of hers answered the question for him ahead of time. He knows she can feel it, and he wonders how well she'll adapt to the feeling of it living within her, from here on out.
Regardless, he takes her hand, considering her words for a moment. Lifting a brow, it all sounds rather simple, though he'd rather not do anything too extreme if this is his first attempt. And so, without preamble, Ardyn closes his eyes, and thinks of a spot halfway down the mountain -- back the way they came.]
no subject
She really isn't as cold. How strange. Still, his hand is warm and she shan't give that up, not easily.]
Well done. A bit of practice and you'll master it soon enough. Just be certain not to fantasize too hard about a place, lest you accidentally zip your way to it.
no subject
This? This was far more sudden, simultaneously less jarring and more disorienting. He grips at her hand, somehow managing to not sway on his feet as they blink back into existence. Ardyn looks at Rosalind, anchoring himself in her presence. From his periphery alone, he can tell that they're further down the mountain now.
He gives a laugh that almost sounds like a disbelieving sort of scoff. He feels oddly tired from just doing it the one time, and it's an almost alien kind of sensation to him these days. And yet it's almost exhilarating in its own way.]
And has that happened to you before?
no subject
[She glances up at him, though, mildly amused and intrigued by the way he balks and grips her hand.]
Don't tell me that was such a shock to you. I know you've teleported before.
[And how's that, then?]
no subject
They're not the same. I can feel movement and the flow of magic when I warp from place to place. This is simply... being in a new location almost immediately. Can you blame a man for finding it novel? [Not shocking. Novel.] And I'm not even nauseous. How delightful.
no subject
Do you ordinarily get sick?
[Still: there's something pleasing about the way he's talking. There's something tremendously self-satisfying about being able to show a man two thousand years old something new, and she wonders how long it's been since that happened.]
You can make it work to your favor, too. Robert and I used to disappear with the light flickering, or lightning flashing-- far more intimidating than simply up and disappearing.
no subject
A long time ago, when learning how to control my magic. No longer, however, but you can guess why I might've thought the same would have applied in this instance.
[Or maybe he's immune to it; if something like pain has been dulled for him, why not motion sickness as well?
At that last part, though, he actually laughs in amusement.]
Far more dramatic, you mean. I didn't know you were the theatrical type.
no subject
I have my indulgences, just as anyone does.
[But she turns, facing him properly. Still holding his hand, she exhales softly, closing her eyes to focus. This doesn't come as easily as it used to, but it's just a matter of-- of teleporting and yet not, so you end up flickering, blinking in and out.
It's evening already in the mountains. The full moon shines down bright on them, bouncing off the snow and giving everything an eerie blue glow. But there's fir trees dotted around them, and the wind whips through them, making the shadows dance wildly over them. Rosalind's teeth catch against her bottom lip as she times this: allowing them to fade in and out of reality, flickering wildly; they're aligned to the shadows, fading each time a beam of light illuminates them.
It could be symbolic, but it isn't. Just a terribly clever trick she's eager to show off to someone who might understand.]
no subject
The blinking in and out of existence, in time with the shadows and the chill wind, is far more disorienting in its own way. But they aren’t moving quite as much, only appearing and disappearing in time with the light and shadow. Being relatively in the same place, his mind can at least find time to adjust in the suddenness of it all — and take into the account how much he can appreciate the theatricality, already thinking if he should inflict this upon some poor soul sooner rather than later.
He’s grinning the whole time as she shows this to him. He knows that it’ll take some practice on his part, but he has all the time in the world. For the sake of being
extradramatic, why would he not try to perfect it?When she’s finished showing off, only then does he comment.]
Oh, I’m going to have fun with this someday. I can already tell.
[A turn of a heel, crushing snow underfoot, and he looks at Rosalind directly.]
And how should I thank you for it? Perhaps guide you in what new abilities you must now possess?
no subject
[That's a joke, because honestly? She's all but giddy from this. It's been ages since she's gotten to do this with anyone: not just teleport, but show off. Oh, she's displayed her intelligence again and again, but tricks like these are only fun when someone can properly appreciate them.]
