❪ october plot conclusion; wyver takes ❫
THE END TO THE EPIDEMIC ![]() On the morning of November 3, there is a palpable buzz on the streets as both the natives of Wyver and Olympian refugees share the same sentiment: excitement. Word will quickly spread that a cure to VIOLET2710 has finally been developed and is ready for mass dissemination. Throughout the city, the cure can be found at any of the numerous small temples and outposts of the Altar of Volkkra. The shamans of Volkkra will happily distribute the cure to any of the ill in need of it, without restraint. A joint venture between both Olympia and Wyver, citizens of both are granted equal access. As the lines form, the shamans will ask that able-bodied persons administer the cure to themselves and to others. Don't let the needles scare you! It'll only hurt a little. At each of these outposts, signs will be posted giving credit to those who aided in the creation and manufacture of the cure:
As they distribute the cure, the shamans will note that those receiving the cure should give thanks to those named. Without their contributions, it may have taken much longer for the cure to be found and created in large enough quantities to save everyone. SHOULD I STAY OR SHOULD I GO? ![]() With Olympia and Wyver's fragile alliance still in effect and a cure to VIOLET2710 distributed, Olympia finally opens its gates once again to Refugees if they feel a little homesick. High-speed transportation will be available at record low costs as politicians, merchants, and other business owners desperately hurry home to salvage whatever they can from the terrorist attacks. Refugees are advised to remain in Wyver until food rations can be recovered and the water can be decontaminated. However, those more personally attached to Olympia may discover that the city is preparing a mass call for volunteers that will go out in the near future. In the meantime, and understandably, you should do what you can to help the Wyver people. The Dragon city has started posting quests, not only for you to do your part, but for the Wyver people to gauge your worth as visitors to their sacred land. Thesa also has an interest in the unfolding events. Refugees have now been exposed to both lands, and certainly some will find themselves more invested in one side than the other. Darma finally wakes from slumber to observe, and while she is thankful that Refugees are immersed in her world, there is something foreboding on the horizons. On the night of the 3rd, Darma will appear in your dreams for a conversation. It has been some time, Refugee... ah, no, certainly not for me. I am Darma. It is my hope that Sael as served you well in my place. The Natha do not feel, but I must express gratefulness that I am able to return to you. My greeting extends to both old and new faces. As we watch you, we see that this world and its people have begun to influence your hearts. In time, your loyalty to either of these lands, to Olympia or to Wyver, shall affect how you are seen by the other side. As observers, we are unable to provide either region a winning edge. Thus, once you pledge loyalty to one, you cannot use Thesa to teleport to the other. Choose wisely, or choose none at all. There is no war for those who do not wish to see it. For those who do... if I may be prudent— this alliance will not last. Keep your friends close, Refugee, for they may not remain so if your allegiances conflict. You will wake before you get a chance to reply. THE UNDERLYING PROBLEM IN THE UNDERGROWTH ![]() The locals often speak of a cursed place deep within Wyver territory, confounded by the spirits of dragons who passed long ago: those who still wish for vengeance on the people of Olympia for their untimely deaths. Though these stories began as nothing more than urban legends among the raiders and shamans, over time the idea has become mainstream. So much that the rumors have started causing unrest between the people of Wyver and their guests. More than a few people within Wyver have used these rumors as justification for opposing the current alliance with Olympia. Many Wyver locals see these rumors as a sign that their ancestors disapprove of the alliance. As a result, those in charge have decided that it would be prudent to mitigate some of the anxiety from either side. Those who are willing to look into these rumors further will find themselves lead towards the darkest parts of Wyver, deep within the Undergrowth in a region devoid of light. The faint of heart will be advised against delving further. ![]() This creature is able to camouflage itself perfectly to its environment. This, paired with darkness of the deep Undergrowth, makes this beast nearly impossible to detect with the naked eye. The creature also release a noxious gas that can spark a range of emotional responses: some may grow hysterical, while others may be consumed by despair. The effects only last for minutes, though some may linger in the back of one's mind for hours after. While the creature does not actually attack people directly, the other beasts of the Undergrowth may take advantage of its victims. Fortunately, Wyver is not looking for the creature's capture. They respect the delicate balance of the jungle as they see themselves as its protectors. For now, they only desire more information about this creature in order to assuage the people. Good luck and do your best to keep your wits! ALRIA'S FULL MOON ![]() While Olympians worship the ever-present light of Thesa, the people of Wyver are captivated by the smaller, yet ever-changing Alria. Alria cycles in and out of the night sky much like what denizens of Earth would remember as lunar phases, and those who are familiar with that may notice it is very similar to their own. And likewise, the creatures, men and women of Wyver are affected when Alria transitions into its full moon phase.
THE VOLKKRAN PACT AT NAMARAK SUMMIT ![]() Despite being mistaken for a pair, there is no need to take the shaman's advice. The necklace will disappear if the Pact isn't completed in a week's time. However, if the Pact's benefits might be something of interest to you and your partner, then you'll be advised to travel further south, until you reach Namarak Mountain. At the summit, you'll find an altar, where you and your partner are expected to return the necklaces and make a vow to support one another. The shaman there isn't particularly interested in what you do to complete the Pact. In fact, many people who attempt the Pact tend to... go a bit further than is necessary, when it can be achieved through a simple kiss between the partners. The Volkkran Pact's effects are immediate upon physical contact. Each Pact can be broken through a special process with the head Shaman, but there needs to be at least a month's time before one can sever it. The pairs may be fake and still receive the benefit of the Pact, though they may find that sharing power with someone they are not truly committed to is a mistake. NOTE: Players may be creative about what powers can be shared. The recipients of the such powers can never be granted its full strength, but it may be strengthened with Wyver REP rewards. Please note that PCs does not need to pledge allegiance to Wyver in order to keep the Volkkran Pact; they will only need 10 Wyver REP in order to strengthen it. Refer to the questions thread below if you have any questions. BUILD-A-BLADE WORKSHOP ![]() Sirod, the weapon's head shopkeeper, is interested in procuring a few materials for his clients. While these clients have already collected the claws of larger beasts and various other parts needed to create their new weapons, they are still missing some rare, necessary items. In particular, they are still missing the following: Those who retrieve any of these items will be rewarded 100 Silver. FINAL OOC NOTE
An AC-eligible thread for 2 WYVER REP POINTS may be submitted from this log. SUBMIT THE THREAD HERE by DEC 10th 11:59 PM EST.
We will no longer be providing overflow posts. In an event where the post hits CAPTCHA, players are advised to move threads to an overflow post on their character journals or create their own catch-all post. These threads remain eligible for AC, AC Rewards, and REP. 1 SILVER = 1 US DOLLAR. |

When you say it like that, it sounds a little bit scary.
[Why is that, Yona wonders? In theory, it's not much - the demons would just be compelling them to be honest. ...but not being able to control what you're saying sounds awful.]
no subject
[So for some people, it would mean spouting off all their secrets for seemingly no reason... yeah, that's a pretty scary power.]
no subject
[can every weird thing be explained away by demons??
maybe soo-won was possessed by a demon
maybe]
no subject
If it's a world where demons exist, it's entirely possible! Plenty of unexplained accidents are later found to have been the work of a demon... though with direct attacks being rather rare these days, that explanation tends to be more of a last resort.
[If you hear hoofbeats, assume horses -- not zebras.]
no subject
[Yona tilts her head to the side.]
You mean if they can't come up with any other explanation at all? Or... [She's not sure what kind of "or" there might be. But. She sort of feels like there might be more to it?
Ah, wait.]
Have people ever blamed things on demons even when they had nothing to do with it?
no subject
[If a demon breaks an expensive vase, chances are the blame is going to fall on Little Timmy and the new baseball bat he got from Christmas first.]
Most people can't see demons, after all. In fact, less than 1% of the entire population of my world has the ability -- and some don't even believe they exist!
no subject
[Are you ready to play the "why" game, Mephisto...]
If they exist, then they exist. So why can't people see them?
no subject
[...]
[Unless he like. Accidentally scratched her in his sleep or something.]
[It's a very real possibility.]
The world I come from is actually composed of two separate worlds. One is the world of humans, which we call Assiah. The other, the world of demons, is called Gehenna. Normally, it's impossible for anyone to travel between the two -- but demons can enter Assiah through possession!
Because of this, only those who are in some way attuned to the existence of Gehenna can see the demons for what they really are when they sneak into our world. This can be something one is born with, or something acquired later in life.
no subject
Acquired?
[Yona doesn't understand. Acquiring an object or learning to use magic, sure. But the ability to see demons? What do you have to do, get eye transplants?]
How would someone acquire something like that?
no subject
If someone who cannot see demons receives an injury or illness by interacting with a demon without their knowledge, they'll become capable of seeing demons for their rest of their life.
Naturally, for those who train to fight against demons and defend humanity from the more dangerous ones, receiving a temptaint is often a necessary first step. It doesn't have to be a severe injury, after all... even a little scratch can do the trick, as long as it draws blood.
[Well, that depends on the demon. Usually it has to be an intentional thing, but even a demon like Mephisto could accidentally give one in theory. Though for him, it'd probably have to be a bite... which means Jae-ha can see all the demons, huh...]
--of course, all of this seems to be unique to my world. I've already received proof that one doesn't need a temptaint to see demons here. And having you here seeing them has only further confirmed that theory.
no subject
[Sorry, give her a second.]
You said that if a person gets an injury or illness from interacting with a demon without their knowledge, then they'll be able to see demons. But if someone is training to fight them, and that's a necessary first step, then... doesn't that mean it'll never work? Because they'd be deliberately trying to get injured by a demon, with their knowledge?
no subject
Not to mention there are people who are aware of the existence of demons even without being able to see them.
no subject
[Hmmm. Yona twirls a few strands of hair around a finger as she thinks about it.]
You mean they can hear them? Or that they get a weird feeling? ...like a chill down your spine, or feeling like you're being watched when no one's there!
no subject
[So with all that chatting going on, clearly neither of them are paying nearly enough attention to the little bat demon. And while typically it was a very well-behaved umbrellabat, after being cooped up without Mephisto's influence for so long-- well, it's gonna misbehave.]
[It's subtle at first. A few strands of Yona's hair start to float off her shoulders. Then a few more. Then a a lot more, her hair slowly lifting up as if someone behind her was gathering it up in their hands--]
[But if she turns to look, her hair will fall back to her shoulders.]
no subject
[...uuh.
Her hair feels like it's moving. She can tell, because a few strands of it brush against the back of her neck as it moves upward. But Mephisto is right there in front of her, so it can't be him -
She turns her head, and her hair falls.
...wait, it totally could have been him.]
Are you doing magic on my hair again, Faust?
no subject
[He's gonna get cut off, because in the next moment, Yona is gonna find herself suddenly flung up into the air, slowing to a stop and then just kinda... hanging there. And seeing as this room is meant for any number of magical creatures to occupy, the ceiling goes up pretty high! She's a good 50 feet in the air.]
[...this would be a bad time to be wearing a skirt.]
[And down below -- the little bat flies out of Mephisto's arms and laughs as it floats through the air... also it laughs almost exactly like Mephisto does. Clearly he's been a bad influence on it.]
Miss Yona!?
no subject
[Yona is always wearing skirts and Mephisto better not be looking up too obviously or else she's going to beat him up when she manages to get back down.
But wow, okay. She knew the umbrella had some patches on it, but she didn't think it was one of the rude ones he'd talked about that liked to prank people - she thought it was a sign that it was well taken care of and one of the nice ones that protected people!
And yet here she is, 50 feet in the air, sure to break her neck if it decides to let her drop.]
G-get me down from here...!
1/2
[...]
[Gonna thank his familiar for his later.]
no subject
Now, is that any way to treat a dear friend of your master? Bring her back down -- slowly.
Or else I'll refashion you into a poncho.
[THE BAT LOOKS DISTRESSED!!!]
[But rather than bring Yona down, it soars up higher -- clinging to her and shivering as though it were afraid.]
[And I mean -- Yona probably would be too if she could actually see the look Mephisto just gave the poor thing. 2spooky.]
no subject
Her arm comes around the small demon on instinct - the thing seems scared, like some kind of small, skittish animal. Of course, she's scared too, so it's as much for her own comfort as it is to try and calm it.]
Please let me down...?
[She'll even try asking it nicely! Do the right thing, little umbrella bat.]
no subject
[...usually. Maybe that's why it was so spooked?]
[But it complies -- slowly floating the two of them back down to solid ground, where Mephisto waits with his arms folded.]
[And of course -- the second Yona is on the ground, he snaps his fingers and turns the bat back into a simple umbrella again.]
Are you all right, Miss Yona?
no subject
I'm okay...
[It didn't drop her and she didn't break her neck - so, no real harm done! Just, you know, the same kind of momentary panic that Mephisto himself had once caused her when they'd walked off a roof and he'd let her fall for a bit before making them float.]
But, why did it do that...?
no subject
[He holds out his hand to take the umbrella, before letting it disappear with a poof, now hanging on a hook against the wall in the back of the room.]
I'm sure it only wanted to play after being cooped up in here for so long. But I can't afford to be lenient when it disobeys me, or I'll only be encouraging that poor behavior.
[So basically he's a demondad.]
no subject
[He is definitely a demondad.
The thought hits Yona a moment later, and she has to bring up a hand to hide her smile. She's not really successful at keeping herself from giggling, either...]
Other than that, it was pretty nice... I'd like to come visit it again, sometime. If that's okay?
no subject

[r u havin' a giggle ther m8]
Did I say something funny?
