❪ october plot conclusion; wyver takes ❫
THE END TO THE EPIDEMIC ![]() On the morning of November 3, there is a palpable buzz on the streets as both the natives of Wyver and Olympian refugees share the same sentiment: excitement. Word will quickly spread that a cure to VIOLET2710 has finally been developed and is ready for mass dissemination. Throughout the city, the cure can be found at any of the numerous small temples and outposts of the Altar of Volkkra. The shamans of Volkkra will happily distribute the cure to any of the ill in need of it, without restraint. A joint venture between both Olympia and Wyver, citizens of both are granted equal access. As the lines form, the shamans will ask that able-bodied persons administer the cure to themselves and to others. Don't let the needles scare you! It'll only hurt a little. At each of these outposts, signs will be posted giving credit to those who aided in the creation and manufacture of the cure:
As they distribute the cure, the shamans will note that those receiving the cure should give thanks to those named. Without their contributions, it may have taken much longer for the cure to be found and created in large enough quantities to save everyone. SHOULD I STAY OR SHOULD I GO? ![]() With Olympia and Wyver's fragile alliance still in effect and a cure to VIOLET2710 distributed, Olympia finally opens its gates once again to Refugees if they feel a little homesick. High-speed transportation will be available at record low costs as politicians, merchants, and other business owners desperately hurry home to salvage whatever they can from the terrorist attacks. Refugees are advised to remain in Wyver until food rations can be recovered and the water can be decontaminated. However, those more personally attached to Olympia may discover that the city is preparing a mass call for volunteers that will go out in the near future. In the meantime, and understandably, you should do what you can to help the Wyver people. The Dragon city has started posting quests, not only for you to do your part, but for the Wyver people to gauge your worth as visitors to their sacred land. Thesa also has an interest in the unfolding events. Refugees have now been exposed to both lands, and certainly some will find themselves more invested in one side than the other. Darma finally wakes from slumber to observe, and while she is thankful that Refugees are immersed in her world, there is something foreboding on the horizons. On the night of the 3rd, Darma will appear in your dreams for a conversation. It has been some time, Refugee... ah, no, certainly not for me. I am Darma. It is my hope that Sael as served you well in my place. The Natha do not feel, but I must express gratefulness that I am able to return to you. My greeting extends to both old and new faces. As we watch you, we see that this world and its people have begun to influence your hearts. In time, your loyalty to either of these lands, to Olympia or to Wyver, shall affect how you are seen by the other side. As observers, we are unable to provide either region a winning edge. Thus, once you pledge loyalty to one, you cannot use Thesa to teleport to the other. Choose wisely, or choose none at all. There is no war for those who do not wish to see it. For those who do... if I may be prudent— this alliance will not last. Keep your friends close, Refugee, for they may not remain so if your allegiances conflict. You will wake before you get a chance to reply. THE UNDERLYING PROBLEM IN THE UNDERGROWTH ![]() The locals often speak of a cursed place deep within Wyver territory, confounded by the spirits of dragons who passed long ago: those who still wish for vengeance on the people of Olympia for their untimely deaths. Though these stories began as nothing more than urban legends among the raiders and shamans, over time the idea has become mainstream. So much that the rumors have started causing unrest between the people of Wyver and their guests. More than a few people within Wyver have used these rumors as justification for opposing the current alliance with Olympia. Many Wyver locals see these rumors as a sign that their ancestors disapprove of the alliance. As a result, those in charge have decided that it would be prudent to mitigate some of the anxiety from either side. Those who are willing to look into these rumors further will find themselves lead towards the darkest parts of Wyver, deep within the Undergrowth in a region devoid of light. The faint of heart will be advised against delving further. ![]() This creature is able to camouflage itself perfectly to its environment. This, paired with darkness of the deep Undergrowth, makes this beast nearly impossible to detect with the naked eye. The creature also release a noxious gas that can spark a range of emotional responses: some may grow hysterical, while others may be consumed by despair. The effects only last for minutes, though some may linger in the back of one's mind for hours after. While the creature does not actually attack people directly, the other beasts of the Undergrowth may take advantage of its victims. Fortunately, Wyver is not looking for the creature's capture. They respect the delicate balance of the jungle as they see themselves as its protectors. For now, they only desire more information about this creature in order to assuage the people. Good luck and do your best to keep your wits! ALRIA'S FULL MOON ![]() While Olympians worship the ever-present light of Thesa, the people of Wyver are captivated by the smaller, yet ever-changing Alria. Alria cycles in and out of the night sky much like what denizens of Earth would remember as lunar phases, and those who are familiar with that may notice it is very similar to their own. And likewise, the creatures, men and women of Wyver are affected when Alria transitions into its full moon phase.
THE VOLKKRAN PACT AT NAMARAK SUMMIT ![]() Despite being mistaken for a pair, there is no need to take the shaman's advice. The necklace will disappear if the Pact isn't completed in a week's time. However, if the Pact's benefits might be something of interest to you and your partner, then you'll be advised to travel further south, until you reach Namarak Mountain. At the summit, you'll find an altar, where you and your partner are expected to return the necklaces and make a vow to support one another. The shaman there isn't particularly interested in what you do to complete the Pact. In fact, many people who attempt the Pact tend to... go a bit further than is necessary, when it can be achieved through a simple kiss between the partners. The Volkkran Pact's effects are immediate upon physical contact. Each Pact can be broken through a special process with the head Shaman, but there needs to be at least a month's time before one can sever it. The pairs may be fake and still receive the benefit of the Pact, though they may find that sharing power with someone they are not truly committed to is a mistake. NOTE: Players may be creative about what powers can be shared. The recipients of the such powers can never be granted its full strength, but it may be strengthened with Wyver REP rewards. Please note that PCs does not need to pledge allegiance to Wyver in order to keep the Volkkran Pact; they will only need 10 Wyver REP in order to strengthen it. Refer to the questions thread below if you have any questions. BUILD-A-BLADE WORKSHOP ![]() Sirod, the weapon's head shopkeeper, is interested in procuring a few materials for his clients. While these clients have already collected the claws of larger beasts and various other parts needed to create their new weapons, they are still missing some rare, necessary items. In particular, they are still missing the following: Those who retrieve any of these items will be rewarded 100 Silver. FINAL OOC NOTE
An AC-eligible thread for 2 WYVER REP POINTS may be submitted from this log. SUBMIT THE THREAD HERE by DEC 10th 11:59 PM EST.
We will no longer be providing overflow posts. In an event where the post hits CAPTCHA, players are advised to move threads to an overflow post on their character journals or create their own catch-all post. These threads remain eligible for AC, AC Rewards, and REP. 1 SILVER = 1 US DOLLAR. |

They walk in silence for a while before he decides to break it. His focus remains on keeping things as professional as possible. ]
If this turns out to be some hoax or trap, we'll need to get the word out.
[ A text blast to the network would probably get the job done, as infrequently as he might use it. ]
no subject
[ She hates the idea of leaving a recording of herself anywhere, even when she isn't running from anyone anymore, but she's still a better option than Jack.
Better not to tempt fate when it comes to anyone who might want to go after an active fugitive. ]
no subject
I don't mean to put all of this on you.
[ He's pretty sure he could get away with sending out a text, but showing his face to the whole network seems like a bad idea no matter how he looks at it.
All the same, this doesn't feel fair. ]
no subject
[ The cold is creeping toward unpleasant and the breeze cuts right through her coat. Ana folds her arms and hunches her shoulders a little. ]
That's what having a partner is about. You don't have to do it all on your own.
no subject
It all feels a little uneven to him right now, is all, but he figures that will change the longer they're in Wyver, and the more time that passes since the initial explosion that landed them into trouble.
He sighs, well aware that there's little point in arguing with Ana. ]
Well. I appreciate it.
[ Could someone sound more constipated? It's hard to imagine. ]
no subject
It's too bad that he's about as likely to take that to heart as she is.
She falls silent as they trudge to the top of the mountain, the temple coming into view.
She's glances at Jack, then looks straight ahead again. It's been a while since Ana felt nervous. ]
I think this is it.
no subject
Looks like it.
[ He presses forward, taking the lead as they approach the entry gates. At first the place seems to be abandoned, even, but after a few moments spent looking around, a shaman appears to greet them.
"What brings you here?" he asks, and 76 turns sharply, at a loss for what to say at first. ]
We were told about... a pact.
[ If they seem like an unlikely pair, that's because they are. ]
no subject
The shaman explains that they'll have to make a vow of some sort and then seal the pact... physically. When Ana pushes the point of exactly how physical they're meant to get, he simply shrugs and says to do whatever they need to do. They'll know when it works.
Ana shakes her head as he walks off. ] I'm starting to think we're not nearly young enough for this.
no subject
The shaman doesn't give them the specific details that they'd like, but the point is still made. They need to make some sort of physical contact to seal the deal.
At Ana's comment, Jack glances over and shrugs. ] You could be right. [ Would a chaste kiss be enough to qualify? Not that he's going to expect Ana to go through with it if she isn't comfortable. It doesn't have to be anything other than the means to an end, but he won't hold it against her if she doesn't want to play along. ] Remember, we can always walk away.
no subject
She steps up to the alter, waiting for Jack to join her. When he does, she pulls her off her glove and holds out her hand. It may not be as dramatic as the priest was making it out to be. It wouldn't be the first time they've both managed to over-think something. ]
Take my hand if you want to live.
[ That's not the line, Ana. ]
no subject
Awkward as this is, at least they seem to be alone. If anyone's watching them, Jack can't see or sense them nearby, so the pressure isn't quite as suffocating.
It doesn't have to be a big deal or mean anything if they don't let it. Jack yanks his own glove off, shoving it in his jacket pocket before reaching out to grasp Ana's hand.
This they've done before too. Whether it was helping the other up because they were exhausted from a day of fighting, or dragging them around a corner to avoid an attack, or a thousand other reasons. Warm yet weathered skin presses together as he tightens his grip.
There's a long pause, and Jack tilts his head to one side. ] How do we know if it's working?
no subject
The only thing Ana has learned about magic is that it's consistently flashy and immediately obvious. No literal sparks fly when Jack takes her hand, and even though she squeezes his hand in return - it's just a normal grip.
She hadn't really thought it would be that easy, but she had hoped.
She releases his hand so that she can remove her other glove. There's no sense in dragging this out - it's only going to be more awkward that way. ]
I think that we just keep trying. [ She shakes her head. ] Do you want any help with your mask?
no subject
Ana quickly moves onto the next test, which involves removing their masks. It's not hard to figure out what she's got in mind. To Jack's credit, he only hesitates for a split second before he shakes his head. ] I've got it.
[ Again, they seem to be alone, so there's no reason to get anxious about removing the visor. The clasps on the side allow it to come apart and slide forward into his hands, and he bends down to set it carefully on the snow.
By the time that he stands again, they're face-to-face, unburdened of their usual headgear. Again, they need to be clinical about this, so without another word said about it, he tugs Ana toward him by the elbow, then leans forward to press their lips together. It's brief and it's chaste, and he focuses not on the actual action, but whether there's any signal that it triggered something. ]
no subject
Right now it feels like a particularly awkward chore that they're trying to get out of the way. Ana co-operates, just as stiff as Jack even as she lets him pull her in and press their lips together.
Again, nothing happens.
Ana pushes against him so that she can pull away. If she's a little flushed anyway, it's just the cold. ]
Aren't we supposed to make some kind of vow? Let's try once more. If it takes more than a kiss, we can go home.
no subject
He's not ranked above her anymore, though. They're partners, simple as that.
When she pushes back, Jack drops his head, not quite able to look her in the eye right now. Not that it lasts long, when the talk of vows comes up. More and more they need to accept what this pact is supposed to be, even if they're attempting to forge it for other reasons.
He's reaching the point where he's ready to give it up, but Ana isn't, and so he holds out. ] Vows. All right. You first.
no subject
Of course she wants to share with him any protection that she can.
And just like that, she knows exactly what to say. ]
Jack. You can be very stupid sometimes, but it's a part of your charm. [ She's said as much to him countless times before, and she doesn't expect that he'll take offense. She reaches up and puts her hands on either side of his face, turning it gently but firmly so that he'll look at her. She doesn't want to do this more than once, either. ]
I could have lived the rest of my life without ever seeing you again. I'm thankful, every day, that the world does not give us what we deserve. [ Even if she isn't quite happy. Even if her home is gone and Fareeha still sleeps peacefully in the station - she still has Jack to share her grief and rare moments of happiness. She has a second chance that she will never quite feel that she deserves, but she's determined not to waste it. ] أنا احميك. Always.
no subject
When she grabs for his face, Jack doesn't resist at all, allowing her to make the eye contact between them that he can't quite manage on his own. The hair on the back of his neck goes on end, and that cold clinical sense to what they're doing is completely gone. His heart stutters in his chest as Ana's words wash over him.
Of course Jack knows that Ana is hardly blameless in this entire situation, but in that moment, he wants to tell her that she deserves all the good things that the universe still decides to give her. The words settle on his tongue, but he's not the kind to just blurt something out, at least not anymore. He tries for something a little more measured. ]
I honestly don't know how I would have handled any of this without you. [ Losing their world and their mission, forced to adapt to an entirely new place when they're already old and worn -- Jack knows it would have been ugly if he'd had to do it alone.
He reaches up to take Ana's hands from the sides of his face and grips them in his own, tighter than he probably should. ] That bullet you took, I'd give anything to have taken it for you. [ Ana's been shot many times over her life, but Jack won't need to specify which bullet in this case. He could keep going, but it feels like if he does he'll never stop, and his words are already starting to catch in his throat. ]
no subject
He's handled plenty without her, and she has no doubt that he would have handled this too - but he shouldn't have to. She should have been there, until the very end, even if it meant that she was just another body in the rubble. She surprises herself with the sharpness of her answer:] No. You did the right thing. You've taken enough pain on your own when I should have been there for you to lean on.
no subject
Her quick response doesn't really surprise him. They've had arguments like this before, years ago. Jack exhales roughly and shrugs. ] I'm not very good at that. [ At leaning on people.
He doesn't know if the words they've exchanged will have really counted as vows, but here's their last ditch effort. He leans in again to kiss Ana, lips pressing a little more insistently on hers. It comes a little easier the second time. He closes his eyes, waiting to feel for some sort of shift. ]
no subject
She wonders, too, if maybe things would be completely different if she could have found the strength to go back in time.
He pulls her close a second time and Ana takes a fistful of his coat to keep him there. She doesn't feel particularly strange or superhuman, and when she pulls back again she frowns to herself. She does feel different, just not in the way she'd expected.
She looks up at him. ]
I feel... [ She frowns. ] Warmer?
[ That's not exactly it, but the cold seems to have just a little less bite. More than that, she feels... him. That connection they were going on about might not be something to be taken lightly after all. ]
Do you feel any different?
no subject
He shakes his head, but then glances down at the sidearm at his hip, which he takes with him pretty much anywhere, even if he doesn't foresee any danger. ]
No, but let's test something.
[ Two kisses and some haphazard vows later, and he still manages to march off like nothing actually happened. That's because he's not sure if it did, or if any of it means anything -- beyond a strengthening of a bond that's always been there. Maybe this pact isn't supposed to be anything dramatic, but simply natural.
Once they're clear of the altar, he turns back to Ana and gestures in front of them, to the wild openness of the summit. ]
Give me a target to aim at. Something I wouldn't normally be able to hit.
no subject
Still, she hopes she can pick up a car.
She stops by his side and scans the horizon. Stationary targets are too simple; even without whatever benefit she offers, Jack isn't a bad shot. She waits until she sees the faint dash of movement.
The underbrush will make it tricky and the distance is just barely within his sidearm's range. Ana considers it. It's possible for her. ]
That hare. One shot, head only. [ They can take it back home for dinner. ]
no subject
Jack readies his gun and continues to watch the hare's movements, studying for a few seconds before something seems to suddenly click into place. He can't exactly explain the sensation, but it's as if he's looking down a scope, and he knows what he needs to do.
Even then, he waits for the proper moment, for the right opening and positioning when the hare bounds up over a ridge on the snow-dusted ground.
He fires, and the hare goes lifeless.
He glances back to Ana, some of his shock showing on his face. ] Not a hundred percent sure that was a headshot. [ Guess they'd better check. He returns his gun to its holster and starts toward the downed hare. ]
no subject
She's right. When she sees the body, it's clear that the shot was perfectly aimed. ]
A clean kill. Good work, Jack.
no subject
Even then, he'll probably need to succeed a few more times before he really believes it, but this is some pretty compelling evidence.
He shrugs and kneels down to collect the carcass. ] I mean, it's thanks to you.
[ He stands and turns back toward Ana, looking her over for a few seconds before he places his visor back into place over his face. ] We should get back.
(no subject)
